despite/because of (depending on how you look at it) my current incapability for coherent thought, i have decided to blog. hopefully this attempt to get gears whirring into motion will drag my brain out from its current hiatus and back into the real world. and maybe, just maybe, the fact that the whole of term 3 has just whizzed by with me doing nothing will register. 

maybe its time to reflect. in the past, each december would see me looking at the year that had just passed and wondering why it had passed so quickly. now, even during the year everything seems like a blur. the days fall like autumn leaves to the ground. so easily swayed by prevailing air currents, yet making almost no impact on the world around. landing silently, softly, unnoticed. and if you arent careful, the tree will be bare before anyone realises.

whose approval do i need. friends? family? teachers? myself? God's? or maybe just everyones. in actuality, i think the only approval im searching for is from those who currently disapprove. although i guess thats the only logical answer to the question.

todays TOK focus day certainly proved enriching. but it also proved how pointless it is (to me at least) to argue on points like the good life and religion. it is almost impossible to determine the true definition of a good life without being accused of forcing ones own ideas onto others. what a suffocating world we live in.

let it be

Maybe not the "last frontier" but a land of history, mystery, adventure, and fun.  "How does one get to Alaska?", I have been asked.  Many want to go by train.  But the train doesn't go  north and south from Canada to Alaska.  It does run from Whittier to Fairbanks, east and west.  So, what are our options?

CRUISE LINES.  There are a number of large ships and a few smaller ships who go from San Francisco, Seattle or Vancouver, BC.  There is also the Alaska State Ferry that goes from Bellingham, WA.  Let's talk about each of these:

• From San Francisco is 10 nights round trip to the Glaciers and back.  Very few ships do this.  They go outside the Passage because of the distance so they can go faster.
• From Seattle.  Many ships are now doing this route round trip to the Glaciers and back in 7 nights.  Because of the old Jones Act, they have to make a stop in a foreign port - usually Victoria or Prince Rupert, Canada-for a few hours the last night.  These ships must go at least one direction outside the Passage.  The water can be rough and you miss the most beautiful part of the trip. 
• From Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 7 nights to the Glaciers and back..  The most ideal because you get the inside passage.  This route has very narrow channels with majestic mountains.  You just watch for hours as the ship winds it's way past small villages, sometimes dolphins and often whales.
• From Vancouver, BC to Seward or Whittier, Alaska or reverse for 7 nights and fly one way.  This way you get more glaciers, plus you can add on a land tour to Denali Park or even on up to Fairbanks before or after the cruise.  This is the most ideal especially if you will only go once in your lifetime, which is doubtful.  Once you see this magnificient place, you will want to go back.
• At this time there are 2 small ship companies doing cruises out of Juneau, Alaska.  This is a wonderful way to get up close with nature.  No big ship amenities, no dress codes.  Only amazing sites along the way.
• The Alaska State Ferries allow you to drive your car onboard, get a cabin or sleep on the deck.  Stopping in several ports, this is transportation only.

When to go North?  The cruise ships only go from early May to mid September.  The Ferries go all year long.  Summer has almost 22 hours of daylight.  Summer solstice is June 20th when it is the longest daylight of the whole year.  Party time in Alaska.  No one goes to bed.  No one is tired.  Daylight energizes you.  Winter is just the opposite - not much daylight.   Summer weather is unpredictable so go prepared for anything.  You don't want to miss the sights.  Take a rain poncho in case of a shower any time in the summer.  Winter, take your warmest clothes.  Every season has its own amazing sites.  February has northern light displays that will mesmerize you. 

What do see and do?  There are many different areas in Alaska from the Kenai Peninsula to the Arctic Circle.  This list is only a fraction of what adventure awaits.  Having a car is a good idea and can be rented in Anchorage.  You can also rent motor homes and even have them awaiting you at the pier if you are disembarking a cruise ship.  There are a few places you can't  drive direct but have to put a car on a ferry.

• The Kenai.  This is a long peninsula in Southwest Alaska.  The main town is Homer.  This is the halibut fishing capital of the world.  Trophy-sized halibut are caught here, but the best tasting are smaller ones.  You also have the Kenai River, famous for salmon fishing.  Many charter companies will give you a thrill.  Wildlife abound and watch for the moose and bear on the roads.  
• Whittier is the end of the cruise for one cruise line.  From there you are put on a train and taken to Denali Park.  Along the way you pass   amazing sites in your dome train car.   Seward is the end for other cruise lines and you can take a motor coach around Portage Bay on your way to Anchorage.
• Anchorage is the capital.  A beautiful city with great restaurants and shopping.  From there head North to Katmai National Park to see bears as they are feeding on salmon.

At Anchorage take the train to Fairbanks.  A slow ride past small villages, towns and amazing scenery.  Pass Palmer where they grow the biggest cabbages in the world because of all the daylight.  Get off in Talketna and go salmon fishing.  Then take a small plane over Mt. McKinley (weather permitting) and land in Kantishna.  This was the last place to buy supplies before heading into some of the mining fields.  Visit Mirror Lake and on a clear day see a picture perfect image of Mt. McKinley. 

Take a bus ride from Kantishna out to Denali Park.  Spend a couple of nights and feel the wilderness.  Visit a sled dog camp and hear the stories of these amazing dogs who absolutely love to run.  Then get back on the train and end in Fairbanks.

There are many things to do and see in Fairbanks.  There is the Discovery paddlewheeler on the Chena and Tanana Rivers stopping at Susan Butcher's sled dog camp as well as the Binkley's native Chena village showcasing many of the native tribes in Alaska and their crafts.  Along the river hear the stories of the fish traps, the gold mining adventures and the sights of Alaska.  Here is where you catch a small plane and fly over to the Arctic Circle and get your certificate.  Visit North Pole, Alaska, part of the pipeline and even KJNP-"the radio station at the top of the nation". 

From Fairbanks you can drive south and visit wonderful historic places such as Tok, Chicken, Dawson City, Whitehorse, Skagway and the capital Juneau.  This part of your journey would not be complete without knowledge of the Gold Rush of 1898.  Read Pierre Burton's books and gain an insight into that historic time of our country and the fever that brought thousands from all over the world to risk their lives for gold. 

Alaska, a wonderful place to vist where they speak English, the dollar is good, the food is wonderful and you feel at home instantly.  Your cares melt away as you come face to face with nature.

Anyway I've decided to start researching colleges. I'm pretty set that I want to go out of state. I'm debating between;

1. California
2. New York
3. Chicago

(can you tell that I kinda want to get the feel of a real urban city?)

On top of picking a college I always have to get a major. Eeek. I was thinking about researching double majors because those sound pretty fun.

I think I want to minor in Japanese, but still clueles.Oh well a little bit of thought will make it all come around.

Die Deebuzz-Crew scheint das geahnt haben und haben sie am 14.07.2007 ins Rude 7 geholt, und es war eine verdammt krasse Party!!! Hammer Stimmung...geile Aktionen (beim Bühnenabgang ordentlich auffe Fresse fliegen) und dazu der Abschluss der Tour....der Abend wird in langer Erinnerung bleiben.

In this case I unlocked one of ten potential flavor entries on Norsca about the Chaos Portal, receiving a small xp reward along with a well-written and fun short (about a page) about a Chaos Sorcerer and a Marauder checking out a Chaos Portal. When the Sorcerer asks the Marauder what he thinks of it, well, I'll just let the text speak for itself:

"Bjorn was lying on the ground in the fetal position, gently rocking and humming to himself. His hands were covered with blood: his own. The Sorcerer stared into the ragged mess of the Marauder's eye sockets. The man had clawed out his own eyes."

This is the kind of news got me excited about the ToK and PvE in general. This might be the single best original Idea that Mythic has brought to the MMOG market. Now this isn't clearly "new" because almost every game to date puts you in the hero shoes or shoes of great importance. Every game creates a huge land with great mountains, ruins, landmarks, easter eggs, and cinematics to progress a storyline. Every game gives your the scene but no story! In every OTHER game that storlyline is the same for anyone that plays it and that's the key to the ToK being so utterly huge to the MMO genre. The great thing is that everyones ToK will be different, but equally fascinating to read.The ToK is like a choose your own adventure novel if the ToK Is infact as deep as Carrie G. (ToK creator and spokeswomen) claims.

I can hope that Mythic will print it into an Italian leather bound book upon the inevitable day I choose to leave the WAR effort, just for me to keep(I really do).

톡을 만들기 전에는 MarsEdit을 약간 썼었다. Ecto는 처음 보는 순간 맘에 들지 않았고, 그나마 쓸만해 보였던 MarsEdit역시 내 입맛에 맞지 않았다. 블로그에다 글만 올려대던 때는 좋았다. 그렇지만 이내 블로그에 그림도 한장씩 올리기 시작했을때에는 이내 두손을 들수밖에 없었던것이, 오프라인에서 블로그 작성을 하도록 하는 블로깅 클라이언트에서 그림을 삽입하고자 할때에는 인터넷에 연결이 되어 있어야 한다는것이다.

MarsEdit은 오프라인에서 작성중인 포스트에 이미지를 삽입하기 전에 삽입하고자 하는 이미지가 이미 웹에 있거나, 아니면 웹에 올린후에 삽입하도록 하는데, 이것이 도저히 내 입맛에 맞지 않았던 것이다. 현재 버전은 어떠한지 모르겠지만, 내가 사용했던 MarsEdit은 정녕 내 입맛에 맞지 않았다.

그래서 톡을 만들었다! 만들면서 가장 어려웠던 것중 하나가 바로 이름붙이기였다. 함수나 클래스 이름을 뭘로 붙일것인가를 놓고 하루종일 손놓고 고민하던 날도 있었으니.. 난 참 이름붙이기에 약한것 같다. 아무튼, 톡이라는 이름은 Tok-Do라는 곳에서 쉽게 따왔다. Dok-Do로 표기하기도 하지만, CIA Factbook에는 Tok-Do로 표기되어 있는데다, 거기다 '독'보다는 '톡'이 어감도 좋은듯 하여 톡이라 이름붙였다. 물론 아이콘도 독도 사진으로 제작했다.

톡은 아직 MarsEdit에 비하면 상당히 기능이 떨어지는 블로그 클라이언트임에도 불구하고 톡이 자랑하는 기능은 마우스 없이 블로그 작성이 가능하다는것과 Core Data를 사용하는만큼 쉽게 백업기능을 추가할수도 있다는 점 등이 되겠다. 아, 톡은 다른 여느 맥 응용프로그램과는 다르게 사용자 설정에서 툴바에 보여지는 아이콘을 마음대로 설정할수 있다. 이것은 다음에 톡을 판매할경우 아이콘에 걸린 저작권 문제를 회피하기 위한 용도로 만들었는데, 사용자 편의를 생각해서도 꽤나 좋은 아이디어 였던것 같다.

현재 톡이 사용하고 있는 프레임워크는, Core Data, WebKit, 그리고 IOKit정도다. Sparkle은 연결을 할지 하지 않을지 아직 결정하지 않았지만, 후에 또다른 프레임워크를 더할 가능성은 아주 크다. 아무튼, 일단 사용하면서 다듬은 후에 베타테스터를 구해 본격적으로 테스트를 하도록 해야겠다.

Al- Fatihah buat Haji Mat Hassan serta seluruh pejuang Islam di Nusantara.

Haji Mat Hassan merupakan seorang tokoh yang tidak asing lagi di mata sejarawan-sejarawan tempatan. Seorang pejuang yang gugur syahid dalam perjuangan mempertahankan kedaulatan Islam.

Siapa Haji Mat Hassan?

Haji Mat Hassan lebih dikenali dengan nama Tok Janggut. Dikatakan beliau mendapat gelaran ini kerana janggut panjangnya. Bagaimana kalau aku katakan yang nama Tok Janggut ini sengaja dipopularkan berbanding dengan nama asal beliau kerana ia adalah SATU STRATEGI BRITISH untuk menenggelamkan atau menyembunyikan unsur-unsur jihad yang diperjuangkan oleh Tuan Haji. Sekadar pendapat peribadi.

Isu 1: Ada apa dengan haji?

Bilamana disebutkan nama seseorang itu bermula dengan Haji, contohnya Haji Wan, akan terbayang kepada kita wajah seorang pakcik yang tenang wajahnya, berkopiah, dan sedang senyum ke arah kita. Satu bayangan atau persepsi yang dirasai oleh semua orang tanpa perlu diajarkan kepada mereka. Kesamaan universal!

Mungkin ada yang kurang faham sejauh mana peranan Haji dalam kebangkitan masyarakat menentang penjajah. Untuk melihat impak Haji ini kita kena terjun dan menyelami situasi masyarakat nusantara pada ketika itu. Haji ketika itu dikenali sebagai satu fenomena! Fenomena Haji AMAT DITAKUTI oleh penjajah sehingga memaksa seorang orientalis yang tersohor, Dr. Christian Snouck Hugronje menjalankan satu penyelidikan khusus bagi mendalami amalan agama dan adat budaya masyarakat setempat.(Acheh)

Hasil dari penyelidikan Snock Hugronje, beliau mengatakan:

"Belanda tidak perlu takut kepada pengaruh Haji Indonesia kerana mereka hanya pulang dengan serban, iaitu symbol Haji semata-mata dan tidak semestinya bersikap benci kepada orang kafir. Tetapi jika mereka pulang dengan ilmu pengetahuan Islam sebagai satu cara hidup lengkap, termasuk politik maka kelompok haji ini mesti diawasi oleh pihak penguasa...."

Hebatnya pengaruh Haji ini sehinggakan British mengeluarkan arahan memaksa Sultan Muhammad IV mengeluarkan titah perintah melarang rakyat (yang dikalangannya terdapat ramai ulama) menyokong kerajaan Turki Uthmaniyyah. Malah British juga memaksa mufti Kelantan ketika itu mengeluarkan satu surat sokongan menyokong kerajaan British dalam peperangan!

Ringkasnya kita dapat simpulkan yang nama Haji Mat Hassan itu sahaja sudah cukup untuk menggerunkan British ketika itu!

Isu 2: Cukai yang membebankan

Semasa dibangku sekolah dahulu, aku diajar yang kebangkitan Tok Janggut adalah disebabkan oleh cukai semata-mata. Sebelum pergi dengan lebih jauh lagi, syabas dan tahniah aku ucapkan kepada pihak kementerian kerana hari ini fakta tersebut telah diperbetulkan!

Sultan Mansur merupakan Sultan Kelantan yang memakai gelaran Sultan Muhammad III. Sultan Mansur merupakan seorang sultan yang taat beragama dan warak. Baginda termasuk umara' yang mendampingi ulama. Antaranya adalah, Haji Abdul Malik Sungai Pinang, Tok Ku Syed Hakim@Syed Muhammad bin Syed Alwi, Imam Haji Nik Wan Daud, Imam Haji Abdullah, Imam Haji Mahmud Tuan Padang, Haji Muhammad Ta', Haji Ismail Langgar, Haji Daud Kampung Menuang, Haji Taib anak Tuan Padang dan Haji Nik Abdul Rahman Dakwat. (Perhatikan kaitan Haji dan ulama!!!)

Sultan Mansur Syah telah menguatkuasakan perlaksanaan undang-undang SYARAK dalam acara guaman sama ada jenayah ataupun mal. Selain perlaksanaan undang-undang hudud ke atas pencuri dan qisas ke atas pembunuh, baginda juga menguatkuasakan undang-undang ta'zir ke atas orang-orang yang tidak berpuasa dan perempuan yang tidak menutup aurat.

Sesungguhnya, zaman Sultan Mansur merupakan suatu zaman gemilang dalam sejarah perundangan Islam dan kehidupan keagamaan rakyat negeri Kelantan. Daulat Tuanku.

Kelantan menerima pengaruh British yang bertindak sebagai penasihat semenjak tahun 1903 namun British terlibat secara lansung dalam pentadbiran Kelantan selepas 1910 setelah Kelantan membantah Perjanjian British-Siam 1909.

Campurtangan British dalam pentadbiran Sultan Muhammad IV menyaksikan British memperkenalkan peraturan baru. Antaranya adalah Sistem Pemilikan Tanah Torrens! Bilamana system ini diperkenalkan, secara automatiknya ia menolak undang-undang tanah tradisional Melayu.

Apa undang-undang tanah tradisional Melayu?

Nah, buka mata anda. Ketahuilah semua bahawa undang-undang tanah tradisional Melayu adalah undang-undang tanah ISLAM!!, iaitu berdasarkan prinsip ihya(usaha) dan thajir(tanda). Maka pengenalan system tanah baru sekaligus MENOLAK undang-undang Islam!

Sahabat-sahabat sekalian, kalau sekarang ini bilamana PAS menyuarakan keinginan untuk melaksanakan Hudud, kala itu sudah ada penyokongnya kerana mereka sudah tahu keberkesanannya. Apatah lagi reaksi masyarakat yang ketika itu sememangnya HIDUP di bawah perlaksanaan hukum Islam(Zaman Sultan Mansur), lalu tiba-tiba ingin dihapuskan! Maka ketahuilah sahabat-sahabat semua, perjuangan Tok Janggut dan kawan-kawan bukan setakat menentang cukai yang tinggi tapi yang lebih penting daripada itu adalah perjuangan MENENTANG PENGHAPUSAN UNDANG-UNDANG ISLAM!

Saat itu menyaksikan rakyat membantah cadangan British ini. Surat-surat bantahan dihantar oleh rakyat kepada pihak berkuasa. Salah satunya, datang dari penduduk Kampung Cherang Tuli. Kampung Cherang Tuli merupakan salah sebuah kampung yang terlibat dalam kebangkitan ini. Nah, lihatlah sendiri, penentangan ini BUKAN penentangan cukai semata-mata, tapi PENENTANGAN PENGHAPUSAN UNDANG-UNDANG ISLAM!

Isu 3: Kebangkitan peribadi

Terima kasih kepada saudara Nik Anuar Nik Mahmud di atas kupasan yang cukup menarik dalam isu ini. Mungkin ada yang mengatakan kebangkitan Haji Mat Hassan ini lebih bersifat individu, kebangkitan untuk meraih kepentingan sendiri semata-mata. Atau mungkin ada yang berpendapat pemberontakan ini hanya berpunca dari kekecewaan pembesar daerah mengenai kekuasaan dan kedudukannya.

Aku ingin bertanya:

Berapa usia Tok Janggut@Haji Mat Hassan ketika beliau memimpin penentangan ini?

Tok Janggut pada ketika itu berusia 65 tahun. Ulangan, 65 tahun. Apakah seorang yang sudah berusia sanggup melawan British yang sangat berkuasa itu atas dasar kepentingan diri semata-mata? Bukankah harga yang perlu dibayar dengan menentang British jauh lagi MAHAL berbanding harga cukai tinggi yang dikenakan!

Sahabat,

British punya angkatan tentera yang tidak usah dicerita akan ramainya. Punya puluhan kapal-kapal perang yang sedia membedil mereka-mereka yang membuat angkara.

Tapi mereka yang memberontak di Pasir Puteh ini memiliki apa?

Mereka tidak ada kapal perang.

Mereka tidak ada bedil-bedil atau senapang-senapang secanggih askar British.

Mereka tidak punya angkatan tentera yang ramai.

TAPI MEREKA MEMILIKI SEMANGAT JIHAD FISABILILLAH!!

Semangat inilah yang dibuktikan oleh Khatib Abu Bakar yang berdepan dengan tentera Inggeris berbangsa Sikh tanpa rasa gementar dan takut sedikit pun. Beliau hanya bersenjatakan sebilah golok!

Isu 4: Pemberontakan reaktif

"Pemberontakan di Pasir Puteh ini adalah sebagai satu respon di atas tindakan British yang kurang ajar. Ia hanya bersifat lokaliti semata-mata dan tidak tersusun."

Aku MENOLAK pendapat ini atas beberapa alasan:

1. Seruan Jihad

Shaykh-al-Islam, Khayri Effendi telah mengeluarkan fatwa Jihad-I Ekbar Fardi Ayn terhadap Britain dan sekutu-kutunya pada 14 November 1914. Sebagai reaksinya, British telah mengeluarkan enakmen MELARANG akhbar-akhbar tempatan dari menyiarkan berita mengenai peperangan antara British dengan Turki Utmaniyyah pada 21 November 1914. Pemberontakan Tok Janggut adalah pada 1915.

Jadi macam mana seruan jihad ini boleh sampai di Tanah Melayu? Pertama-tamanya, mari kita melihat siapa itu Haji Mat Hassan.

Tahukah anda Haji Mat Hassan pernah menuntut di Mekah dan berguru dengan Syeikh Wan Ahmad Al-Fathani. Haji Mat Hassan pulang dari Mekah pada tahun 1910.(Rujuk tulisan atas untuk melihat apa yang terjadi di Kelantan pada 1910)

Siapa Syeikh Wan Ahmad? Beliau merupakan guru kepada hampir seluruh ulama nusantara ini! InsyaAllah aku akan mengupas berkenaan Syeikh Ahmad ini. Ringkasnya Syeikh Ahmad ini merupakan pengasas kepada persatuan orang Melayu iaitu Jami'yatul Fathaniyah di Mekah dan dilantik oleh Sultan Abdul Hamid II sebagai Ketua Jawatankuasa Percetakan Kerajaan Othmaniyyah. Malah beliau juga dianugerahkan kerakyatan Uthmaniyyah pada 1889.

Syeikh Wan Ahmad Al-Fathani --> Tuan Haji Mat Hassan

2. Sebelum pemberontakan di Kelantan ini, telah berlaku beberapa siri pemberontakan:

1833, Vietnam(Champa) - Gerakan pembebasan oleh Katip Sumat. Tidak kenal Katip Sumat? Mari aku terjemahkan. Katip Sumat ini adalah nama yang telah mengalami evolusi, asalnya Katip Sumat ini merujuk kepada Khatib Abdul Samad!

Akhir abad ke-19, Indonesia - Cetusan gerakan kesedaran Gerakan Pan-Islamismee oleh Konsul Sadik Bey dan Duta Muhammad Kamil Bey.

1915, 15 Februari, Singapura - Askar-askar Indian Muslim dari pasukan 5^th Light Infantry, di bawah pimpinan Haji Nur Alam Shah, Imam Masjid Kampung Jawa telah memberontak sebagai menyahut seruan jihad Turki Uthmaniyyah.

Sebenarnya 3 pemberontakan ini saling berkait antara satu sama lain. InsyaAllah akan aku ulas di tulisan yang akan datang.

3. Pemberontakan Singapura

Pemberontakan di Singapura menjadi topik perbincangan orang-orang Melayu di Kelantan. Calvert Wells, seorang pegawai British di Kelantan mencatatkan:

"...the Malays in Pasir Mas were said to be discussing the Singapore mutiny before the news was known to the Kelantan Government."

4. Usaha British

Selain dari memaksa Sultan mengeluarkan titah untuk menangkap Tok Janggut dan pengikut-pengikutnya, British juga mengarahkan kapal H.M.S Calmus mengawal Kuala Semerak. Mengapa harus mengawal perairan? Tidak lain dan tidak bukan adalah untuk menghalang bantuan asing tiba.

Bantuan asing itu merujuk kepada siapa? Fikir-fikirkan!

5. Waktu pemberontakan berlaku

Pemberontakan yang dipimpin oleh Tok Janggut ini berlaku pada bulan April. Apa yang uniknya bulan April ini?

Kebiasaanya, pada bulan April, padi telah dituai. Masyarakat pada bulan ini dan beberapa bulan seterusnya hanya melakukan kerja-kerja ringan seperti berkebun dan mengutip hasil-hasil hutan. Maka dengan kata lain, gerakan pada bulan ini tidak akan membantutkan perkembangan ekonomi masyarakat setempat! Adakah ini masih lagi belum menunjukkan ketersusunan gerakan ini?

6. Tok Janggut, seorang penganalisa

Cantiknya sewaktu pemberontakan ini berlaku, pentadbiran colonial di Kelantan sedang berdepan dengan beberapa masalah. Antaranya adalah masalah kewangan yang teruk sehingga menyebabkan gaji kakitangannya tertunggak beberapa bulan.

7. Sultan yang misteri

Walaupun dijelaskan yang Sultan Muhammad IV mengeluarkan titah supaya rakyat Kelantan menyokong British, namun itu hanya dibuat atas dasar keterpaksaan. British tidak mempercayai Sultan Kelantan, lantaran itulah British bertindak mengerahkan askar mereka untuk menangkap Tok Janggut dan pengikut-pengikutnya. Asalnya, urusan pemberontakan ini diminta diselesaikan oleh Sultan.

Sultan Muhmmad pernah mengatakan tentera Jerman mesti menang dalam peperangan dengan British. Tentera Jerman adalah sekutu Turki!

Malah, menurut Wells, ketika beliau sedang mengukur keluasan Sungai Kelantan dengan tujuan untuk membina stesyen kereta api di tebing sebelah Kota Bharu. Ketika itu, Sultan Terengganu mudik dari kuala ke Kota Bharu. Kapal Sultan Terengganu telah melanggar bot peralatan mengukur  Wells dan salah satu bot yang digunakan terbalik meskipun Wells telah berusaha supaya kapal Sultan itu mengelaknya. Sultan Terengganu tersenyum sahaja ketika kapalnya bertindak demikian. Wells juga mengatakan yang Sultan Kelantan dan Sultan Terengganu selalu bertemu dan kedua-duanya tidak menyukai British!

Nah, sudah terang lagi bersuluh akan keteraturan gerakan ini sebenarnya. Pernah dahulu aku menulis tentang Grand Design pemberontakan menentang penjajah. Maka artikel ini mengupas sedikit sebanyak mengenai Grand Design ini. Sesungguhnya gerakan menentang penjajah di Nusantara ini bukanlah gerakan yang semborono tanpa melibatkan perancangan yang teliti, cuma kita sahaja yang buta! Buta kerana sejarah kita ditulis untuk memenangkan satu pihak sahaja. Sejarah kita ditulis untuk mengagungkan pihak-pihak tertentu sahaja.

Od siebie dodam tylko że w moim przypadku skończyło się tylko na omijaniu lekcji, raz tylko zdawałem półrocze z programowania, ale drugiego już nie musiałem :) Poznałem też trochę lepiej linuksa =^;^=

W każdym razie nie ma nic do stracenia - warto spróbować mimo że jest trochę chodzenia, ale zawsze można zyskać trochę czasu (i/lub wiedzy) zamiast siedzieć i nudzić się na lekcjach :)

Can A Machine Think?

This question touches some broad concepts in Theory of Knowledge and Philosophy. For some, this question seems to be obvious and they would say ‘No. Of course, machine cannot think!’ However, there are several issues raised with that conclusion.

First of all, what is thinking? To be ‘thinking’ can be considered as a process of knowing or to come to knowledge. As humans, this process is very familiar to us as we are most likely to do this process in every second of our lives. Even at certain times some people like to say ‘I’m not thinking about anything’, the fact that they can say that means that they’re still thinking and comes to a conclusion that they’re not thinking about anything. The ways of knowing in which we are exposed to are Perception, Reason, Language, Emotion and in order to be aware of these, it requires thinking.

On the other hand, ‘machine’ should be defined at first. A machine is any mechanical device that modifies energy to perform or assist in human tasks. Nowadays, we are exposed machines very often. Machines are created by us, humans, through a thinking process. They’re invented in certain way to perform human tasks. Most people will probably think that machine is unable to think since they’re made by humans. But how do they become able to do tasks that they’re supposed to do?

Perception can be said to be used by machine to response or perform certain actions. Machines perceive secondary quality like humans do since these qualities are the ones that we’re able to sense and we as the creator of the machines will also set them to perceive these qualities. Then, by perceiving these qualities, machines will respond to them as what the creator sets them for. This process can also be seen as thinking to a certain extent and here it can be said that what they think is limited like humans but more limited than humans as we create these machines. It’s difficult to say that machine has a paradigm as paradigm can be defined as how we perceive or see the world. Although, we humans create machines, we may not able to create their paradigm and this is why, it still can be said that machine is unable to think.

Reason is strongly related to humans as this way of knowing usually encompasses other aspects in the world in which we have perceived Machines will be able to reason if they’re created that way. As long as the premises are true, the machines will be able to respond correctly. Another way of looking at it is through deductive argument which comes under reason. Deductive argument is used in one Area of Knowledge a lot, which is Mathematics. A lot of machines are made based on mathematics and some are set to be able to actually perform mathematical process but not the mathematics itself, e.g.: calculator or computer. To be able to perform such process means these machines perceive things and they could make sense out of it and therefore response or perform tasks that they’re supposed to do. Looking at this aspect, again, machine can be seen as a thinking object.

Language is another aspect that is essential for us or even anything to be able to think. Without language it’s very difficult to understand something. Machines use certain language to be able to perform a task and again this language is also created by humans for them. Some machine use mathematics as their language. However, the fact that they use language to think and therefore enable them to perform a task, it doesn’t indicated that machines actually understood and aware in the process of doing the task. They do think and understand the task but they are not aware with the mechanism of implementing such task.

The forth aspect is emotion and it can be seen as the hardest aspect to be related to machines. Emotion is an abstract matter and different emotions are influenced by different perception and even reason. Machines only perceive qualities in certain ojects that they’re interacted with and eventually respond to them. This cannot be said as emotion. If machines do have emotion, they will be able to complain or be delightful with the task that they do and it even does sound unreasonable and awkward to think that way. This idea can be seen as what separate us from machines.

Alan M. Turing is a mathematician who was also researching on an idea that is related to this topic. He agrees that machines do ‘think’ for all practical purposes that allow them to response to certain action.

They Perceive

The process of knowing what they perceive and eventually interpret them and produce response can be considered as thinking. Without this process machines would not be able to perform any task. On the other hand, the main issue here is whether they are aware or can think that they are thinking. This is unlikely to happen for machines and this is what distinguishes humans from machines. Humans are able to think that they’re thinking and this also indicates our existence.

Birimizi diğerinden ayıran “kırmızıçizgiler” vardır. Yapımız gereği diğer insanları anlayıp kavrama yeteneğimiz vardır. Ancak bu sınırlı bir anlayış ve kavramadır. Ve bu çember her geçen gün gelişir şekillenir. Ama hiçbir zaman bire bir eşleşme olmaz. Davranışlar ve hareketlerden düşüncelerden araklanmalar olur ancak örtüşme birebir gerçekleşmez. Bu insanoğlunun fıtri (yaratılış) yapısına da uygun düşmez.

Her insan yalnız kendisi değil, aynı zamanda bir benzeri daha olmayan, tamamen kendine özgü, her bakımdan önemli ve dikkate değer bir noktadır. Öyle bir nokta ki, dünyanın tüm olayları kesişir burada; birkezliğine, bir daha asla yinelenemeyecek bir kesişimdir bu. Tekrarlanma olanağı ve olasılığı sıfırdır. Bu nedenle insanlar yaşadıklarının kıymetini bilmek zorundadır. Geriye dönüşü olmayan bir yoldadır çünkü. Acıları da sevinçleri de tektir. Ve kendisine özgüdür.

Her insanda ruh bir ete, kemiğe bürünmüştür, her insanda bir canlı acı çeker, her insanda bir canlı aşka gelir sevinci yaşar. Bunun dışında bir alternatifi yoktur.
Öz amacımızı ancak kendimiz belirleriz. Ve bu yolda harcadığımız çaba da yine kendimize özgüdür. Önemli olan bu yolda yaşadıklarımız esnasında başkasının hakkına ve sınırına tecavüz etmemektir.

Herkes gider Mersin'e biz gideriz tersine deyişini Türk milleti olarak bir kez daha haklı çıkarttık. Dünya ve Amerika 'fast food'a savaş açmışken, bu yiyecek türünü temsil eden en ünlü marka olan McDonald'sı özverili katkılarımızla ihya ettik, nasıl mı?

Sadi Fansa, AA muhabirinin sorularını yanıtlarken, 2007 yılını planlarının çok üstünde sonuçlarla bitirdiklerini, hedefledikleri 15 restoran açılışını gerçekleştirdiklerini aktararak, ''Ancak satış ve müşteri artışı olarak belirlediğimiz hedeflerin oldukça üstünde bitti. Bir önceki seneye göre toplam satışlarımızda yüzde 30'a yakın bir artış, toplam kesilen fiş sayısında da yüzde 10,5'luk bir artış meydana geldi'' dedi.

Bir fişe ortalama 2,5 kişi düştüğünü ve buradan müşteri sayısı hesaplandığında, bunun da 66 milyon civarında kişinin Türkiye'de geçen yıl McDonald's restoranlarını ziyaret etmesi anlamına geldiğini dile getiren Fansa, bunun ise günde 180 bin kişinin McDonald's'tan yemek yemesi demek olduğunu söyledi.

Fansa, geçtiğimiz yıl bazı restoranlarını daha uzun saatler açık tutmaya başladıklarını, bazı restoranlarını 24 saat açık tutar hale girdiklerini, arabaya servis hizmetini daha etkin halde sunmaya başladıklarını, ''Alo servis'' hizmetini genişlettiklerini, ayrıca daha önce bulunmadıkları Samsun, Diyarbakır, Adapazarı illerinde restoran açtıklarını anlattı.

Kendileri açısından restoran sayısından ziyade mevcut restoranların bireysel performansının daha ön planda olduğunun altını çizen Fansa, ''Türkiye'de faaliyete geçtiğimiz 1986 senesinden 2001 senesine kadar yaşamış olduğumuz tecrübe de çok sayıda restoran açmanın değil, mevcut birim restoranların satışlarını artırmanın ve onların karlılıklarını artırmanın daha önemli olduğunu ortaya koydu'' diye konuştu.

Fansa, geçmişte daha agresif olarak çok sayıda restoran açarken, bunun ekonomideki veya politikadaki değişen koşullar altında istenilen performansı vermekten çok uzak olduğunu gördüklerini ifade ederek, şöyle devam etti:

''2001-2003 yılları arasında da performansı son derece düşük olan 60 tane restoran kapattık. Bugün, eskiden 135 restoranla yaptığımız satışın yüzde 50 fazlasını, 100 tane restoranla yapıyoruz. Yani son 5 senede biz, birim restoran satışımızı 3,5 misli artırdık. Onun için daha çok sayıda restoran açmanın, (o da tabii bir strateji bir politika, biz onun deneyiminden geçtik) çok doğru bir politika olmadığı kanaatindeyiz. Şu anda çok daha az sayıda restoranla onlardan çok daha fazla satış yapar duruma geldik.''

Sadi Fansa, bu yıl 13-15 civarında restoran açmayı, uzun saatler ve 24 saat hizmet konusunda daha fazla sayıda uygulama hedeflediklerini belirterek, açmayı planladıkları restoranların, bulunmadıkları ve eskiden bulunup da sonradan restoranlarını kapattıkları, Gaziantep, Denizli gibi illerde olacağını söyledi.

Fansa, ''2008 senesinde tahmin ediyorum 70 milyonu aşkın kişiye hizmet götüreceğiz. Bu da hemen hemen artık bir Türkiye nüfusunun tamamını doyurur hale geldiğimizi gösterecek'' görüşünü dile getirdi.

Sadi Fansa, McDonald's'ın Türkiye'deki performansının, içinde bulundukları Asya Pasifik, Orta Doğu ve Afrika bölgesinde, sonuç ve gelişim olarak ilk 3 içinde olduğunu bildirdi.

Fansa, bu sene yeni bir ürün ilave etmeyi düşünmediklerini ancak şu anda 7 restoranda kahvaltı denemesi bulunduğunu, projenin, McDonald's'a has yeni ürünler olduğunu ve restoranların faaliyet saatlerine göre, 24 saat açık olan restoranlarda sabah saat 04.00'dan itibaren, diğer restoranlarda saat 06.30'dan itibaren kapılarını müşterilerine açmak şeklinde olduğunu, bu test çalışması başarılı olursa, senenin ilerleyen aylarında diğer restoranlarda da uygulamaya koyacaklarını anlattı.
''SEKTÖR, HER YIL YÜZDE 10-15 BÜYÜME GÖSTERİYOR''
Sadi Fansa, Türkiye'deki fast food sektörüne ilişkin olarak da, sektörün hemen hemen yüzde 80-85'e yakın kısmının kayıtsız çalıştığını, ancak yapılan araştırmalara göre sektör büyüklüğünün 2 milyar doların üzerinde olduğunun tahmin edildiğini ve sektörün de her sene yüzde 10-15 civarında bir büyüme gösterdiğini kaydetti.

Fansa, şunları söyledi:

''(Kurumsallaşmış firma sayısı artıkça), bugün Türkiye'ye baktığınız zaman da uluslararası anlamda, uluslararası marka ve firma olarak 15-20 arasında firma faaliyet gösteriyor. Bunun dışında yine son 5-6 yılda Türkiye'de de kurumsallaşmış anlamda gelişen ve büyümekte olan firma sayısı gittikçe artmaya başlamış durumda. Onlar da franchising vererek, büyüyorlar. Bu tür firmaların sayısı artıkça hem gıda güvenliği ve standart olarak sektör daha bir üst seviyeye gelecek hem de kayıt içine alınma açısından da yine sektöre bunun olumlu katkıları olacağını düşünüyorum.''
'FAST FOOD' HAKSIZLIK ETMEYELİM!!
Sadi Fansa, fast food tarzı beslenmenin zararlı olduğu iddialarına ilişkin olarak da, ''Sunduğunuz ürünler içinde kalite, hijyen, standart itibariyle zararlı bir şey kullanmıyorsanız, bunun da zararlı olması mevzu bahis değil. Sağlıksız bir ham madde kullanırsanız, sağlıksız bir ürün alırsınız. Sağlıksız bir ham maddeden sağlıklı bir ürün elde etmek mümkün değil'' görüşünü aktardı.

Türkiye'de merdiven altı diye tabir edilen şartlar altında üretim yapan ve bu ürettikleri ürünleri satan bir çok firma bulunduğunu ifade eden Fansa, ''Şimdi onlar mı sağlıklı da fast food zararlı? Orada biraz sapla samanı birbirinden ayırmak gerekiyor. Fast food zararlı diye bir şey söylemek, bence biraz insafsızlık oluyor. Bunları sağlıksız ürünlerden yaparsanız, kalitesiz ürünlerden yaparsanız onun sağlıksız olması herhalde tartışılmaz'' diye konuştu.

Fansa, her insanın günlük alması gereken kalori miktarı olduğuna değinerek, ''Kimseye biz gelip de günde 5 tane, 5 öğün hamburger ye, haftanın 7 günü hamburger ye demiyoruz. Ama insanlara alternatif olarak sunulan bir yemek çeşitleri yelpazesi içinde en sağlıklı, en düzgün, en güvenebilecekleri ortam içerisinde yemek yeme imkanı sunuyoruz. Onun için 'fast food zararlıdır' biraz insafsızlık oluyor'' dedi.

Patates kızartmasının da patlıcan kızartması gibi bir alternatif olduğunu belirten Fansa, McDonald's'ta yenilen patates kızartmasının kendi evinde yapılmış patates kızartmasından daha az zararlı olduğunu savundu.

TRANS YAĞLAR
Sadi Fansa, trans yağ asidi (TFA) konusuna da değinerek, yağın, doymuş yağ, doymamış yağ, tekli doymamış, çoklu doymamış gibi bileşenlerden oluştuğunu, bu bileşenlerden birinin de kötü diye tabir edilen trans yağ olduğunu, bunun yanı sıra yine kötü diye tabir edilen başka bileşenler bulunduğunu, bunların dengesinin önemli olduğunu anlattı.

Bu bileşenlerden kötü olanların kötü kolesterolü yükseltiğini, iyi kolesterolü düşürdüğünü, iyi olanların da iyi kolesterolü yükseltiğini ve kötü kolesterolü düşürdüğünü ifade eden Fansa, McDonald's'ın Türkiye'de 1995'ten bu yana 13 senedir kızartma yağlarında yüzde yüz bitkisel bir yağ olan kanola yağı kullandığını hatırlattı.

Fansa, kanola yağının, insanlar için sağlıklı olduğu belirtilen zeytinyağına en yakın yağlardan biri olduğunu ifade ederek, kalp damar sağlığı açısından olumsuz etkileri olan, kötü kolesterolü yükselten iyi kolesterolü düşüren doymuş yağ oranının zeytinyağında yüzde 14, kanola yağında yüzde 12 olduğunu söyledi.

Kötü olan toplam yağ asitlerini yükseltirken, TFA'yı düşürmenin, hiç bir anlamı olmadığına dikkat çeken Fansa, ''Kötü olandan o bileşik kap içerisinden bir tanesini azaltıyorsunuz, öbürünü yükseltiyorsunuz. Ne oluyor toplamda? Daha kötü oluyor veya hiçbir şey değişmiyor'' dedi.

Fansa, gıda endüstrisinde kullanılan yağların bir kısmının kısmen ya da tamamen sertleştirilmiş olan hidrojenize edilmiş yağlar olduğunu, yağın hidrojenize edildikçe kalp ve damar hastalıkları için olan kötü etkilerinin de çoğaldığını aktararak, ''Bizim kullandığımız kanola yağı, erime derecesi 13-18 arası, yani normal bir oda sıcaklığında bile yağımız eriyor'' şeklinde konuştu.

Sadi Fansa, ''Trans yağ, 1'in altı olunca sıfır tabir ediliyor. Sıfır ama doymuş yağ oranı yüksek. Onu sıfırlamış olmak böylece hiçbir şey ifade etmiyor. Çünkü doymuş yağ da insana kalp hastalıkları yapan şeylerden bir tanesi'' dedi.

Two nights ago I was hit by a rather disturbing dream about TOK - as always, I can only remember vague pieces here and there. But it occurred in school, which was empty, and involved the other teacher, an essay graded 'D' and being castigated for my performance in the OP. I try not to put stock in the reality of any of the above scenarios, if only for the sake of my own peace of mind.

I also stumbled upon a nice collection of cheap second-hand books while out for lunch yesterday at Punggol Plaza; it occurs to me now that had I not been by myself, I might have not had to spend a single cent. As it happened, however, I waved goodbye to any hopes of retaining any savings for this quarter (NOTE: quarter, not month). Oh well. +++antilibrary
