Pernah mendengar kata Hayabusa?

Pernah mendengar kata Hayabusa?

Tampilan sinematik Ninja Gaiden versi 'jadoel'

Sekitar 2 tahun setelah rilis game pertamanya, Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos melanjutkan kisah yang terjadi satu tahun setelah game sebelumnya dimana Ryu harus menghadapi maksud jahat dari Ashtar “The Emperor of Darkness” yang ingin membuka gerbang Realm of Chaos.

Cartridge NES Ninja Gaiden II... Ada yang masih punya?

Setelah The Dark Sword of Chaos, petualangan Ryu kembali berlanjut di Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom pada tahun 1991.

Kemasan SNES Ninja Gaiden Trilogy

Ryu Hayabusa is back on Xbox!!

Tampilan Ryu Hayabusa versi NDS

Ninja Gaiden II... Please don't try this scene at home... Or anywhere else...

Well...

The Legend of Zelda

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Resultado? Um dos jogos mais importantes da história: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, ainda tido por alguns como o melhor da série e possivalmente nas listas de jogos favoritos de muita gente. Migração mais do que bem sucedida.

Ninja Gaiden

Grand Theft Auto (GTA)

Prince of Persia

At Xbox Japan's Fall Press Conference today, they unveiled their new "cinematic action" game, Ninja Blade. With Itagaki-san leaving Tecmo, Microsoft realized they were short one ninja game. Developer From Software, creators of the Armored Core series, should make an easy transition from third-person shooter, to third-person slicer. The debut teaser trailer shows a ninja descending from an aircraft into Tokyo. Meanwhile, the Ryu Hayabusa wannabe is filleting winged demon monsters. With such little shown of the game, I'm wondering how it will differ from the Ninja Gaiden games.

The juicy “Gearbox is developing Halo 4 OMG” rumor continues to be at the top of fanboy

The juicy "Gearbox is developing Halo 4 OMG" rumor continues to be at the top of fanboy debate lists, with Microsoft confirming to Kotaku that Corrinne Yu, director of technology at Gearbox and pictured in full Spartan armor, has been hired as principle engine architect (fancy!) for the Xbox manufacturer's internal Halo team. The official statement: "As the Halo franchise continues to flourish, Microsoft Game Studios is growing its internal team to develop future Halo projects." And what could "future Halo projects" entail? Microsoft isn't blabbing, but suspicious men in trenchcoats posit that Yu will be working on the nebulous Peter Jackson project and putting her Unreal Engine 3 expertise to good use.

Less than 24 hours after it made headlines for selling over 1 million copies of Ninja Gaiden II, Tecmo is making news again. This morning, role-playing game giant Square Enix (Final Fantasy XIII) announced it was making an unsolicited but nonhostile bid for the Dead or Alive 4 publisher. In a statement, Square Enix president Yoichi Wada presented the offer as an attempt to rescue Tecmo. In the span of two months, the publisher has been rocked by a declining stock price, class-action lawsuits, and the departure of and legal action by star designer Tomonobu Itagaki. Just last week, Tecmo president Yoshimi Yasuda abruptly stepped down, citing personal reasons. "Tecmo is a group of excellent creators with a proven track record in the global market, which is a precious human resource of Japan," explained Wada. "We, however, cannot be optimistic about the future of this significant resource, given the current circumstances surrounding Tecmo. We believe that Tecmo will be able to make a great leap forward by joining Square Enix Group, which will provide the group with further growth opportunities as well." Though Tecmo has not yet publicly commented on Square Enix's offer, it is likely tempting to many shareholders. The ¥920 ($8.46) per share offer is a 30 percent premium on Tecmo's ¥706 ($6.49) closing price on Thursday. The Bloomberg news service values the entire bid at 22.3 billion yen ($205 million). As a result of the offer, Tecmo stock shot up 14 percent to close ¥806 ($7.41) per share today, with Square Enix's stock rising 2.6 percent to ¥3,610 ($33.20). While generous, Square-Enix's self-described "friendly takeover bid" (TOB) is very time-sensitive, expiring on September 4--next Thursday. Wada's statement ended with "If [Square Enix] should, by the deadline, receive no response from Tecmo, or fail to obtain consent by the board of directors of Tecmo to the TOB, the company will withdraw the proposal, and will NOT acquire the Tecmo shares through the TOB as planned in the proposal." (Emphasis in the original.)

Square Enix announced this morning that they have bought over 30% of shares of currently troubled Japanese developer, Tecmo.

The developer behind the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive has been through rough times recently with it's most notable developer in the company Tomonobu Itagaki, behind both the NG and DOA series, being fired with Tecmo's president Yoshimi Yasuda resigning last week.

It was reported this morning on Kotaku that SE were planning a friendly takeover of Tecmo but in a press release shortly after, it was announced that it was awaiting approval by Tecmo's Board of Directors by September 4th (Thats next Thursday)

In a press confernece afterwards, the president of Square Enix Yoichi Wada said on it:

"I can only believe that our proposal will be accepted,"

Square also stated that if their offer is rejected, they will back down from it (There's a hint for EA...)

This year, we have seen two game companies, Activision and Vivendi, becoming one, Activision Blizzard. We have also seen Electronic Arts interested in buying Take-Two, parent company of Rockstar Games. All of those companies have been and are excellent ones. They’ve given us with some awesome games to play with. If Square Enix gets to buy Tecmo, it would be able to bring more games to the United States. Tecmo has had problems within the company since Tomonobu Itagaki left. Last time Square Enix bought a company was almost three years ago when they purchased Taito.

Now I can see a Ninja Gaiden – Final Fantasy crossover RPG game with Dead or Alive girls kicking butt out of the FF chicks. Square Enix, don’t put Ryu Hayabusa in Kingdom Hearts, okay?

Source: Kotaku [http://kotaku.com/5043307/square-enix-plans-to-take-over-tecmo].

Square Enix, no pongas a Ryu Hayabusa in Kingdom Hearts, ¿okey?

We’d like to apologize for the delay of this edition of TGWNews Top 10. A staff meeting had

We'd like to apologize for the delay of this edition of TGWNews Top 10. A staff meeting had to be cancelled following a certain participant's unpleasantly loud consumption of chips (for anonymity's sake lets call him Allan T), prompting a long overdue ban on all snacks in the conference room. Today we're proud to reveal our list of the Top 10 Emotional Responses, the feelings most vividly experienced while playing video games and the games that best evoke them.

#10:

We Chozo Are Departing Now - Loneliness

While some single-player games see you assuming the role of an entire army or fighting alongside an omnipresent group of teammates, the games you play alone are at their most intuitive when your protagonist is also flying solo. Plus let's face it, the one-versus-many archetype isn't particularly entertaining from the 'many' side. Although your character may be the only one capable of fighting he is generally accompanied by a slew of contacts, lackeys, well-wishers and hanger-ons that prevent you from feeling isolated. There are notable instances, however, where loneliness can serve as the prevailing feel of an entire game.

Metroid Prime is one title that cultivates such an atmosphere. The plot sees you travelling between planets to read about either the recently deceased or the long extinct and on the rare occasion you encounter another humanoid or sentient creature, the policy is shoot first and never ask questions. Among its many other allures, Metroid Prime's ability to stir a powerful emotion is what has made the game so successful. Other titles that may evoke loneliness include the rest of the Metroid series and Ecco the Dolphin.

#9:

Testicles And Pliers - Disgust

The gaming world, not unlike the real world, offers a great variety of repulsive subject matter. What happens to disgust you may not disgust others and vice versa, but there will always be at least one universal source of disgust: cruel and unusual punishment. For this reason Manhunt epitomizes our ninth emotion with its gratuitous torture-centric gameplay.

Disgust usually begets intrigue and immersion, and to proceed through a game even when disgusted with your own actions is a hallmark of quality. This emotional response can bring you as far as a genuine ethical conflict, making it all the more potent to those who seek feeling when they play. Among others that may disgust at times are the Mortal Kombat and Grand Theft Auto franchises.

#8:

Do You Wish To Delete All Save Files? - Confusion

Confusion is often very fleeting, so when a game manages to confuse you consistently and for prolongued periods of time you take notice. Some titles, like Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, are actually designed to mess with your head. With its trademark sanity effects and various fourth wall breaking stunts this is the game to challenge your virtual reality.

Confusion renders us vulnerable and can be a catalyst to more powerful emotions such as fear (more on that later). You're likely to find yourself confused by No More Heroes and the Metal Gear Solid series.

#7:

Friends Are A Nice Thing To Have... - Sympathy

Since video game characters developed personalities, countless have emerged who captured our sympathy. While a study could be done on the more complex sympathetic nature of Metal Gear Solid 3's The Boss, no character so embodies pure sympathy as the Skull Kid from Majora's Mask. With a character arc that sees him go from the lonely misfit of Ocarina of Time to the reviled antagonist of its sequel, who wouldn't feel sorry for this guy?

Despite his less than flattering roles, the Skull Kid is ultimately shown to be the misunderstood victim of the whole scenario. His touching realization at the end of the game allowed all of us to sympathize with the adversity he faced. Most character-driven stories will evoke sympathy, but Metal Gear Solid 3 (as mentioned) and Killer7 are particularly fine examples.

#6:

A Simpler Time - Nostalgia

We're lucky enough to be part of an industry that evolves in leaps rather than steps, and as such it can take as little as five years for a game to become an historical interest. In gaming nostalgia typically takes one of two forms, a desire for a time when games were simpler or a desire for a time when everything was simpler. To our knowledge there's only one game that appeases both of these: Animal Crossing.

Not only does this quaint life simulator revolve around maintaining a tidy home and writing obscene letters to the neighbors, it gives you classic Nintendo titles to play within the game. When you're done with the daily agenda (plant flowers, talk to Sven) you can head home and relax over a round of Balloon Fight. This was undoubtedly one of the most charming additions to the game and hopefully we'll see it revived in City Folk. Other sources of nostalgia include the Xbox Live Arcade, Playstation Network and Virtual Console services.

#5:

Dead Cell, Pliskin, Mr. X - Anticipation

Any game worth its salt will have you wanting to see more, but Kojima caters to this emotional response best with the relentless plot twists and cliffhangers of Metal Gear Solid 2. Not a segment goes by that doesn't introduce a new character or plot element to drive your progress forward. Many games on the other hand get along with a single grand prize at the end.

You'll find some form of anticipation in every game you play, but for a particularily acute sense of it try the other Metal Gear Solid games and the Final Fantasy series.

#4:

This Game Sucks - Disappointment

One of a few emotions on the list that is distributed generously and equally across all forms of media, most gamers don't have to look beyond their own collections to find disappointment. The internet hype machine has sent disappointment skyrocketing throughout the community, but the problem was endemic even prior to this.

Perhaps the greatest disappointment of all was the unplayable Atari port of Pac-Man. Unlike its partner in industry destruction, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, the arcade native Pac-Man was known to the public as one of the best video games before it even saw release on the system. This compounded the ensuing disappointment as consumers tried desperately to reconcile not only how bad the game was, but how Atari could manage to screw up Pac-Man! If you desire further disappointment, first seek counselling, then buy third party Wii titles indiscriminately.

The Most Unexciting Place On Mars - Fear

Video games are quite adept at eliciting fear from players. They can be made to be longer and more immersive than film or radio plays (keep your fedoras on War of the Worlds enthusiasts). Doom 3 is one high profile title that accomplishes this, set in the dark environment of a Mars colony that sees an unusually high influx of zombies.

As fear is the emotion most important to survival, horror games often inspire a deep sense of concern for the protagonist's well being and a heightened emotional connection to the game itself. Other games that exemplify the genre include the Resident Evil series and the Silent Hill series.

#2:

$#%&!!!11!!one! - Frustration

We typically play games to relax and unwind, but it's not always the best way to do it. When was the last time you hurled your television remote across the room, kicked your CD player or snapped a DVD disc even when the equipment itself was working fine? User interaction and skill-based participation give video games the advantage in bringing out our utmost rage and frustration.

A recent example is Dead Or Alive 4, which had not only an extremely difficult story mode but lacked the satisfying ending resolutions (compared to its predecessor) to justify it. Other games you may find frustrating include Ninja Gaiden and many notorious classics such as Battletoads.

#1:

For The Love Of The Game - Enjoyment

While most of the other entries can be construed as forms of enjoyment, we still thought this deserved a seperate placement. Enjoyment is the most important, visceral and widespread emotional response to video gaming and it's the reason we play to begin with. Games were made to entertain and they're particularly good at what they do.

There's enjoyment to be found in almost every game on almost every console, but if we're to pick a game to represent enjoyment it's going to be Super Mario Bros. Regardless of loyalties and preferences there shouldn't be a gamer out there that can't enjoy this classic masterpiece. If you want to find more games to enjoy, this would be a good place to start.

You've heard our piece, now lets hear what you have to say. What games made you feel lonely, confused or scared? Please feel free to leave any questions or comments and thanks for reading. Barring any unforseen circumstances we'll see you on Tuesday next week!

Name: Ninja Gaiden II
Category: Xbox 360
Language: English
Genre: Fantasy Action Adventure
Release Date: 03-06-2008

Description

Ninja Gaiden II is a great game and a maddening one. In some respects, it improves upon the core Ninja Gaiden gameplay to exhilarating effect. It's flashier and it's bloodier, and when those enhancements are in full force, the game offers the best action available on the platform. You de-limb werewolves and slice up legions of rival ninjas and demons, and pulling off these moves produces a gory, showy explosion of particles and body parts. And, as any fan of its Xbox and PlayStation 3 predecessors should expect, it's incredibly difficult, which makes a successful confrontation still one of the most rewarding moments in all of action gaming.

Team Ninja also went back and fixed a few of the frustrating issues from the previous entry. For example, should you lose a boss battle (and you'll do it frequently), you can restart most of them at the beginning of the encounter, rather than having to revisit 10 minutes of lead-in gameplay. There are more save points, which also replenish your health, and your health will replenish on its own after action sequences. But for every step forward, the game takes an infuriating step back. It isn't as slickly paced as its precursors, and it isn't the visual leap forward that Ninja Gaiden was. Most noticeably, the camera has taken a turn for the worse, seemingly more interested in flaunting the game's flamboyant flurries of steel and black spandex than in being functional. Ninja Gaiden was hard, but it was rarely cheap; when you died, you knew it was because you needed to perform better. In Ninja Gaiden II, the badly implemented camera and other factors (more on this later) can lead to trial-and-error repetition that relies more on dumb luck than on your controller-wielding prowess. Sure, this sequel is a fantastic game, but it isn't as good as the game that reintroduced the franchise.

The core action is both familiar and remarkably intense. As returning hero Ryu Hyabusa, you hack, slash, and decapitate your way through hordes of nasty-looking foes, many of which are returning enemies from the Xbox original. What makes it so satisfying is how fast and fierce these encounters are. Using just two attack buttons and a jump button, and pulling a trigger to block, you can execute a flurry of slashes, ground-pounds, and high-flying feats with ease. And it looks fantastic in motion. The particle-heavy, blood-spattering special effects and silky animations will make your jaw drop, thanks to the exciting spectacle they create. Each battle keeps you focused and engaged, and the speedier your thumb waggles, the more satisfying and explosive the resulting acrobatics are.

In fact, the standard combat is even better than before, thanks to a few violent touches that take the series to new levels of adrenaline-pumping ferocity. Humanoid combatants routinely lose limbs at the mercy of your steely weapons, but rather than collapsing in a pool of spurting blood, they just get angrier. Amazingly, a werewolf with one arm is more dangerous than one with both limbs intact, but this fact is nicely offset by the possibility of a finishing move. If you get close to a de-limbed demon and hit Y, the camera will move in close and showcase a fantastically over-the-top fatality, complete with flying viscera and the ghastly sounds of spurting blood and squashed tissue.

Bosses are more frequent now and vary in terms of quality and challenge. Some of them are maddeningly difficult, such as dual armadillos that spew fiery rocks toward you. Others, like a blood-dripping, sword-yielding she-fiend, hit all the right notes. And one of them, a giant worm that speeds through subterranean caverns, will get stuck in walls due to a glitch and is easily defeated by slashing at its head while it tries to extricate itself. You can slash and bash using some of the old weapons, including the dragon sword and the lunar staff, but you may want to go into these battles with some of the newer additions such as the blade tonfas, which deliver some excellent combo moves and are fun to wield.

Make no mistake: All of this is really hard, and the second half of the game in particular is certainly just as hard as the original game. You'll face a number of enemies at a time, but they aren't content to lounge around like Dynasty Warriors refugees. They jump around quickly, may tackle you and execute an overpowering assault, and are often remarkably in tune to the actions you're trying to pull off, ready to counter with their own violent reply. The insane level of difficulty may not seem apparent in the first few chapters, which franchise fans may notice are hard but not as hard as Ninja Gaiden's. However, the challenge ramps up considerably as the game progresses, and you'll eventually be repeating certain sequences multiple times until you find a way to dispose of the brawny baddies. Much of the time, death brings with it the realization that you simply need to be a better ninja. When Ninja Gaiden II relies on its formula, it's not unfair; it's tough, certainly, but not punishing.

Unfortunately, the game strays all too often from its roots and meanders into the abyss of cheapness that Ninja Gaiden only rarely peered into. There are some hints of this early on, but the first third of the game and the final third are incredibly satisfying. Nevertheless, the center portion relies on tricks that simply don't cut it. Ninjas who you can't see pummel you with unblockable rockets over and over again, a defeated boss explodes and takes you down with it, and under- and over-water sequences feel more like work than fun. These sections are where the camera is at its most annoying. Apparently designed to focus on Ryu's exciting swordplay, the camera has been pulled in closer and moved a bit downward, which isn't ideal, but at least it isn't a hassle in wider levels, like one in a postmodern New York City. However, for the majority of the time you're in confined spaces and narrow corridors, where the camera gets stuck in corners, moves into uncomfortable positions, and requires more resets than before.

Then, after the infuriating middle section comes to a close, Ninja Gaiden II jumps an impressive hurdle. During its final third, everything clicks into place, and brilliantly so. The enemies become more interesting, unfair difficulty is replaced by breathless challenges that reward your skill, and the level designs take advantage of the platform's visual strengths. In the best of these levels, you fend off flying fiends while fighting ground foes across bridges and on ledges, as lava cascades down the cliffsides. Other quality levels throughout the game include a nail-biting trek through a hulking airship and a tour of duty in a sprawling castle, where you slice up dining-room chairs in addition to growling lycanthropes.

It's disappointing that the same amount of attention wasn't given to other levels, or to environmental design in general. Devil May Cry 4, Ninja Gaiden II's closest competitor, showcases sumptuous backgrounds that stand in beautiful relief to its furious action. By contrast, Ninja Gaiden II's environments are generally bland and utilitarian, such as the ugly and repetitive green caves that one of the previously mentioned bosses calls home. Some trips back to Hyabusa Village provide some needed narrative connections to the previous game, but it looks barely better than it did before. As far as its environments are concerned, Ninja Gaiden II does not feature the technical prowess you would expect from a game in 2008. It also suffers from some occasional hits to its normally smooth frame rate, which was simply never an issue in the past. Another familiar visual glitch is a returning one: Splotches of blood and goo still stick to the invisible walls, and because there's so much gore, this flaw sticks out all the more. By now, this sort of thing should have been addressed. By contrast, the vivid special effects, excellent enemy design, and fluid animations are fantastic, and they make it easy to notice that the rest of the visual design is decidedly behind the curve.

The cutscenes are great as well, if a bit cheesy, and they give some flair to Ninja Gaiden II's throwaway story. Not that it's bad, but the tale's just an excuse to pit you against a series of greater fiends, and to introduce you to the game's femme fatale, Sonia. She's exactly what a Ninja Gaiden fan would expect: blond, beautiful, and buxom. So buxom, in fact, that you will marvel at how she manages to move at all without suffering from back pain, and at how much breast physics have evolved over the years. Ryu's archenemy Elizebet is just as curvy, and a scene that features blood dripping from her bare bosom is wild, intense, and disturbing. You probably won't get invested in any of these characters, but the cutscenes are good enough to look forward to, and the finale may very well knock your socks off.

Leaderboards and unlockable, masochistic difficulty levels provide some replay value. You can also record sections of gameplay and upload them for other players to watch, but though this feature is neat, it isn't implemented very well. You're stuck recording entire swaths of gameplay, and the frame rate takes a bit of a hit when you turn the option on. But it's a feature that, like its amped-up combat, will please the game's core audience. If you're one of those folks, you'll enjoy what this sequel offers. Its various inconsistencies and visual deficits are obvious, but the fluid, heady action makes Ninja Gaiden II a great game.

Rostigt... mmm.

Mr. Itagaki is leaving Tecmo Co., Ltd. and not in good terms. He has filled a complaint in Tokyo District Courts agains Tecmo Co., Ltd for unpaid bonuses owed to him from finishing the Dead or Alive fighting game for the Xbox 360. This is sad a day for the Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive fans because he will no longer be a part of them.

My San Diego trip went bust, so I spent the weekend holed up in my apartment playing Ninja Gaiden II

My San Diego trip went bust, so I spent the weekend holed up in my apartment playing Ninja Gaiden II, the sequel to Ninja Gaiden on the original XBOX, and swan song for "rock star" game designer Tomonobu Itagaki, who bitterly left TECMO the day after NG2's publication.

I received much of what I anticipated: a ridiculous plot involving enchanted statues and slumbering demons, female characters who do their daily business in bustiers and knee-highs, and opponents who span the gamut of menace from deadly ninja leader to very angry armadillo. In other words-- a Japanese video game.

What I didn't expect was how much fun I'd have. With modern game designers leaning eagerly towards adjectives such as "cinematic" or "open-ended", it was nice to play an old-style game that has its priorities straight. Said priorities can be summed up in one indicative conditional statement: if a ninja wears metal claws for shoes, then he must only perform decapitations with his feet.

This is the sort of game I dreamed of playing when I was eight. Amazing graphics. Hard as hell. Thrilling to win. There is much to be said for games trying to be movies (Halo), games trying to be matchbox cars (GTA), or games trying to be Art (Shadow of the Collosus), but there is also something to be said for video games being ridiculous video games (or for anything being, ridiculously, what it is).

Many designers set out to make the Citizen Kane of games-- the famous One That Redefined The Medium. Itagaki set out to make a great game, much like Michael Curtiz set out to make a great movie. I'm not saying Ninja Gaiden II is the Casablanca of video games. That slot has yet to be filled... as does the horrifyingly awesome slot for Casablanca: The Video Game (hint hint, designers, hit X to let Ilsa leave, Y to get on the plane in her place). I'm just saying Ninja Gaiden II is a sterling example of the success one can achieve working within the boundaries of a chosen form. I'm sad to see Itagaki jobless and hope he lands, squarely after a metaphorical triple backflip of sorts, on his feet.
