The main reason cited for using Web 2.0 technologies was that they provided functionality not available on college networked software. Staff also cited the freedom from 'network control' as being another motivator for using these technologies. Only a couple of staff cited their use for collaborative creation/user feedback - which are of course the defining features of Web 2.0 technologies.

The main purposes of using Web 2.0 technologies were:

• Lesson content
• Galleries of student work
• Communication
• Learning activities
• File sharing
• Virtual meetings

A small number of ILT Champions in other Welsh colleges were also surveyed. Web 2.0 applications, although outside college control, are increasingly seen as having a positive impact in terms of developing generic IT/Web based skills which benefit learning in general and, in particular, enhance the use of college Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs).  Until recently many colleges have been blocking access to many Web 2.0 sites because their use was seen as social/recreational rather than educational. Colleges are, however, encouraging the use of Web 2.0 technologies (such as blogs, chat rooms and instant messaging) within existing VLEs. This ensures an element of control and enables teaching staff to be better supported in the use of such technologies (rather than using unsupported third party software).

The Web 2.0 technologies used (and their purpose) were as follows:

YouTube

Distributing student work

Obtaining feedback - which was seen as a positive functionality, in a commercial/marketing sense, for students studying media, design etc

Demonstration - eg engineering activities, dance/drama techniques, biomechanics in sport, learning languages etc

Information  - eg on tourism, sport, history, psychologists etc

Social networking sites (mainly Facebook)

Graphic design - creating skins on Bebo

Improve ICT skills/knowledge - a couple of staff made the point that it is the mature students who want to know more about Web 2.0 technologies (presumably the younger students already know). Whereas some (college) library services have dismissed Web 2.0 technologies as being the preserve of young students who are only interested in their social uses.

The responses lend themselves to library involvement in supporting the use of Web 2.0 technologies by teaching staff in a variety of ways:

Supporting the use of Web 2.0 technologies as information sources

The library staff can provide Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) services to alert staff to new resources to support their vocational/subject area. We are using the library blog and subject specific Del.icio.us accounts to this end. Alternatively library staff can support teaching staff in setting up their own SDI/alerting services using RSS feeds/newsreaders (it was noticeable that only one respondent said they used RSS feeds in teaching).

Promoting emerging technologies 

It would appear that the use of Web 2.0 technologies in teaching is still limited to a relatively small number of applications. By experimenting with Web 2.0 technologies, in a library context, then library staff are ideally suited to raise awareness of those technologies (and their potential use for collaborative creation and obtaining user feedback) amongst teaching staff.

Staff training

A number of respondents specifically asked whether the college would be providing staff training on the use of these technologies. In response, the library staff have run staff development sessions on Web 2.0 technologies raising awareness of the technologies and promoting the library's own Web 2.0 developments. Consequently, for September, we are already being asked to provide similar training to students.

Today i have completed or at least attempted 3 i have...

1. Attempted to write a song heres what i've come up with

(This i then worked out was all ready a song by the buzzcocks) So i wrote
I'm so lonely ( i did this in a american accent trying to do a north korean accent) i then yet again realized this was all ready a song so i decided singer song writer was not my carer.

2. I attempted to make a youtube video, however with no video camera or any equipment for filming i then realized i would have to make a video camera and you probally won't be suprised to find that i falied with in about half an hour of smashing my toaster with a rock.

3. I made a blog. This so far seems to have worked.

So i can safely say i can cross one of my list of 101. So if you have been reading this and want to help me please send me something to do (anything) and i promise i will do my best to achevie it and if i do then i will take one off my list my goal to complete a hundred in 6 weeks. And if your bored yourself then you can read my blogs i will be hopefully writing and you can do one of the things yourself and then the world in my opinon will be a better place. Please send me ideas. Thank you.

Last fall, while listening to the car radio, I heard about an exciting video that had made its way to the home page of YouTube.  It featured an 18-year-old from Camden, standing in the middle of a deserted street corner performing a scene from Hamlet. 

I logged on, watched it, and was so impressed that we tracked the kid down and offered him a scholarship to our training program.  The only proviso was that he come in and audition.  He traveled to Manhattan a few weeks ago and gave one of the most astonishing auditions I have ever seen.

My line of work demands that I audition hundreds of people each year, and over the past three decades, I have probably witnessed at least 15,000 auditions.  Most end up as deletions from the memory bank, but others are indelibly burned into my brain by virtue of the horror they elicited, or they are beautifully etched in by virtue of their brilliance.  Perhaps at another time I will share an audition horror story or two. 

For now, I thought I’d start on a high note and share this extraordinary and inspiring experience. 

The young man’s name is Craig Bazan. He graduated from high school last summer and spent this academic year attending a community college in Camden.

His audition wasn’t polished (in the traditional sense of the word as it is applied to acting). In fact, it was raw and lacking in technique.  But this kid was so invested in the story and language, so passionate about the task of bringing Shakespeare to life, so bold in his choices and his interpretation, and so physically and mentally committed, that the room’s energy was jolted into a kind of held-breath stasis. 

Six seasoned theatre professionals sat open jawed.  It was like watching the emergence of a new, young, Paul Robeson.  And I thought, “Oh, oh, oh …if only this level of passion, dedication and courage was the common trait, and not the rarity, what could we not achieve on this Earth!?” 

Craig will join us this summer as an acting apprentice on a full scholarship. He will receive intensive training over eleven weeks. Apprentices take classes, work on various crews, sometimes act in non-speaking or small roles on stage.

 And today, Bonnie J. Monte provided an update on Craig's progress:

In my very first entry, I mentioned an aspiring young actor from Camden named Craig Bazan, who we had “discovered” through a YouTube video. 

More than ever, I am convinced that this young actor holds great promise, and for anyone interested in seeing him in his first professional role, you can still catch him in King Lear through July 27th.

A number of people expressed interest in knowing more about him and about his time at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey.

Craig has been a member of our Summer Professional Training Program for nine weeks now, and has been going through intensive training in voice, speech, movement, stage combat, and of course, acting. 

He was cast in my production of Lear as a member of the supporting ensemble.

In the three-hour performance each night, he plays a servant who undertakes a noble rescue; a soldier; and a herald. 

He has performed admirably, engaging in his training with vigor and determination. 

More than ever, I am convinced that this young actor holds great promise.

I do think he’s the kind of talent about whom one will be able to say, “I saw him when…” !

As Ms. Monte mentioned, you can catch Craig in his first professional role in King Lear through July 27th at the The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey. CamdenCityKids looks forward to providing further updates about Craig's burgeoning career in the future.

I think the new look for the new Facebook is very well done, even I have not go through every single application yet. Basically, it is easier to locate each application or setting as you can add a tab like how you did on explorer. The tabs are all lined up nicely at the top of the box so you can now search your stuff, friends, photos, or anything quicker than before.

I like the layout of the new look. It looks similar to one of the blogspot themes. Clean, clear and easy-to-read. The new 'Info' tab is useful as we do not have all our information divided by ding-dong things based on the layout we chose. However, the 'Wall' tab is a bit too draggy, because it displays too many walls info. I'm not sure how's yours look like because mine look rather simple as I only have The Wall after I deleted all the SuperWall, FunWall, Superfunwall? Must be quite disastrous, with all the walls, walls, walls. lols

Overall, I think the Facebook team did a very good job on the new look. I wonder if they will start charging us for using it, maybe not, because they already benefited a lot from this community. Never heard about 'The Facebook Truth' yet? Youtube it!

In the past-- I wasn't big on self help type things, but the older I get, the more I realize that I don't know everything.  Sounds like dude had figured some things out.

That's what the label ( Bodog Music ) feels. As you may know, DMX was arrested in Pheonix, AZ on charges of identity theft and felony theft. The incident happened in April where DMX, born Earl Simmons, gave a hospital in Arizona the name of "Troy Jones" along with an incorrect social security number. Let the authorities tell it, he only did this to keep from paying a $7,500 medical bill.

According to AllHipHop.com, the label had to say this:

"We wouldn't work with DMX period if we didn't believe he was just a victim of circumstance," Bodog President Peter Karroll, told the Associated Press. "The sheriff in Phoenix is definitely targeting him. It's unbelievable."

I don't know DMX but I did used to feel his music. However, we all know DMX has been a troublemaker with the law. If he had a few run ins here and there and pretty much stayed out of trouble, I could probably see where the label was coming from. But I can't. This man can't stay afloat unless he's in trouble. It used to be funny but now it's down right SAD. He's 37 and he's doing things children do. Why go into a hospital, use the wrong SSN and a wrong name when you KNOW you're facing animal cruelty and multiple drug charges? That's just like saying "HEY COPS! I'M WAITING."

If you want to know my personal opinion (which I'm sure you do), I think  DMX is sick. Nobody can convince me otherwise. Whoever his people are, his wife, they all need to step up and give him some real deal intervention cause he's clearly not all "there."

This makes me sad. Really. Here are a few of my favorite DMX songs:

Of course, that's not all but those are a few that I can't get enough of. It's a shame he's taken this route.

y el programa guardará un archivo ejemplo.flv en tu ordenador.

Si escribís en consola youtube-dl -h os aparecerán las diferentes opciones de personalización del programa, como la manera de escribir usuario y contraseña de YouTube, imprescindible para descargaros vídeos protegidos bajo la etiqueta contenido para adultos.

With so many services offering up web video, it's increasingly difficult to call it -- well, "web" video. The oldteevee is fast becoming the main newteevee.

Quello che avete appena visto è lo spot di un progetto che nasce con lo scopo di diffondere la consapevolezza che internet è uno strumento utile e culturale, e non - come pensano tutti i Bruno Vespa d'Italia - uno strumento spaventoso e orribile. Il progetto si chiama Codice Internet. Ne ha scritto anche Gilioli su L'Espresso e approfitto del suo blog per girarlo su queste pagine. Il testimonial, del tutto involontario, è Bruno Vespa: un clip tratto da “Porta a Porta” in cui il conduttore si frega le mani, guarda in camera e annuncia agli italiani che «Internet è un mondo assolutamente spaventoso». Ecco: quei pochi secondi di tivù ora sono lo spot con cui si presenta il primo grande progetto di divulgazione della Rete in Italia. Si chiama Codice Internet e il suo scopo - o il suo sogno - è che sempre meno gente la pensi come Bruno Vespa. E si diffonda ovunque - in ogni età, luogo, ceto sociale e livello culturale - la consapevolezza che il Web è invece uno strumento utile, divertente, facile e pratico per migliorare la qualità della propria vita.

Codice Internet è un’idea un filo ambiziosa (in Italia oltre metà della popolazione ancora non si collega alla Rete) partorita dalle teste di Marco Montemagno e Marco Antonio Masieri. Il primo ha 37 anni e forse lo avete visto in tivù, su Sky, a condurre la trasmissione “Reporter diffuso”; il secondo è un cinquantenne fiorentino specializzato nel lanciare imprese sul Web.

Insieme, tre anni fa, i due si sono inventati una cosa che si chiama Blogosfere e oggi raccoglie centinaia di diari on line su ogni possibile argomento: un’iniziativa diffusasi solo con il tam tam in Internet ma che già alla fine del 2008 avrà raggiunto l’attivo in bilancio.

Adesso Masieri e Montemagno tentano un passo molto più grande, facendo uscire la Rete dal circuito di chi già la frequenta e proponendola a quelli che ne sono ancora estranei con una valangata di eventi, spettacoli, performance, interviste, dialoghi e altro. Questo è appunto Codice Internet: un megaprogetto che durerà oltre un anno e comprenderà centinaia di iniziative su tutto il territorio per avviare quella divulgazione del Web che in Italia non è stata mai fatta.

La partenza è prevista a settembre: dal giorno 8, in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele a Milano, si parlerà dei possibili usi e benefici di Internet con interviste a vari personaggi e pubbliche chiacchierate di circa un’ora. Il tutto si replicherà per 35 giorni con l’obiettivo di stimolare i passanti alla curiosità verso la Rete.

Dalla Galleria al teatro, partirà quindi quello che Masieri e Montemagno hanno chiamato l’Internet Tour: un vero e proprio spettacolo che esordirà il 3 ottobre al Teatro dell’Arte di Milano per parlare di Web dal mattino (per le scuole) fino a sera inoltrata, sempre in modo divertente e pratico. Il mattatore sarà lo stesso Montemagno - che per abitudine televisiva ha facilità di palcoscenico - ma lo show sarà comunque fatto sempre di interviste, dialoghi, video e interazione con il pubblico in sala. Dopo Milano l’Internet show girerà l’Italia: già fissate Catania e Roma, si stanno definendo in queste settimane altre città.

Inoltre gli autori di Codice Internet proporranno il loro progetto all’interno di eventi a cui il pubblico già partecipa per altri motivi: dal Festival della Creatività di Firenze all’OverFifty di Roma, fino a manifestazioni tipo il Motorshow di Bologna. Saranno accuratamente evitati, invece, gli appuntamenti a cui vanno “di default” i tecnofili, come lo Smau, visto che qui si vuole parlare all’altra metà del cielo.

In ogni caso, come tutte le iniziative che riguardano la Rete al tempo del Web partecipativo, il programma di Codice Internet è in realtà un “wiki”, cioè una pagina che verrà in gran parte scritta dagli stessi internauti. Masieri e Montemagno vogliono infatti creare una rete di persone - centinaia, se non migliaia - che in tutta Italia decidano di fare propria la missione dell’alfabetizzazione digitale. E quindi saranno i cittadini stessi, in ogni comune della Repubblica, a farsi promotori di possibili presenze di Codice Internet nel luogo in cui abitano iscrivendosi al sito-social network del progetto.

Molto benvenute sono le idee - anche le più strampalate - che blogger e internauti potranno creativamente lanciare per portare Codice Internet da loro con diverse modalità, dal minishow alla festa di paese fino alla discussione in consiglio comunale sui benefici del cablaggio o dell’Wi Fi. Talvolta si potrà contribuire anche con la propria personalissima case history: se sei un musicista che ha messo i suoi brani su MySpace puoi andare a esibirti per qualche minuto sul palco di Codice Internet spiegando come il Web sia uno strumento con cui un artista può farsi conoscere; se sei un piccolo imprenditore che ha scoperto come migliorare i propri bilanci facendo acquisti on line anche il racconto della tua breve storia può funzionare. E lo stesso se magari hai incontrato l’amore della tua vita su Match o su Meetic, sei hai risolto un momento di crisi economica familiare vendendo quello che avevi in soffitta su eBay, se sei riuscito a fare il giro del mondo low cost comprando biglietti on line, se hai avuto da Zopa.it il prestito a un tasso che nessuna banca ti offriva, e così via nell’infinita galassia delle possibilità offerte da Internet.

Il fine ultimo, insomma, è creare una specie di “movimento culturale” in tutta Italia dove l’adesione al progetto di alfabetizzazione digitale sia vissuto come un impegno civile, se non politico (nel senso più lato del termine). Anzichè prendere per i fondelli chi non è capace di scrivere una mail, i “geek” nostrani sono quindi chiamati a contribuire alla crescita culturale ed economica della società insegnando a scrivere una mail alla loro portinaia, all’ortolano o alla nonna.

Dopo un anno di spettacoli e incontri di ogni tipo dalle Alpi alla Sicilia, Codice Internet prevede un momento finale con i fuochi d’artificio nella stessa città da cui era partito, cioè Milano. Dove, dal 13 al 22 novembre del 2009, si terrà la prima Internet Week, cioè l’equivalente per il Web delle varie manifestazioni milanesi già esistenti su altri temi, tipo la settimana della moda o il Salone del Mobile.

Per sette giorni la città sarà disseminata di laboratori, mostre, spettacoli, performance, flash mob e microeventi di ogni tipo, sempre ispirati alla passione per la Rete e al desiderio di condividerla con altri.
Tutto questo, ovviamente, richiederà uno sforzo economico non indifferente. I due di Codice Internet hanno calcolato un investimento iniziale di cinque milioni di euro e hanno già messo in piedi una piccola struttura organizzativa con sede a Milano. Gli sponsor - o i partner, come preferisce chiamarli Masieri - finora hanno accolto l’idea molto positivamente, come spesso accade quando qualcuno trova l’uovo di Colombo. Hanno già aderito aziende dell’hi-tech come eBay, PayPal, Dada e Yahoo!, ma sono in corso trattative con altri gruppi finanziari, industriali e telefonici.

Perfino le istituzioni finora hanno mostrato un atteggiamento inaspettatamente collaborativo, a iniziare dal Comune e dalla Camera di commercio di Milano. Forse anche in Italia si comincia a capire che portare il Web alla gente, in fondo, conviene veramente.

Del resto nella sua tirata televisiva contro Internet, alla fine Bruno Vespa ammette che la Rete gli fa spavento soprattutto perché non la conosce. Ecco, forse il problema è tutto lì.

Großartiger Redner, gute Rede, frei gesprochen, nichts abgelesen und das eine gute halbe Stunde lang. Das können nur wenige, McCain jedenfalls nicht. Er hat sicher andere Qualitäten, ist aber für das Präsidentenamt schon zu alt. Bei ihm würde sich auch nicht allzuviel zum Positiven ändern. Bei uns würde Obama Umfragen nach fast 80 % der Stimmen bekommen. In den USA liegt er aber momentan nur knapp vor McCain.
