[rant]Hey, you know what I like Sony? I love when I go to my local retailer to pick up a highly anticipated title, go home and throw it into my severely disowned system and am greeted by a 10 minute install. Not to mention when I finally get excited to play after that, I'm kicked in the balls by another 438 MB patch that has to be distributed by the brutally slow PSN.[/rant]

Linger In Shadows might have only been 7 minutes long, but if you've played it you'll know the soundtrack is pretty damn good. Developers Plastic are coming over all generous and are giving away the soundtrack to their demoscene free on their website. The zip file contains the soundtrack to LIS as well as a track from one of their other projects 'Into The Pink'.

You can download the soundtrack here. If you don't want to pay for the 'thing' then you can watch a YouTube video after the jump, it dosen't have trophies though.

I spent a little bit of time after updating my PS3 firmware last night playing the PSN version of Pu

I spent a little bit of time after updating my PS3 firmware last night playing the PSN version of Puzzle Quest. I've played the Nintendo DS and PSP versions of the same game and really enjoyed the portable versions. Yes, the DS version was easier, but combining puzzle and RPG elements is really a genius move. When I found out that it was coming to PSN, it was a no-brainer for me to want it... after all, we're talking cleaner (and bigger) visuals, among other possible improvements.

Now that I've spent some time with the game, I'm not quite as thrilled as I'd hoped I would be. Sure, the game looks great... and the new content (by way of the included expansion) is solid... but there are bugs and minor issues here that makes me shake my head. For starters, the music incessantly loops. Since the game doesn't support custom soundtracks, you get the stock music and that's it. The stock music isn't bad, but the tracks don't rotate on their own; you have to prompt a chance by going into the Options menu and toggling the music off and then on again. How was this bug not picked up? I also have a small issue with the controls, as they're not quite as responsive as they should be. Button presses don't seem to be registered all the time, so you wind up having to press the X button a few times to get the desired response. Thankfully, Puzzle Quest isn't a time-based game, so you can take all the time you need to select your grid and make your move.

The last issue is more of a gripe, and that's one that's been echoed by at least one review so far: Why aren't Trophies supported? Come on now... we've had Trophies supported by PS3 firmware for months. There simply isn't an excuse for any developer not to include Trophy support in a game that's coming out now (and beyond) for the PS3. I don't want to hear that development tools weren't available... or any other excuses. At this point in the PS3's lifecycle, if a publisher needs to delay a title in order to implement Trophy support, then make it so.

Having said all of this, Puzzle Quest is still as good-- if not better-- on the PS3 as it's ever been. It's funny to me how I can have as much fun with this game the third time around.

A few other observations:

Linger in Shadows was a pretty cool ride for only $3. I still haven't unlocked all of the Trophies, but I have played through it more than once. It's very stylish; the music is arguably as awesome as the visuals are. There are worse things that you could spend $3 on, and, at the very least, it's good for several Trophies after your very first playthrough.

Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars may be fun online (if I could find more opponents), but the offline modes grow old quickly. I'm really not overly impressed with the game, despite some pretty cool replays after goals are scored... soccer with cars just doesn't work all that well.

I don't know why I can't get into Rogue Galaxy. I tried playing it for a couple of hours last night, and I'm just not a fan of the combat system. It feels like some strange variation of Tri-Ace's combat system from Star Ocean: 'Til The End Of Time. Also, Will Friedle (of Boy Meets World fame) as the protagonist? Really? This one's trade bait later today, I think.

NFL Blitz update: I'm 8-0 now. The 7th win was the toughest as it took 3 OT periods for me to come out on top. Late hits are awesome, and I don't know how I remembered the code for Big Heads. I'm still averaging over 30 points per game, while allowing a shade under 26 points per game. The inevitable spike in opponent difficulty likely isn't too far behind.

Why not check out my latest columns over at Games Are Evil?
SOCOM Confrontation is available (Though most of us will have to wait until tomorrow), and many early reports are saying that the title does NOT include Trophies.

There are some rumors going around that FW 2.50 will enable the Trophies and another that a patch is in the works. Until then, rest easy all you Trophy Whores out there... you aren't missing out on anything for now.

Today I went to log into my PSN account and to my surprise I got a message. Servers unavailable

please try logging in later. Read the photo. The small box to the far right states the server down schedule.

West coast time down: Oct.14th 11:00AM - 5:00PM

East coast time: Oct. 14th 2:00PM - 8:00PM

So there you go. I thought my PS3 was broken since I didn't get any E-Mail warnings or anything.

Every time XBLive! is gonna be down, I always got some kind of notice via a message on XBL or an E-Mail.

Hope this helps.

Hello World!

It's been almost a month.

Nobody reads this - in fact I doubt my friends even know it exists. I've been traveling a fair amount.

I was in Houston, Raliegh/Durham, & Green Bay in the span of 3 days. That was an ass-kicker. I then proceeded to go to Vancouver, BC the next week & it turns out, in a cruel twist of fate, I will be going up this week as well. Actually, this week is for vacation...

I'm now back at work now & things are slow. So slow that I've had some time to play some games. I just finished "The Last Guy" on PSN & it was a delight.

Here's some game play. Basically, you're a super hero that has to save people from different kinds of zombies and liquid-hot-magma.

It is, in my opinion, the best PSN game released so far. It has all the elements of a great casual game. Easy to learn, easy to play, moderately difficult to master.

Each level is at max, 10 minutes long which is the prefect amount of time for a casual game.

Go buy it.

[By Anthony]

Oh how we love the ESRB and the ammount of early information they provide. This time the American ratings board have rated a new Marvel Vs. Capcom game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. I presume that the game will be downloadable from the PS Store (and XBLA) when it comes out. The ESRB has been pretty helpful (and accurate) with their leaks thus far. Hopefully it stays that way.

Spelunker is getting a graphically overhauled remake on the PSN. This was originally a platformer on the NES which made it's way to the virtual console earlier this year. A new feature is the ability to play in 4-player split screen, something obviously never possible on the NES. The game has an emphasis on ladder climbing, pit jumping, hazardous obstacles and most of all dieing a lot.

As posted on IGN.com

According to the Capcom Unity boards, Talisman has been canceled. Christian Svenson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development, posted:

"Rather recently we have finally stopped development completely. After a misfire at the start, the details of which I won't get into, we evaluated several options for moving the project to new developers, but the costs of moving forward outweighted the potential revenue. I realize this will be disappointing for the fans of the game.

The rights have reverted back to Games Workshop where I hope someone will pick them up and try again. I too still would like to play a Talisman videogame."

Talisman was set to be a videogame realization of the classic board game of the same name, playable online or off with up to four players on Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and PC.

Our friends at NeoGAF did some great research and located a true treat for all of us. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has been registered with ESRB for the PS3. It is assumed that this will be a PSN title because additional information showing that this title has been spotted on PartnerNet. (A place for developers to test online games before they are released for XBLA). This game is coming...now for how soon...no clue.

I just need everyone to know that I will crush you all in the game. I seriously mean that. LoL!. This game is a classic and costs a ton of money to purchase off of Ebay. I recall all night tournaments at the Gamestop where I used to work. Good times, good times.

Feel free to offer challenges early. ;)

Although Sony hasn't given us a date, but they've given us some information on the next PS3 update. Based on the features listed it's gotta be soon, the official PS3 bluetooth headset (bundled with SOCOM Confrontation) hits stores TOMORROW.

Here's a quick rundown of the new features you can expect in firmware 2.5:

Support for the PS3 Official Bluetooth Headset

PlayStation Trophies interface enhancements

Friend status enhancements

Power Save Settings

In-game Screenshots (in games that support the feature)

The PSP will also be getting a new firmware soon (5.00) which will introduce access to the Playstation Store via wifi connection, and will tie your PS ID to both your PSP and PS3.

Wondering if this means we'll get trophies on PSP? I wouldn't hold my breath.

Eric Lempel announced the obvious to PlayStation owners today; Firmware updates are coming for the PS3 and PSP. Each of these updates are bringing several new features that should leave PlayStation owners overjoyed. Now to decide which update to discuss first, any suggestions? I think I'll go with the PSP, that update is just too good hold back. Firmware 5.00 brings:

A full keyboard on screen. YAY

PSN log-in

PlayStation Store

A sleep timer

XMB Background redesign. (Doesn't most everyone use a wallpaper now)

Full info here

That's a good start, heck, if that was the only update for the week, I'd be dancing. You know that can't be the case. We need new firmware for those Official Sony Headsets that are coming out tomorrow. (Socom Bundle for those that forgot). This is the rundown of what is the latest PS3 firmware update (2.50):

Official Headset Support

Redeem Code Feature on PS Store

Search Scene Video Feature

Auto-Off after Background download completion

Power save options

Friend status

PlayStation trophy info enhancement

Full info here

Sony is doing it big this week. We will have 2 firmware updates, the release of the official headset, and PSN goes mobile. Not to mention that the PSN store on the PSP uses the same cash you put in your wallet previously, something Nintendo just doesn't think is convenient or necessary. Thanks Sony!!!!!!!!!!!
