Akhirnya ada waktu juga untuk nulis review lanjutan ini. Sebelumnya saya mo cerita dulu, tadi pagi saya hampir miss deadline karena ada tabrakan antara truk fuso dengan taxi di tol Wiyoto Wiyono, hanya gara-gara sebuah email yang harus saya kirim ke client sebelum jam 8 pagi untuk bahan meeting mereka, kerjaan yang semalem saya lemburin nyaris ngga terkirim, berkat sms dari salah satu pendengar Hardrock FM yang mengabarkan kecelakaan ini, saya memutuskan untuk keluar di exit Tol Pedati dan berhenti di salah satu pencucian mobil dan lanjut naik ojek!, karena saya yakin dampak kecelakaan akan memacetkan tol layang maupun jalan arteri hingga sunter.

7.30 akhirnya sampe kantor, karena ojeker Jakarta benar-benar berjiwa MotoGP. Jam 7.35 email terkirim tanpa hambatan, nanti selesai sholat jumat mobil saya ambil karena saya takut kemacetan dampak kecelakaan pasti masih akan terus berlanjut hingga siang nanti.

Right now I’m having to manage to live without the iPhone (because right now I just can’t afford the phone or the plan), however it is possible to manage without it - while mobilizing your life and keeping it all in sync. First, lets look at the equipment: I have a cell phone, a PDA, and finally a Cell Phone.

So first we have the cell phone, in the iPhone its definitely a core component (after all it is the iPhone), nonetheless any phone will do the same phone functions that the iPhone does (except visual voice mail) and in most cases - more (like MMS). As great as the iPhone is there are benefits to not using the iPhone as a phone, to put it simply; with other phones you have a TON more freedom. With the iPhone you’re virtually stuck with AT&T (or whatever carrier the iPhone is sold for in your country). Most phones do have internet, unfortunately to the iPhones advantage they only offer that dreadful “mobile internet.” Still with the increasing amount of people wanting to surf the web on the go, an increasing number of websites are creating mobile versions for normal cellphones. These mobile versions aren’t stunning, but they definitely get the job done. One word of caution though, check with your carrier to see how much they charge for data, it might be cheaper to go with an unlimited data plan. So getting a regular cell phone might not only be cheaper for you, but better suited to your needs.

The next piece of equipment that the iPhone “replaces” is the PDA (Personal Digital Assistant). The two subcategories underneath the PDA umbrella are Palm Pilots and Pocket PC’s. However, since this is primarily an OS X focused blog and I haven’t spent much time with Pocket PC’s, I’m just going to be looking at Palm Pilots in this article. The only downside to Palm is that their software feels kind of outdated and old, but besides that it does what it needs to and even a bit more. Setting up your palm is pretty simple, but there’s a feature within Mac OS X that helps you keep all your stuff in sync. In iSync (that program that used to manage a lot of your stuff until most of its tasks got separated into other programs and we all kinda forgot about) there’s a feature that lets you enable iSync on a Palm device (pictured below).

 After you click on the option in the menu bar iSync will set up everything for you. It’s amazingly simple and painless. 

After its all set up you can select what calendars and contacts you’d like to sync with iSync, then everything on your palm with be in sync with iCal (even to-do’s) and Address Book. You don’t have to do anything after that, when you sync your palm pilot with Hot Sync, iSync will do everything on its own, you don’t need to start anything. There are also a ton of different applications you can find on the web (and on Palm’s online store) to put on your Palm device and help you mobilize and synchronize your life even more. One application that came with my handheld, which I highly recommend, is Documents to Go (found here) which lets you take your Word documents and Excel Documents with you. The only downside to this app is that it crashes if you export from Pages. If you don’t have Microsoft Word on your computer than you can choose to use Bean as an alternative (which is what I’ve been using to write some of these articles on the go) and it works great (check out the review here). Even thought the iPhone can view documents like this app can, it still can’t edit them. I, personally, use Palm’s Tungsten E2, but Palm also has a few other options out.

Then finally we have the iPod, there’s not really a whole lot to say about getting an iPod instead of an iPhone, except its difference in storage and price. So those are just a few tips on how you can live without the iPhone, even though its still an amazing and revolutionary product, we don’t all have to have it.

Possédant de nombreuses options le rendant paramétrable à souhait, il deviendra vite un compagnon indispensable lors de vos déplacements. Il est en plus compatible avec la base de donnée de radars gpspassion !

Son fonctionnement est très simple; le seul inconvénient est que c'est à vous de lui dire quelle est la vitesse à ne pas dépasser sur la route sur laquelle vous roulez; mais on s'y fait vite ^^

En ce qui me concerne je l'utilise surtout parce que le compteur de ma voiture déraille par moments et m'indique n'importe quoi. Une fois VL synchronisé avec des satellites, il suffit de lui indiquer la vitesse à ne pas dépasser, et vous serez avertis par un signal lumineux et/ou sonore (il est possible de désactiver les alertes sonores) lorsque vous dépasserez cette vitesse de plus de 1 km/h (vitesse dépassée) ou de plus de 10 km/h (vitesse excessive).

Je ferai plus tard un article plus complet avec plus de détails sur l'utilisation de ce logiciel que je trouve indispensable pour tout utilisateur de PDA avec fonction GPS.

• Mensaje de error luego de la sincronización “DataMgr.c Line: 8878” y no cargaba el J9 en la palm.
• VSFDBCache.c, Line: 4051, unattached record
• Carga el J9 pero al querer configurarlo en la Palm recibía “Fatal Exception” o la pantalla se quedaba pegada o colgada.

Porque se da este error:

La KVM de java tiene un algoritmo para liberar memoria y reservarla para otros objetos que no desfragmenta la memoria utilizada y como que llega a saturar los espacios de memoria, como no encuentra memoria intenta escribir en la ROM como ya sabemos que no es posible y lanzara el error “DataMgr.c....”.
El problema de este algoritmo es que no relaciona espacios de memoria libres, aunque sean vecinos, y por lo tanto produce una gran fragmentación de la memoria.
Una de las sugerencias es liberar todos los espacios de memoria y apuntarlos a null o en su defecto si son enteros encerarlos para ayudar de cierta manera el Garbage Collector.

Solución:

• Realizar un warm reset y luego un software reset

Que es lo que se logra con este warm reset o tambien conocido como software reset es evitar que al reiniciar no cargue las extensiones (los hacks, programas gestores de hacks, parches del SO, preferencias e alamas, etc). Entonces evitaremos que todo lo que haya estado ocupando este programa no se cargue y como que de cierto modo se libere todo sus consumos de memoria.

Si tiene dudas de como se hace un hard reset o un warm reset lo puedes ver en la sección Palm de este blog además de algunos estrategias para desarrollar aplicaciones J2ME y optimizar el recurso de memoria.

A little bird told me that the first shipment of the Omnia will arrive in Malaysia within 2 weeks and will be immediately shipped to the key retailers.  Best time will be early August after the PC Fair in KL, probably week of 4th August.  The price is yet to be fixed at the time of writing but I suspect it should be...

... hovering around the RM2,500 region. My guess is that the early launch price can be as high as RM2,800 (16GB) but I suspect RM2,300 to RM2,488 (8GB) will be a very good price for the Omnia here in Malaysia.  My wish is for the 8GB to hit just below RM2,000.  Let's see how close my prediction is to the actual street price when the time comes.  The Singapore launch price was S$1,098.  I reckon the Omnia will be priced comparable to the parallel imported 16GB iPhones.

It is most probable that the Omnia will not be bundled with any memory card since there's ample storage inside. The initial launch model comes with 16GB of Internal Memory.  The 8GB model may not be launched at the same time depending on the availability by Samsung.

The retailers will look to bundling a bluetooth headset, screen protector and possibly some protective casing or pouch.  We'll see in about a week's time what the latest plan will be.

If you are keen to track it down when the Omnia is launched in Malaysia, the first batches will find its way to the retailers who currently sells PDA Phones.  Watch them closely.  I'm sure you want to buy from someone who can support you after the sale.  There are not many around.  It is advisable to make good friends with these retailers for better support.  Some of them have gotten quite savvy in Windows Mobile devices given that many has ventured into the market with O2, Dopod and HTC.  All major malls where there are PDA Phone retailers are your target to hunt down the Omnia in 2 weeks time.

I've been doing some thinking, but in the meantime, check out this thorough post by Daniel over at Roughly Drafted on how the Newton came to be, how it failed to fully realize Sculley's vision, and how Apple may, indeed, come up with the next big platform that could set all our devices free.

"The original intent of the Newton project was not to design a PDA, but to deliver a new tablet-based computer that would leap over the existing Mac user interface," he says.

Everyone says how the Newton was a great idea, maybe ahead of its time, not really marketable, too darned big, and so on. It seems to me the Newton, along with the iPhone, iPod, and software like iChat, the idea behind an all-encompassing device that does everything from schedule meetings to video conference has already come to pass. The MessagePad may have just been the first match to light the fuse.

Says Daniel:

The Newton actually suffered from a number of fatal flaws; some of its issues relate to Apple's new platform, which promises to solve many of the same issues that Newton was intended to cover. The main problem with the Newton was in its hardware execution: turning the concepts behind it into a product that could sell.

I teamed up with a good friend from the army, Assaf Kezurer - a Microsoft MVP in .NET Compact Framework - and we started Dooblo (www.dooblo.net) that specializes in PDA mobile surveys and forms. After a couple of years of development we released SurveyToGo (www.dooblo.net/stgi) which is the most flexible and easy to use solution out there for mobile surveys and forms - although i am a bit biased ;)

They had Gary Valenciano a.k.a. Mr. Pure Energy as a guest. He was basically there to give out some pointers to the scholars about being a performer.

I started laughing when I heard this from Mr. Pure Energy, "I'm not here because of showbiz.". He was saying that his presence in the PDA house was not about showbiz. For the scholars, yes he wasn't there for showbiz but to help them improve their skills. But for outside people, like me, it was basically a free advertisement for his concert called "His Love".

Was it a coincidence? I think no.

His presence is in a way like I said a free advertisement. He was showing off his skills there to attract more audience for his concert. Basically it was showbiz. No matter what you say, his appearance is still associated to showbiz.

There was one thing that he also said to the scholars, that you have to look into the eye of your audience so that they will know who you are. I've been seeing a lot of Gary V. in ASAP but I still don't know him. Things that I know about him, he's a singer, dancer, actor & he's a christian (who really cares about it) . And also, his dance moves hasn't changed ever since he became famous.

Gary V., do you really think that people are that dumb not to know what you really are doing inside the Academy house?

You say it wasn't really showbiz? Why did ABS-CBN show that part then? That part when you said, "I'm not here because of showbiz."

Mine is Bugoy. Always get goose bumps every time I hear him sing. Except for that week were he sang a song from Side A. I think he was a bit lost on that week.

My top 4 scholars are Bugoy, Liezel, Laarni & Miguel.

Why is Laarni included? She's got the talent. People just misunderstood her. I know how Laarni feels being part of the show. Being surrounded by much better looking scholars. Some of the scholars look better than her, but their talent isn't as good as her's.

Unfortunately, the search for the cell phone is over, and it will cost $400 to replace it. That's about a month's pay for my articles published in The Fort Pierce Tribune. The problem is that no PDA phone is cheaper, and it's what I need for my pseudo job and future employment.

As I deal with these life issues, my editor said she got bogged down today and will send me the stories she has for me tomorrow. She also asked me a few weeks ago if I wanted to cover a live story that's next week to be turned in at night by laptop. More on that when the time comes.

I do have to mention that I love the fact that my friends are getting married, especially my fellow sorority alumni. I believe we're using our weddings, showers, bachelorette parties, etc. as an excuse to get together again. I lived with most of the girls from last weekend for a couple years in the sorority house, so it was a lot of fun to stay with them - except this time in the sixth-floor suite of a resort overlooking the beach in Fort Lauderdale.

I didn't realize how much I missed them, and it was so much fun talking, going out, playing games and celebrating with my sisters. The best part was that I didn't have to say goodbye - I'll see them all in a month for the wedding.

Walaupun kita bisa mendapatkan di iPhone secara tidak resmi , tapi resiko unlocked menghanguskan garansi resmi Apple. iPhone dijual secara tidak resmi kisaran 6-9 juta rupiah di indonesia.

Pada Oktober 2007, Saya membeli versi unlocked iPhone seharga $680 melalui ebay. Sebuah perangkat dengan design menu-menu dinamik yang belum pernah ada sebelumnya. Sebuah handphone dengan kecangihan yang luar biasa, sangat fun untuk kita navigasikan.

Maret 2008, mobil saya di bobol ketika parkir disalah satu mall di jakarta, iPhone dan sebuah laptop powerbook G4 saya raib. Sebuah kehilangan yang sangat mengesalkan.

Saya berkenalan dengan seorang praktisi IT disingapura melalui Yahoo Messenger dan bercerita mengenai sebuah saudara kembar iPhone yang benar-benar identik dengan aslinya. Pertama mendegar berita itu saya masih kurang yakin, karena banyak iPhone palsu yang bertebaran termasuk di indonesia dengan merek iM* dan dari sekian banyak iPhone palsu tersebut tidak ada yang benar-benar mirip dengan iPhone. Kebanyakan hanya menu icon-icon yang mengcopy iPhone.

Saya mencoba memesan iPhone palsu ini dengan tidak berharap banyak. Kenyataan yang sangat mengejutkan. iPhone saya yang dulu hilang seperti datang kembali, sebuah kembaran yang benar-benar hampir identik!, sebuah tiruan yang hampir sempurna.

Dus yang sama dengan iPhone, saya masih belum terkesan. Karena banyak tiruan yang menggunakan box mirip dengan iPhone.

Logo Apple yang mengkilap, benar-benar EKSKLUSIF!.

Walaupun saya memesan yang 1 GB untuk coba-coba di box tetap tertera 8GB, karena iPhone asli hanya mengeluarkan versi 8GB.

Tidak disangka!, sebuah logo Apple pada bagian belakang iPhone menyambut saya. Saya hampir tidak percaya akan hal ini.

Berat benar-benar sama dengan rasa genggaman iPhone saya terdahulu.

Sangat identik!

WOW! habis kata-kata saya melihat kemiripan yang ada sejauh ini....

Body alumunium denga grafir logo Apple yang sempurna, benar-benar seperti aslinya. Saya kagum akan finishing yang ada, EKSKLUSIF dan IDENTIK!.

Bahkan laser dan grafir pada tulisan terkecil sekalipun, perusahaan ini benar-benar memiliki molding iPhone.

Saya telah memesan langsung ke marketing pabriknya di China sebanyak 6 unit kembaran iPhone pesanan rekan kerja saya bahkan salah satunya untuk Bos saya, mereka terkesima dengan IDENTIKnya iPhone ini, lumayan untuk mainan baru dan dibawa pada saat dugem atau ketemu client kata salah satu teman kerja saya, karena mereka tidak kuatir akan kehilangan atau jatuh karena harganya hanya 2.9 juta rupiah saja dan bergaransi pabrik selama 1 tahun. Harga yang sangat murah untuk sebuah MASTERPIECE!.

What I'm talking about here is more on a personal level and not necessarily about the technology integrated into Sunday morning worship service.

I'm taking steps to utilize technology to improve the efficiency of ministry.  A couple of quick examples...

• The calendar function on my PDA.  Without this little guy, I absolutely could not stay organized.  I'm tracking appointments for church events, work events, when I'm out of town, when Julie's out of town, etc.  It is essential.
• www.biblegateway.com.  Holy smokes!  I have absolutely worn this site out this year.  An accessible bible resource from ANYWHERE with my phone or computer.
• Google Docs.  Studying the bible with a couple of brothers from church and we're sharing our thoughts, reflections, etc. though this common link on the web.  Got this idea from Tim Stevens.
• Email.  Recently started utilizing email for daily encouragment/discipleship with a friend.

I remember years ago hearing an elderly woman from my family say something to the effect of "all this internet stuff is just the work of the devil."  Well, in this case and in many others, I know for a fact that God is using technology for expanding His Kingdom.

How are you using technology to your advantage in ministry?

"Smokey Mountain" derived its group name from a pile of garbages found in Manila which formed small mountains and produced smokes. In studies, we know that a pile of garbages can produce methane gas that's why there are smoke coming out. Families and children were found living in this area.That phenomenon showed the poverty of the country and Mr. C wanted to do something to improve that poor condition of the Philippines.

The emergence of "Smokey Mountain" is Ryan Cayabyab's answer to the call of hunger and poverty in the Philippines. It was his strong will to touch the hearts of people. He is asking for help to alleviate the lives of those miserable, misfortunate, poor, and wretched people! It was a nation call to him. It's his advocacy that poverty in the Philippines and environment preservation should be given prior attention so that actions can be done. Thus, achieve changes and solve economic crisis.

One of the resident jurors of PDA Little Dreamers 2nd Gala and Expulsion Night was Jeffrey Hidalgo. He's a former member of "Smokey Mountain". Last Saturday, 12 dreamers performed/sing the songs of "Smokey Mountain". Here are the list of the songs:

Even though I had an amazing and fun time celebrating my good friend's bachelorette party in Fort Lauderdale the past weekend, I came back cell phone-less to a defective modem in my place.

If you know me, I truly can't live without my PDA-like phone and Internet access. But I don't mean live in the physical sense - I can't do my job without it. I need my phone for calling and interviewing sources, and I need my Internet for the constant fact checking when writing stories.

I just wanted to bring story of my life readers back into the loop after my blog's first break these past few days. More to come on my weekend and my freelance work after I get a new modem tomorrow.

Now we have cellular phones, satellite phones, e-mail, PDA's, notebooks, and access to the corporate network via VPN.
And iPhones.

We are now "empowered" to accomplish work where ever we are, and at any time of the day or night. We're "road warriors" and "telecommuters".
"But sir, it's Saturday!" doesn't cut you any slack any more.

Apparently, neither does, "But sir, the family and I are on our approved vacation. We're on the 'It's a Small World' ride right now.. can't you hear the singing?"

In a 2005 study, the Families and Work Institute found that one in every three people had performed job duties outside of regularly scheduled work hours. My guess is that if you did that survey today, you get 66% answering yes (IT types would be at 100%--IMHO).

And we got spy cameras watching us now, too-- with more and more cities proudly boasting of "100% camera-coverage". The Chinese are becoming remarkably adept at designing streetlights, mailboxes, fencepost's, clocks, etc. that really are nothing more than camera concealer's, and they're exporting them as fast as they can make them.
We're onboard Arthur C. Clark's Discovery, and HAL is watching us. I ain't joking with you. Some of those "security" cameras have HAL's facial recognition ability, and some of them read lips (if not now, soon), see in the dark, and look into windows.
Like the man said, if you're not doing anything wrong, this shouldn't bother you.

GPS tracking. Security cameras. Can't escape from work... Hmmm...

Open the pod bay doors, HAL... I wanna get off.
