Novo disco do Queen no pedaço. É, vocês não estão lendo errado. O Queen, ou melhor, Brian May e Roger Taylor juntaram os instrumentos com Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company) e lançaram um disco de estúdio. Sim, não é inédita essa parceria, em 2005 eles fizeram um show ao vivo chamado "Return of Champions". Mas e então José? E então que isso não é Queen, na humilde opinião desse que vos escreve e é um grande fã da banda.

Isso não quer dizer que esse novo disco seja ruim de se ouvir, mas eu sinceramente achei muita pretensão estampar o nome Queen na banda, já que 50% dos membros originais não estão presentes. Até na sonoridade é perceptível a falta da identidade da banda, pois na maioria das músicas não existe o timbre peculiar da guitarra de May. Paul Rodgers até canta bem, mas não é o estilo que eu curto. Roger faz seu trabalho competente na bateria.

Eu tenho toda a trajetória do Queen, desde 1973 com Queen I até o derradeiro Innuendo de 1991. Depois lançaram alguns caça-níqueis, mas sempre com o grande Freddie Mercury nos vocais. Embora a banda tenha mudado sua sonoridade com o passar dos anos, a essência sempre continuou a mesma, tanto é que a formação da banda nunca mudou.

Então amiguinhos, ouçam e tirem suas próprias conclusões. Na minha discografia do Queen esse álbum não tem lugar. =)

We ended up just a row or so back from the barrier at the end of the walkway, and got some fabulous pictures as a result, although I was happy to just be there watching them perform, with a huge grin on my face, screaming and yelling and being 17 again.

Main difference is that at 17, I don't recall having sore feet and legs from standing so long. Given that the group are 20 years ahead of me it says loads for their levels of fitness and stamina (and mine, but let's ignore that for the time being). I also have a lousy memory and I'm aware that all this is fading away even as I watch. Really wish I had an automatic replay button.

Anyway, I felt a slightly different edge to this show. Already brilliant as a team, they're now evolving towards little flashes of genius and being QPR, rather than Q & PR. Sometimes, they reminded me of proud parents, like when the audience all take part in Paul's call and response during "Another one bites the dust". Sometimes, they were in rock maestro mode, making the SECC wobble with effortless power.

But, they were also playing some tracks from the new album, material that the audience don't know off-pat yet (NB the new tracks benefit from being played live, like they're back in their natural habitat). And offering something new for our delectation puts the guys back into somewhat unfamiliar territory of "what do you think of this?" which is a very healthy place to be methinks.

This audience is incredibly faithful, but I really appreciated the fact that nobody was being taken for granted. The work that's gone into this tour (and into the album too) is phenomenal. Most importantly though, the whole team were very obviously having a LOT of fun.

Being a Q + PR show allows each performer their own chance to shine, but the sequencing between the different elements of the show is far more seamless this time: Brian emotionally dedicating LOML to all our mums; Roger's creative use of bass and building of drum kit; Paul's gorgeous solo rendition of Seagull. A beautiful version of "Say it's not true" allowed each man's distinctive voice to pull the group back together.

I am always amazed by the blinding connection between Brian and Roger, and tonight was no different. I love guitar solos and drum solos, but I prefer it when one complements the other. (Tonight it was just gorgeous.) The addition of Paul's voice simply completes the equation. And while Roger's voice is excellent, I actually prefer Paul singing "Radio GaGa".

Reviews of Q+PR seem to focus on the strangest things. Firstly, they are fixated by Paul not being Freddie (excellent visual awareness there, folks), Brian's hair tends to get a regular cliched mention, and the back catalogue is inevitably mixed up by journalists not doing their jobs properly. While reviewers are entitled to their opinion, I'd rather people who didn't appreciate their music left Brian, Roger and Paul to those of us who do.

Come back to Glasgow soon, folks. Please?

Los británicos se presentarán en el club Vélez Sarsfield el 21 de Noviembre.

La legendaria banda de glam rock vuelve otra vez a nuestro país, esta vez (obviamente) sin Freddy Mercury. Lo reemplaza como voz principal Paul Rodgers, el cantante británico de Free y Bad Company.

Sólo unos pocos días atrás se produjo el lanzamiento del primer disco de Queen + Paul Rodgers, The Cosmos Rock, luego de trece años de inactividad en estudio del grupo.

La gira The Cosmos Rock Tour, que comenzó el 16 de septiembre en Moscú, Rusia, llegará a la Argentina el 21 de Noviembre de 2008 al estadio de Vélez Sarsfield. Brian May declaró que es probable que toquen un bloque completo de los infaltables clásicos de la banda, complementados con casi todo el material nuevo de The Cosmos Rock.

Actualmente, ya sin Freddy y sin John Deacon (quien se retiró de la música en el año 1997), Queen está conformado por: Brian May (guitarra y voces), Roger Taylor (batería y voces), Paul Rodgers (voces y guitarra), Spike Edney (teclados, coro), Jamie Moses (segunda guitarra, coros), Danny Miranda (bajo, guitarra acústica, coros).

E' stata davvero una bellissima esperienza vissuata in amicizia assieme ad un mio amico e la sua ragazza. Sono uscito senza parole. Ieri sera ho capito perchè adoro tanto i Queen. Vederli dal vivo poi è un'altra storia. Si non c'è da discutere secondo me :)

La parte più emozionante del concerto? Penso sentire Brian May suonare la sua chitarra in solitaria. Davvero impressionante da quanto è bravo. Nulla da togliere a Roger Taylor o Paul Rodgers vista la loro bravura ma la parte di May mi ha lasciato davvero un bel segno.

E' stato bellissimo quando sullo schermo alle spalle è apparso Freddy Mercury e tutto il datch forum si è alzato in piedi. Anche il finale è stato davvero emozionante con tutta la gente in piedi. Che brividi ... che emozioni ... davvero una bellissima esperienza!

Al momento ho davvero tanto sonno per scrivere altro. Spero solo che il prossimo tour passi ancora per l'Italia così potrei (= molto ipotetico...vero?) andarci nuovamente a vedereli!
