You won't find too much dance music post 1980's on my iPod, interaction with a dance floor for me ended with the burning down of Akrams.

I have however enjoyed the odd mash-up a concept which interweaves two songs into one, it was a concept which expanded upon the act of sampling and was a great success back in 1987 for the JAMMS (The Justified Ancients Of Mu Mu).

Todays artist takes this to a new level with their latest album "Feed The Animals"

[caption id="attachment_472" align="aligncenter" width="220" caption="Girl Talk"][/caption]

Girl Talk is the stage name of musician Gregg Gillis (born October 26, 1981). Gillis, who lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has released four LPs on Illegal Art and EPs on 333 and 12 Apostles. He began making music while studying biomedical engineering at Case Western Reserve University. He specializes in mashup style remixes, in which he uses often a dozen or more unauthorized samples from different songs to create a new song; The New York Times Magazine has called his music "a lawsuit waiting to happen."[1] He has given different explanations for the origin of his stage name, once saying that it alluded to a Jim Morrison poem[2] and once saying that it alluded to an early Merzbow side project.[3]

Feed the Animals is the fourth album by Girl Talk (Gregg Gillis), released on Illegal Art in 2008. It is composed almost entirely of samples taken from other artists' songs, plus minor original instrumentation by Girl Talk.

As of June 19, record label Illegal Art is selling the album in a similar fashion to how Radiohead sold their 2007 release In Rainbows – a "pay-what-you-like" system. Gillis states that the goal behind this is to "make it easier for people to get their hands on the music, which is my number one priority."[2] Users choosing to pay $0.00 have to explain why, selecting "I may donate later"; "I can't afford to pay"; "I don't really like Girl Talk"; "I don't believe in paying for music"; "I have already purchased this album"; "I don't value music made from sampling"; "I am part of the press, radio, or music industry", or "other reasons".[3] However, those who pay $5 can access FLAC files and a one-file seamless mp3 version of the album. For $10, users can obtain a physical copy of the album, once it is released. Originally, the physical copy was subject to be released on September 23. However, Gillis has stated that there were "manufacturing issues" involving the production of the CDs, forcing the date to be pushed back to October 21.[4] [5]

Begin 1968 was John zevenentwintig. The toppermost of the poppermost, zoals hij dat graag uitdrukte.

Zoek me.”

Zij inviteert The Beatles in haar suite in het Londense May Fair Hotel.

“Niets vragen,” gebiedt John.

Achteraf doet hij het vooral af met: “I was on drugs and she was on her way out.”

"Vergadering afgelopen. Kom, we gaan eten."

"Het is in dat liedje," blikt John terug: "‘Those wedding bells are breaking up that old gang of mine.’

Onderweg moet Pete haar een snelcursus over The Beatles geven.

John verwelkomt hen kalm: "Hallo."

John is erg jaloers.

To Hide Exept Me And My Monkey’.

Juli

Op 1 juli openen John en Yoko de tentoonstelling You Are Here (To Yoko From John Lennon, With Love') in de Robert Fraser Gallery in Mayfair, Londen.

Yoko zei: 'Het is kunst.'

‘Yer Blues’ is een kreet van pijn en ‘What's The New, Mary Jane?’ pure onzin.

You and your Jap tart think you're hot shit.' We waren sprakeloos. Het was niet ondertekend. Er stond niet meer.

Toen kwam Paul binnen.

In‘Glass Onion’ zingt John: 'The walrus was Paul'. Een duidelijke verwijzing naar 'I Am The Walrus'

Even later staat Sgt.

"Bag art" heet zoiets.

The great air disaster is speculatively depicted here as an act of sabotage, and the airship's trans-Atlantic journey gives the saboteur's plot plenty of time to unfold while the story introduces a variety of characters aboard for the luxurious flight. While the anti-Nazi message is delivered loud and clear, Anne Bancroft and George C. Scott lead an illustrious cast in what amounts to a pre-World War II episode of The Love Blimp, only there's not much romance and precious little suspense. It's all rather flatly intriguing, but aviation buffs will certainly appreciate the meticulous attention to period detail, and the film won special achievement Oscars for its impressive sound and visual effects. Worth a look, if you're a student of this particular chapter of history, and the movie earns some credit for having at least the kernel of a good idea. --Jeff Shannon

Tribute bands are all the rage, you just need to look at the "Live Ads" pages in the music mags to see the numerous such bands that are on the road.

Almost every major act of the 60's, 70's and into the 80's have a tribute band earning a wage off their respective name and catalogue.

The market is hot for such acts due in part to the high ticket arena prices charged by the big acts and the gaps between tours, however, it must be recognised that the top tribute bands are in the own way all excellent musicians and more often than not will put on a quality show.

The Australian Pink Floyd are now the only real option for Floydites to see some real action and whilst my own favourite band The Who do tour and do despite being down to only two original members still put on a good show if you want to be transported back to the late 60's or early 70's then it's worth catching "Who's Who"

BIG TRUCK

BIG TRUCK are a young West London-based rock band. They have been established for just over a year now, having played almost 50 shows in and around the London area. In this time BIG TRUCK have not only recorded their debut album ‘One Long Saturday Night’ but also played a sold-out show at Camden’s Purple Turtle to celebrate its first press. Since then BIG TRUCK have been well received on many independant radio stations in the UK including Total Rock, Inferno and Brit FM to name a few. This was followed by a recent brief tour of Canada and airplay on UPV Radio 102.5 FM in Spain, proving that BIG TRUCK have both UK and international appeal.

BIG TRUCK are a four-piece line up with soaring guitars, driving bass, solid drums and choruses that have you singing along before you even know the words. They hail their influences from a variety of contemporary and classic bands - Foo Fighters, The Who, Muse and Jimi Hendrix to name but a few. The debut album ‘One Long Saturday Night’ is available for sale, along with some very stylish merchandise, through their website as well as at live shows. When asked for a quote about the band, producer and Nick Olivieri’s Mondo Generator guitarist Simon ‘Spud’ Beggs simply stated "BIG TRUCK rock!" No words have ever been more truly spoken. BIG TRUCK are now back in London promoting their album.

Their debut album OUT NOW! (www.bigtruckmusic.co.uk)

The band plays a dynamic mixture of soaring vocals, foot stomping rhythms and subtle textures that range from the tiny sublime to the beautifully unflinching. They have an album 'Sometimes We Forget', self-recorded and self-funded, which you

The election is four weeks away my friends. I truly hope that all of you reading have registered to

The election is four weeks away my friends. I truly hope that all of you reading have registered to vote and plan to vote. I will not say that I do not care who you vote for because I have my own thoughts on the matter. Nonetheless, voting is our sacred franchise. Please make sure you hit the polls. As both tickets have exclaimed, this is the most important election in the last generation or even more.

So, back by popular demand (this is just blatant propaganda-no one is demanding this, but I digress) is the conclusion to Top 10 Songs (PART II) With a Great Intro That is Essential to the Overall Song-Because of GNR’s Sweet Child O’ Mine (This is the catalyst song)

6) In Bloom Nirvana Like many of its colleagues on the list, this song comes at you from many angles. The first is the strong, edgy intro that feeds into a great song. Utilizing a hypnotizing bass line and stronger than you realize drumming, this song is fantastic. Also, the video, shot with real-1960s cameras, is irreverent and also respectful to the b/w television time frame.

7) Baba O'Riley The Who This song is one of my all time favorite songs, period. This song's intro is nothing short of magnificent. You have a great bass line from John Entwistle, legendary riffs from Pete Townshend (not too mention his pioneering use of the synth in the early-70s), Keith Moon's straight-forward drumming, and then of course the Roger Dawltry's range and angst. The video I have attached capture's the entire band in their rock glory. Pete does not come in with the guitar until the 1:50 mark. Just watch his aura of rock swagger, it is awesome. "Teenage wasteland/It's only teenage wasteland/they're all WASTED...riff riff riff" Great song, 'nuff said.

#8 Guerilla Radio Rage Against the Machine This band founded on political radicalism and QUESTIONING things that you should not question is, in my opinion underrated for their contributions to rock. My own agenda aside, the intro to this song is powerful and plays to the strengths of the band. These strengths are anger, diverse music backgrounds, and political unrest. The video with the first link is one that was on MTV. Rage was on Dave Letterman back in the day, outside on 53rd St and here is the vid. I love that Dave had them on and that the crowd was able to go for it. Side note from me...the half-sleeve tats of bassist, Tim Commerford are amazing.

9) My Name is Jonas Weezer I will admit to start that the vid quality is not that great, but I forgot that Rivers Cuomo used to rock the bowl cut. Nevertheless, this song is one of the best on the 'Blue' album. I remember loving (still do) every track on that record. This song just rocks and has some strong riffs.

10) Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing Chris Issak There are not many people cooler than Chris Issak. This dude just breathes cool. The suits, swagger, not going to lie, I have a bit of a mancrush on him. With that said, this song is so good. In fact, it has been good even before Stanley Kubrick used it in that picture with the Scientologist and Nicole Kidman. You be wondering, "Lucas, why no video here?" That is a great question. If you have seen other Chris Issak videos such as the one for Wicked Games you would know that they tend to be a bit scandalous. Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing falls into that category and I could not find a live version that highlighted the intro.

So, this completes the first top 10 list. What have we learned? Well, knowing is half the battle. Those flipping GI Joes were right. Also, I learned something while compiling this list. Do not walk with your iPod in your back left pocket and subsequently try to go to the next song. Why? Because it looks like your playing with your butt, especially if the random function is not playing a song you want-prompting multiple adjustments or you have to adjust the volume. I got some funny looks walking yesterday.

Thanks for reading.

It was written in the late 1950s by Eddie Cochran and his manager Jerry Capehart. Originally a single B-side, it peaked at #8 Billboard Hot 100 on September 29, 1958 and #18 UK Singles Chart. The handclapping is performed by Sharon Sheeley, and the deep vocals at the end of each verse are done by Cochran.

The Who's version appears on the 1970 album Live at Leeds. Their version is done in a more aggressive (and louder) style than the original. It is played in the key of A major and on the 3rd verse modulates up to B major.

This version features John Entwistle singing the vocal parts of the boss, the father, and the congressman in his trademark baritone growl, in addition to playing the bass guitar. The track features the original four-man Who lineup of Roger Daltrey, John Entwistle, Keith Moon, and Pete Townshend.

Another live version from The Who is featured in the concert and documentary film "Woodstock".

"Summertime Blues" was a staple of Who concerts between 1967 and 1976 with intermittent appearances thereafter.

I was one of the lucky ones, apparently, who got mine early and undamaged. There have been some quality control issues surrounding this set that I feel confident Rhino will address in a timely and professional manner. They're just starting to figure out the level of "commitment" Deadheads have to this music and the ravenous collection of such. And their previous releases since acquiring the Grateful Dead's vault of music have been tremendous. The WINTERLAND '73 BOX SET is an extraordinary collection, beautifully packaged and presented. A real treat for Dead fans. As was LIVE AT THE COW PALACE from 1976. Lovingly mixed and one of the best New Year's shows the Dead ever played (they were not always on the ball those nights). I have heard complaints about the recycled cardboard packaging on the ROAD TRIPS sets, but have not acquired those as I'm usually a "full show" snob and those sets are compilations.

However, ROCKING THE CRADLE does not offer up all the music played at the Dead's historic 1978 trip to the Gizah Sound and Light Theatre in Cairo, Egypt, but what's there is certainly among the highlights and, quite possibly, all we'll ever get. The set includes 2 CDs of music, 1 "bonus" CD for those who ordered before September 30th, and 1 DVD of actual footage of the band playing, as well as behind the scenes super 8 home movies documenting the Dead "family" adventures through the cradle of civilization.

Let's start with the CDs. The sound is mixed with perfection. I've heard these shows before, both in audience and soundboard, and I've never heard them sound this crisp. Every instrument is crystal clear and perfectly balanced. The same goes for the bonus disc. I'm not sure why this wasn't just included as part of the package as it really is an essential part of the collection. Apparently, the sound recording for the first of the three nights played was damaged and that is why September 14th is not represented here at all. It's a shame, but some things are unavoidable.

Now the DVD. I want to thank the folks who put this together for allowing me to access this historic event in a way not possible before. I had seen some of the video footage shot by Ken Kesey and his Merry Pranksters, but the sound quality on that was questionable at best and, though fascinating, never quite engaging. While the video here is shaky and unprofessional at times--even to the point of actually losing site of the band entirely and drifting off into darkness--at least there are several cameras running simultaneously and the sound is massive, especially the DTS 5.1 mix. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any information as to exactly what footage was available to the producers of this set and how the editing choices were made. For example, most of the songs "fade out" instead of continuing the jams into transitions. Most disappointing is the fade out during the final jam in FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN, thus losing one of the evenings best moments and a great transition into IKO IKO, a song which is, thankfully, included here. It is altogether possible that the footage available for that portion of the show was simply unusable and that is why this decision was made. However, I would love to know about that. I recognize that it's perhaps not customary for fans to request so much knowledge about the making of a "product", but Deadheads have a rather "special" relationship to all things Dead, and many of us are completists and simply want as much as is available. Strange, I know, but there's nothing like sitting down and immersing oneself in an uninterrupted show, especially when captured on DVD. If the experience is available to be had, many of us would love to have it. I would also question why they chose to jumble many of the songs out of the order in which they were performed. The progression of songs, the unfolding of the setlist, is often as much a part of the show as the music itself. For those who don't know, the Dead never played the same show twice. And even if they HAD, they wouldn't have played it the same way. So what they play and in what order has been of fascination to fans since the Dead first started performing. It is truly part of the energy, uniqueness, and experience of each and every show.

Now for the Bonus Material. "The Vacation Tapes", a rare and intimate portrait of the band and their close "family" of friends and lovers starting from their arrival in Cairo, through the shows themselves, culminating in a three day boat trip down the Nile. Here we are privy to moments rarely seen as we get to watch the Dead off-stage and in a very "normal" light. It is refreshing and fun and truly made me wish I had been a part of the whole adventure as it unfolded.

The music itself. Part of the reputation of these shows is that the band didn't play very well. And they were the first to say so. Since the Dead were largely an improvisational band, the music and its energy was different from one night to the next. Some nights they were on, some nights they were off. And both ends of the spectrum could be rather dramatic! What's fascinating here is that there was some truly inspired and tight playing to be heard from the Dead's various tours throughout 1978. But what happens in Egypt these 3 nights is unlike anything the Dead had played before or since. And there are certainly a combination of factors that added to that. One is the possible pressure of being the first western band permitted to play Egypt. Another is the PA system which was loaned to the Dead by The Who (England is much closer). The setting itself: a beautiful outdoor theatre nestled beneath the Sphinx and the Great Pyramids of Gizah. Add to the third night a lunar eclipse and, well, the energy MUST have been interesting to say the least. Then there's the audience: hordes of Deadheads traveled from far and wide to be here and they danced side by side with Egyptians, many of whom had never heard this music before and slowly found the groove as the nights progressed.

Then there are stories of Jerry's addiction and the fact that he had to take a hiatus from some "medicines" his body may have been quite used to at this point. But whatever the reasons, the Dead had moments of fascinating beauty up there, as well as moments when the rhythm just seemed to slip out from under them as they all scrambled to find their way back. Perhaps it had to do with drummer Bill Kreutzman having one hand in a cast. Or maybe not, I don't know. But it's interesting to watch Jerry trying to get everybody rhythmically in sync during LOOKS LIKE RAIN which, oddly enough, turns out to be a terrific rendition. Same goes for GOOD LOVIN', which really hits a wall and never quite recovers. But all this gives the evening an odd yet exciting tension that everything could collapse at any given moment. And when it doesn't, the music SOARS or, at worst, finds a shaky life that is quite thrilling. It is music and energy unique to this set of shows and this venue. It's a version of the Dead unlike any other. And while I wouldn't recommend it as an introduction to the band's live performances, I think it's a must for anyone already familiar and looking for new variations and new experiences from the Dead's treasure trove of musical journeys. Garcia's voice is in top form and he seems to be having a blast up there. It's odd that the Dead chose not to play any cuts from their acclaimed BLUES FOR ALLAH album (the best of the studio offerings, in my opinion) as it seemed an obvious choice and a rare opportunity. However, I'm sure they had their reasons and just getting to watch the Dead jam with percussionist Hamza El Din and the Nubian Youth Choir up on that stage, in that surreal and magical setting, is worth the price of admission.

ROCKING THE CRADLE is incomplete, imperfect, and worth every penny. It does what most great things do; it leaves you wanting more. And if there is more out there, I hope it will find its way to release as well. I, for one, will look forward to buying it.

Here's a taste of the Grateful Dead playing a rockin' version of DEAL from the third night, September 16, 1978:
