Well, it can be a lot of things. For instance, if your into the whole housing thing, it could mean that the current mortgage rates are going DOWN (See stats in the link)

If your more into sports, it could mean something like this. (Yeah, that guy went DOWN alright!)

This DVD was out in 2004, But i was late, I just found that out in youtube a week ago. Shaun White is a gold olympic medalist snowboarder, and i can say he's a total inspiration for youth today. This DVD really shows good production value!!Great shots, great soundtracks, great editing.

LOVIN' IT!!!

On Sunday morning we visited a few shops in Cooma and managed to score a decent deal on a new board for Phil as well as a snowboard bag for both of us. After a short drive, we arrived in Koziusko National Park.  The weather was dreary. Rainy. Windy. 5 degrees. We paid our entry fee and proceeded to Thredbo village. If we thought the parking spots in Cooma were bad, we didn't know what to make of Thredbo. Phil did an amazing job weaving our monster truck through the narrow roadways. We could see the hill looking very patchy as the snow started to melt with the heavy rain (100mm in 48 hours) and thunder.  As it turned out, the torrential rain flooded the room we were supposed to be in so we were upgraded to an apartment. Sweet.

Despite the rain, we suited up and headed to the hill to try get a couple runs in. Unfortunately the lifts had already stopped for the afternoon so we walked partway up the hill and rode down. The snow was crusty and slushy but it was better than nothing. Fortunately Thredbo had a bumper year for snow (300cm) so the rain didn't have much of an effect.

Monday morning dawned clear with a light smattering of snow. We were up early and headed to the hill first thing. We had a great day of riding although it took some time to adjust to the transitional snow conditions from the top to the bottom of the hill. At the bottom of the lifts it was warm and slushy with bare spots while the winds were gusting and snow was flying at the top. Riding the chairlift one could experience all four seasons in a matter of minutes as rain turned to sleet and finally to snow.  I took a number of snowboarding lessons during the week which were excellent and allowed me to finally develop some skills. We didn't receive much snow during the week, but the weather held out and allowed us to enjoy four full days of riding.

Our evenings were pretty quiet as Thredbo Village didn't have much of a nightlife. Food was incredibly expensive and we tried out a number of restaurants, including a German place where a brushtail possum made an appearance while we dined.

The amount of Canadiana around the village was staggering. From ski-doos at the hill to Corner Gas on the television to Kokanee at the pubs and BC travel propaganda everywhere, we almost felt at home.

The landscape was quite spectacular with swollen rivers running through the village and snowgums dotting the hill.  In summer hiking and mountain biking is popular in the park and we hope to go back soon.

On Friday, Phil got a quick freestyle lesson in while I packed up and checked out of the hotel. We left the village at noon and headed to Perisher Valley to see one of the other resorts in the area. After having lunch at the valley we continued on our way to Jindabyne where we checked out the man-made lake that was part of the massive Snowy Mounains hydro scheme and laughed at the requirement for tire chains for all non-four wheel drive vehicles while in the park.

We spent the night in Jindy and then headed to Canberra early on Saturday morning for more shopping and frustration with parking a big vehicle in small parking spaces. We were back in Forbes by early evening after only one small encounter with kangaroos on the dark roads.

And now, for a change of pace, I'm off to Cairns for a week of training in the sun and heat of tropical northern Queensland.

Man I miss the snows!

One of the recent trends in the Indian immigrant community is calling it quits with America. Why? The answer I get from our circle of friends has been "we are doing it for the kids." In fact, both my husband and I have also given this serious thought. We would love to give our son the experience of growing up in India for a while. But what does that really mean?

Most of the time the husband works for a large software company and sometimes the wife does too. With the nature of outsourcing changing, these Indian software engineers agree to work in India at a salary level that is far lesser than what they were getting in the U.S. However, the salary they do receive is far greater than the cost of living standards in the particular Indian city. Therefore, they can choose to live like kings and queens. One can buy an expensive home, have servants, a driver for your cars, cooks, someone that does your laundry, tends to your garden, and picks up your groceries. The truth is most Indians have most of these services provided even if they are not uber-rich. It is a pretty sweet deal.

To be honest, I don't get it and I am conflicted. I want my son to grow up in India for different reasons. I want him to know the land of his mother and father and those of his ancestors. I want him to smell the sweetness of gulab jamun and jalebi from the corner bakery when he runs home from school. I want him to have the experience of having kids to play with all the time at the playgrounds and not worry about play dates. I would love for him to have family close by and experience familial intimacy. And maybe this is not politically correct to say but I want my son to know what it feels like to be in a sea of brown.

If we leave the U.S, we also lose a lot. I love that my son has the possibility of meeting people from all over the world in the U.S. The library system, the accessibility and richness of museums in this country are true portals for learning and growth. My husband and I want him to have the opportunity to kayak, ski, snowboard, camp, hike and snorkel. These are of course possible in India but rare. As much as we want him to grow up around family, we can also have our cherished privacy here. We want him to know the value of doing things like laundry, dishes, vacuuming and cooking for himself. And we also want him to know what it feels like to be the minority. There are lessons to be learned in all of these experiences.

All of us as parents want to give our kids the best. When we do a lot of things, we are indeed doing some of it for the kids. Sometimes I just have to wonder at what costs to their hearts? What really matters? Does place matter?

Sehen Sie live wie das Glas geformt und bearbeitet wird und testen Sie sich selbst beim Glasblasen (in Bodenmais).

Ein Tagesausflug nach Passau (90 km, 1 Autostunde) bietet sich dank der geringen Entfernung bestens an. Tschechien mit seinen günstigen Einkaufsmöglichkeiten ist nur ca. 30 km entfernt (Kinderausweis erforderlich).

Da so kurzfristig keine bezahlbare Unterkunft in Saas Fee gefunden wurde, entschieden wir uns für einen Zeltplatz in Saas Grund.
Insgesammt gibt es 4 Zeltplätze (Link) in und um Saas Grund. In Saas Fee ist es nur möglich mit einem Caravan zu Campieren (Link).

Da wir nicht in Besitz eines Caravans sind, entschieden wir uns für den in Saas Grund zentral gelegenen Camping "Bergheimat".
Dieser ist sehr zu empfehlen. Direkt neben der Bushaltestelle "Saas Grund Trift" und dem dazugehörigen Hotel befindet er sich.
Platz hatte es (Ende August) genug und zwei Übernachtungen im Zelt ohne Auto kosteten pro Person gerade mal 19.- SFR. Mit inbegriffen ist ein Gemeinsamer Waschraum (Waschmaschine, Abwaschbecken, Toiletten, Duschen, Steckdosen) und das Hallenbad des Hotels nebenan. Obwohl das Bassin ziemlich klein ist, kann man sich doch nach einem Tag auf dem Gletscher tip top darin erholen.

Da wir mit dem Gleis7 anreisten, kamen wir erst an als es schon dunkel war. Es kümmerte sich jedoch sofort einer um uns und erklärte, wo wir unser Zelt aufbauen konnten.
Am nächsten Morgen merkten wir, dass das Campieren zwar billig, jedoch nicht allzu bequem ist. In der Nacht wurde es ziemlich kalt und die Mätteli könnten auch bequemer sein.
Nichts desto trotz erwischten wir den Bus um 7:11 und standen um 7:30 vor der Talstation der Gondeln.
Mit vielen Skirennfahrer ging es auf den Gletscher. Wie beim letzten Mal war der Park super geshaped, mit dem Unterschied, dass man nun bis um 14:00 statt nur bis um 13:00 fahren konnte.

Am zweiten Tag verlief alles ähnlich, jedoch nahmen wir den späteren Bus um 7:41. Bei perfektem Wetter konnten wir nochmals Gas geben.

Leider ist es so, dass von Visp aus der direkte Zug nach Spiez um 3vor7 Abends fährt. Also nichts fürs Gleis7 ist. Um Geld zu sparen nahmen wir die späte Ankunft Zuhause in kauf und warteten auf den 3vor8 Zug.

Fazit des Campierens in Saas Grund gegenüber einem Hotel/Ferienwohnung in Saas Fee:

+ Sehr viel billiger
+ Dennoch schnell
+ Hallenbad imbegriffen

- Kalt und unbequem (je nach Ausrüstung)

Fazit der Anreise per Zug gegenüber mit dem Auto:

+ Billiger (falls Gleis7 oder GA vorhanden)
+ Niemand muss fahren
+ Man muss für keinen Parkplatz (in Saas Fee ziemlich teuer) bezahlen
+ Keine grosse Zeitdifferenz mit dem neuen Lötschberg-Bahntunnel 

- Einwenig mühsam mit dem Gepäck (Boardbag wäre von Vorteil)
- Weniger Flexibel

We went to the resort Valle Nevado.  I heard some Portuguese, German, Australian English, Britannic English, maybe Swedish, and a bunch of American English on top of a lot of Spanish.  The amazing thing about the mountains was the absolute openness.  There were no trees whatsoever.  Just lots of pure white snow.  At one point the sky and the snow were about the same color making it easy to confuse the two.  From one of the lifts there was an amazing view of Santiago below in the Valle Central.  It was my third time to snowboard and my first time to come home without an injury; I think I'm improving.

Within 48 hours I was out on the surf for my third surf lesson on the poorly named Pacific Ocean.  The waves were great, consistently big, but I still suck.  I am, however, gradually improving.  I am now able to stand on the board, just not for very long.  It will come.

So after a very memorable weekend, I'm back to classes and the pursuit of Spanish.

die schule hat wieder begonnen. bereits die dritte woche. alles wie immer.

mir gehts gut, ich hätte gerne mehr freizeit, ich möchte knipsen, filmen und snowboarden. ich möchte zeit mit meinen liebsten verbringen und ich möchte reisen.

mehr als ich kriege liegt leider beim besten willen nicht drin, so bin ich glücklich mit dem, was ich habe. und alleine das ist nicht wenig.

danke noch einmal an alle leute (besondere besonders. (es gibt da so um die 6 personen, die besonders wichtig waren)), die mir in der schweren zeit geholfen haben und zu mir hielten, auch wenn es mir nicht gut ging.

Pránáyáma: expansión de la bioenergía a través de respiratorios.

A través de esta técnica se consigue un gran incremento de la vitalidad, reducción del cansancio y administración del stress.

El aumento de la capacidad pulmonar permite una mejor oxigenación, no sólo muscular sino de todo el organismo, y en consecuencia una mayor resistencia.

Existe una clara relación entre la respiración y el estado emocional. Hay ejercicios específicos de pránáyáma que contribuyen al dominio de las emociones y de la actividad mental.

Ante una situación de alto stress o generadora de miedo, el corazón se acelera, la respiración se agita y la adrenalina irrumpe en el torrente sanguíneo provocando palpitaciones y sudoración. Es en esos momentos cuando el atleta o el deportista utilizan pránáyáma para recobrar rápidamente su ritmo normal.

Esto puede ser de gran ayuda en momentos previos a una competencia deportiva o ante situaciones de riesgo que pueden darse al escalar, al estar a gran altura o al surfear una gran ola.

La experiencia de dos alpinistas brasileños.

Irivan Burda y Marcelo Bonga, alpinistas brasileños que en el 2002 hicieron cumbre en el Lhotse -la cuarta mayor montaña del mundo, en los Himalayas-, son practicantes de SwáSthya Yôga.

Durante ocho meses estos alpinistas realizaron un entrenamiento destinado a ampliar su capacidad respiratoria. Al comienzo tenían 45% de capacidad de absorción de oxígeno, la media de una persona común. Después de las prácticas, esa capacidad aumentó a 65%, lo que los clasificó para la aventura en el Everest.

En un artículo de la revista Yôga Review, Burda declara que, cuando comenzó a practicar Yôga Antiguo, tenía una pretensión poco ambiciosa: lograr mayor flexibilidad.

Después notó que la influencia de la práctica en la preparación psicológica y en la respiración sería decisiva. "En la subida es preciso respirar mucho y bien", afirma.

Bonga dice que "el Yôga hace que te conozcas mejor", lo cual permite poner el foco en los objetivos y en los caminos a recorrer. Este autoconocimiento del que habla Bonga es justamente la meta del Yôga. Su nombre en sánscrito es samádhi (estado de hiperconciencia o megalucidez).
