extragear-plasma

Sudoku

Joguinho de raciocínio que sou viciado.

Livros iRead (Books iRead)

Widget em que você diz quais são seus livros favoritos, avalia eles, e vê recomendações e avaliações de outros usuários. O título dos livros ainda está escrito em inglês.

Bom é isso. Se alguém descobrir mais algum widget interessante, comente. Compartilhe!

General application user interface guidelines :

Always use cute icons, buttons, and graphics. Everyone loves big red hearts, pink bunnies, and yellow smily faces.

Don't be afraid to experiment with colors!

Your application should play fun sounds while operating to keep the users entertained.

Never, ever, under any circumstance use the OS-native graphical controls or widgets. Users get bored of the same old buttons, text boxes, and stuff.

When possible, disable window management and use unusual, oddly placed graphics for the windowing functions such as the window close option.

When writing your own controls or widgets, make absolutely sure they look and feel nothing like the OS-native widgets or anything else the user might expect. Otherwise you might accidentally make the user think that your application is actually designed for their OS.

Use your own creative ideas on how a "save as" dialog should look and work. Built in ones are always too limiting.

It is important that the user should never be able to tell the difference between a checked and unchecked check box or option box.

Always use obscure or poorly drawn graphics for your tool bar buttons, and never put text on them.

Avoid including a preferences or options dialog. Instead, let the user use the standard OS provided text editor or an editor of their choosing to edit text configuration files. .

Users need time to think about what they are doing and get coffee. Your application should always take at least 5 minutes to load even on the fastest available computer.

Make sure an accidental double-click on a single-click item does something really nasty or unexpected.

Tool tips are the perfect way to display critical information.

To get the most screen space, force your application to always run maximized.

Always make the default positions of floating properties windows cover something important.

Use the most exotic fonts you can find.

Your application's user interface should be flexible and customizable to the point where if the user accidentally sneezes on the mouse or keyboard they will have to spend the next half an hour setting things back.

Let a 5-year old draw your graphics, including your corporate logo.

File browsing dialogs are not needed, users can easily remember and type in long file paths.

Design your application so it requires the user to set their tiny monitor to 10512*7430.

Always crash at a critical step and then display a fake apology to the user.

It is a mistake to make use of application hooks in the native desktop environment such as new file templates, file associations, or program menu icons.

The exception to the above is placing icons in the system tray. Place as many icons as you can in the system tray and make sure that the user can not remove them.

If your program implements keyboard shortcuts be original and make them completely different from any other applications.

Rent extra UI space in your application out for advertising. Advertising benefits the users and your wallet.

Never underestimate the power of nudity.

Don't forget to embed a hidden video game as an "easter egg".

Application Help: How to make a help system that is impervious to usefulness.

There is no need to include a manual with software. These days users are smart enough to figure out this kind of thing on their own.

If you do include documentation, there is no need for printed manuals. Users love staring in to a 17 inch light bulb all day.

Always put your installation instructions on the CD-rom rather than in a printed manual to save paper. The instructions should be installed with the rest of the program so they are not accessible until it is installed.

Keep help files simple. Only state the bleeding obvious about any given topic.

There is no need to use consistent terminology.

For program error, warning, question, and information messages, explain what is going on to the user in the most technical terms. They really need to know and learn this stuff because it is important. As part of the message dialog include a help button that opens the help file and displays exactly what the message just said.

Display as many information and question messages as possible in as many different places as possible. Except before critical irreversible operations such as wiping the hard drive.

It is acceptable to use "Engrish" throughout your application. All your help file are belong to us.

Making the web do things it has never done before

(and should never do again).

Always build a web browser in to your application. For best results make your own web browser.

Always hard code hyperlinks in to your application. Then make sure that the links don't work two months after the application is deployed.

When you launch a web browser, never use the user's default browser. Always launch the crappiest one available (I.E.: IE) (See above, you should write your own).

Always use hyperlinks instead of buttons. Hyperlinks are cool.

Be sure to include a throbber graphic in every window of your application.

Applications should look like web pages because the web is the embodiment of usability.

All modern applications are required to automatically sign users up for spam.

OS Specific tips

For a great first impression during your OS setup, never set the video to a refresh rate that works with user's monitor.

In fact, your OS should never, ever set the proper refresh rate for the monitor. Eye strain is good. In fact, whenever possible set it to a refresh rate that the monitor can't handle at all. If the user does manage to set a higher refresh rate, make sure it is non-standard so they have to fiddle with the monitor sizing and positioning. Bonus points for finding a refresh rate that makes the monitor blow up.

When packaging a GUI or operating system make sure the same functionality is available in at least a dozen different places in unrelated programs.

Include three of every kind of application program. (four or more if possible).

Install all possible advanced utilities and mindless junk that the typical user will never use.

Uninstallation options are out of style, don't include any. If you do need to include them make sure they always choke on dependencies.

It doesn't matter if your file manager / desktop shell is slow and sluggish. Go ahead and integrate it with your web browser. In fact, integrate it with several web browses while you are at it.

Application design for the ultimate user experience (in hell)

Begin coding the guts of the program immediately. Designing the UI can come later in the development process.

Don't waste time writing efficient code. GUIs don't need to be responsive and it is easy to make users upgrade to the latest 10,000,000 terahertz CPU and who doesn't need another zillion gigabytes of ram?

You can implement features half way. Your users will forgive you. (And if they don't, screw them anyway). Or you can always make them upgrade to the next version.

You don't even need to finish your software, if someone else has a problem with it they can fix it themselves.

It is safe to ignore the overall purpose of the application you are writing. Just make it do what you want.

There is no need to do any kind of user testing or research. Programmers always know the best way to design a user interface.

Let the users dictate design and implementation decisions, after all they know what they need.

If this is a corporate environment, always design the user interface the way the boss wants it. After all, that degree in user interface design he has is how he got to be the boss right?

When porting your application to another OS platform, there is no need at all to modify the way your application looks or behaves.

Always hard code all references to the file path your application must run in. The user will never have a need to install anywhere else and you will never run in to naming conflicts.

Sue anyone who makes a UI even remotely like yours. That's what the legal system is there for right?

Always use bizarre, scary sounding code names for the name of your application. For best results it should be an acronym for something that doesn't make any sense, and the acronym should be recursive.

Never remove old, obsolete, buggy, or nonsensical features from your application.

Pre-load your (now huge) application at system startup. It doesn't matter if it slows down the rest of the system, it is important that your application, which most users only use only occasionally, start the fastest. .

Add all possible features to your application. Even those that already exist in the OS. In fact, your application should eventually become an OS.

On Monday I wrote about using WidgetBucks and WOOThemes as a possible alternatives to Google’s

On Monday I wrote about using WidgetBucks and WOOThemes as a possible alternatives to Google's AdSense referrals scheme when it shuts down in August. Today, WidgetBucks announced that they will at last be extending their pay per click scheme to the UK so widgets now showing UK pricing.

WidgetBucks In Europe

[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="160" caption="Example of A WidgetBucks Widget showing UK pricing"][/caption]

This is perfect timing as it gives them an opportunity pick up new publishers in Europe. Even better news is that the widgets will be also be available in much of the rest of Western Europe in two weeks time. So by August, WidgetBucks will generate pay per click revenue for site owners with traffic from Western Europe and North America.

This is a significant step forward as previously if a visitor to your site was from outside North America the widget was replaced with a traditional ad and you were paid based on the number of impressions. Now visitors from the UK and soon Western Europe (full list below) will see the much more lucrative widget and revenue from WidgetBucks should start to increase.

Just to be clear, how you are paid and which ads are displayed does not depend on where you are based, it depends on where each visitor to your web site comes from.

Breakdown Of Countries Applicable for WidgetBucks

Visits from the following countries currently trigger pay per click widgets:

Order Traffic Secrets 2.0
With less than five hours to go until launch, I am thrilled to announce so

Order Traffic Secrets 2.0

With less than five hours to go until launch, I am thrilled to announce some very special bonuses.

Let me clear though - you don't need these to make the most out of TS2, but they will be valuable to you in other ways as you move your business forward. I would think these bonuses were a no-brainer!

So, what pray tell are they?
Well there's 3 in all.

The first 2 are DVDs from my buddy Frank Kern.

(these 2 DVDS are time sensitive, i.e. *only available until midnight on the day of launch* and will be sent with The Traffic Secrets 2.0 course).

DVD #1: Core Influence (approx 2 hours)

This is Frank's highly prized (and sought after) DVD. MORE important that *any* marketing stuff, sales stuff, or anything else. The end!

On this DVD, Frank shows you the most powerful exercise he's ever done (discovered by pure chance!)

He says that this exercise is responsible for him living in a multi-million dollar home at the beach and living a life he honestly thought was reserved for the glitterati!

Plus, out of all the stuff he's put out for almost 10 straight years, this has been the most raved about and well received by EVERYONE who's seen it.

The best part is, he will show you *EVERY* step of the process so it's easy.

DVD #2: Mass Control Does Denver (approx. 2 hours)

This is exclusive footage from a sold out $5,000.00 per person Jeff Walker workshop.

Frank attended that workshop and decided at the last minute, he would speak. Long story short, during that (now infamous) speech, he laid the entire foundation for what would later become MASS CONTROL.

This DVD was the genesis for Frank release of Mass Control. The feedback and response was so great that he knew he had a huge hit on his hands.

MP3 Interview (non-time sensitive, i.e. I will send this whenever you order through my links)

*I will also send you an EXTREMELY RARE MP3 & PDF manuscript of an interview with Frank Kern on his $900,000+ Clickbank account*
You guys have to hear this!
(In order for me to send you the MP3 and PDF today, please email me your order receipt to murrari1@googlemail.com)

So there you have it.

Yes - Order Traffic Secrets 2.0 + Triple Bonus!

=====================================================

Why is there a time limit on the DVD bonuses?
Well, simply because Frank is a believer in 'call to action' tactics (and the fulfilment does take time!)

Whatever! If it's a free bonus, count me in! I would usually ignore TIME SENSITIVE BONUSES...but in this instance, I know that the bonuses are excellent and worth many $000's!

Bonuses aside, remember, Traffic Secrets 2.0 is all about...

- Social Media Marketing & Strategy
- Advanced Content Syndication
- Cutting-Edge Video Marketing & SEO
- Leveraging Software & Widgets
- Setting Up Automatic 'Content Factories'
- Building An Affiliate Army
- and so much more.

With that said, everyone and there mother is busy trying to promote TS2.

For what it's worth can I just say:

Don't be bullied in to buying Traffic Secrets 2.0 - nobody can or should tell you what to do.

However, if you're thinking "I want in" buy it today and get the 2 superb DVDs free!
If you're unsure, if you have some nagging doubt, hold off for a while. Take your time to think about it. While the DVD offer will have passed, Traffic Secrets 2.0 will still be here - tomorrow, at the weekend and for months and years to come!

(By the way, you can read my review of TS2 here: Murrari's Review of Traffic Secrets 2.0)

Catch y'all soon - I'm off to read TS2 ;) For me, it was totally right....how 'bout you?

Note: E240 has won the Camtasia contest. The prize has been emailed to you.

I will giveaway a registered version of Hypercam 2 so you won't have that annoying Unregistered Hypercam 2 sign on all of your recordings. Here are the details.

HyperCam captures the action from your Windows screen and saves it to AVI (Audio-Video Interleaved) movie file. Sound from your system microphone is also recorded.

This handy program is also the base of creating your own music video!

This is a "Where is that item from?" contest. The picture is below.

Tell me where what room is this object from and how you may find this (you'll understand why you need to tell me this if you find this object) This object may be found anywhere on CP within the actual game. (not on fan art or anywhere else) It is not in missions, games, an igloo, book or newspaper. It is in a room and very hard to find! To become first place, you must find the location of the object first. Good luck.

Prizes:

1st place - Registered Version of HyperCam2 & Beta tester for my new widget. Should be available sometime next week!

2nd place - Beta tester for my new widget

Contest ends July 17th.

tag: Church and State

What happens in Kerala in the name of a seventh standard Lesson on religion can only be described as chimaerical roadshow. It is not an innocent sort of reaction from some fundamentalists, but a calculated move to create confusion, much ado about nothing. As Dr. Yeshpal, the eminent educationist said, we need to congratulate the persons who worked behind in producing such a useful text for study. The controversial text is about a child's admission to a primary school. Child's father is a Muslim and mother, a Hindu. The Headmaster asks for the religion of the child for which they answer the teacher, "no religion." This surprises the teacher who cautions that there may arise problems in his future life if the child is not a member of a religious community. The father answers that if the child when grows up should feel that he needs a religion, he can very well take a decision at that time. It is this story that has infuriated certain sections of religious and political parties who started street demonstrations and hunger strikes. The United Democratic Front, the frontal organization of all the opposition parties in Kerala under the lead of the Indian National Congress decided to take up the agitation until the book is revoked. It is shame on the so called secular parties to rally together against a very sensible moral value promoted in the text book, freedom to choose one's religion.
No religion would accept the use of coercion make someone accept any religion to please somebody, or to promote some communal interest. It is true that children normally follow the religion of the parents, though that is not the method advocated by any religious founders. All religions are built upon the logic that it is accepted by an individual freely. Other wise no new religion would have been possible. In the case of parents belonging to different religions it is not easy to choose the religion of the child. Therefore it is only logical that it should be left to the child to take a mature decision later in life. The text book simply inculcate this basic value of any democratic society. What message is now communicated to the growing children through this controversy? I think it gives a negative meaning of religion as something that stifles human freedom and spirituality. Religion is thus presented not as promoting the welfare of individuals and communities, rather as something tailored to suite someone's shape, manufactured to serve the interests of some one else. Such caricature of religion destroys the basic purpose of religion and religion is turned to a blind ideology. It is good that there were some leaders belonging to several communities who raised their voice against such a gross misrepresentation of religion. Future society of Kerala would certainly thank such leaders like Mor Milethius of the Orthodox Church, Mor Coorilos of the Jacobite Church, Mar Paulose of the Mar Thoma Church and Bishop P. K. Kuruvilla of the CSI North Kerala Diocese. Kerala Christian council, the ecumenical body of the Protestant Churches also voiced its dissent to the stand taken by the Inter-church Council which want the book to be revoked.

Here are some tips on working with the our Wordpress blogs.

Widget troubles? If you go an choose a different "Theme" (log-in, go to "Design" and click any thumbnail) you might not realize that some themes have limited features. The main limit I have seen is that some themes don't allow you to easily customize and move around your widgets. (Widgets are the sections of links, blogrool, recent posts, login link, etc. that appear in the sidebar of your blog. Dynamic Widgets refers to your ability to drag and drop the widgets to change their order and content - this is done by logging in, clicking "Design" then clicking "widgets".) SO if you choose a Theme which doesn't support dynamic widgets, you will see a message to that effect, once you choose a new theme and click "Widgets". You can still change the widgets in themes that don't support dynamic widgets, but it's pretty involved - you have to edit the HTML and CSS by hand. So anyway, if you aren't into HTML and CSS, choose a theme that supports dynamic widgets.

FYI, you can change your theme anytime, and it will not erase your previous posts - it just puts a new skin on your entire blog (all posts, old and new).

To modify the links in your blogroll: Log-in, click on "Manage", then click on "Links" - this is where the links are that are in your blogroll widget.

How to turn off the need for moderation (approval) in comments: Log-in, click on "Settings" (top right of page) and then click "Discussion" over on the left.

If you want to put a link in a comment, you need to know a little bit of really simple HTML. Here's an example of what the code looks like to make a link to Google:
