But last night I was getting requests for songs that I didn't have on my main player.  I had to swap it out for my walking player, the one currently  full of The Hobbit and well, Nine Inch Nails.  A couple of songs I knew I didn't have on either player, but I refused to copy them over from someone else's player.  Why not, you ask?  I'm really not sure.  Something to do with not wanting help from anyone, plus my normal insensitivity to someone trying to give me something, plus my attempt to be needless but in reality obtuse.

This morning I'm adding every Nine Inch Nails song I have to my primary work mp3 player.  No more unrequestable Nine Inch Nails songs, and no more reasons to deny help from friends offering to give me musics.

Tô botando isso no blog, porque serve de documento do show também. Mas vou te mandar de email, que sei que tem uma probabilidade maior de nevar em Aracaju do que tu ir no meu blog. Isso é para te dizer que foi foda, mas o nosso guarda-costas oficial fez falta, principalmente quando conseguimos um lugar na quarta fileira e abriu um rodião durante March of the Pigs. Mas tu teria sentido orgulho da tatiana distribuindo cotovelaço. Eu juro que vi ela com um sorrizo quase demente no rosto enquanto levantava a perna para dar no rim de um gordo que foi na direção dela.

Mas fiquei com medo que atropelassem tua amiga, e no geral, ela não tava gostando da idéia de ficar na frente do carregamento de copos que voavam na nossa direção.

Tiago, tu fez falta neste show. Todas as minhas fantasias de ver NIN geralmente te incluiam do lado fazendo cordão de isolamento, ou se empolgando com algum detalhe que ninguém mais percebeu. Mas de alguma forma, fico feliz que vamos ver este show em momentos diferentes. Hoje, ainda que em espírito, tu tava lá com a gente. E todas as vezes que a gente ouviu, desde 1999, no teu carro, no meu carro, no carro dos outros, cds roubados, cds ripados, cds importados, cds perdidos e achados, todas as vezes que tu não entendia aquele cara que acabava as músicas tirando o sampler da tomada, bom, cara, hoje eu lembrei destas vezes. Então, aproveita pela gente de novo em outubro, ou novembro, ou sei lá quando que eles vão para porto alegre.

A banda tá foda, o visual tá inacreditável e acho que em alguns sentidos tu vai sair em vantagem, porque vai ter menos otário jogando copo pra cima em porto alegre. Mas isso é uma aposta. Ei, pelo menos hoje foi a minha vez de ser guarda costas de alguém. Não que a Tatiana precisasse. Na real, como eu te disse, eu tava preocupado é pelo próximo maluco que fosse chegar perto dela, pq a menina tava em ponto de MATAR o primeiro que fosse na direção dela (por exemplo, um cara chapado tentou furar fila por ela, ficou batendo nas costas dela, isso quando a gente já tava mais para trás no palco. Sabe o que a tati fez? DEU UMA COTOVELADA NO OLHO DELE). Tu acredita nisso?

Pois é, eu até deixei o cara passar depois dessa, me rindo, mas deixei. A Tati vai protestar aqui nos comentários, mas é só para demonstrar que ela é durona e nos deixou orgulhosos hoje. Por sinal, eu testemunhei ela dançando no final do show, só para não deixar ela te falar que ela não se divertiu.

*Politics: Daddy Yankee will be kicking off the RNC on Monday, and has officially endorsed John McCain as his presidential pick.

The show was at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, PA. The crowed was mature. Most of the people in my area were 30+ and many of them were die hard NIN fans wearing appropriate attire. We arrived two songs into the show. I blame that on the Wachovia Center for not having proper parking staff in the parking lot. Regardless, our seats were perfect. We were in section 108 which is middle of the stage and not on the floor.

The mix of sounds was amazing. This show was not all heavy metal rock. They played funkier songs and straight up electronic songs that would make any Biscuit head drool. They played metal songs that would please the vampires in the crowd and classic songs that would get girls going. I only know the popular NIN songs but it didn't matter. This show was awesome.

If anything, what we witnessed was the next era of digital stage shows. The lights and digitals displays combined with the bands ability to produce perfect sounds made up for an event we will never forget. The show was in Philadelphia and I am hoping that some of the band members from the Disco Biscuits made it to this event. If the Disco Biscuits could combine imagery to their songs, it would be the next level of sensory experience at a show.

Rebirth of Aura: Communal Recording in the Digital Age

It's an examination of cultural theorist Walter Benjamin's belief in the destruction of the aura of art through mechanical reproduction. The concept being that all art is a representation of an object so what you see or hear is not the object itself, but the artist's rendering of that artist. Even photography is merely a representation of the viewpoint of the photographer on the object being photographed.

My assuration is in an age of digital distribution, the aura of music may not only be preserved, but revived. Artists such as Fort Minor and Nine Inch Nails have allowed, at one time or another, fans access to multi-tracks of their respective songs allowing new creations, or new renderings of the artists work. So in this case, the art (music) isn't losing it's aura, so much as its idenitity is being recreated.

I'm hoping to take the concepts within and expand them into my thesis, so any thoughts would be appreciated.

No, what really pissed me off were the assholes that push up toward the front when the concert starts. We had main floor, just like Colleen had at The Palace on Saturday. And we got their early enough to be about five rows back center, and after the warm up band we managed to get up to about second row. It was pretty cool. I'd never been that close and I wanted to see a show close up for once at least part of it. But fucking A! Once the lights went down and the band came out there are these fuckers who just shove right up, trying to get up front, passed the people who staked out a spot early.

This bullshit is nothing new. And I know I probably sound like an old crank. But really, I could deal with people pushing up on me. That's to be expected. But it's these 6'4", 200lbs plus dudes that clearly have a fucking homo-erotic obsession with Trent. They just used their weight to press down on you. And I had three of them converging on me. I lasted one song and decided, fuck this shit! Colleen stayed, of course. You can't budge her.

I suppose I could have just lingered in the back. The view was fine. But I was so fucking pissed. I mean, I had a hard time breathing, I felt like I was about to be trampled. It pretty much induced a panic attack bording on low-grade PTSD. So I left the main floor and went all the way to the back and sat down on the floor with  my back against the wall.

Sitting there, I remembered why I didn't do this shit anymore. It isn't any fun!

Although when a guy tripping on acid sat down next to me it got a little interesting.

But then I saw the fat fuck in the sleeveless t-shirt with the mohawk that almost crushed me. I wanted to pull out my car keys, hold them between my fingers in a clenched fist and punch the prick right in the fucking throat. That was when I knew I had to get the hell out of there.

So I bolted, and walked around downtown Toledo.

It was a nice night, cool and breezy, bud damn that place is a dead town after dark, let me tell you. Probably would have been even deader if there hadn't been a Mud Hens' game going on. I really needed a smoke but could not find any place that sold cigarettes. So, I found the bar where Colleen and I ate before the show, had a beer and watched the end of the Tigers' game against Cleveland. Tigers fucking lost!

Shit night! Needless to say I will not be doing that again.
