ゆず（柚子），一個我認識了很久的名字，我也聽了他們的歌（正確來說只有單曲而已……）很久，但一直談不上很喜歡；今年初無心插柳下載了他們的新專輯《WONDERFUL WORLD》，卻好像重新認識了這隊樂團，也讓我開始欣賞他們的音樂，甚至喜歡他們。

一直以來，我對柚子的印象都是「清新民謠組合」，而這個觀念便是我對他們音樂卻步的一大原因，因為本人一向將民謠與沉悶劃上等號。事實上柚子前期的單曲大多是編曲簡單，旋律不算很悅耳的輕快作品，當時的我聽了幾首便得出沉悶、千篇一律的感覺，尤其是同樣是C大調的《サヨナラバス》和《センチメンタル》，故此對他們的單曲我一直都是選擇較搶耳的來聽，如《飛べない鳥》、《栄光の架橋》、《春風》等，當然日後我會發現自己對柚子的固有印象是一大錯誤，而近年自己聽歌口味的轉變亦令我開始欣賞這類簡單清新的作品。

當年我對柚子歌曲的另一大地雷可算是他們的歌聲，岩澤厚治的高音還好，雖然當時實在覺得過份高音，高音得來還有點刺耳；然而對北川悠仁的演繹實在不能接受：本身的聲底已經較沉，唱歌時經常出現沙啞的情況，而且經常嗌破音，還要是出現在CD版本之中……對於當時的我來說這是十分差勁的唱歌方式。然而現在他們的聲線反而成為我喜歡他們的一大因素；當年覺得奇怪、刺耳的聲線現在聽來竟有幾分質樸、不加修飾的味道，北川悠仁間或出現的破音更令歌曲生色不少，如以前我十分討厭的《心のままに》、《アゲイン２》和《嗚呼、青春の日々》，現在反而成為我的大愛歌，而以上幾首歌中恰巧北川悠仁也有嗌至破音的情況，以前很討厭他的破音破壞了與岩澤厚治聲線的和諧（岩澤的音線還真穩定……），現在反而覺得他們的演繹很恰如其分地表達少年人那份真誠、毫不做作的赤子之心，直到新專輯、甚至新單曲中，他們的聲線依舊滿有這種真摯的感覺。

近幾個月買了他們的兩套精選輯：2005年推出的雙單曲精選《Home 1997-2000》、《Going 2001-2005》；和2007年推出的10週年自選輯《ゆずのね 1997-2007》，聽完這四張專輯，就除了回顧他們十年來的音樂路外，亦讓我更能清楚他們所玩的音樂（通常單曲都是較市場取向的，而自選輯所收錄的歌曲往往較能反映他們本身的喜好）；上面有提過以前一直對他們有「清新民謠組合」的固有印象，聽過這兩輯精選後，才發現他們的音樂不只是簡單清新的民謠，即使是編曲簡單的歌曲亦絕不易唱（須知岩澤厚治的變態音域……），雖然這類歌曲可算是他們的本色，於每一張專輯中也能找到這類作品，不過比起前期作品偏向突出口琴和歌聲，後期的同類歌曲已經在編曲上多花功夫，如《ウソっばち》、《つぶやき》加入弦樂，而且此類歌曲原來亦不乏旋律搶耳動聽之作，如《雨と泪》、《からっぽ》、《いつか》等。

當然，柚子亦有流行性較重的作品，這類作品於他們中後期的歌曲中似有越來越多的趨勢，如《しんしん》、《女神》、《無力》這類純以鍵琴伴奏的慢版作品；《リアル》、《言えずの♡アイ・ライク・ユー》、《うまく言えない》、《1》此類編曲像極一般流行曲的作品；還有《GOING HOME》、《栄光の架橋》、《ワンダフルワールド》這類氣勢宏大的歌曲；不過本人較愛他們的還是編曲富心思的「怪歌」，以及少有的流行搖滾，如《傍観者》的灰暗感、《命果てるまで》的偏搖滾、《ヒーロー見参》的酒廊味、《恋の歌謡日》的懷舊感等（新單曲的c/w《ビシネス》的電子+口琴暴走亦很得我心）。我固然欣賞柚子（以及寺岡呼人，他們的監製）的音樂造詣，然而更欣賞他們以不二家的聲線駕御不同種類的歌曲，不論是簡單的民謠、旋律性重的流行作品、還是氣勢宏大的歌曲，以他們的聲線唱出來還是保有那種根源味、那份單純、無雜質的氣息；即使他們已經不再是初出道時無憂無慮地歌頌著《夏色》的二十歲少年，現在他們仍是以同樣的聲線呼喊著《ワンダフルワールド》中對世界的關懷和期許；即使青春不再，仍要保持住一顆赤子之心，對行將踏入社會的我來說，這實在彌足珍貴。我想這也是柚子音樂吸引我的地方吧。
