Kawan : ooooo ...

lalu mereka pon 'memasuki' rumah orang kaya dah memenuhi hasrat mereka

KOMEN : mana boleh buat jahat untuk buat baik ... kalau dalam matematik pon (-)(+)=(-)

Kes 2

petikan caca merba daripada sebuah drama tv ...

SiPolan : byeee aku nka pergi jumpa pakwe aku ... hari ni dia ajak buka puasa jadi aku kena la pakai cantik cantik .... cantik tak aku pakai tudung ?

Ok, so wow, back to blogging for the first time in a long time! And what a perfect week to start! This past week was homecoming week at UIS and as usual, it was a blast! The pep rally kicked things off on Monday, followed by a really cool group called the Neofutureists on Tuesday. Wednesday there was a comedian, and Thursday was the annual Faculty/Staff/Alumni vs. students basketball game. This marked the first year ever that the FAST team defeated the students in this game. My personal record moves to 5-1 (2 coaching wins, 3 playing wins, and one alumni/staff loss in 2007). Friday was of course the dance, Charles Olivier and Stephanie Gorsuch were named Homecoming King and Queen and then ending the week on Saturday was the parade, BBQ, soccer game, and fireworks! Here are the photos for your enjoyment!

My first day at school wasn't too bad. At 11am we all gathered in an auditorium and what followed was 5 hours of infos with a half an hour break. No classes yet. The principle and some of the staff welcomed us and then every student introduced himself. There are actually a few people who don't speak "Schwäbisch" (weird dialect spoken here in the south that differes a lot from the standard or high german that I speak).

Classes will start at 8.15am for me and tomorrow the first one is going to be journalism.

Here a few facts about my school:
- name: Stuttgart Media University
- only 3000 students
- 106 proffessors, 170 members of staff, 120 assistant lecturers
- 4600 applicants for 500 open spots
- over 60 partner universities world wide

I happened to attend the last few minutes (because I was late T___T) of Stanza's talk today in the Goldsmiths' Digital Studios. The headquarter in other words. :p

There's a flu going around the halls. Not good, I hate getting sick. Some type of Chinese herbal tea is supposed to be good for your ovaries, immune system, and against flu. I tried some today from Lily (my Taiwanese housemate), and it tastes like an organic cereal, but smells like ginger cookies. Hope it works its magic. I could use a little PMS aid these days. It's doing me so much damage when combined with homesickness.

I'm about to cook (or try to cook) myself some mushroom pasta. Busy day, busy day! I shopped today for groceries like I've never done before. I feel independant. Free. Responsible. The kind of feelings you get when you're cleaning your own toilet seat. It's silly I know, but I am alive more than ever.

Doesn't mean I'm satisfied. I have lots of acquaintances but no real friends. I'm shy when it comes to opening up to people. But all the same, I will survive. *remembers a certain episode from Medium* >___<

Highlight of the day? Well. Waking up to her voice on the phone. :)

I suck when it comes to cooking, and I admit it! I have had a few attempts throughout my 23 years to

I suck when it comes to cooking, and I admit it! I have had a few attempts throughout my 23 years to come up with a decent dish, in most cases I failed. I have to stress the fact that is it not due to my lack of talent or patience, but to my lack of concern and knowledge. I will be able to cook, no doubt, if I put my head into it, and these days (surprise surprise!) I am trying!

As a Kuwaiti/Palestinian living in the UK, the variety of canned food and ready-made meals is something that struck me as awesome at first. I told myself it will be simple to prepare a meal because of this variety, only to realize after a week of quick-made rice and canned fish that I am fed-up and ready for a healthier alternative. I admit that I miss my best friend's mom's salads, and my mom's lamb liver and hommos. Whatever I would have run away from to go to gourmet burger places is now what I long for. And that is me growing up, perhaps.

The good thing is there are all sorts of cooking activities going on in the kitchens here in the student halls. I am exposed to cooking skills from Taiwan, Korea, Cyprus, Ireland, Germany, Mexico, England, Serbia, and Philippines. What a mix! (And there are many more!)

So basically, when I hold the frying pan, I keep asking questions. Silly questions. As silly as "do I put the vegetables first or the oil". And I am okay with it because I know that I will eventually know how to cook myself a good meal. (Hopefully!)

Mass production is a bummer no matter which angle you look at it from. I feel overwhelmed by the amount of preservatives I am consuming. No wonder people become organic-food-obsessed in a culture full of chemically and genetically treated products.

As I begin my second year here at SJND, I am getting a better sense of those qualities which define our school. Certainly, our small size (current enrollment is 417 students in grades 9-12) is a defining characteristic of SJND. This smaller size allows for a sense of community and family that nurtures our students in significant ways. In fact, our Spring 2008 alumni Update magazine was devoted to this theme of community. I invite you to read it to find out more stories of how we live community at SJND.

Today, I want to write about another defining characteristic of our school that we have not talked about much and that is our school's diversity.

As a school located in the Bay Area, we are proud of the fact that the student population of our school mirrors that of our diverse Bay Area community. In fact, SJND does not have any one racial group larger than 25% of our school, an astonishing achievement for any Catholic high school. The diversity of our school encompasses not only racial diversity, but also socioeconomic, cultural, educational and other markers of diversity that are less readily seen. We pride ourselves on the fact that we have diversity that works.

At many schools, even schools that are tremendously diverse, it is not uncommon to see students quickly separate and balkanize by race. At many high schools, all one needs to do is step into the student cafeteria at lunch to see how students separate into tables quite neatly by skin color. Perhaps it’s only human to want to be with those who are like us, but often times, diverse schools have diversity in name only.

At SJND, seeing this division is rare. Our school is too small for students to easily separate; it’s hard to hide at SJND. On the other hand, our school is not so big that students feel that they have to retreat to what they know in order to feel comfortable or supported. It is that first quality I wrote about - community - that helps our school's diversity to work. We have wonderful students, students committed to learning and who have the support of their parents. When you put together that mix of community and diversity, the end result is place that works to form and transform our students to be people who, in the words of our school's Vision Statement, "will be prepared to exercise leadership roles in their adult lives and foster democratic principles and Christian values of social justice in a diverse and technologically changing world."

Western Courier

Every morning, as students drag their feet to their morning class, they reach for the one thing that gives them insight on the latest national or local news, topics, and opinions. No it is not the Tribune, it is the Western Courier.

The student-run newspaper has been “serving the students of Western Illinois University since 1905” as stated on its webpage. Since then, the paper has won 16 awards from the Illinois College Press Association and in May 1999 was inducted into the Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame.

Leading the Courier this year as Editor-in-Chief is Alisha Cowen, a senior journalism major. Not only does she run a tight ship, her open mind and laid back attitude allows her and her team to work together smoothly to provide the best news coverage. “She knows how to run a newspaper. She is really laid back, but if you’re not doing your work she will get on you; she helps us get the job done,” said Dave Hodge, a managing editor for the paper. Heading the rest of the sections of the paper are: News Editor, Ed Komenda; Opinions Editor, Sarah Zeeck; Sports Editor, Ken Woods; and Edge Editor, Brent Busby.

Each section embracing the latest topics in its genre, tend to bring national news to a local level and cover subjects that affect the students. “Because of the election year we’re trying to cover more national news, but then we try to make it local to show how it’s affecting the Macomb and Western community,” Hodge said. Headlines in the latest issue that grabbed my attention were “McCain in need of a bailout” in the news section and “Chicago baseball which is better?” in the opinions section. Trying to fill the demands of their audience, the Courier staff runs stories that interest students, such as voting or MLB playoffs.

Picking up the paper at the Union, Library, Alumni House or any other of its 80 locations, the Western Courier is a trusted medium for students looking for the latest news, topics, and trends.

its been awhile, i wonder if anyone still comes here.

the lack of updates haven't been because i've been busy, rather it's due to laziness and procrastination. yes, more than two months of precisely that. it seems like it's worse back here than it was london. then again, it could simply be because the days here are longer (at least at this time of the year), and really i'm just as lazy as i've ever been.

really all i want to do is stay home with a mountain of books (especially those by nora roberts writing as j.d. roberts) and just slowly but surely make my way through them. why is it that my attention span for such things lasts way longer than that for my law readings? just the other day, i spent just about 5 to 6 hours straight reading a j.d. roberts book from cover to cover. did the same thing again the day after. yet i can barely spend half an hour reading a law textbook without taking a break. story of my life really. this lack of attention span actually extends to other areas in my life too.. not just studies. it really kind of sucks.

oh well, getting a new desk in my room today, so no more excuses of having no where with no distractions to study. then again the bed is a pretty good distraction. hmmm.
