October 3^rd is World Smile Day, and the theme for the day is ‘Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile." The image that leads the way on this day is the smiley face. 

Did you know that in the smiley face was created by Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Massachusetts in 1963. This smiley face has over time become the most recognizable symbol of goodwill in the world. 

Over time Harvey Ball became concerned about the over-commercialization of his symbol, and how its original meaning and intent had become lost in the constant repetition of the marketplace. Out of that concern came his idea for World Smile Day®. He thought that we, all of us, should devote one day each year to smiles and kind acts throughout that world.  The smiley face knows no politics, no geography and no religion.  Harvey's idea was that for at least one day each year, neither should we.  He declared that the first Friday in October each year would henceforth be World Smile Day®.

The very first World Smile Day® took place in Worcester, MA on October 1, 1999. In his inaugural address on that very first World Smile Day® Harvey Ball laid the groundwork for that World Smile Day® saying that the smiley face "...just reflects what is inside every one of us - a smile is what we want to see when we look at another human being."  He said, "Sometimes we forget that. Sometimes the world seems big and filled with problems that are too hard to understand much less solve.  We start to believe that we are too small to make a difference.  But that's not true. The truth is that every one of us has the ability to make a difference every day."

You could make someone smile this World Smile Day. It does not take much, and the gesture could be as small or big as you wish to make it. So go on, make someone smile this World Smile Day. Send them a special message - a message which has been sent into space for all eternity.

Символът "smiley" няма нито политика, нито география, нито религия. Идеята поне в един ден от годината и ние да се освободим от теаи неща. Девизът на деня е: "Направи една добрина. Помогни на някого да се усмихне." Харви Бол е обявил първия петък на октомври да бъде празнуван за ден на усмивката. Dzis jest Miedzynarodowy Dzien Usmiechu!! I to  po raz dziewiaty, choc dla mnie jest to nowosc. Kiedy wspomnieli o tym w radiu, z zachwytu usmiechnelam sie do siebie, bo akurat nie bylo obok zadnego kandydata do tego wzajemnego szczescia, i od razu swiat stal sie piekniejszy :))
