I took a lot of liberty with history when writing it and I come back today to set the record straight.

In my original article, I stated "Even after screwing up Columbus had a job for life." This is not an accurate statement. Columbus was set for life monetarily, but his job was yanked out from under him in 1500. Columbus was put on trial for his brutal treatment of the natives in Hispaniola. He did some time, paid a fine and retired to Spain a wealthy man.

The gold he had wasn't enough though. Columbus sued for 10% of the Spanish income from the Americas. He lost. After his death, his family sued again and lost again. This proves my supposition that even screwed up slackers can still be cruel, greedy bastards. Any way, slack off and enjoy the best bogus holiday of the year. In light of the recent banking and mortgage disasters, what better way to celebrate than commemorating a moron who died thinking he sailed to Asia.

Of course, they did this several months in advance, seeing as how they were going the long way around from Texas to California, and across the nation to New York. They may have even missed the celebration, I don't know. I was in the hospital recovering from smoke inhalation due to close proximity with "Bob's" pipe. How he can smoke that stuff and smile is beyond me, but then, he is the Sultan of Slack...

I did get a postcard from Ivan, it had some weird symbols all over it, and some gibberish about how he was right after all, Aliens DID come during the first X-day, but that they successfully mass-hypnotized the world's population so that they could play havoc with the world's monetary systems without interference. He said that the true believers would recognize each other by this symbol:

Plug and Play of the week goes to Cracker replacing his Colts D with the 15 points-producing Falcons.  This move offsets the almost catastrophic decision to bench LT this week.  The win finally helps Cracker to 40 wins lifetime.  The race to 50 is on.  Bearded Clams, winning 3 straight, has blown through 40 and eyeballs 50 wins while GS has stalled at 45.

The Scared Cats are the best 1-2 club averaging almost 96 pts./game and, in fact, leads all teams in scoring.

Historically, three teams have now won 40 games: GROUND SWELL, Bearded Clams and JaxCracker.  Four teams have scored 6000 points: the 3 previously mentioned plus slackmaster.

I don't get a lot of information to enlighten my decisions because the users fill in information. When prompted, people are terrible at writing about themselves. Much of what I do is guess-work. After considering a few hundred profiles, I start to notice patterns. Just like real life, I make assumptions and form habits based on those assumptions. I say to myself, "This guy has a white pirate shirt, tan leather vest, and a braided pony-tail: he must be at or go to Renaissance Festivals." And therefore he must also go to SCA which is full of polygamists and I so assume that he also fucks a harem of Ren-wenches. After I see one photograph of a guy in medieval garb then everyone down the line with a ponytail or blousey shirt is womanizing and deviant. He is a nerd so he has an unconventional sex life (or would like to) and should be categorized with others of his ilk.

It makes me think about the stereotypes we keep with us. The expectations that carry us through the day. Constantly categorizing other human beings based on a thousand different qualifications. All day long we do it unconsciously; and, rarely, deliberately. To purposefully judge someone else is frowned upon, right?

From a head-shot I can glean whether someone is date-able and by whom simply by asking myself, 'does he have D&D action figures at home?' or 'how many tattoos does she have that she's not telling us about?' or 'did she actually photograph herself in a bonnet?!'. I can infer as much as I like, in fact, I'm supposed to. But the conclusions I make aren't the same that just anyone would make. My basic set is not what I would refer to as typical for everyone. In fact, I'm supposed to consider what IS normal and how close to it do these users fall, and then base my classification on that.

Pick a beach, draw a line somewhere in the sand, then dance around same.

So normally I update the blog when I see a movie, and for not much else. I may try and change this in future. For now though, I've seen three films lately and not blogged my thoughts on any of them. So here are some mini-reviews to make up for it.

First cab off the rank was X-Files: I Want To Believe. And I did. Want to believe, that is. But unfortunately I couldn't. If you've read any reviews, then you've probably heard this already, but it just felt like an overly long TV episode, replete with average special effects and a jarring moment with a portrait of George Bush that's the sort of thing you get away with on TV a lot more than you do on film. My overall impression was that this would have been a better film if they'd made it independently of X-Files, i.e. used different characters and called it something else. The references to the characters' history were the weaker moments of the film. Overall this could have waited for DVD, but I had won tickets, and felt obliged to use them. Six out of ten Snifters for this one.

The following night the wife and I returned to the theater for Forgetting Sarah Marshall. This is a comedy from writer Jason Segel, who also stars. Segel is an Apatow alum, and the film incudes Jonah Hill and Paul Rudd, who will be familiar to fans of the Apatow stable. The reason that I think this crew are doing so well is that they provide romantic comedies that follow the formula, but manage to also treat the audience like adults. Characters tend to act true to type, rather than the inevitable crisis coming from someone doing something that they just wouldn't do. Feelings displayed by the characters feel more real and less contrived, giving the comedy a much more real backdrop to play against, which I think makes it funnier. Overall I enjoyed this film, and it gave me a new appreciation for the, um, talents of Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell. Eight Snifters out of ten.

More recently, I saw Wanted. This actioner based on a lesser-known graphic novel and it pays to know this going it - it makes the crazy action and hyper-stylization easier to deal with. Once you've realised that the laws of physics aren't going to apply consistently, you can sit back and enjoy the fun. James McAvoy is a charismatic lead, even when he's playing a bit of a loser. He's likeable and easy to barrack for. Angelina Jolie is made for the kind of role she plays here. She has a way of saying an awful lot without opening her mouth, with a kind of knowing smile that conveys amusement, indulgence, kindness, patience and disdain all at once, which is perfect for her character of Fox. Director Timur Bekmambetov has the "style over substance" thing down in this movie, and it's great for a while, but when the movie takes its inevitable twist, it's not as much fun as the first half journey that McAvoy's character takes. Worthwhile overall, but not an instant classic. Seven Snifters out of ten.

It was e most touching moment in my life! **lolx** :D I think Im like e last gerl on Earth to receive a bouquet of flower from a guy! WTH!! **lolx**

Okayy... Touched my heart okayy!! :P He gave me a bouquet of flower (3 pink roses) & 2 boxes of Ferrero Rocher!!! Waliao!! Super shocked sia!! Okayy... Actually I kind of mad at him, soo he called Fitri to meet him after I end work just to buy those gifts. **weirdo** I suspected Fitri was talking to him on e phone but I just ignored laa! Then, after awhile Fitri gone missing, she came back up holding a plastic & a bouquet of flower! I was like "WTH!!"... I don't want to accept it in e first place. Till he's like such a gentleman, he came up to meet me personally just to apologise!!! Waliao!! Touching sia!! **lolx** :P It wasn't his fault actually but he still apologised. **cute kann??!!**lolx** ;) I kind of paisey already. So I kept smiling lorr! **haha** :P Then, ya.... Time to break my fast as I was fasting yesterday. Hmm~ Break my fast at KFC. Got Variety Meal for myself. But I only ate that 1 piece of chix & e whipped potato only. Gave e Shroom burger to Zureena. She shared with Fitri. **haha** Well.. He was still with us. He treated us FYI. **haha** Thanks yea... Appreciate it lots! :)

Then, as usual, me, Fitri & Zureena making soo much noise! He kept smiling with our lame jokes! **hahahaha** After much "kechorables" we left for home.

Aaaaannnndddd..... He sent us home in a shared cab!! Waliao again!!

Went to 2 places on one day. **weee** Went to Bugis & Orchard for shopping! **haha** Supposingly to meet Zureena @Holland V for her photography assignments, but ended up she moved from place to place with her partner. So me & Fitri decided to go Bugis as our first pit stop. As she waited for me near my house bus stop. Took bus 7 to Bugis. Soo... Here it goes...

Bugis : Went for window shopping at first. Then decided what to buy when we were there. So bought a couple of stuffs here & there. Both from Bugis Village & Bugis Junction. **hehe** But before we started off for shopping, had our lunch @KFC. Fitri had Variety meal for herself. But she doesn't eat e shroom burger cos she's already full. **haha** We "tapao" e burger. **lolx** After having e energy to move about we start to shop! **wee** Mainly, we bought similar items. **haha** Cousins mah! **lolx** When we were there, its like we doesn't have a fix destination to go. So keep wondering about e whole of Bugis. **haha** Weird seyy! But nvm laa.. Fun mah! Still ended up spending unwantingly. **lolx** Oh ya! Not to forget, we got a free make-up make-over at Bourjois cosmetics outlet @Bugis Juntion. **haha** Credits to e aunty. She's very friendly. After much shopping & walking, we move on to Orchard..... 

Orchard : Upon reaching, first pit stop was @Wisma Atria. As we alight at e bus stop behind it. And we walk here & there. Picture taking going on as usual! **haha** Called Nizam when we were there. He went for his haircut at one of e saloon don't know where laa.. He was with his bestie, Usop. Since he's not done yet with e cutting, we walked around first. After walking at Wisma, moved on to FarEast Plaza. That's where lots of happening things happen! **lolx** On our way to Wisma, we met few people we know. **haha**

Fitri:Eh aku kenal dia! Aku kenal dia! Aku kenal dia!

Ella:*looking at e guy Fitri recognised* Eh tu!! **haha**

It was Fairus. He was with his shades. **lolx** So we approached him, stood infront of him & purposely i waved to him. We were in e middle of e walkway. **lolx** He was shocked to see us! **haha** Then exchanged numbers. **woah** After short conversation, he left. So me & Fitri continued walking to FarEast.. Then I saw Azman, kind of shocked. But we just smiled & walked off. **haha** Lame! Okayy.. Reached FarEast, was like Heaven for us! First shop was Fitri's favourite shop! e "Buttons Pop" shop! Cheap2 items!! **haha** But sadly she didn't buy anything from e shop that day. So continued to other shops. Walk & walk & walk & walk.... Nizam called.

Nizam:Oii! Kau katne?

Ella:Kat FarEast. Kau dabis gunting rambut?

Nizam:Da! Skarang aku nak gi Taka dgn Usop. Pape kau picit aku je.

Ella:Okayy! *hang*

After that, continued walking again. Fitri bought 2 shades for $20. **haha** Nyce! Very e retro!! **haha** Enough of walking & shopping @FarEast, walked out of e building. Then saw my cousin beside my dad. Walk passed by KFC. Looked inside, Aisha not around. So i called her.

Ella:Kak! Kau katne?

Aisha:Keje laa! Mana lagi?..

Ella:KFC?

Aisha:Yela dik..Kau katne?

Ella:Aku baru pass by KFC, tk nampak kau pon...?

Aisha:Aku ada kat dalam la.

Ella:Okayy! Aku masok ni. Tk nampak pon?!

Aisha:Jalan je. Nanti kau mesti nampak aku.

Ella:Okayy! Aku nampak kau! **haha** ~ *hang*

Then asked her for "free" drinks actually. But oklaa. She gave 10% discount. Staff discount. **lolx** Eventually it was evening time. Nearly 1900hrs. She knocked off at that timing. So dine in KFC, wait for her. After that walk her to bus stop. Talk & joke around at e bus stop. **lolx** Her bus arrived. She left for home. (actually meeting her boifey, Azmi) **haha** Nizam called again.

Nizam:Kau katne?

Ella:Aku kat opposite FarEast bobal dgn member aku jap.

Nizam:Okayy! Aku meet kau kat Starbucks daerah Lido.

Ella:Okayy! *hang*

Walked to Lido..... That's where Fitri's heart pumped like don't know what to say! **haha** She met "House of Blue" people. The people she doesn't want to meet! **lolx** Funny sia her. She kept saying..

Fitri:Aku tknk jumpa penguin! Aku tknk jumpa penguin! Tk prepared to meet him!

Ella:LOL!!! Don't worry. U will meet him for sure! *scaring her*

Fitri:TAKNAK!!!

Ella:LOL!!!

But by end of e day... NOPE, never meet penguin.. hmm~ Okayy... Met Nizam & Usop near Starbucks area. They smoke then had dinner with them @MacDonald Lido. After dinner, headed to Lucky Plaza. I'm yet unsure why exactly it helps, but believing I've made a few choice people feel like complete and utter crap really perks me up. I'm aware it is a total selfish asswipe move to take things out on others--however subtly--but damn, it's fun.

It's slightly sad that at the ripe age of sixteen I am beginning to spot subtle little trends over the years. Fourteen was a remarkably dull age, and I was an unobliging loser. Fifteen was the B-rate teen movie, what with all the coming-of-age and growing-into-self shite I went through. And now this one--my emo year, it seems. At least I am in full support of passive-agressive rage.

Furthermore, although I suspect it's mostly because summer has managed to degenerate my brain in that way only two months of slack can manage, I'm having trouble writing lately. Age-old problem of not having anything to write about, and on top of that my style feels childish and loose. It's like I'm a cougar past her prime--although I could get back into the game at full strength, there's just no reliving the days of my cougar peak without delibating cosmetic surgery (a somewhat attractive venture).

Over the summer to date, I have learned:

  • I downright suck at reading people
  • Musicals are wicked
  • I am awfully quiet sometimes
  • I like playing guitar REALLY LOUDLY
  • Everyone does drugs. Seriously, it's insane
  • I can cut my own hair capably
  • I am bitter and proud of it like some cynical forty-year-old woman
  • I thought each level of education would be progressively better than the last, and I still maintain this in spite of its being disproved
  • Philosophy is wicked fun indeed (Descartes is an asshole)
  • I enjoy coffee perhaps a little too much
  • High school was, on the whole, without personal-related drama and stereotypical coming-of-age events for me (JINX)
  • I have absolutely no goddamn clue what I want to be when I grow up, and there's no way I'm figuring it out anytime soon.
  • There are, believe it or don't, bands out there that I like that are not from the 90s, and on this side of the millenium

Learning is fun.

Now, fetlife is a great idea in theory... I like being to be able to keep in touch with my kinkster friends, and I like to hear about their activities in a way that isn't watered down for the general (facebook) public. I also love filling out online profiles. I want every single bit of information possible to be up there. It's way cool. But then the hyenas come a-callin'. And by hyena's I mean nasty-ass old men who are not actually that nasty or that old or at all creepy until they start talking about BDSM and asking me to play with them. Ew ew ew!

It's not only that!

I'm discovering more and more that I'm not nearly as into BDSM as most of the players I know. I'm a heavy player myself, but the frequency with which I play is extremely varied.

People who play every single day fit readily, in my mind, in the same category as habitual drug users and alcoholics. Now, I have multiple friends who fall into each if not all of these categories; and that's cool, but it's not really me.

(side note) I feel like I just put a negative spin on people's kink/play habits by comparing them to drink/drug habits and I didn't mean it to sound negative. Au contraire! I love me some druggies and alcoholics (and kinksters). And while I don't seem to possess the easily-substance-addicted trait that much of my family does, it doesn't stop me from collecting people who do. A lot of the time I find the habitual drug users and the regular drinkers in NY a lot more interesting than the kinksters. Probably because I would rather be out getting drunk, or whatever, than getting beaten or beating on someone. They're comparable activities, after all. Both give you a buzz, both are social, and both can give you a wicked hangover. Well sorta. (end note)

I would much rather go hiking, museuming, kayaking, biking, play board games, videogames, and watch cult films, and occasionally get totally soused at a dive bar then do even the most intense & rewarding BDSM scene -ever- in someone's living room. I'm interested in meeting John Waters fanatics, filth queens, anti-intellectual intellectuals and most of all: people who incidentally like hardcore BDSM but don't make it their identity. That being said: I prefer okc to fetlife.

My lifestyle choice: At the risk of sounding hella cheezy I am going to compare SM to chocolate. Ahem. I rarely feel like eating chocolate (strange I know!) but when I do, nothing else but chocolate can fill that need. And I rarely feel like doing a heavy scene but when I do then only horribly wonderfully painful things can fill that void. But mostly I'd just like to socialize without all the you get naked and put on this collar and then I'll coat you in pancake batter and tell you you're a pretty girl part. I'm good. (Not to say that I wouldn't be willing to do exactly that for the right person.)

Um so yeah. I like fetlife as a tool to keep in touch and be able to stalk old friends (like facebook) but when I want to find new partners to scene, with I'll use okcupid.
