  - Thunderbird is also useful for sending e-mail via Gmail without browser. Actually it can send through free Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail accounts using Webmail extension, but the campus does not allow SMTP [as well as POP/IMAP].
  - Somehow themes do not work in my campus's computer. Perhaps because the theme file format is *.jar, which requires some Java API.
• Sunbird Portable,
  I want to see my Google Calendar without using any web browser!

• Pidgin Portable,
  - I can chat using Gmail, Yahoo, and Windows Live accounts at the same time. But the file transfer only works in Windows Live, I guess...

In iSync (that program that used to manage a lot of your stuff until most of its tasks got separated into other programs and we all kinda forgot about) there’s a feature that lets you enable iSync on a Palm device (pictured below).

 After you click on the option in the menu bar iSync will set up everything for you. It’s amazingly simple and painless. 

After its all set up you can select what calendars and contacts you’d like to sync with iSync, then everything on your palm with be in sync with iCal (even to-do’s) and Address Book. You don’t have to do anything after that, when you sync your palm pilot with Hot Sync, iSync will do everything on its own, you don’t need to start anything. There are also a ton of different applications you can find on the web (and on Palm’s online store) to put on your Palm device and help you mobilize and synchronize your life even more. One application that came with my handheld, which I highly recommend, is Documents to Go (found here) which lets you take your Word documents and Excel Documents with you. The only downside to this app is that it crashes if you export from Pages. If you don’t have Microsoft Word on your computer than you can choose to use Bean as an alternative (which is what I’ve been using to write some of these articles on the go) and it works great (check out the review here). Even thought the iPhone can view documents like this app can, it still can’t edit them. I, personally, use Palm’s Tungsten E2, but Palm also has a few other options out.

In light of Colby's comment in yesterday's post and the coming University year, I realized that, for months at a time, I won't be able to look at my lovely notes on the wall or tap away on my five year old desk or wheel to shelves in an orange chair. Starting August, my whole environment will change.

Does my writing corner have to change too?

No. It doesn't.

Most of what my space contains can remain. The essentials, though, come with me; I need a few favorite books that can be both helpful and enjoyable. Notebooks, both empty and in use, are portable but I won't need to take everything. I place my files in an already portable box; folders, utensils, index cards, and desk organizers won't be a problem to transport or buy.

Although, I won't have my familiar surroundings, I can still transform the basics—desk, chair, and walls—into a new writing corner. Gradually, the blank wall will be covered with Post-Its and other tidbits. New places mean new bookstores (and a closer library). Posters will be taped up, and my computer situated.

The important thing is to make some place, be it small or large, comfortable to write in. But this is not limited to traditional rooms.

No matter where I am, I'll create a space that breathes Write. I believe we all do: in a hotel room or in a cafe or in the library, we angle our computer a certain way, place our pens on a certain side, position our paper sideways, and place our cups a distance away. We create our own writing atmosphere.

However, I also believe having a drawer or corner where you can put files or folders can be helpful when you're looking to be published.
