Konsertens andra hälft låg några BPM lägre och då blev det med ens riktigt dansvänligt. Jag hoppade som en liten galning och blev för några minuter bästa vän med en man i publiken som hade konstig hempermanent och dansade bredvid. Vem som dansade bäst av honom och mig? Som den gentleman jag är säger jag förstås att det var han.

As a way of total respect for the guys in Heavy Load , Sham 69 have asked them to perform at the upcoming That’s Life’ show at the Astoria on 18th October 2008 in which Sham 69 will be performing their successful chart album ‘That’s Life’ on stage.

The show will also feature special guests, including female fronted punk rock band The Duel and other special guests.

This completely one off show will be a true reflection of how punk has stayed true to its form with such a concert as this.

The Album that was also shown as part of the BBC’s award winning programme arena, has spawned an unlikely success in the form of Grant Fleming who featured on the original album playing the character of Joe Public, went on to become an award winning photographer for such bands as Primal Scream and now endangers himself with every click on the battle fronts of Iraq and Afghanistan.

So for a night of unbridled punk passion and power, come along to the Astoria Charing Cross Sat 18th October.

Paul Weller ha preparado una caja especial con 4 CDs que contienen rarezas y cortes en directo que abarcan su dilatada carrera musical en solitario, al margen de The Jam, y que saldrá a la venta el próximo 3 de noviembre.

Weller At The BBC recoge 74 canciones grabadas durante unas exclusivas sesiones para la BBC entre 1990 y 2008.

Entre ese material se encuentran versiones de What's Going On de  Marvin Gaye y Wishing On A Star de Rose Royce.

Noel Gallagher (Oasis) aparece en una versión en directo del I Walk On Gilded Splinters de Dr John.

También incluye una versión nunca publicada de The Poacher de Ronnie Lane, grabada en la BBC Radio 1's Evening Session en 1997, y grabaciones de Weller en el Phoenix Festival en 1995.

Noel Gallagher, Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) y Tim Burgess (The Charlatans) han sido entrevistados para un libro de 64 páginas que acompaña a los CDs.

1) Franz Ferdinand - Lucid Dreams

Ho già segnalato un "vecchio" successo dei Franz Ferdinand un paio di volumi fa...stavolta vi parlo di un altro loro brano uscito di recente. "Lucid Dreams" è una gustosa anteprima di quello che sarà il loro terzo album (se non erro)...l'assaggio è veramente niente male. Riff accattivante e rapido, suoni caldi ed il loro inconfondibile stile. Adesso aspettiamo l'album.

2) Primal Scream - Suicide Bomb

L'ultimo album dei Primal Scream mi piace molto. Pur restando lungo un binario strettamente rockeggiante i Primal riescono a contaminare il loro brani con sonorità originali e melodie mai banali. "Suicide Bomb" è una canzone potente e ben riuscita...ritmo cadenzato, riverberi a palla e riff in "corto circuito". Direi che il gruppo è decisamente in forma.

3) Caesar Palace - 1NE

Diciamo che c'è molto "Gorillaz" nell'idea di questo nuovo progetto nato dalla mente di Boosta (Subsonica), Dade e Tozzo (Linea 77). I tre musicisti si proiettano direttamente in tre cupi personaggi animati che rappresentano la copertina di sound elettro-rock a tratti oscuro ed ipnotico. Il risultato è assai apprezzabile.

Fico na dúvida se prefiro a versão do Primal Scream para 'Some Velvet Morning' ou se fico com a original, na voz de Nancy Sinatra.

Nancy chamou Lee Hazlewood para cantar os primeiros versos; ela preferiu falar de flores, narcisos e segredos. Enquanto o grupo escocês compartilhou a letra e não dividiu estrofes. Pra completar, eles ainda intimaram a super-fuckin-model Kate Moss para sussurrar sobre flores, narcisos e segredos; além de Kate ser a musa no videoclipe, a tal Phaedra.

Nesse caso, escolher entre Nancy e Primal é uma dúvida nada suave.

Bila kita menelusuri wikipedia, untuk mencoba mencari tahu termasuk ke dalam genre apakah band asal Glasgow, Skotlandia ini, maka yang tertera di sana adalah: Alternative Rock, Indie Pop, House, Techno, dan Acid House. Genre Pop murni tidak tercantum di sana, sehingga ketika NME mengkoinkan frase kalau “Beautiful Future” adalah pop album Primal Scream, kita tidak tahu apakah harus mengenyitkan dahi skeptis kita, atau berteriak kegirangan karena inilah satu-satunya elemen yang belum kita dapatkan dari Primal Scream.

Senyum tipis di sudut bibir kita mulai tampak ketika nada pertama titel track album ini terdengar di panca pendengaran kita. Sebagai lagu yang membuka sebuah album “Beautiful Future” sangat menjajikan. Keriangan Bobby Gillespie menyanyikan lagu ini dapat dirasakan seperti pastinya matahari pagi terbit mengawali sebuah hari. Lagu ini, kemudian disusul oleh “Can’t Go Back” yang diambil sebagai single pertama dari album ini. Terdengar sangat agresif sekaligus seksi, menaikkan kecerahan album ini ke tingkat berikutnya. Lentingan Gillespie yang diselimuti oleh akselerasi riff rok ‘n’ rol yang bisa dibilang menjadi ciri khas Primal Scream, melebarkan senyuman tersebut memenuhi bibir kita.

Diproduseri oleh Paul Epworth (manusia yang bertanggung jawab atas debut album mengagumkan dari Bloc Party dan Maximo Park) serta Björn Yttling dari Peter Bjorn and John, “Beautiful Future” mulai membuktikan dirinya tidak perlu ditakuti setelah 2 lagu pertama. Karena sesuatu bernama pop itu bukanlah sebuah aib yang harus dihindari.

“Uptown” mengingatkan kita pada ketukan ritem dari tahun 80-an, dalam hal yang sangat positif. Di sini, pengaruh dub dan house Primal Scream dari era “Screamadelica” seperti kembali walaupun dalam lingkup yang masih sangat prematur. “The Glory Of Love” melanjutkan kurs tersebut, kali ini dilengkapi dengan sentuhan tepukan tangan yang membuat kita merasa setiap jalan yang kita tapaki adalah lantai dansa pribadi kita.

Primal Scream di album ini mencoba dengan sangat keras untuk menantang publik, kalau sesuatu bernama pop bisa dikemas dalam hal lain. “Beautiful Summer” adalah salah satu contohnya. Yang menjadi signifikan dalam album ini adalah seberapa jauh mereka sedang/sudah bereksperiman dengan suara yang mereka hasilkan, pada akhirnya nada jugalah yang memegang kendali. Hampir setiap lagu, mempunyai setiap nada yang mudah diingat, dan mungkin akan disiulkan di sebuah cerahnya hari. Itu adalah kunci lagu pop yang berisi, dan “Beautiful Summer” mempunyainya. Primal Scream memainkan itu dengan sangat handal, di saat kita terbuai dengan nada-nada pop tersebut, yang di album ini juga dibantu dengan suara feminin Lovefoxx (di lagu “I Love to Hurt (You Love to Be Hurt)”) dan seorang legenda folk Linda Thompson (di lagu “Over & Over”), mereka kemudian mengingatkan pendengarnya, kalau mereka masih punya kemampuan menghantarkan riff akselerasi rok ‘n’ rol bagai sebuah pisau bedah menyayat kulit manusia, seperti yang difiturkan oleh “Necro Hex Blues”.

Ketika menghantarkan “XTRMNTR” di tahun 2000, Bobby Gillespie secara pribadi merasakan sesuatu yang buruk akan segera terjadi. Dan ia benar, karena setelah 09/11 segalanya tidak pernah sama lagi di planet ini. 7 tahun berikutnya, ia menamakan album band yang ia komandoi dengan judul “Beautiful Future”, dan bila semua orang berpikir secerah, seindah dan seoptimis lagu-lagu di album ini, sepertinya itu semua akan segera terjadi.

It is true that the game servers have been running smoothly in the EU, for those (mostly CB testers) who were able to access them. This is A Good Thing. Just it doesn't tell us much about how they will run under a higher load. Hopefully we'll know more about that by the end of the week.

Make no mistake, the people who decide to give EU WAR a miss based on that experience will not mostly be buying US versions. It's a hassle to do that from here. They'll just go play something else. Some will let other people be the guinea-pigs for the first couple of months and then decide, others won't look back. I don't have the heart for a full-scale rant, like Arbitrary I'm just very disappointed.

WHA also comes out of this very badly indeed. Aside from being hammered into near-oblivion, it became such a hotbed of teh crazy yesterday that even MJ commented on the general level of nerd rage and I think we know where he was reading it from.  I know I'm not going back to WHA unless I have no choice now, Freddyshouse was a relative beacon of civilisation in comparison. And much as I love the guys there, that isn't a phrase I ever expected to use in anger. I would advise everyone who found WHA to be a madhouse to check out other forums -- there are perfectly viable alternatives.

So:

1/ GOA screwed up. Their current latest update from their CEO (see previous post) says that the authentication database issue still isn't solved. There was a note from the team earlier that they planned to let the DB chunter through the backlog and then close it down for maintenance with a plan to be running again late Monday morning. We'll see.

2/ If you don't like the tone of one forum, pick another. News will get around.

3/ Game servers are running fine if you can get authentication sorted out. We will have to see how they run under a heavier load.

4/ There's a full week of Open Beta left to run. It's not over until it's over. If they can fix this and prove that they fixed it, it's not an unrecoverable situation.

5/ Try primal scream therapy. It's free.

6/ If you read down to the bottom, you deserve a tip. War Lions can now be named. It's /petname <name>

No longer did I have to worry about short intros and outros and mismatching beats, because I could re-edit my own versions of songs I wanted. And once I started saving loops and samples of my favourite parts of records, I could start remixing them from the bottom up in a live situation - using a drum loop from one place, bassline from anoter, an acapella from a third track, and so on. I added a midi controller to operate the volume and EQ levels for up to sixteen tracks simultaneously, and that was all I needed - I didn't even need headphones because I had a  graphic representation of the song in front of me and could see the breakdowns etc and even mark where elements of a song began and ended.

Finally, I realised that I could also mix anything in 4/4 time very easily. With Ableton you set a beat marker at the start of a bar and one at the end, and then just tell it how long to take to get from one marker to the next. So if I had a record at 120bpm, I could simply set the master tempo for 125bpm (for example) and Ableton took care of the time-stretching and key - no more speeded up records sounding like Mickey Mouse!

The Shenanigans series of mixes was born out of a desire to see how much I could push myself using Ableton - whether I could mix rock, dance, hip-hop, r&b and pop as seamlessly as I could mix dance records together. This mix, Shenanigans 01, is my very first attempt at doing that. I deliberately picked as varied a selection as I could, so in this mix you have Ocean Colour Scene and The Sugarhil gang mixed together as an opening pair, and artists that feature later include Korn and Girls Aloud, Linkin Park and Elvis Costello, Deep Dish and Elvis Presley, and so on.

I've split the mix into different parts to make it easier to download and find your favourite bits later. You should download all eight parts, then play them in order with no gaps between the tracks in order to get the full effect. If you put them on your iPod or press then to a CD, make sure you don't have gaps between the tracks!

 "F---ing hell, a giraffe in a dress. Nice one."

Bass player Gary "Mani" Mounfield of Primal Scream reacts to the sight of Elle McPherson at the GQ Men of the Year Awards.

El nuevo disco, que supone el cuarto del grupo en su carrera, es una pequeña maravilla, para los que les guste la música y el estilo de The Verve, la gran cantidad de matices de sus canciones requiere una escucha detallada de cada una de ellas, pequeños detalles de producción que hacen que podamos descubrir nuevos sonidos debajo de las tradicionales guitarras o sintetizadores. Y es que mantienen intacto ese sello pseudopsicodélico de atmosferas evanescentes con el que comenzaron en el mundo de la música y que llegaron a hacerles famosos con el disco "Urban Hymns".

A veces suenan parecidos a otros grupos, en algún momento son capaces de recordar a The Cure con bastante fuerza, pero tienen su propio estilo y su música y sus canciones resultan inconfundibles. Muy diferentes a otros miembros de su generación como Primal Scream, Charlatans, Placebo o Ride.

Es un disco que aburrirá a los que el grupo les parece aburrido y hará las delicias de los que ya han escuchado su música en alguna ocasión y estaban deseosos de conocer lo que este nuevo lanzamiento podía brindar, el single "Love is noise" puede ser un buen ejemplo de ello o la primera canción del disco "Sit and wonder", una de las mejores del album sin ninguna duda.

Lily Allen and Elton John (pictured above in a Zak Hussein photo for PA Wire) belittled each other while co-hosting the GQ Men of the Year Awards in London on September 2nd. According to an article about the event in today's edition of The Times of London:

When Allen told the audience at London's Royal Opera House "now we reach a very special point in the evening", Sir Elton replied: "What, you are going to have another drink?"

Allen, dressed demurely in a full-length ball gown, responded: "F*** off Elton, I'm 40 years younger than you, I have my whole life ahead of me."

John reportedly told Allen, “I could still snort you under the table.” Not very becoming words for someone with the title of Sir, IMHO.

Allen also blew the cover on her actor brother Alfie's plans to marry actress Jamie Winstone, the daughter of British film tough guy Ray Winstone. Alfie and Jamie had managed to keep their wedding plans private until Lily's revelation.

Lily Allen also said of the 82-year-old Tony Bennett, “I’ll still f*** him.”

I hope that Lily Allen's upcoming second album is great. She has already lost ground to Kate Nash, Adele, and Duffy, and being better known for boorish public behavior than for her music isn't a great career move. Lily can ask Amy Winehouse about that one.

Although Lily Allen and Elton John provided the UK press with quite a few quotes to run in today's papers, the best comment from the GQ Awards has to go to Primal Scream's bassist, Mani, who, upon spotting award presenter and quite tall supermodel Elle Machpherson, exclaimed, “F****** hell, a giraffe in a dress. Nice one.”

I'm still laughing at that one.

Nuova York è stata svoltosissima. Non ho alcun particolare scottante da rivelare ai miei 4 annoiati lettori, nessuna bollente rivelazione, poche sfavillanti novità e alcuni tiepidi aggiornamenti che per la loro natura professionale mi riservo di non rivelare su questi lidi. In ogni caso posso dire di essere ritornata carica come una molla, motivata, scoppiettante e ottimista verso il futuro che ci attende. Pertanto è probabile che sin che non mi passerà questo stato vagamente euforico possa essere ancora più insopportabile del solito. Portate pazienza, per favore. D'altra parte ho avuto, per un attimo, una diapositiva del mio avvenire davanti agli occhi (eccola lì sotto) ed è comprensibile che sia tutt'ora fibrillante. In realtà nulla è cambiato, per ora, ma lo farà. Inoltre, ho comprato un sacco di vestiti nuovi.

Ciò che si vede da un certo ufficio di nyc.

Gettando alle ortiche gli ermetismi, passiamo alle cose pratiche: finalmente è finita l'estate.

Era ora. E con questo, significa che finalmente la nostra agenda si infittisce di impegni che vanno oltre al fare la marmellata di susine con la mamma sotto al portico, andare all'esselunga a prendere il fresco insieme ai vecchi e vagare per le città con la sola compagnia delle minoranze etniche più facinorose. Fortunatamente non ho fatto nessuna di queste cose, ma non è questo il punto.

Stringendo, ecco il calendario per i prossimi, fulgidi tempi:

6, 7, 8 Settembre all'Idroscalo: Magnolia Parade. Non ne possiamo più di stare fermi e una 3 (nel nostro caso, 2 visto che il primo è proprio poco invitante) giorni di dènsflor aggressivo e pimpante è senza dubbio alcuno ciò di cui avevamo bisogno. Tra Bloody Beetroots, Goose, Vitalic e qui quo qua sono già tutta un bollore danzereccio. Chi manca è gonzo.
Il 14 Settembre mano ai fazzoletti, c'è The Niro al Rolling Stone (ne sono quasi sicura). Non me lo perderei mai, mai e poi mai.
Il 15, volendo, ci sono i Baustelle alla festa dell'umidità a Milano. Dovrei riflettere se i Baustelle siano un motivo valido per presentarsi a una festa dell'umidità. Sono sicura di no, ma probabilmente saremo molto annoiati e andremo. Anzi no!, non andremo, perchè mi accorgo ora che la stessa sera c'è Steve Aoki al Rocket. L'ho perso in dicembre, non lo perderò questa volta. Spero.
Sempre in quel buco fumoso del Rocket, che ci regala sempre tante emozioni, due giorni dopo saranno i Classic Education. Che è un po' come mettere il tartufo sulla simmenthal, ma tant'è.
Il 26 momenti di gioia (e tempeste di ricordi) con i Primal Scream all'Alcatraz, e il primo ottobre i Notwist al Musicdrome. Se dio vuole riesco a vederli, era ora!
Venerdì 3 al Covo c'è Styrofoam, per chi ci era rimasto sotto coi Postal Service, tipo me. E soprattutto per chi è in crisi d'astinenza da Covo, tipo me.
E il 3 novembre, alla Casa 139, gli M83. Che bello!
Concludo questo calendario di passione con la bomba della giornata (l'ho scoperto or ora): OLAFUR ARNALDS suonerà il 16 novembre al mattatoio di Carpi. Vorrei sapere chi è il responsabile di questa cosa splendida per mandargli mazzi di fiori e scatole di cioccolatini per i prossimi due mesi. Inizierò a piangere adesso per mettermi avanti, credo. GRAZIE!!!

Una parentesi a parte per un paio di cose: in occasione del Milano Film Festival, di cui la signorina Claudia è gentile promotrice e organizzatrice nonostante le avversità, avremo non uno, non due, non tre, non quattro, non cinque ma forse addirittura sei (6) eventi incredibilmente fighini. Uno: i København Store suoneranno la sera dell'apertura in Sempione, il 12 settembre. Due e tre: i Vancouver, che amo con tutto il cuore, e i Japanese Gum, che apprezzo discretamente, si esibiranno nel corso del festival, ma non so ne' dove ne' quando (Cloud, illuminaci). Quattro e cinque: TORNANO LE FAVE! (dove e come, vedi sopra). E subito dopo il loro set parte della Sidechain Massacre Crew, cioè i Pelussje e io accanto a loro che come al solito pigerò qualche bottone a caso, avrà il piacere di intrattenere il pubblico fuori dal Piccolo Teatro il 18 sera con un dj set molto perbene. La sesta non ho mica capito se è confermata per cui non posso dirla, mi sa.

Sicuramente mi sono dimenticata qualcosa, ma pazienza. Ricordatemelo, che lo aggiungo.

Ah ho anche deciso che mi fidanzo, e so anche con chi.
Lui no però.
Vi farò sapere com'è andata.
