I have just completed by degree with Birmingham City University. I'm happy to share I attained a 2:1, on target to what I wanted. I'm very happy.

Oh, the degree was BSc. (Hons.) Sound Engineering and Production. A degree that is well worth looking into if anybody is serious about working with sound.

I'm now searching for employment in a wide range of disciplines such music, TV, film, radio or maybe one that does interest me is acoustic consultancy. Anyone know of any business looking for sound engineers, produces please give me a buzz.

Now to get and I.Eng registered with the IET so I can be a pukka engineer.

Affliction vs. UFC

With the success of Affliction:Banned, Affliction is looking like a good contender to take on the UFC. So far the main hook Affliction has had is built around Fedor and a few ex-UFC heavyweight champions, basically stocking up on heavyweights - where the UFC is currently weaker. That is not really enough for sustainable, long-term success, though. Affliction will need to keep that tactic up, while looking at some other areas from financing, m&a, to innovations in the actual sport.

The AFL vs. the NFL is not exactly analogous to Affliction vs. the UFC but I'm sure Affliction has taken a look at this particular case. Clip from Wikipedia:

In 1960, after being refused entry to the NFL as an owner, Lamar Hunt led seven other men (including another snubbed by the NFL, Bud Adams) to establish the rival American Football League. Although other rival leagues had come and gone in the early years of professional football, the new AFL was able to capitalize on the ever-rising popularity of the sport. Hunt's initial goal was to bring professional football to Texas, which was home to two of the new teams. The AFL secured a television contract with ABC and filed an anti-trust lawsuit against the NFL in 1960, but this was dismissed in 1962. The AFL led the way in sharing of television and gate revenues across its franchises, thus securing itself financially.

A number of innovations distinguished the AFL and helped it maintain its legitimate rivalry to the NFL. A stadium game clock for the spectators (the NFL relied only on time announcements from the officials on the field), players' names on their jerseys, and a playing style geared to the attractive and flashy passing game.

Capitalizing on a growing wave of popularity is certainly happening. Geographic competition - hard to say. Two big promotions both filled many seats in two different locales on July 19th, showing some possibility here.

Creating a "flashier" and more "attractive" game could be a bigger factor to close the gap between what mainstream audiences want in actual action and the current state of things. Mma as it currently stands is not necessarily the best format just because early adopters have enjoyed it.

Using the ring instead of the cage, despite what folks on the internets say about Octagons being "real", is a good move. It capitalizes on some of the nostalgia long time fans have for PRIDE, supposedly favors more technical fights, and certainly differentiates by moving away from Octagon silliness and propaganda. It also makes the environment look superficially similar to that of boxing, which may have appeal to boxing fans who haven't fully embraced mma yet.
The thing I would like to see Affliction do differently is create new rules for a "flashier" and more "attractive" game. After recent judging controversies, I think a lot of people are frustrated by some mma rules. "Octagon control" is obviously not needed when there is no Octagon. What about throws, groundfighting, and judging criteria? I argue for some combination of IKF San Shou rules and Abu Dhabi Combat Club rules, plus the PRIDE yellow card. In addition, borrowing some kind of time limit on groundwork from combat sambo rules would also be a great idea. As much as I like practicing bjj, the bjj-oriented rules from the early days make for boring fights from a spectator view. Fans love it when the ref tells the fighters to stand back up, especially when nothing much is happening. Fans can't really understand what's happening on the ground anyway unless it happens fast (and even then they likely don't follow it). Encouraging fast-paced groundwork and submissions with time limits would make for a "flashier" and more "attractive" game. Affliction may as well define its competition to include pro wrestling and not just the UFC. If the UFC wants to propagate a brand positioning of "real', "original" and oriented toward "hardcore" fans, they could relegate themselves to an earlier adopter niche, while other organizations capture a larger, later adopter, mainstream audience. EliteXC already had the most viewers.

In the financial and m&a areas, I think Affliction should aggressively pursue deals with EliteXC and/or Strikeforce. The financial situation for Affliction is supposedly based on a partnership with Trump, but Affliction needs to make a profit or else it cannot continue. A merger / acquisition of EliteXC, Strikeforce, or some other organization could be a smart move. Buying Strikeforce would bring in Alistair Overeem, another heavyweight star, as well as Cung Le, who could be a HUGE star. Dedicated fans saw what he did to Frank Shamrock. Buying EliteXC would bring in Gina Carano and Kimbo Slice. I say, convince the financiers to buy both organizations. They are not competitive as three separate organizations but as one, things could get interesting. EliteXC already has the network television deal. Adding up all these assets starts to mean something. Zuffa has already purchased PRIDE, owns the WEC, and is rumored to be purchasing the IFL. Affliction or maybe EliteXC needs to act quickly.

Affliction is also trying to claim better HR policies and relationships with its fighters. That hype seems centered around Couture, but who knows, maybe Tito Ortiz will now fight for Affliction as well. Maybe if they keep up this hype, other fighters will jump on this bandwagon. This tactic seems based mainly on hope, not on solid strategy, but who knows, with a little luck, if it works, it works.

As far as other auxiliary areas such as presentation, I don't give a crap about adding some silly concert or cheerleaders but these gimmicks that Affliction and EliteXC have tried are probably a good idea to pull in more mainstream fans. Also, selling sponsorships might help some but uh, well I guess sponsorship by some other t-shirt company doesn't seem likely.

I'm sure Affliction has thought of all these areas, except for maybe trying innovations in the rules. Right now, it probably makes sense for them to use unified rules and tie into WAMMA, to lower "switching costs" from other mma bouts to theirs. However, in the mid to long term, I still think they should look at this area as well.

Resulta y pasa, que ahora me encuentro en la ciudad de Caracas buscando información sobre un curso intensivo del idioma Japonés. Pués aqui estoy y me he encontrado que mientras hacía llamadas y buscaba información me encontre con la noticia de que si quiero estudiar el japones, tendre que mudarme un año entero a Caracas para poder completar mi estudio y recibir el certificado de la embajada de Japón en Venezuela como cursante del estudio de idiomas Japonés. Suena algo no? pero bueno la cosa empezó asi:

Mi tía vino a recogerme para acompañarme a averiguar como sería el asunto. Primero tendríamos que ir a la embajada del Japón puesto que es la base de toda información. Y bueno.. nos surgio el problema, de que ni yo ni mi tía sabiamos donde se encontraba la susodicha direccion de la embajada (resalto que averigue todo eso pero justamente con las prisas olvide el papel con la direccion en casa) y bueno, por supuesto tuvimos que dirigirnos a su casa a averiguar (nuevamente) en la pagina de la embajada la direccion para poder acercarnos hasta allá. Pero ninguna de las dos había comido y de repente asi como asi se armo una lluvia torrencial que dificulto el trafico. No aguantabamos el estomago asi que pasamos recogiendo a mi tío para ir a comer por ahi algo que apaciguara el hambre (lolz)

Aclaratoria: Mi tia se caso hace poco y me cuesta un poco decirle tío a su ahora esposo, pero es una persona genial, asi que no creo que se moleste si lo nombro aqui como mi "tio" jejeje (verdad? TIO??? XD)

Bueno ahora sie, fuimos a comer una pizza que estaba sensacional, pues es horneada a la antigua, es decir en uno de esos hornos de leña que son profuuuuuuuuuuundos como los nerds (ja!) Y se pueden colocar mas de 10 pizzas en uno solo. Insisto en que es el horno pero la pizza tenia un sabor genial. Cada uno pidío una de su sabor preferido (La mía fué una Funghi que lleva solo la salsa de tomate y mozzarela con los añadidos de champiñones y jamón.) muy buena debo decir. El nombre del lugar es LaCasaNostra. Suena a mafia verdad? jejeje ps no se equivocan puesto que en las paredes habia retratos de famosos mafiosos de su respectiva epoca

Luego de eso, salimos a dejar nuevamente en su trabajo a mi tio y nos dirigimos a la casa de mi tia para encontrarnos con la sorpresa de que el trafico a su casa estaba mas revuelto que unos huevos. Nos tomó aproximandamente una media hora llegar (lo asombroso del asunto es que de donde estabamos , al apartamento, solo nos hubiera tomado unos cinco minutos de no ser por la lluvia y el trafico. >.>)

Cuando llegamos (por fin!) al apartamento, nos pusimos a averiguat la cuestion y nos toco hacer varias llamadas tanto a universidades como a la propia embajada de Japon. En todas las llamadas nos respondian lo mismo. El curso es de varios niveles y tiene una duracion de aproximadamente nueve meses si se completan todos los niveles exitosamente.

JO...

Eso no me entusiasmó demasiado, pero si quiero estudiar el idioma, no me queda de otra. Así que la novedad del asunto es que ahora me mudo para la capital. >.< Extrañaré muchísimo mi querida Puerto La Cruz T.T pero los sacrificios tienen que hacerse para conseguir lo que uno quiere.

Sim assisti o tão falado Batman: The Dark Knight. O que achei? Melhor filme de super herói dos últimos tempos [antes era o Ironman, e antes era o Spiderman e se o Po do Kung-fu Panda fosse super herói seria ele]. Confesso que não sou muito fan do morcegão mas esse filme realmente chama atenção, mesmo para os que não gostam desse universo. Fui assistir o filme com o pé-meio-atrás, com medo de que eles focassem de mais no Coringa e deixassem o cavaleiro negro em segundo plano, mas sabe de uma coisa? Eles conseguiram distribuir muito bem o foco, teve até espaço para um certo terceiro personagem [que não vou falar pra evitar spoiler]. O filme tem uma mensagem bem clara: até quando as pessoas podem resistir sem revelar o mau que existe dentro delas, porque, no final das contas, todo mundo tem um lado sombrio [que nem sempre é ruim]. E para não dizer que não falei de Heath Ledger, o cara fez um papel realmente incrivel. Nunca vi muita graça nos antigos coringas, mas Ledger consegue arrancar arrepios com suas risadas de escárnio, o seu demente e psicotico coringa deixa muito personagem de filme de terror no chinelo. Se ele merece ganhar um Oscar Póstumo? Por que não deixar o público decidir? Acho que não haveria algo mais justo [e quem sabe assim não inserir um pouco de interatividade no mundinho fechado de Hollywood]. Why so Serious?

Nachdem ich heute herausgefunden habe, dass nicht mein Receiver sondern das Kabel davon kaputt war, habe ich also wieder regelmäßigen TV-Genuss anstehen...

zum Thema:

Das hier ist eine Frau. Den Namen weiss ich nicht. Auf jeden Fall macht diese Frau zusammen mit einem Mann eine Sendung auf Sat 1, in der jeglicher unsinniger Scheiß getestet wird. Als Ich also heute Nacht durch die Kanäle zappte und an dieser absurden Überflüssigkeit hängen blieb, saß ich doch teilweise mit geöffnetem Mund da. Denn, so weiss auch ich ab heute, wenn ein Wirt ein Colaglaß nur bis ca 0,5 cm unter dem Eichstrisch auffüllt, und dass dann 20 mal am Tag macht, dann spart er am Tag 2 Liter. Aber verkauft er denn nicht auch 2 Liter am Tag zu viel, wenn er 0,5 cm zu viel einkippt?

Ist auch nicht so wichtig, denn dank dieser Episode wissen wir: Wasser hat nen PH-wert um die 7. Also das was so jede normale Flüssigkeit so hat. UND! ACHTUNG! AUFGEPASST! Wenn man ein Ei rein legt, dann bleibt es erstens drin liegen und wird zweitens nicht vom Wasser zersetzt. DIe erstaunlichste Eigenschaft von Wasser ist allerdings, dass es Rost nicht entfernen kann. Gut zu wissen, oder?

Primero de todo: Hola a los que me esten leyendo (Si, hola mamá XD)

Ultimamente todo el mundo tiene un blog en el que cuenta su vida, escribe poesias, hace tutoriales sobre cosas... asi que, he pensado, ¿por que no me hago uno?. No me gusta ir contando mi vida por ahí, asi que pensé en orientarlo a la informática en general, pero he preferido hacerlo sobre un videojuego, en concreto, Super Smash Bros, un juego de Nintendo en el que los principales personajes de la compañia se pegan palos entre ellos... Hace poco que descubrí lo tremendamente complejo que es este juego, el lado competitivo, vamos, la verdad es que me pico el gusanillo y llevo algo de tiempo practicando las técnicas avanzadas, y leyendo cosillas técnicas sobre el juego, asi que decidi compartir un poquito mis vivencias, en realidad no pretendo enseñar a nadie con este blog, eso no esta a mi alcance, ya que a mi todavia me queda mucho por aprender, vamos a tomarlo como los apuntes de un novato, me apetece escribirlos de cara al público.

Bueno, sin más, no me quiero enrollar muchisimo con la primera entrada, ya tendreis tiempo de aguantarme, escribiré un poquito sobre cada smash de los 3 que existen y vereis que posteo mis avances en cada uno de los 3 (Actualmente, juego a los tres smash, aunque me dedico mas al Melee, pues es el que mas chicha tiene).

Nu, nu este vorba despre mine. Eu nu sunt pros-dispusa aproape niciodata. Este vorba despre cum au ajuns fetele pe blogul meu. Google. Deci, daca tot cautati metode de a alunga melancolia si irascibilitatea, sa vedem ce pot sa fac pentru voi. Ca, deh, imi place subiectul. :D

Ce sa faci cand esti unhappy? Pai, in primul rand, fara muzica melancolica. In al doilea rand, fa-te frumoasa. Aici ma refer ca... stiu si eu... machiaza-te, imbraca-te shukar frumos si alte chestii. Uita-te la o comedie! Asta chiar ajuta sa te binedispui. Daca pleci de acasa, ia-ti mptreiul cu tine si asculta muzica care chiar iti place pe drum. Fa sport. Da-te pe role sau pe skate... Sportul declanseaza secretia de hormoni ai fericirii. Fa si tu ceva abdomene acolo. Si de la atat ar trebui sa te binedispui. Mie de obicei imi ajung rolele si mptreiul. Uneori merge si comedia.

Hamburg, 11. Juli 2008. Der niederländische Internetprovider Euroaccess muss die Raubkopien-Portalseite torrent.to vom Netz nehmen und die persönlichen Daten der Seiten-Administratoren herausgeben. Dies entschied das Gericht in Amsterdam am 8. Juli per einstweiliger Verfügung. Bereits vergangene Woche hatte der Hosting-Anbieter Leaseweb zwei weitere stark frequentierte Seiten mit Links zu deutschsprachigen Film- und TV-Serien-Raubkopien heruntergefahren. Ein dritter niederländischer Provider schaltete eine Streaming-Site mit Unmengen an illegal eingestellten Filmen ab. Damit verliert das nordwestliche Nachbarland Deutschlands seinen Status als Rückzugsort für deutsche Portalseiten zu illegalen Angeboten.

Das in den Niederlanden gehostete Portal Torrent.to gilt als eine der bekanntesten Seiten zu illegalen Download-Angeboten. Indizien, wie etwa deren schwerpunktmäßige Ausrichtung auf den deutschsprachigen Markt, weisen auf einen Betrieb durch deutsche Staatsbürger hin. Infolgedessen hatte die Gesellschaft zur Verfolgung von Urheberrechtsverletzungen e.V. (GVU) ein Strafverfahren initiiert und die niederländische Schwesterorganisation BREIN um Unterstützung gebeten. Eine wenig kooperative Haltung des Hosting-Providers Euroaccess erschwerte weitere Ermittlungen jedoch erheblich. Daher startete BREIN durch Abmahnung das nun erfolgreiche zivilrechtliche Verfahren gegen das Unternehmen.

Von der GVU durch wesentliche Informationen unterstützt, gelang BREIN der Nachweis des offensichtlich illegalen und äußerst umfangreichen Angebots an aktuellen Filmen, Entertainmentsoftware und Musikdateien auf torrent.to. Auf dieser Grundlage begründete der Vorsitzende des Gerichts, dass die rechtswidrige Art der Seite auch für den Provider absolut klar gewesen sein muss - nicht zuletzt da der Hosting-Anbieter von den Anti-Piraterie-Organisationen davon in Kenntnis gesetzt worden war. Euroaccess ermögliche durch seine Rolle als Webhost in diesem Fall die Begehung umfangreicher Urheberrechtsverletzungen durch Internetnutzer. Das Unternehmen trage "eine eigene Verantwortung", argumentierte der Richter, und habe auch die Kosten der Rechtsstreitigkeit zu tragen.

Jan Scharringhausen, Leiter der GVU-Rechtsabteilung kommentiert die Entscheidung: "Wir begrüßen diese einstweilige Verfügung und hoffen, dass dank der zu erwartenden Informationen von Euraccess die Verantwortlichen von torrent.to nun zur Verantwortung gezogen werden können. Die GVU und ihre Mitgliedsunternehmen werden diese neuerliche Präzedenz-Entscheidung zum Anlass nehmen, gemeinsam mit BREIN alle verbleibenden Portalseiten in den Niederlanden anzugehen. Dazu gehört auch kino.to.

Also lasst die Finger weg von diesen Seiten, wahrscheinlich werden die Verantwortlichen auch die IPs ihrer User raus geben um ihren eigenen Arsch zu retten. Macht euch nicht unglücklich und besucht Kino.to, torrent.to und all die anderen Seiten NICHT.

Heute habe ich meinen Receiver repariert. Endlich wieder Fernsehen. Die Welt des Schwachsinns erwartet mich!

Wie jeden Montag kommen auch heute Abend wieder Toto und Harry. Nach erfolgreichen Paaren wie Harry und Sally, Halli und Galli und Chip und Chap, sorgen nun auch schon seit langem Tot und Harry für Recht und Ordnung. Ihre Revier ist Bochum.

Während sich in der Einsatzleitung die Hilferufe wegen Vergewaltigungen und Mord stapeln, Hundertschaften im Ruhrgebiet immernoch auf der Suche nach Kinderleichen sind und Raubkopierer mit 5 Jahren Freiheitsstrafe bstraft werden, sind Tot und Harry heute unterwegs um unter Anderem geklaute Fahrräder zu beschlagnahmen und mit Vermutungen junge Männer zu beschimpfen, die eigentlich nur Zivilcourage in unserer ach so grünen und sonnigen Gesellschaft vorbringen wollten.
