According to a research report published earlier this year by the Mobile Consumer Lab of the International University of Japan, "MontaVista Mobilinux currently dominates the Linux market for wireless devices, having implemented over 90 percent of Linux-based smartphones shipped in 2007." <p>An article obtained by Impress can give everyone a prediction of what the next PlayStation may be like. It seems like Sony with continue using the Cell processor for many reasons, especially to be able to reduce costs (which was a lesson they seem to have learned from Nintendo). Instead of having to create another processor from scratch, Sony will save money by just speeding up the processor and using another type of memory. It will make the programming job easier to code, too. If the info is true, the system may be on sale in 3 years.</p>

Parece que Sony continuará usando el procesador Cell por algunas razones, más bien para preducir costos (la que fue una lección que parece que aprendieron de Nintendo). En vez de tener que crear otro procesasdor desde cero, Sony ahorarrá dinero con solo acelerar la velocidad del procesador y usando otro tipo de memoria. Hará también el trabajo de programación más fácil de hacerlo. Si la información es verdadera, el sistema pudiese estar a la venta en 3 años.</p>

The typing is not to bad when you can get yourself to not touch the touchpad by hovering your hands in a correct position. </span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;"><span style="font-size:small;">Sometimes a by product of having a system that can handle so many multiple sessions is that the byproduct is I spin off tons of seperate documents for even just a small fraction of a thought, and tons of webpages, since its faster to keep setting one up while another is loading in the background then I work through each tab and browser one webpage load at a time moving to the next step in the next task.<span>  </span>Somehow when getting to some new material or tasks one forgets the everyday routine ones started at the beginning until one maxes out the memory resources of the machine, often dozens of sessions opened at one time.<span>  </span>Then to do a proper pull out and shut down can take quite a long time as one finishes that which can be finished, and takes note of what needs to be taken note of for later, and save whatever web pages need to be saved for later.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;"><span style="font-size:small;"> </span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;"><span style="font-size:small;">I don't feel like the Alpha 400 is hampering my productivity because the changes in<span>  </span>style necessary to the machine are not really necessarily bad for my productivity.<span>  </span>I must account for my personal prejudice which gives me an incentive to adapt.<span>  </span>I like little computers, I want them to be available, I know that I need to demonstrate that they are useful.</span></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-family:&#34;"><span style="font-size:small;">These are things I use alot so far: AbiWord - A Word compatible<span>  </span>wordprocessor.<span>  </span>I save my files either to the internal flash drive, my 4GB USB key drive or my 1GB SD chip.<span>  </span>I use the wi-fi signal widget and the BonEcho, A Firefox driven WebBrowser optimized for small linux machines.<span>  </span>Particularly I like the Bookmark function on the browser which I use to point to webpages I've saved and may need to refer to quickly, as they seem to pull up well and quickly that way.</span></span></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>After feeling the age of my laptop and looking forward to my needs in the next 3 years, I decided to buy a new computer. I had gone back and forth on whether to buy a Macbook or buy the components and build my own desktop. Admittedly, I had been disillusioned with Mac OSX, deciding that it was inadequate for the area I wanted to study, which was graphics technology, with an emphasis on PC gaming. So as I moved away from the Mac, I embraced the challenge and admittedly less common route of building my desktop computer.</p>
<p>I had about a $1300 - $1400 budget, including the monitor, so I chose mid-end parts. As a gaming machine, I decided to choose my graphics card setup first. Knowing that I would be upgrading this build as time went on, I chose the 9800GTX+. Not only would it give me more than enough power to run daily tasks, it handles a reasonable amount of gaming. Plus, with EVGA and BFG Tech, you can switch your card with a better one and only pay the difference in the cards, plus shipping and taxes, within 90 and 100 days after purchase, respectively. I would only pay about $130 or so to get the better GTX260, with 216 processing cores. And even later, as prices drop, get a second one and go SLI, so knowing this, I chose the motherboard.</p>
<p>The great thing about building a PC is not actually building it (though that is also fun), but learning about the components and the component industry. While I wanted to go SLI, I naively thought that all motherboards that had the required PCI2.0 x16 slots would run SLI. Little did I know that nVidia is moderately restrictive about what boards can support SLI. Up until Nvision 2008, only motherboards that had teh nVidia chipset can support SLI. At Nvision 2008, it was announced that the Intel x58 chipset would also support SLI, if the specific motherboards passed certain conditions. Knowing this, I set a $120 - $180 budget for a motherboard. The one that stood out on Newegg ratings (this was before the Spore reviewers disillusioned me) was the ASUS P5N-D board. It had 2 PCI 2.0 x16 slots that ran at x16 in SLI (most boards had x8 and x16 or x8 and x8 speeds) and a slew of other features that made it perfect for mid-high-end gaming. Thus choosing the motherboard, I chose the processor.</p>
<p>I must admit that I was biased toward nVidia and Intel from the beginning. One compliment that I think all will agree on is that Intel and nVidia have effective marketing agencies. Of course, I chose an Intel processor. The choice was relatively simple. I knew I wanted dual-core (quad was too expensive for my wallet) and all I had to choose was the clock speed. Although I knew that I could buy a cheaper processor and overclock, I figured I'm taking small steps and not going whole-hog until I finished this PC. I decided that since the higher clock CPU's are manufactured to run at stock speeds with stock fans, I settled on one within my budget and needs. This led to the choice of the Intel dual-core E8400, costing a mere $169.99. From the reviews I read, it's a great overclocker (assuming adequate cooling) and would serve me great for the next few years. It's also a big step up from my laptop CPU, a first generation dual-core with a 1.8 clock speed.</p>
<p>The other components were relatively easy decisions. After researching RAM amounts online, I decided on 2GB with a CAS latency of 5 and 5-5-5-18 timing. Enough for my needs. I found a deal on an ASUS monitor (which I am now using) that was 22'', 2ms response time, 2000:1 contrast ratio and HDCP-compatible for a mere $235. Great deal. The case was also a pretty simple choice. The Antec Nine-Hundred was only $100 (cheap for a cool (literally) gaming case) and was nice-looking. I already own a set of speakers, mouse and keyboard, all of which I am happy with.</p>
<p>I guess I'm writing this mostly to get this stuff out of my head and less to inform, but some advice I would give for new system-builders is to find your needs, research what fits you best and find good parts with good reviews. Even if choosing a bit higher-end part seems coming close to your budget, think how long this PC will last and then decide whether the extra money is worth it. I already know I'm buying a laptop next (heck, maybe a Macbook), but the computer after that will be built, but I suspect that I won't build it until I graduate from my university, so I'm glad I built, instead of bought, a new computer and maybe you will be too.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>       Intel has announced that it is now shipping the dual-core 45nm Atom processor that was quietly introduced at the Intel Developer Forum in August.</p>
<p> The chip giant says that the Atom 330 processor is specifically designed for nettops, which means we’re unlikely to see one shoehorned into a netbook. </p>
<p> Indeed, Intel sells the chip as part of an integrated package, which includes an Intel 945GC chipset for desktop use.  With that said though, I wouldn’t be surprised if at least one manufacturer has already thought about making a new, slightly bulkier netbook based on the Atom 330.<br /><!--more--><br /> The Atom 330 is clocked at 1.6GHz and features 1MB of L2 cache (512KB per core), support for DDR2-667 memory and an 8W thermal design power.  The chip also supports Intel HyperThreading technology, meaning the processor can handle up to four threads simultaneously.</p>
<p> According to Intel’s pricelist, the processor will cost $43 each in 1,000 unit quantities – that’s about 50 percent more than the single-core Atom 230 that shares the same basic feature set (aside from doubling the core count).</p>

<p><strong>Guide to Graphics Cards</strong>: I can't think of a better resource to use than the <a href="http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Best-Graphics-Card,2011.html"><em>Best Video Cards For The Money</em></a> series on <a href="http://tomshardware.com">Tom's Hardware</a>. The staff over at Tom's updates the articles monthly, which is essential in a market where the next generation of hardware is released approximately every six months. Tom's gives you the run-down, so to speak, showing the best cards at particular price points for both PCI-e and AGP card slots (most people should only look at PCI-e; AGP is only if your computer is older and you haven't upgraded in forever). Heck, I used this guide when I picked up my XFX 8800 GT in January.</p>

<p><strong>Guide to Processors</strong>: If you're looking to get a new CPU, take a look at the resources at Tom's Hardware again. Take note that these aren't updated nearly as often as the GPU guide that is listed above. That's for two reasons. First, processors aren't released with quite the same frequency of graphics cards. Second, the GPU guide is updated to reflect the almost-frantic price changes that occur as ATI and nVidia battle for the best value. While that does occur to some extent with CPUs, it isn't nearly as frequent, and not all processors are lowered in price. Most frequently, processors price drops are the result of either making room for newer models as they are released, or to compete more directly with their competition. Check out <a href="http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/247939-28-buyers-guide-updated-2008">this guide</a> in the forum over at Tom's. It's a bit lengthy, and goes into detail in places that simply aren't necessary for your average consumer, but the guys over there know their stuff. <p><strong>Guide to Hard Drives</strong>: Hard drives, quite frankly, have no set schedule with which they are released. Add on top of that the fact that there are five (give or take) major manufacturers of hard drives, compared to two each for graphics cards and processors, and you've got a fairly confusing playing field. Luckily, other factors are simplified, making the overall process a bit easier. The main producers of hard drives are Seagate, Samsung, Wester Digital, Hitachi, and Maxtor. Other than that, use 3.5" drives for desktops, and 2.5" (or occasionally 1.8") for laptops. The speed at which your drive spins will be listed, and is usually 7200 RPM or 5400 RPM. If you see a decimal number afterward, it denotes what revision is belongs to - ex a drive marked 7200.11 will generally have better performance than one marked 7200.9. Once again, head over to Tom's Hardware and look at their <a href="http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/hard-drives,3.html">Hard Drive charts</a>. They've got performance benchmarks done on enterprise drives, externals, 2.5" drives, and 3.5" drives.</p>
<p>Notice a trend here? I'm directing you to Tom's Hardware for your component selection needs. Tom's has a rather large staff, and as such is able to maintain extensive resources like all these charts and buyer's guides. Some people have denounced Tom's and accused them of selling out, becoming commercial, etc., but I say more power to them. They've found a good balance between providing detailed information and being accessible to the average consumer. The "selling out" is the reason they're so successful, and the reason they can help you out. I'm in no way affiliated with Tom's, I just like their site. Others have articles that are more in depth, or a little more insightful, but Tom's has the consistency that is necessary.</p>
<p>If you want to do a little more digging before purchasing anything (and I highly recommend that you do so), go do some product browsing at <a href="http://newegg.com">Newegg.com</a>. They have extensive reviews posted by actual buyers for products, and reading their comments (poth positive and negative) can be extremely helpful in deciding whether or not it is a good use of your money to order Product X. Additionally, I've found their prices to be extremely competitive, matching or besting just about anyone else out there - especially brick and mortar stores.</p>
<p>Time for an Anecdote: sometimes, when I'm at Best Buy (a necessary evil), I'll go over to the part of the store that stocks pc components. Not only do I get a laugh out of their absurd prices, I can sometimes keep an unwitting customer from dropping $250 on a graphics card he or she could find for $100 online (true story). That's kinda satisfying. Best Buy should never hire me, I'd send all their business elswhere ;).</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The next major advance in computer processors will likely be the move from today's two-dimensional chips to three-dimensional circuits, and the first three-dimensional synchronization circuitry is now running at 1.4GHz at the University of Rochester.</p>
<p>Unlike past attempts at 3-D chips, the Rochester chip is not simply a number of regular processors stacked on top of one another. It was designed and built specifically to optimize all key processing functions vertically, through multiple layers of processors, the same way ordinary chips optimize functions horizontally. The design means tasks such as synchronicity, power distribution, and long-distance signaling are all fully functioning in three dimensions for the first time.</p>
<p>"I call it a cube now, because it's not just a chip anymore," says Eby Friedman, Distiguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Rochester and faculty director of the pro of the processor. "This is the way computing is going to have to be done in the future. When the chips are flush against each other, they can do things you could never do with a regular 2-D chip."</p>
<p>Friedman, working with engineering student Vasilis Pavlidis, says that many in the integrated circuit industry are talking about the limits of miniaturization, a point at which it will be impossible to pack more chips next to each other and thus limit the capabilities of future processors;. He says a number of integrated circuit designers anticipate someday expanding into the third dimension, stacking transistors on top of each other.</p>
<p>But with vertical expansion will come a host of difficulties, and Friedman says the key is to design a 3-D chip where all the layers interact like a single system. Friedman says getting all three levels of the 3-D chip to act in harmony is like trying to devise a traffic control system for the entire United States - and then layering two more United States above the first and somehow getting every bit of traffic from any point on any level to its destination on any other level - while simultaneously coordinating the traffic of millions of other drivers.</p>
<p>Complicate that by changing the two United States layers to something like China and India where the driving laws and roads are quite different, and the complexity and challenge of designing a single control system to work in any chip begins to become apparent, says Friedman.</p>
<p>Since each layer could be a different processor with a different function, such as converting MP3 files to audio or detecting light for a digital camera, Friedman says that the 3-D chip is essentially an entire circuit board folded up into a tiny package. He says the chips inside something like an iPod could be compacted to a tenth their current size with ten time s the speed.</p>
<p>What makes it all possible is the architecture Friedman and his students designed, which uses many of the tricks of regular processors, but also accounts for different impedances that might occur from chip to chip, different operating speeds, and different power requirements. The fabrication of the chip is unique as well. Manufactured at MIT, the chip must have millions of holes drilled into the insulation that separates the layers in order to allow for the myriad vertical connections between transistors in different layers.</p>
<p>"Are we going to hit a point where we can't scale integrated circuits any smaller? Horizontally, yes," says Friedman. "But we're going to start scaling vertically, and that will never end. At least not in my lifetime. Talk to my grandchildren about that."</p>

<p align="left">I still remember somewhere in middle of 2000 when I bought my first PC with my own money ( still 19 that time), the latest AMDk6-II 500 MHz. Really awesome. And I ran it with Windows 2000 (Win2k) since I still blind with Linux during that time. That was my first PC and I really love it. I don`t care if the blower make jumbo jet sound or even the CPU can cook egg 2 or 3 times as long as I can get rid of Intel PC (bad experience when my father bought me stupid 486 with win 3.1).  As the time goes along, so do my PC as well, from Thunderbird to Sempron and the latest AMD Athlon X2-dual  core (waiting for phenom X4 series ). All generation dammed good. Even the market penetration done by AMD (Anti- Microsoft Development ….heheheh)  was very very great until the middle of 2006.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="color:black;">Istilah Overcloking<span> </span>mengacu pada upaya-upaya untuk meningkatkan kinerja suatu sistem komputer tanpa mengganti komponen-komponen utamanya. Overclocking biasanya dilakukan untukuk mendapatkan performa maksimal dengan biaya yang relatif minimal. Jadi misalnya kita punya processor dengan clock speed 1.8 GHz kita overclocking menjadi 2.5 GHz maka kinerjanya kurang lebih akan menyamai processor yamg standard clock speednya 2.5 GHz dari keluarga yang sama. Singkatnya, beli processor 1.8 GHz di overclocking menjadi processor 2.5 GHz. Komponen yang sering di overclocking adalah processor, VGA dan memori.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="color:black;">Selain tujuan overclocking tersebut diatas, ada juga yang melakukan overclocking hanya untukuk sekedar hobby atau bahkan lomba. Dan, memang bagi yang gemar, mengutak-utik komponen komputer bisa menjadi kegiatan yang mengasyikkan.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%;"><span style="color:black;"> </span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%;"><strong><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:150%;color:black;">Apakah Semua Komponen Bisa Di Overclocking?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="color:black;">Pada dasarnya semua komponen utama (processor, VGA dan memori) bisa ditingkatkan kinerjanya. Tentu saja ada beberapa syarat yang harus dipenuhi agar komponen tersebut bisa di overclocking. Syarat utamanya adalah komponen tipe tersebut memang bisa di overclocking. Syarat lainnya adalah motherboardnya cukup mendukung overclocking. Biasanya overclocking untuk processor dan memori dilakukan melalui pengaturan besaran beberapa parameter di BIOS. Namun ada beberapa tipe motherboard yang BIOS nya tidak memiliki atau minim pilihan parameter, kalau sudah begini tentu saja sangat sulit melakukan overclocking. Ada juga motherboard (karena kualitas komponen dan designnya) yang memang dukungan overclocking nya relatif rendah.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="color:black;">Overclocking processor yang paling sering dilakukan dan memang relatif paling mudah. Salah satu kendala dalam overclocking adalah faktor temperatur. Semakin cepat clock speed maka panas yang ditimbulkan juga semakin tinggi. Pada titik tertentu, kipas pendingin standard sudah tidak mampu mengatasi sehingga harus digunakan kipas pendingin yang lebih bagus atau bahkan sistem pendingin menggunakan air, <em>freon</em> dan <em>dry ice</em>! Biasanya ini diperlukan pada overclocking yang ekstrim yang dipakai untuk eksperimen atau lomba. Dalam pemakaian sehari-hari tentu saja sangat tidak praktis dan berlebihan. Ibarat naik mobil balap ke kantor.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%;"><strong><span style="color:black;"> </span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%;"><strong><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:150%;color:black;">Overclocking Pada Processor</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="color:black;">Processor di overclocking dengan menaikkan bus speednya. Kecepatan processor pada dasarnya adalah bus speed dikalikan dengan multipliernya. Kecuali pada processor edisi khusus (yang memang diperuntukukkan bagi para overcloker), multiplier processor sudah terkunci pada suatu angka. kita tidak bisa menaikkan angka ini (tapi biasanya bisa diturunkan). Satu-satunya cara menaikkan clock speednya adalah dengan menaikkan bus speednya. </span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="color:black;">Contohnya: Intel C2D E6550, bus speed defaultnya 333 MHz dengan multiplier x7. Artinya clock speed default adalah 333 MHz x 7 = 2.333 MHz. Kalau bus speednya kita rubah jadi 400 (misalnya), maka clock speednya akan menjadi 400 MHz x 7 = 2.800 MHz. Sederhana sekali kan.</span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="color:black;">Tapi harus diingat, dengan bus speed 400 MHz maka memorinya akan bekerja pada DDR 800 MHz. Kalau kita masih pakai memori DDR2 667 MHz, ini akan bisa jadi masalah pada ketidakstabilan sistem atau bahkan sistem gagal boot. Supaya semua lancar maka memori yang dipakai sebaiknya DDR2 800 MHz. Jadi kalau pada kondisi default (333 MHz) sebetulnya memori DDR2 667 MHz sudah memadai, tapi begitu processor di overclocking maka memorinya juga harus mampu mengimbangi kecepatan tersebut. Makanya ada beberapa produsen yang menyediakan memori khusus untuk overclocking (dengan harga lebih mahal tentu saja), dimana memori tersebut masih mampu diajak lari jauh di atas kecepatan defaultnya. </span></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;"><span style="color:black;">Selain masalah panas, pada clock speed tertentu processor juga butuh tegangan yang lebih tinggi supaya kerjanya stabil. Tegangan processor (atau biasa disebut Vcore) standard biasanya berkisar antara 1.2 - 1.5 Volt tergantung pada jenis processornya. Vcore bisa kita rubah dari BIOS (pada motherboard yang menyediakan fitur ini). Hati-hati merubah Vcore, kalau diluar batas toleransinya maka bisa menyebabkan komponen tewas seketika. Untuk overclocker pemula disarankan menjauhi yang namanya Vcore.</span></p>

Bedanya GPU core tidak ada multipliernya dan merubahnya tidak bisa dari BIOS. Ada aplikasi khusus untukuk itu. Kecepatan memori VGA juga bisa kita pacu lewat aplikasi khusus tadi. Kendalanya sama, panas yang ditimbulkan. Solusinya sama pula, ganti kipas pendinginnya. Untuk para gamer, ada baiknya mengerti sedikit soal overclocking VGA supaya apabila dibutuhkan oleh game yang dimainkan, VGA nya bisa di overclocking tanpa perlu ganti VGA.</span></p>

Maka <em>overclock </em>berarti melampaui kecepatan <em>clock.</em></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Secara lengkap istilah <em>overclocking </em>processor berarti mengoperasikan processor pada kecepatan melampaui kecepatan standar. Jika ada <em>overclock </em>maka juga ada istilah <em>underclock </em>, <em>underclock </em>memiliki arti yang berlawanan dengan <em>overclock </em>, yaitu mengoperasikan processor pada kecepatan yang lebih rendah. Tidak ada manfaat yang dapat diperoleh dari <em>underclock </em>, maka dapat dipastikan tidak ada user yang melakukan <em>underclock </em>terhadap processor komputernya.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;"><em>Overclocking </em>adalah upaya yang dilakukan dengan tujuan memaksimalkan atau meningkatkan kecepatan kinerja sistem komputer dengan cara meningkatkan <em>multiplier </em>atau <em>bus speed </em>.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Dengan meningkatkan <em>multiplier </em>atau <em>bus speed </em>atau keduanya akan menghasilkan CPU <em>clock speed </em>yang lebih tinggi, dengan naiknya CPU <em>clock speed </em>maka kecepatan kerja processor juga meningkat. Selain itu dalam <em>overclocking </em>perlu dicapai suatu sistem komputer yang tetap stabil dan aman dalam arti tidak mengalami <em>crash </em>atau <em>hang </em>saat digunakan.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Jawaban utama mengapa <em>overclocking </em>dilakukan adalah untukuk mendapatkan peningkatan kecepatan kerja processor, tetapi ada beberapa alasan yang lebih spesifik, antara lain:</p>

<li class="MsoNormal">Mencoba mengetahui seberapa besar peningkatan yang diperoleh      sebelum memutuskan untukuk mengganti processor dengan kecepatan yang lebih      tinggi dan sama tipenya. Misalnya meng- <em>overclock </em>Pentium 75MHz      ke 90MHz sebelum mengganti processor lama (Pentium 75MHz) dengan Pentium      90MHz yang sesungguhnya.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal">Memperpanjang usia pemakaian processor lama sebagai upaya      menghemat biaya, sebelum membeli processor baru.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal">Memperpanjang usia pemakaian processor lama sambil menunggu      jenis processor baru diluncurkan/diproduksi.</li>
<li class="MsoNormal">Yang terakhir adalah untukuk memperkirakan kemampuan processor      yang akan diproduksi kemudian dalam versi kecepatan yang lebih tinggi, <em>overclock </em>processor dengan tujuan ini biasanya dilakukan dalam waktu singkat      dan sangat ekstrim (peningkatan kecepatan sangat jauh). <em>Overclock </em>tersebut      juga bertujuan untukuk mengetahui batas maksimal (margin) kemampuan suatu processor      jika di- <em>overclock </em>. Kecepatan yang dicapai tentu saja dibatasi      oleh kemampuan processor, motherboard dan komponen pendukungnya. Sebagai      contoh adalah meng- <em>overclock </em>Pentium II 233MHz ke 333MHz      (peningkatan 100MHz). <em>Overclock </em>ini banyak dilakukan oleh para      user maupun hardware tester yang kemudian dipublikasikan di Internet.</li>

Pada kasus lain memerlukan beberapa komponen tambahan berupa pendingin untukuk mengatasi masalah panas.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Harus ada alasan mengapa sebuah processor dapat di- <em>overclock </em>. Tentunya sebuah processor tidak sejak awal dirancang untukuk dapat di- <em>overclock </em>karena hal tersebut merugikan pabrik pembuatnya.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Penyebab processor dapat di- <em>overclock </em>adalah karena pabrik pembuat processor memberikan label produknya dengan kata "c<em>ertified for" </em>bukan <em>"designed for". </em>Kondisi inilah yang memungkinkan <em>overclocking </em>dilakukan pada processor. <em>"Certified for" </em>menyatakan kemampuan processor untukuk beroperasi pada kecepatan tersebut, sedangkan <em>"designed for" </em>menyatakan pengkhususan kecepatan processor hanya untukuk kecepatan tersebut.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Sebagai contoh: sebuah processor Intel Pentium yang oleh pabrik dinyatakan "c <em>ertified for" </em>166MHz, berarti processor tersebut terbukti dan diakui mampu beroperasi pada kecepatan 166MHz, sedangkan bila oleh pabrik processor Intel Pentium dinyatakan <em>"designed for" </em>166MHz maka processor tersebut dibuat untukuk beroperasi hanya pada kecepatan 166MHz saja.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Standar kualitas yang tinggi diutamakan oleh pabrik sebelum produknya dilepas, ini disebabkan oleh persaingan yang ketat antar pabrik pembuat processor PC, selain itu dengan memproduksi processor berkualitas tinggi akan menimbulkan yang baik terhadap pabrik tersebut.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Terkadang processor tersebut dibuat pada <em>die </em>yang sama dengan <em>die </em>processor lain pada kelasnya yang memiliki kecepatan lebih tinggi.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Sebagai keterangan tambahan perlu dijelaskan bahwa tidak tiap pabrik processor melakukan hal seperti yang akan dijelaskan berikut. Lebih spesifik penjelasan berikut didasarkan pada kenyataan yang terjadi pada pabrik processor Intel. Pabrik selalu membuat desain processor untukuk mampu beroperasi pada kecepatan tertinggi, setelah selesai dibuat tiap-tiap processor dites untukuk melihat apakah processor tersebut beroperasi dengan baik pada kecepatan spesifikasi awal yang diberikan. Jika processor tersebut menunjukkan indikasi tidak beroperasi pada 100% kecepatannya, maka processor tersebut dites ulang dengan kecepatan yang lebih rendah, demikian seterusnya sampai processor tersebut lolos tes. Processor tersebut kemudian diberi tanda/label sesuai kecepatan hasil tes yang berhasil dilalui. Dipercaya bahwa ketika pabrik melakukan tes processor mereka memberi label processor pada 1 tingkat kecepatan yang lebih rendah daripada hasil tes yang dilalui, hal ini dilakukan untukuk lebih menjamin kehandalan kerja processor. Sebagai contoh sebuah processor yang lolos tes pada kecepatan 200 MHz akan diberi label 166 MHz. Artinya sebuah processor 166 MHz pada komputer telah disertifikasi ( <em>"certified for" </em>) oleh pabrik mampu untukuk beroperasi pada kecepatan 166 MHz, bahkan pada kondisi yang sangat ekstrim. Kondisi ekstrim yang dimaksud adalah temperatur atau suhu yang tinggi (diatas 60° C), jangkauan perubahan tegangan yang lebar (tidak stabilnya arus listrik sumber), penggunaan operasional secara terus-menerus (beberapa tahun non-stop), dan cara pemakaian lain yang berat.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Proses memaksa komponen processor untukuk bekerja pada kecepatan yang lebih tinggi dari tingkat yang diberikan oleh pabrik kemudian dikenal dengan istilah " <em>overclocking</em>". Berdasarkan keterangan diatas maka disarankan untukuk meng- <em>overclock </em>kecepatan processor satu tingkat lebih tinggi karena ini sama saja mengembalikan kecepatan processor pada kecepatan sesuai dengan hasil tes yang dilaluinya (hanya berlaku untukuk processor Intel), dalam batas itulah <em>overclocking </em>dianggap aman.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Sebelumnya perlu ditekankan bahwa tidak setiap sistem atau konfigurasi komputer mampu beroperasi lebih cepat dari sebelumnya dengan <em>overclocking </em>. Penyebabnya adalah karena sistem tersebut telah dimaksimalkan sebelumnya oleh pabrik atau toko penjual komputer agar dapat bersaing. Pabrik/toko tersebut biasanya menggunakan motherboard, memori, <em>power supply </em>yang berkualitas rendah sehingga bisa menekan harga penjualan. Berarti pada komputer tersebut sangat sulit atau bahkan tidak mungkin dilakukan <em>overclocking </em>. Jika dipaksakan dimungkinkan kerja sistem komputer akan terganggu atau terjadi kerusakan permanen. Selain itu <em>overclocking </em>tidak disarankan untukuk dilakukan pada komputer/PC <em>built-up </em>rakitan pabrik. Mengapa? Pabrik perakit PC <em>Built-up </em>memiliki desain komponen seperti motherboard, memori, vga, monitor tersendiri maka komponen-komponen tersebut juga didesain khusus untukuk masing-masing tipe-tipe processor yang digunakan, komponen-komponen dalam PC diberi label/segel khusus untukuk memastikan PC tersebut tidak 'diutak-atik' oleh user atau pihak lain. PC <em>Built-up </em>juga jarang menyertakan buku manual motherboard dan komponen-komponennya yang spesifik bagi pembeli. Buku manual sangat diperlukan untukuk melakukan <em>overclocking </em>. Tanpa buku <em>overclocking </em>yang dilakukan adalah dengan cara 'coba-coba' yang sangat beresiko, selain itu garansi yang diberikan oleh pabrik akan hilang jika label/segel resmi yang diberikan rusak.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Yang banyak dipercaya saat ini adalah <em>overclocking </em>itu tidak aman, tetapi sekali lagi dengan mengetahui teknik yang benar dan melakukan berbagai pencegahan maka terbuka kesempatan untukuk melakukan <em>overclocking </em>tanpa "membakar" processor yang digunakan.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Melakukan overclock sebenarnya melakukan setup kecepatan clock CPU pada BIOS. Bila processor dengan kecepatan 1.6Ghz dengan bus 100Mhz, artinya processor bekerja pada kecepatan 16X100Mhz akan menghasilkan kecepatan processor 1600Mhz atau 1.6GHz. Dengan merubah bus pada option BIOS misalnya dari 100Mhz menjadi 133Mhz maka computer akan bekerja dengan kecepatan 2.1GHZ atau 16X133Mhz dengan hasil 2.1Ghz atau 2.128Mhz. Apakah sedemikian mudah melakukan overclock. Betul, hanya dengan cara inilah computer dapat dipacu dan sedemikian mudahnya seseorang melakukan overclocking.</p>

<p style="line-height:150%;"><strong><span style="font-size:14pt;line-height:150%;">c.<span> </span>Berapa Mahal Dari Biaya Overclock?</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Biaya overclock bisa bervariasi. Bila anda melakukan overclock sebuah computer yang tidak terlalu tinggi, misalnya dengan mempercepat laju processor menjadi 10% atau 20% lebih cepat. Mungkin anda tidak memerlukan biaya tambahan. Perubahan hanya dilakukan pada BIOS saja.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Contoh anda mengunakan procesor 1.6Ghz, lalu memacu menjadi 2.1Ghz. Dengan heatsink standard, pada kecepatan tersebut masih diposisikan aman bagi computer dan dapat dilakukan dengan mudah.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Tetapi bila dilakukan overclock cukup tinggi, misalnya diatas 25%, umumnya akan muncul kendala terjadi pada panas processor. Karena disain heatsink standard sebagai pendingin processor dibuat terbatas untuk kecepatan tertentu. Kendala pada panas processor dapat diperbaiki dengan menganti heatsink non standard. Dengan heatsink non standard maka processor terhindar dari hang atau malfunction karena terlalu panas bekerja. Atau dibantu pada sirkulasi udara didalam untuk memperbaiki sistem pendingin computer.</p>

Bila anda melakukan overclock pada processor saja, tanpa memperbaiki perangkat lainnya. Hal ini dapat dikatakan murah. Tetapi bila anda berkeinginan mengoptimalkan seluruh perangkat yang ada, termasuk memory, mainboard premium, VGA top-end, power supply, pendingin bahkan case yang khusus di disain untuk overclocking. Disitulah nilai mahal yang harus disediakan. Karena perangkat khusus yang disediakan memang memiliki kelebihan tersendiri.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Memiliki sebuah computer dengan tingkat hardware paling optimal hampir sama seperti membeli sebuah PC dengan harga 2 buah PC. Contoh saja, dahulu ada seorang pemula menginginkan pendingin yang baik bagi computer karena telah dioverclock. Untuk menghemat dia membeli fan berkecepatan 7.200RPM 80mm akan lebih murah dibandingkan membeli heatsink bagus tetapi lebih mahal. Beberapa hari kemudian, dia kembali menganti heatsink 7.200RPM dengan heatsink baru. Dikatakan , ketika fan dipasangkan didalam case ternyata malah membuat seluruh meja kerjanya ikut bergetar.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Mudah untuk membuat processor agar dapat dioverclock, tetapi dampaknya cukup luas bagi hardware lain. Bila berbicara pada computer yang ada saat ini, melakukan overclock akan berdampak bagi hardware seperti sistem I/O, VGA dan lainnya.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;text-indent:36pt;line-height:150%;">Mengoverclock sebuah processor beberapa MHz juga akan memacu kinerja bagian lain seperti memory, PCIe, PCI dan AGP clock. Dimisalkan usia normal sebuah processor kurang lebih adalah 20 tahun kerja. Tetapi dengan perubahan teknologi yang sangat cepat, maka sebelum 10 tahun dapat dipastikan user telah mengupgrade atau bahkan membeli komputer baru.</p>

<p><span style="color:#0000ff;">Intel unveiled the Xeon 7400 family of server processors, code-named Dunnington, including its first six-core design. The range includes three low-voltage versions, whereas the 7300 range had one, and Intel is claiming "the lowest watts-per-core usage of any device in their category".</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#0000ff;">It's the first microprocessor for the mass market that [Intel] has developed almost exclusively at its design centre in Bangalore in a milestone for the research and development of computer hardware in India.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#0000ff;">"It's not just services and software that India is known for but this shows you also can do this kind of complex research and development and product design here in India," said Praveen Vishakantaiah, president of Intel India.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#0000ff;">AMD is trailing Intel at the 45nm level, and its six-core server processor, code-named Istanbul, isn't expected until next year.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#0000ff;">Intel has already benefited from developing chips outside the US. Its lab in Israel came up with the Banias processor used in the original Centrino design for laptops. Intel then abandoned the US-designed high-clock-speed Pentium NetBurst architecture and switched to the new Core Duo design, Yonah. A six-core chip isn't exactly a novel idea but success should certainly enhance the Bangalore lab's credibility.</span></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>All electronic devices produce heat while they are in use. It is produced due to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joule%27s_laws" target="_blank">Joule's first law</a>, also known as the Joule effect, which is a physical law expressing the relationship between the heat generated by the current flowing through a conductor. The heat generated needs to be removed as soon as possible: if it is too hot, the device can stop working properly and can be permanently damaged. It's plain to see that this is a problem that can't be ignored!<br />

<p>Microprocessors are not an exception and, when affected by heat excess, they can get too hot internally. It is a well-known problem, so manufacturers design processors having the problem in mind, although it's useful to know about it and to monitor the situation. Fortunately, modern programs simplify this task :-) However, there's always an alternative way, usually funnier than the download-install-run method: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diy" target="_blank">DIY</a>!</p>
<p>Having said that, I tried to teach something useful to Ana whilst enjoying Linux. The result was the creation of a simple monitoring <em>program</em> that shows the temperature of the processor every five seconds. This is the recipe:</p>
<ul>
<li>Remember how to obtain the temperature of your processor: "acpi -V".</li>
<li>It's important to refresh it every five seconds, and you'd also like to highlight the differences, so you can use "watch --differences -n=5".</li>
<li>In a parallel word, it's good to create a separate process for this little script... Then your operating system's teacher sits down next to you and reveals you the truth: "xterm -geometry 70x5 -e ...".</li>
<li>Obviously, you prefer to have it running since the very first moment, so it's necessary to add it to the very last login script: "~/.profile", in a typical *Ubuntu installation.</li>
<li>But... wait a moment! You don't want to stall your login process: please, don't forget to run it on the background "&#38;".</li>
</ul>
<p>A quick way to "install" it is to execute this command in a console window:<br />

Sistem operasi ini sebelumnya diberi nama Longhorn sewaktu masih dalam proses development (<a title="Link" href="http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2005/jul05/07-22LHMA.mspx" target="_blank">Link</a>).  Sebagai sistem operasi baru waktu itu, Windows Vista menjanjikan banyak fitur baru untuk menggantikan Windows XP (<a title="Link" href="http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2780" target="_blank">Link</a>).</p>
<p>Windows Vista membawa sedikit masalah dalam paket rilisnya  (<a title="Link" href="http://www.pcworld.com/article/140583-5/the_15_biggest_tech_disappointments_of_2007.html" target="_blank">Link</a>). Di samping kebutuhan hardware yang tinggi, Windows Vista juga berjalan lebih lambat dibandingkan Windows versi sebelumnya, dan juga memiliki beberapa masalah technical (<a title="Link" href="http://www.techworld.com/opsys/news/index.cfm?newsid=8480" target="_blank">Link</a>).</p>
<p>Tetapi Windows Vista tetap baik untuk dimiliki karena Windows Vista memiliki beberapa fitur yang tidak dimiliki versi lain, antara lain :</p>

<li>Windows Aero: yaitu tampilan grafis antarmuka yang lebih bersih, lebih estetis, dan lebih indah dipandang.</li>
