Now the Van man has formed a brand spankin' new band; Sweethead. Along for the ride are Serrina Sims, Norm Block and Eddie Nappi.

Serrina Sims appears on Queens of the Stone Age’s song Make It Wit Chu, providing backing vocals, and Norm Block featured in 90’s rock outfit Plexi and also appeared with Riot Grrl act Jack Off Jill, supplying live drums. As well as Sims and Block, Van Leeuwen has brought along his bassist mate Eddie Nappi, from their former band Enemy. Nappi also played in the Mark Lanegan band.

So the Sweethead kids have the rock runs on the board, ‘how is the music?’ I hear you ask.

Oh it’s good. Real good. It has the sexy grooves that QotSA made their own, as well as Serrina Sims’ saucy vocal stylings. And if the tracks featured on their Myspace page are anything to go by, their tour commencing late next month as well as their impending album (slated for a release [northen hemispherically] “late this summer/early fall”) should be something to look forward to. At this stage, it appears that Sweethead are only gigging round Europe and the U.K. though.

On an entirely unrelated note….

Well I could make up a lame segue, but why bother.

Smashing Pumpkins’ song 'The Beginning Is The End Is The Beginning' is being featured in the trailer for the upcoming movie Watchmen. As a result, the song, which is also on the soundtrack to the 1997 film, Batman and Robin (along with sister song 'The End Is The Beginning Is The End'), is now the #1 most downloaded Pumpkins song on iTunes and is currently the #37^th most downloaded song in any category.

Watchmen director Zack Snyder, who’s credits include sword and sandal epic ‘300’, says that the song “will create controversy” and will also speak “a little to the Watchmen world” despite the movie (and comic on which it is based) being set in 1985.

Deb ("The Pumpkin")

Deb and I bought a church in mid 2006 and are working to turn it into a home.

It was a "Nazarene" church, and as part of their outlook, there wasn't anything fancy about the building. No stained glass, per se, just some yellow "rippled" glass panes that probably served to keep the congregation focused on the proceedings inside.

Well, early in 2007, Glasgow experienced a hailstorm with baseball sized hail, and it took out all of our west-facing windows. And I mean completely. If you'd like your windows broken, three or four minutes of consistently baseball sized hail has few peers in efficiency. So anyway, we boarded 'em up, insulated them, and resolved to get to them later.

Well, later is here, at least, for our bathroom spa window, it is. Deb spent two months of evenings down in her workshop putting together that beauty; I spent three days learning how to frame it into the old window casement, and what you see here is how the window looks inside the spa by the bath (our bath is in its own room, separate from the other fixtures.) You can see the tree branches outside just a little bit during the day, but it isn't distracting:

We plan to do all the windows this way. Other than the huge amount of time, which Deb seems more than willing to contribute, this is a very inexpensive way to do windows. We're looking at about $100 per window for double layered, sealed single acrylic panes, including all the woodwork, which I do. The building has 13 huge windows, most are about six feet tall; we'll have all manner of opportunity to do cool things, and at very little expense compared to standard window treatments.

We work with many high profile artists from all over the country to create a piece for them to display in their galleries. 

Urządzając własną kuchnię kilka lat temu, zastanawiałam się nad tym, co położyć na ścianę pomiędzy meblami. Ponieważ nie miałam zbyt dużego wyboru i czasu, położyłam najprostsze płytki ceramiczne, jakie udało mi się dostać w pobliskim markecie budowlanym. Nie pomyślałabym o ich zmianie, gdyby nie ostatnie projekty kuchni. Od tego czasu właściwie ciągle zastanawiam się co z nimi zrobić i pewnie dobrze, bo dzięki temu odświeżę co nieco wygląd mojej kuchni.

Dziś pokażę Ci jak możesz odmienić wygląd kuchni zmieniając jedynie ścianę nad blatem pomiędzy meblami. Zajmie Ci to niecały dzień i nie wydasz na to więcej niż 200 pln.
Będziesz potrzebować

Tapetę samoprzylepną ( wybierz wzór, kolor, który Ci się podoba)

Duży arkusz papieru lub tektury, aby zrobić szablon/wzór.

Szkło akrylowe nazywane też pleksiglas, pleksi dostępne w marketach budowlanych, u szklarza czy u producentów okien. Może być w różnych kolorach i wzorach w zależności od producenta.

Śruby do ściany i zaślepki.

Wykonanie

1. Zmierz długość ściany, która chcesz zmienić. Przenieś te wymiary na papier i wytnij szablon.
   Postaraj się to zrobić bardzo dokładnie, ponieważ od tego wzornika wykroisz płytę z plexi.
2. Przenieś wymiary i kształt ściany z wzornika na płytę z plexi (najlepiej odrysuj sobie wzór zmywalnym mazakiem) i utnij właściwe wymiary. Możesz to zrobić ostrym nożem do szkła. Jesli obawiasz się, że nie poradzisz sobie z cięciem plexi, zanieś płytę do szklarza, niech wytnie ją za ciebie. Jeśli po wycięciu, krawędzie są poszarpane, możesz je wygładzić papierem ściernym.
3. Przymierz wycięta płytę z plexi do ściany na której ma wisieć. Jeśli pasuje, wywierć otwory na śruby w rogach płyty.
4. Czas na tapetę. Wytnij kwadraty o bokach 10 x 10 cm. Tutaj możesz poeksperymentować. Możesz wyciąć inne kształty czy wielkość, możesz też dobrać inne kolory.
5. Odklej papier z wyciętych kwadratów i przyklej je do ściany. Zostaw odstep około 3-4 milimetry, aby storzyć efekt fug.
6. Po przyklejeniu kwadratów, za pomocą śrub, przykręć wyciętą plexi do ściany, a otwory zakryj zaślepkami.

Bogata oferta producentów daje ogromny wybór wzorów, kolorów, faktur, materiałów od kamienia, glazury, drewna, paneli, tapet, laminatu poprzez szkło, aluminium na blasze kończąc. Każdy z nas ma też swoje własne pomysły, dzięki, którym kuchnia jest niepowtarzalna.

Jeśli macie większy budżet na ścianę, oto kilka projektów kuchni, w których wykorzystano zarówno nowe materiały jak i te tradycyjne.
