So here is our football boy! He was so excited to go to play football!  Go figure! He didn't want anything to do with it when I first brought it up.  He just needed some time to work it through his brain and decide that it would be a good idea.  Next thing I know he is asking me if I had signed him up yet.  (Yes, that is one of his soccer shirts below his new football tee.)

Here is his number.  Oh my baby is growing up! This is his first numbered "jersey".  He was so excited to be number 17.

First the warm up exercises.  BTW, yes that is the team's token girl.  She did well and Troy and another boy were hanging on her.  *eye roll*

Now on to learning how to hike.  Here Troy is receiving.

Troy was patiently waiting, then he remembered that he knows it all and decided to give one of the coaches some advice.

Here he is receiving a pass.  They learned how to hold their hands when they receive the ball, (which he isn't doing here.)

This is what happens if you allow too much down time with kids standing around.  Look at Troy's shirt.  Yep, he wanted to be able to see his own number!  I had to make him turn it around.

Alright already, on to the game!!!  The group was broken up into four groups during practice.  Then two of the teams paired up to play each other.

They did plenty of running.  They only played about two or three plays before the "game" ended.

It may be hard to see, but Troy is holding a flag he grabbed from the player running the ball.  He actually got a flag each play.  He was so very proud of getting the flags.  (However, the first one was pulled after the play was finished as the boy ran well past the "touch down" area.)  This picture was taken at the end of the last play of the game.

Here David is consoling Troy.  Troy just realized that he wasn't going to get an opportunity to wear a flag and have a turn to run a play.  He was just devastated.

Here all the teams came together for a closing cheer.  Troy had recovered by this time.

He might have been Daddy's son on the field, but here he comes to tell me all about it!  That's my boy!

Now there have been massive debates over Obama's and Palin's experience.  I certainly understand both sides' argument.  But in almost any job, typing is some sort of requirement. Not that you should type at 1000 words per minute but, at least, know how to type. That experience is critical.

In the great state of NY(which in my 30 years have never been a fan of), absentee ballots were sent out with Senator Obama's name spelled as "OSAMA".  WTF?

Now, granted, the best spell check software probably wouldnt have caught that slip. But the officials in Troy, NY somehow allowed this slip as they issued a good number of absentee ballots. Now the officials, Edward McDonough(D) and Larry Bugbee(R) admit that there was an error but never detailed what the error was.

McDonough says "It's human error...". I will admit that I am new to blogging and make errors here and there. But I am not new to typing. Anyone who is taught formally (or informally) how to type know that the "S" and the "B" are NO WHERE NEAR EACH OTHER!

Had the ballot read "Ohama" or "Oyama", hey! I undestand. But OSAMA? C'mon, 6 year old niece could see through that without her imaginary x ray goggles! 

Again, fear tactics are still the fall back plan for desperate conservatives. From the "that one" (debatable, but my personal opinion is that was not racially motivated) to the McCain supporter today saying "He's not, he's not, he's not...He's an arab!" to McCain's face. 

McCain's campaign and his supporters (let me be specific, those of you scared that the white house will be painted black..get real!) are truly looking like something out of Dumb and Dumber.

God, please bless America! We need a little help.  (Maybe I should be careful of what I wish for)

Ada beberapa teman malah bilang aku itu maniak nonton. Suatu saat aku pengen banget bikin film, dan terlibat dalam suat pembuatan film. Kayanya seru juga tuh.

Terkadang liburan aku habiskan dengan menonton marathon di salah satu bioskop. Apalagi kalau lagi bete, wah obat ampuh juga itu selain mendengarkan musik.

Tidak jarang aku menonton satu film lebih dari sekali. Mungkin biasa saja, kalau aku lakukan di rumah, tapi ini ga. Aku lebih memilih menonton di bioskop. Karena buat aku, aku lebih puas dengan gambar dan sound nya. Beda sama di rumah.

Beberapa film yang ku ingat, aku tonton lebih dari sekali di bioskop. Antara lain : Narnia and The Prince of Caspian (4 kali), Kung Fu Panda (5 kali), Laskar Pelangi (4 kali), Hell Boy II ( 2 kali). Sejauh ini, rekor masi di pegang oleh si Po di Kung Fu Panda.

Ada beberapa alasan aku memilih menonton beberapa judul di atas lebih dari satu kali. Untuk Narnia, karena memang aku sangat menyukai alur ceritanya, optimisme dan kemampuan dari rakyat Narnia untuk bertahan. Dan pada dasarnya, aku memang penyuka film-film kolosal. Bagian paling aku suka dari sekuel Narnia ini , adalah bagian dimana pas perang, pasukan yang dipimpin oleh Prince Caspian keluar dari bawah tanah, merobohkan benteng tersebut, sehingga tentara-tentara musuh diatas, jatuh semua, sehingga mereka bisa dikepung. Strategi perang yang hebat.

Kung Fu Panda, karena sarat dengan pesan moral dan mengajarkan banyak hal berguna untuk dapat kita pakai dalam menempuh mimpi dan keinginan. Sangat banyak hal berkesan yang aku dapat dari film ini. Oogway : there are no accident. Yah, tidak ada yang kebetulan di dunia ini, bahwa semuanya sudah ada alurnya, sudah ada jalan ceritanya. Kemauan kuat dari Po untuk terus latihan, sekalipun malam pertama dia tinggal di Shaolin, dia sudah diusir oleh macan, dan diperlakukan tidak ramah oleh pendekar yang lain. Dan pada akhirnya Po menerima tidak ada resep rahasia atau resep istimewa. Yang membuat sesuatu itu terlihat istimewa, karena kita menganggapnya istimewa, itu saja!

Hell Boy karena memang film ini lucu. Tidak terlalu banyak pesan moral yang disampaikan. Paling pada bagian Liz berkeras untuk menyelamatkan Red saja yang cukup menyentuh. Tapi malah kalau bisa dibilang, bagian paling mengharukan pada saat Blue harus berpisah dengan cintanya, Putri Nuana.

Laskar Pelangi. Apa yang bisa awak katakana untuk film terbaik tahun ini? Perfect. Pesan moralnya, dahsyat. Memang tidak semua yang terjadi di novelnya dipaparkan di filmnya, namanya juga adaptasi, tidak harus semuanya toh di angkat ke layar lebar. Mulai dari awal, Lintang jadi murid nomor satu yang tiba di sekolahnya. Naik kereta angin sejauh kurang lebih 40km, hanya untuk bersekolah. Belum lagi, dia harus melewati rawa buaya setiap hari. Hujan, panas, tidak dia pedulikan. Belum lagi, dia yang harus mengurus ketiga adik perempuannya yang masih kecil, karena sehari-harinya ayah mereka ke laut, bekerja sebagai nelayan. Dan ibu mereka sudah meninggal. Lintang satu-satunya anak lelaki tertua di keluarganya. Harusnya, ayahnya tidak menyekolahkannya, harusnya ayahnya mengajak dia kelaut, supaya ayahnya dapat ikan lebih banyak. Tapi ayahnya punya mimpi yang tinggi terhadap anak laki-laki satu-satunya itu. Dan Lintang pun demikian, dia tau bahwa nasib hanya bisa dia rubah melalui pendidikan dan mencapai cita-cita yang tinggi. Tapi keadaan memaksa Lintang untuk meninggalkan bangku sekolah lebih awal. Karena ayahnya meninggal, maka dia harus mengambil alih tanggung jawab keluarga dan bertanggung jawab terhadap ketiga adiknya itu. Di usia yang masih anak-anak, dia sudah sangat mengerti akan apa itu penderitaan dan tanggung jawab.

Bagian yang menyedihkan, pada saat Ikal, sahabatnya, menangisi Lintang saat pamit ke sekolah. Pada saat pak Harfan meninggal, pada saat Ikal patah hati karena ditinggal pergi A Ling ke Jakarta, saat mereka harus ngangon kambing sehabis hujan, saat bu Muslimah tak sanggup pergi mengajar karena begitu kehilangan sepeninggal pak Harfan.

Tapi, yang tidak kalah menggelitik, pada saat Samson mencoba “mempraktekkan” resep yang katanya bisa menjadikan Ikal dan A Kiong menjadi laki-laki pujaan kaum hawa, pada saat Mahar seperti orang gila mencari inspirasi untuk karnaval, saat Ikal nervous mempersiapkan pertemuannya dengan A Ling. Dan yang tidak kalah mengharukan, pada saat bu Mus datang untuk mengajar, pada saat mereka memenangkan karnaval, memenangkan cerdas cermat, bersepeda mengejar pelangi. Ah Mira Lesmana dan Riri Riza memang sangat perfecto. Numero uno.

TMD, him, and myself (bad grammar there, possibly?) were going to go out for a big, fat Mexican meal. I stood on the corner for ages waiting for both of them. Every few minutes there was a loud scream from the square. I ignored it, assuming it was just another winter-type carnival with a particularly stomach twisting ride.

Turns out it was the fucking premiere of High School Musical 3. By the time I decided to weave my way to the red carpet I'd missed most of the big stars. While my back was turned to look for TMD, I apparently missed Sharpei (bad spelling maybe?). How irritating that I could have got a picture of Troy and then made my own Troy flair. Not that I'm obsessed with little online buttons sporting his visage, no.

Sometimes I forget how cool this city is. All that aside, though, I'm glad I moved out of it.

Seguro se trata de uno de los recursos más usuales en publicidad, y es que muchos piensan que no hay nada más valioso ni con más toque aspiracional, que ver a cuadro un famoso o alguien con quien te identificas como persona te diga qué hacer, cómo comer tal cosa, qué desodorante usar o incluso qué condón ponerte.

Así pues tenemos la viva y correspondiente entrada de ciertos famosos y otros no tanto en esta campaña de gráfica, que nos dicen su verdad alrededor de la marca Love Condoms:

La creatividad sinceramente me arrancó una imperiosa risa que se mantuvo ejecución a ejecución, y aunque en la mayoría de los países tendría cierto baneo debido a las imágenes que propone, parece que en Bélgica (de donde es originaria la Agencia Troy que realizó esta campaña) la gente es mucho más abierta y tolera el firme trabajo que se realiza en aquel país.

Finalmente y como un buen deseo, sólo espero que los Directores de Arte y demás involucrados no hayan acabado con un trauma después de esta campaña. Si es así la gráfica, ya me imagino cómo será la televisión.

Mi favorito -en el correcto uso de la palabra-, es la versión Bill Gates :D

While the scholars believed for long time that the legendary city spans on a surface of at most 27 hectares, in fact Troy was located on a surface of 35 hectares, Pernicka told the German media. The new season of "Boston Legal" began  few weeks ago. Tonight on ABC it continues with Episode 3 of Season 5. I've been a fan of this show since it spun off from "The Practice", and must say it's really good. Also on tonight is the movie "Troy". Never really sat down to watch this, but I have heard it's great. If you want to catch it tonight, check out AMC.

Troy Bayliss è nato il 30 marzo 1969 a Taree, in Australia.
Ex carrozziere, specializzato nella verniciatura a spray, inizia a cimentarsi con gare motociclistiche, di motocross e dirt track, all'età di 10 anni ma inizia veramente la sua carriera da pilota nel 1992 quando si iscrive nel campionato 250SP mentre nella stagione successiva passa alla classe 600. Nel 1994 partecipa alla sua seconda stagione del campionato australiano 600 si classifica sesto, l'anno successivo addirittura quarto, quest'ennesimo ottimo risultato lo proietta in sella alla squadra ufficiale Kawasaki Superbike che nel 1996 gli permette di terminare al terzo posto il campionato.

In quest anno, all'età di 28 anni, le sue capacità si manifestano a livello mondiale, passato alla Suzuki Australia, partecipa come wild card alla tappa del Campionato Mondiale Superbike a Phillip Island, dove già partecipavano campioni come Aaron Slight e Colin Edwards, si classificò in entrambe le manche al 5 posto. A fine stagione viene selezionato per sostituire un pilota infortunato nel team Suzuki 250 al Gran Premio d'Australia, dove lotta per il podio ma terminando al sesto posto. Queste prestazioni attirano l'attenzione del team britannico GSE Ducati, che gli offre la possibiltà di correre nel Campionato Britannico Superbike, Bayliss accetta e si trasferisce in Inghilterra con la famiglia. Nella prima stagione prende confidenza con le piste e la nuova moto e termina ottavo ma nella seconda stagione è l'assoluto dominatore del campionato inglese, con 6 vittorie e 14 piazzamenti sul podio si laurea Campione Britannico Superbike.

La Ducati decide di promuoverlo e lo trasferisce in America, a prender parte al campionato delle maxi moto in sella al team Ducati Vance & Hines. La stagione inizia nel miglior dei modi, guadagnadosi la pole position nella 200 Miglia di Daytona. In contemporanea nella sua terra il pluri-campione del mondo SBK, Carl Fogarty si infortuna in un incidente dove terminerà la sua carriera, l' australiano viene scelto dalla squadra ufficiale Ducati Corse, capitanata da Paolo Ciabatti e dall'ex pilota attuale team manager e suo grande estimatore, Davide Tardozzi. Esordisce a Sugo, in Giappone, pista di proprietà Yamaha, in mezzo alle montagne. Na le cose non vanno bene: infatti in gara 1 cade alla prima curva e in gara due viene steso sempre alla prima curva dal compagno di squadra, il surfer di Laguna Seca, Ben Bostrom. Dopo la brutta prova, Troy viene rispedito in America e sostituito a sua volta da Luca Cadalora, ma neanche lui riesce a soddisfare le aspettative Ducati. Per il round italiano SBK, svoltosi sul circuito di Monza viene richiamato Bayliss, dove pur non vincendo, lascia il segno grazie ad uno fra i più grandi sorpassi che si possano ricordare. Infatti sul rettitlineo d'arrivo è al quinto posto, davanti ha Edwards, Chili, Yanagawa e Haga, alla staccata della prima variante dopo un rettilineo da 300 km/h sorpassa tutti quanti e fa esplodere il pubblico. Al termine della stagione si classificherà sesto, pur avendo saltato le prime sei prove del mondiale, ottenendo però ben nove podi e due vittorie ad Hockenheim e Brands Hatch.

Nel 2001, sempre in sella ad una Ducati, la 996R, Troy finalmente si laurea campione del mondo, sale ben 15 volte sul podio ed è il dominatore del campionato vincendo il mondiale addirittura prima del termine della stagione. Ad Imola, ultima gara, si presenta già da campione del mondo. Però in gara 1 cade e si rompe la clavicola, in un arrembante duello con l'RSVmille Aprilia di Regis Laconi e non potrà festeggiare la stagione nel miglior dei modi.

Nel 2002, ancora più in forma della stagione precedente, nei primi 3 round si aggiudica 6 manche, un bottino pieno, dove lui e la 998 non lasciano spazio ad altri piloti, fino a che Edwards con la VTR Honda al suo Secondo Step d'evoluzione (VTR 1000SP-2), si impadronirà del mondiale. Da Laguna Seca Edwards inizia una strabiliante serie di vittorie consecutive, 9 per l'appunto, e Troy pur avendo un ottimo vantaggio incappa in una caduta in gara due ad Assen, dove il rivale effettua il sorpasso. Come se non bastasse Bayliss incappa anche in un incidente in qualifica a Brands Hatch con il compagno di squadra Ruben Xaus. A Imola davanti a 100.000 persone, all'ultimo round, Bayliss ha 1 punto di svantaggio su Edwards. I due danno vita ad una grandissima lotta che porta questa gara ad essere una tra più belle che il campionato ricordi. Edwards forte della sua classe e sicuro della sua moto vince entrambe le manche e si laurea campione del mondo per la seconda volta, ed a Bayliss non resta altro che lanciare il casco ai tifosi ed accontentarsi del secondo posto.

Nel 2003, una nuova sfida viene raccolta da Bayliss, l'approdo della Ducati in MotoGP. La moto è la Desmosedici, Desmosedici GP3, un V4 a L da 989 cm/C, affiancato dall'espertissimo pilota italiano Loris Capirossi, si presentano a Suzuka in gran forma. Loris si classifica terzo e Troy quinto. In tutta la stagione Troy raccoglie tre podi e uno straordinario sorpasso all'esterno, sul bagnato a Donington ai danni di Valentino Rossi sulla Honda RC211V, campione del mondo in questa stagione. A fine campionato si classifica sesto assoluto.

Nel 2004 inizia una nuova stagione e nuova moto, la Desmosedici, in versione Desmosedici GP4 si presenta completamente rinnovata, ma l'innovazione portata da Ducati si presenta un'agonia per gran parte della stagione. Troy fatica in ogni pista, anche a Phillip Island pista di casa per Troy. Ormai Ducati non ripone più fiducia nel suo uomo immagine ed a Valencia, ormai alla sua ultima gara, Troy guadagna il suo unico podio in rimonta, ma perde comunque il posto in sella alla moto di Borgo Panigale, sostituito, non senza dissenzi da parte dei tifosi, per l'anno successivo da Carlos Checa. Chiude 14esimo assoluto in un campionato vinto ancora da Valentino Rossi passato però alla guida della Yamaha M1.

Ultima stagione in MotoGP nel 2005, con cambio di marchio, Troy si accasa in Honda, con la RC211V 5 cilindri del Team di Sito Pons. Lo scarso feeling con la moto non lo porterà mai a conquistare buoni risultati. A tre gare dal termine si infortuna al polso in allenamento, rompendolo in più punti e abbandonando la stagione. Per lui il miglior risultato è un 5° posto nel GP degli Stati Uniti concludendo 15esimo alla fine di un campionato vinto ancora una volta da Valentino Rossi sempre in sella alla Yamaha M1.

Nel 2006 si torna a casa, Tardozzi, suo ex team manager, riesce a riportarlo nel mondiale SBK, nella squadra dove ha già vinto il mondiale. La nuova moto, la 999, è già campione del mondo 2003 e 2004 sia marche che piloti, con Hodgson prima e Toseland poi. Troy è in gran forma e conquista il suo secondo mondiale con tre gare d'anticipo. Contemporaneamente si trova a dover sostituire per la terza volta in carriera un pilota infortunato, Sete Gibernau, pilota ufficiale Ducati MotoGP. All'inizio non voleva neanche partecipare, ma decide ugualmente di correre l'ultima gara di Valencia. Il titolo di campione del mondo MotoGP è ancora da assegnare, e vede la lotta fra Valentino Rossi con la Yamaha M1 e Nicky Hayden con la Honda RC211V. Nonostante ciò Troy è un terminator, dal venerdì mattina alla domenica non ha mai nessuno davanti, sempre primo, qualifiche e gara, vince nello stupore generale, da un anno che non guidava una GP, da 2 anni una Ducati GP, mai viste le gomme Bridgestone. Un ottima rivincita dopo aver perso il posto nel team Ducati MotoGP.

L'anno scorso Troy corre da campione del mondo, ma sempre con il numero 21 sul cupolino, l'ultima volta con l'1 di campione ha perso il mondiale per un punto. Troy ha un mezzo inferiore rispetto alle 1000 giapponesi e fatica tutta la stagione per tenere il passo dei rivali, ma anche con il gap tecnico è in palla e per tutto il campionato fa vedere di esser competitivo, ma una caduta a Donington gli rovina la stagione ed è costretto a perdere anche una falange del mignolo della mano destra. E qui si nota la pazzia, l'agonismo e l'incredibile voglia di correre che ha fatto breccia nel cuore dei tifosi, poichè ai dottori in clinica mobile disse di amputarglielo subito perché voleva correre gara 2, anche se poi i medici subito non lo fecero sperando di guarirlo, ma vi furono però costretti in seguito. Alla fine del campionato si classifica quarto, dietro a Biaggi, Haga e Toseland che si laurea campione per la seconda volta.

Quest'anno si chiude il capitolo. Troy è arrivato all'ultima stagione. Dopo tornerà in Australia con la famiglia, l'obiettivo è diventare campione per la terza volta, con tre moto differenti, con la terza generazione di moto stradali Ducati, la 1098 che è il nuovo gioiello Ducati. La 1098R da corsa gode di 1200 cm/C grazie al nuovo regolamento. Dopo la sfortunata scivolata in gara 2 a Vallelunga, senza la quale si sarebbe laureato campione del mondo, Troy diventa finalmente tale giungendo terzo in gara 1 sul circuito di Magny-Cours e primo in gara 2.

Per celebrare il suo terzo titolo, è stata preparata la maglia "3MENDO".

In the novel The Red Badge of Courage Stephen Crane tells a story about a young boy in the union army during The War Between the States.  He uses the youth to help portray what it may be like for soldiers at war, showing us what war may really be like.  Crane displays to us the inner struggle that the youth faces throughout the novel. In the novel the youth faces many inner struggles that help to transform him into no longer being a youth but a man.  The youth struggles with his thoughts on courage and manhood as well as his place in nature.

 

            In the novel Stephen Crane tries to portray the average soldier.  His goal in trying to get in the head of a single soldier seemed much more effective then previous authors, who focused more on the battles as a whole.  His example shows us what soldiers during time of war may go through giving us a better idea of what really happens during war time in the heads of soldiers.  He does this through the eyes of a young union soldier, who is trying to find himself.  The youth displays all of the feelings, regrets and realizations that soldiers at war may feel allowing him to be a good example of a common soldier  For these reasons The Red Badge of Courage is considered a literature of war.

 

The quote explains the youths final realization on his inner struggles throughout the book, making the quote significant to the book.  In the novel the youth comes to war believing that all men die glorified in someway and that he needs to live up to that so he can prove himself a man.  The youth from the beginning of the book compares man and himself to nature trying to justify his actions.  He also struggles with natures disregard for human life.  He finds, however; after running from battle, having various encounters with nature, and then owning up to his mistakes, that his original thoughts were very wrong allowing him to come to a final realization at the end of the novel.

           

            The quote shows the youths final conclusion and how he becomes at peace with himself.  He has realizes that to be a man isn’t just about the glory and greatness one can achieve in war.  It’s more about realizing your mistakes and owning up to them and just doing what one is supposed to do.  The youth also comes to a realization about nature and mans role in nature. He finds that nature is just nature and doesn’t care about man.  He also realizes that death is a part of nature and while all men want to die with glory we will all die with or with out it, which is what many characters in various books struggle with such as Hamlet and his struggle with death.  Henry in the end makes peace with his inner struggles.

 

           

]]> <![CDATA[Air Show]]> http://davidandmelissa99.wordpress.com/?p=149 Sat, 04 Oct 2008 16:36:03 +0000 memellie http://davidandmelissa99.pl.wordpress.com/2008/10/04/air-show/ I volunteered to help at our booth at the air show.  Our Scott Officer Spouses' Club had a booth to help raise some money for our organization.  We give away thousands of dollars each year, so it was a worth while project.  This is the organization that I volunteered to be the Membership Chairperson this year.  Anyway, all that said, but I don't have any pictures of me at our booth.

After my shift was finished I met up with David and Troy and we got to see the different planes as well as see the Thunder Birds performance.  Troy loves the hands on and being able to get behind the "wheel" of the planes and helecopters. See what I mean? Look at this smile.

Here he's inside a HUMWV.

Here Troy was inside a KC-21 that was set up to move a critical patient.  This is just one of those mannequins but check out the look on Troy's face.  Yes, he knew it wasn't real, but he didn't want to get real close either!

I love these types of pictures of my "boys".  Troy is still small enough to be able to sit on David's shoulders.  I can get him on mine too, just not near as long as he used to stay up there.

Nearly 30 local athletes ventured to Grafton Lakes State Park Sunday (9/27/08) for a morning of exercise on the water as the park hosted its 22nd annual Barge Chaser canoe and kayak races. The race, which was sponsored by the Northern New York Paddlers, began with participants lining up on the beach of Long Pond as the announcer's megaphone echoed across the water and throughout the park property.

After a few quick tips on directions and avoiding underwater rocks, the paddlers sat waiting in the water at the starting line for a causal morning race. "It's just a casual, short fall race where people can come out, have some fun, and come back for cider and donuts afterward," said Sue Knapik, of the Northern New York Paddlers, who noted that the event used to be held on the Mohawk River, where it earned the name "Barge Chaser."

Athletes competed in both a long course, which measured seven miles, and a short course, which measured three miles, and were divided into a number of classes to separate whether competitors were in canoes or kayaks, paddling tandem or solo, their age groups, gender, and experience.
"We generally try to make sure that we don't have any more than three boats put in the same class so that everyone can be awarded either first, second, or third place," said Knapik.

The shorter course consisted of one lap around Long Pond while the long course included the same initial lap in addition to a portage where paddlers exited the pond, carrying their canoes or kayaks over their shoulders to the nearby Second Pond, completed two laps there and carried their boats back to Long Pond once again for a final lap to reach the finish line.

Out of a total 16 boats in the water, 11 of them completed the long course, according to Knapik.
After the race was over, paddlers were invited to stick around for a potluck picnic and were awarded low-key prizes for their efforts. "For prizes we've done everything from a pine cone stuck on a board to combination whistle lights because of the fact that paddlers on navigable waterways have to have a sounding device with them so their position can be known," said Knapik.

The event was the final race the Northern New York Paddlers participated in for the season after past races were held in Glenville in July and Scotia in June. As for the sport of paddling itself, Knapik said that interest in canoeing had been dwindling in recent years due to a rising popularity of inexpensive single-rider kayaks which allow people to go out on the water by themselves and are much easier to carry and transport.
