Hal pertama yang perlu diperhatikan adalah mengenali terlebih dahulu kebutuhan kita, apakah SD card ini akan  dipakai pada gadget apa, apakah kamera digital, MP3 player, PDA atau lainnya. Setelah itu periksa kembali spesifikasi yang tertulis pada gadget tersebut untuk jenis SD card-nya, karena kita tidak mungkin memasang SD card yang spesifikasinya tidak sesuai. Selanjutnya tentukan kebutuhan akan kecepatan baca tulis dari SD card tersebut, tentunya semakin cepat SD card tersebut maka harganya akan semakin mahal.

Dalam perkembangannya, memori jenis SD ini telah memiliki 3 kelompok varian yaitu :

• SD memory card. Jenis memori yang paling populer ini memiliki kapasitas mulai dari 8 MB hingga yang tertinggi 4 GB, dengan format FAT16. Memori berukuran 24 x 34 mm dan ketebalan 2 mm ini dinamai secure (aman) karena telah memiliki Content Protection for Recordable Media (CPRM) untuk mencegah pembajakan media dan adanya Write-Protect tab yang mencegah penghapusan isi memori secara tidak sengaja.
• MiniSD dan MicroSD memory card. Dengan ukuran memori miniSD yang kecilnya hanya 20 x 21,5 mm dan microSD dengan ukuran 11 x 15 mm, memori jenis ini memang cocok untuk dipasang di ponsel atau MP3 player. Bagi yang ingin memakai memori miniSD / microSD pada peranti yang memiliki slot SD, maka diperlukan sebuah adapter (biasanya disertakan saat membeli miniSD / microSD).
• SDHC memory card. SDHC (SD High Capacity) adalah pengembangan selanjutnya dari SD card yang meski tidak merubah bentuk dan desain, namun kini kecepatan dan kinerjanya telah ditingkatkan dengan memakai format FAT32. SDHC card memiliki kapasitas mulai dari 4 GB hingga 32 GB. Untuk urusan kompatibilitas, satu hal yang perlu diingat bahwa bila perangkat kita telah mampu mendukung memori jenis SDHC, maka ia akan tetap kompatibel dengan memori SD biasa. Namun sebaliknya, jangan gunakan memori SDHC pada perangkat lama yang hanya mampu mengenali memori SD card.

Lantas bagaimana dengan kemampuan atau kecepatan baca-tulis dari SD card? Untuk menentukan ukuran kecepatan baca-tulis data, umumnya digunakan standar kelipatan 150 kB/s dimana sebelumnya cara ini umum dijumpai dalam mengukur kecepatan CD-ROM. SD card biasa memiliki kecepatan 6x (atau 6 x 150 kB/s) atau 900 kB/s, sementara SD card kecepatan sedang berada di kisaran 66x atau 10 MB/s, dan SD card kecepatan tinggi bisa mencapai 150x atau 22,5 MB/s. Perlu dicermati bahwa ini adalah kecepatan teoritis maksimal yang bisa dicapai oleh suatu memori namun tentu tergantung pada kemampuan maksimal dari perangkat yang digunakan. Juga perlu diingat kalau kecepatan maksimal ini adalah untuk kecepatan baca (read speed), sementara kecepatan tulis (write speed) akan berada di bawah itu.

Berikut tabel kecepatan maksimum yang umum dijumpai pada memori SD card, diambil dari Wikipedia.

Dengan hadirnya SDHC dengan kapasitas yang lebih tinggi dan memakai metode memory addressing yang berbeda dibanding SD card biasa (sector addressing vs byte addressing), SDHC memakai standar baru untuk menyatakan kecepatan, disebut dengan SD Speed Class Ratings. Peringkat kecepatan ini menyatakan kecepatan tulis minimum dimana terdapat tiga pembagian kelas yaitu :

• Class 2: 2 MB/s
• Class 4: 4 MB/s
• Class 6: 6 MB/s

Meski demikian ada saja produsen SDHC yang mengklaim kecepatannya berdasar kecepatan baca maksimum sehingga membingungkan calon pembeli (tidak seperti standar kelas / kecepatan tulis minimum yang dibuat untuk memudahkan pemakai). Mengingat kedepannya akan banyak peranti digital yang telah kompatibel dengan SDHC, maka sebelum membeli memori pastikan dulu perangkat tersebut kompatibel dengan SDHC kelas berapa, jangan sampai kamera digital masa depan mensyaratkan pemakaian SDHC kelas 4 namun anda membeli SDHC kelas 2.

Lantas untuk apa memakai memori berkecepatan tinggi? Utamanya tentu adalah untuk perangkat rekam video yang memiliki data bit rate yang tinggi (apalagi video resolusi HD) dan kamera digital yang fitur videonya sudah cukup baik. Namun pemakaian SD card kecepatan tinggi juga cocok untuk kamera DSLR yang sering dipakai dalam mode continuous shooting / burst mode. Tapi bila pemakaian SD card untuk keperluan memutar musik di MP3 player atau menyimpan data pada PDA, pemakaian SD card kecepatan biasa sudah mencukupi.

Hola! Que tal va todo muchachos???

Bueno pues aqui vengo a desangrar a mi ultima adquisición, nada más y nada menos que una Impresora Multifunción de la marca HP (una de mis favoritas sin duda).

La impresora, esteticamente, es bastante bonita; me explico.

Tiene una linea muy facilmente "engranable" (no se si existe esa palabra, pero vamos... pa entendernos) con su entorno en colores blanco y gris; a su vez cuenta con un panel frontal en el que se puede seleccionar las copias a realizar, opciones de la impresora y demas en una pequeña pantalla LCD de 1,5''. Todo esto para un flipadillo de cualquier cosa que lleve pantalla como yo le hizo no pensarselo sino decir "pa mi pa siempre".

La impresora cuenta con un panel tambien que nos permite introducir hasta 5 tipos diferentes de tarjetas de memoria, entre ellas, claro esta, la que prácticamente esta estandarizando el mundo de las memory cards, la mini-SD.

Esto, para aquella persona que es dada a trabajar mucho con fotos, ya sea para descargarlas al PC o simplemente por el hecho de querer tenerla impresa en papel satinado hace bastante comodo el trasiego entre ambos soportes.

La resolucion de la impresora llega hasta los 1920ppp, asi como imprime aproximandamente unas 30 paginas por minuto en blanco y negro, y unas 23 a color, otorgando una velocidad bastante elevada para ser una impresora no profesional, sino enfocada al ambito domestico.

Sus caracteristicas multifuncion nos dan ademas la opcion tanto de escanear como de fotocopiar documentos, dado lo cual el hecho engorroso de tener que salir un domingo por la tarde mientras cae un aguacero monumental buscando una tienda donde sacar una fotocopia del dichoso DNI porque hemos traspapelado la nuestra pasara a la historia :). Un punto a favor de HP.

El unico defecto que a priori le veo es que carece de puerto USB, pero vamos, que tampoco desaconsejaria su compra "solo" por eso, sino todo lo contrario.

En resumen un gran complemento a nuestro equipo informatico que no deberiamos dejar pasar asi como asi. Sea entonces que si necesitais renovar vuestra impresora, o simplemente necesitais una, esta es una gran opcion en cuanto a relacion calidad/precio, ya que la podeis encontrar desde unos 86€ aproximadamente, los cuales, en mi humilde opinion, los vale.

Durante el juego de Mario & Luigi - Partners in Time sucedió un error muy común para la flashcart SupeCard miniSD. Te presentamos la solución para seguir tus avances.

Puede contener algunos spoilers, así que recomiendo sólo abrir en caso de que hayas juntado dos o más Cobalt Star Shards.

¿Dónde ocurre?
Una vez que consigues tu segundo fragmento de la Cobalt Star, Baby Bowser te despoja de ellas y se dirige a la Isla de los Yoshi. Ahí tendrás que perseguirlo por todo lo alto de la montaña hasta donde te enfrentas contra Kamek.Una vez que derrotes a Kamek, te recomiendo regresar a salvar tu partida y luego proseguir tu aventura. Ya que una vez llegues contra Baby Bowser, detrás en el cielo podrás observar unas naves Shroobs que se detienen por que observan al Yoshi gigante tratando de escalar la montaña.

Es aquí donde se congela la imágen en la pantalla superior, aunque en la inferior todos los sprites y música siguen su curso.

¿Qué necesito?

¿Cómo lo soluciono?
1. Necesitas tener un rom limpio del videojuego Mario & Luigi - Partners in Time.

As I've said before, ultimately I knew it was important to go with the latest version of ActiveSync... especially since I am now using Outlook 2007 (rather than Outlook 2003 from the other laptop) in Vista.  I quickly found that ActiveSynce is NOT the method to be used for Vista setups.  Instead, it's necessary to install "Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1". I clicked on the link for the 32-bit software download and after a few minutes of "validation" that I had genuine OS software I was able to start the 12Mb download of software.

Unfortunately, running the software the first time (after registration) resulted in the sync process failing.  I tried renaming the default name for the PC in the "manage a partnership" field... no luck there.  Then, I started hunting around in the Motorola Q message boards and found others had suffered from the same problem for months.  It was very reminiscent of the infamous 0x85010014 error in ActiveSync - in fact, when going into the ActiveSync tool *on the phone*, it showed this error number when I selected "View Status" and then "View Support Code". <ugh!>

I couldn't find anything online with a simple way to fix the problem, but here is what WORKED for me using the best advice I could find elsewhere:

1. If at all possible, DO NOT connect your MotoQ to your Vista machine before installing the WMDC software (like I did).  If you've *already* done it, then perform the following:
   • For now, keep your MotoQ device connected
   • From the desktop, go to Start > Start Search
   • Enter "Device Manager" or "devmgmt.msc" to launch the Device Manager window
   • Look under the "Network adapters" node for "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter". Right-click "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" and choose to "Uninstall"
   • Disconnect the Motorola Q from the USB cable and set aside

2. Then, download the software as described above.  I recommend dropping it into your Downloads folder since if you have to go back and get it again, you'll need to "validate" that you have genuine Windows each time.
    
3. Follow the instructions found at http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/usb-advanced-functionality.htm to turn off the USB connection's "advanced" functionality (which actually causes part of the problem) on the MotoQ itself
    
4. THEN, (re)connect your MotoQ device via the USB cable to your laptop/PC
    
5. Finally, go to http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate and download the updates it recommends (mine installed 4 programs related to Outlook 2007)... your computer may require a reboot, so plan accordingly (just in case)

Whoa Nelly!  It worked for me.  No "master reset" necessary!!  <whew!>  As always, your mileage may vary.

Most music centric phones will have a microSD slot that allows you to add external storage.  You can find microSD cards in many sizes...512kb to 4gb.  Make sure you know the capacity of your phone before going with the 4gb size.  Only some phones have the capability to read that size of a card!

Data cables are handy for transferring music, photos, documents and such, but are not necessary.  If you have gone into a wireless store, they will try to up sale you on the data cable.  If you don't have a microSD or miniSD slot, then you obviously need the data cable to transfer files to your phone.

If you are cool enough to have a phone that does have the microSD card slot, then you are golden!  It's a simple process of using the adapter that comes with the card and placing them into your computer.  Your computer will now "see" the card as an external storage device.  Now all there is to do is to drag and drop your music onto the card, pull it out and place it into your phone........now you got your fill of MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice!  Ice Ice Baby.

Right now, cell phones have it pretty good; most of them use MicroSD cards that are pretty interchangeable between cell phones. However, you might need to reformat the card depending on the different phones you use with it. But still, that's pretty good. A few use MiniSD cards, which can be a little bigger, and then of course, there are the Sony Ericsson cell phones that use a mobile version of the Memory Stick. We won't have to worry about the new storage format until 2009, but for it truly to be "universal," a lot of companies have to all be on board. My question is if they really wanted a storage format that fits all cell phones (let alone all mobile devices, which, while nice, is a little ambitious), why doesn't everyone just get on the MicroSD format bus?

Play it, view it, organize it, or sync it to a portable device for enjoying on the go, or share with devices around your home—all from one place.

All the explanation about the new "Enjoy Everywhere" feature can be found here. Keep in mind that it's a hefty download (25Mb). Once downloaded, the software requires validation of your windows system... which only takes a few moments. The installation itself takes several minutes depending upon the speed of your computer.

Once Windows Media Player launches, click on the Sync button. If you've got a MiniSD card, it'll show up as a separate choice in the list of sync devices. Keep this in mind, because you'll likely want to sync with your "Storage Card" and not the free memory in your Q. Since the Sync feature won't remove all the files you copied over using ActiveSync, you'll need to "undo" it before syncing. Don't assume if you've accidently (or intentionally) put your music in a directory of /Music on your card that it'll work... the index needs to be created. It might be better to copy the files back to your PC using ActiveSync (if they're not there already), but the player on the Q does have a feature to add all files to its library (didn't try this).

Before you sync too many times, be sure to open up the Properties window and set the Quality to your liking (I haven't experimented with what sounds good vs. what fits on the memory card but the default settings are "best quality"). This feature can be found by clicking on the Sync tab pull-down, then the target device, and the "Advanced Options..." from the fly-out. The picture at the left shows the settings I chose. Your mileage may vary.

If you set up Playlists in the Media Player you might choose to grab the entire playlist, drag, and drop it into the Sync field. You can also set up the Sync to kill everything on your Q's storage area and put a brand new set of songs in "shuffle" mode onto your device. Sometimes conversion to play on the MotoQ is required, but thankfully the sync continues while other files get converted (although only one file can be sync'd at a time).

Another choice that I haven't tried yet is to automatically sync whenever the device is connected. I'd imagine this feature is useful, but only if you plan on leaving your Q connected for the requisite period of time. I found that deleting the existing files and syncing the new files took more time than for which I'd typically connect while syncing my calendar for Outlook. I'm choosing to specifically sync whenever I have the time.

There is still so much to learn about this. Hopefully you'll share your experiences too.

Of course, I failed to go re-read the posting before finally embarking on the process... which could have save me some trouble since the comments to that posting give some great insight as to the process. I was lucky... I carefully read the instructions and installed the driver first. Then, and only then, did I run the install software on my laptop. Note that NOTHING happens to the MotoQ during these two steps. Only after following these two steps do you connect your Motorola Q device itself. Of course the Active Sync software starts up when I attached the device, so you've got to stop the sync (or wait until it completes I guess) before progressing. The 2nd step installs a shortcut on the desktop called "Motorola Software Update". Launch that application and follow the instructions. The photo above shows what happens on the PC and the screen of the Motorola Q itself.

If it were only that easy. The phone booted up and I synced my Outlook contacts and calendar without an issue. BUT, when I went to actually *use* my phone, it was not associating with the Verizon Wireless network and forced me into a high-charge roaming provider. So, I logged into my Verizon account on www.verizonwireless.com and "reactivated" my "replacement" phone and followed THOSE instructions... success!

Please note that upgrading the ROM wipes everything on the phone. So, if you've got ringtones and applications loaded, they all go away. All your email settings are gone. And, all the behavior settings get reset. Here's the GOOD NEWS... anything on your MiniSD card remains intact! That means all my audio files and cameraphone photos remained untouched (just remember to configure the cameraphone to use the storage card again).

WHY UPGRADE? Besides the stated improvements (e.g. support for Frames within the browser), the BEST reason to upgrade is that the new ROM is snappy fast. Taking photos with the cameraphone in clearly faster and navigating through menus means less lag time between screens. The one new thing that I'm going to dig into further is a new Accessory application... a built-in "modem-link" app. More on that in a post here on the blog!

• If you use your cameraphone and want the highest resolution pictures (1.3 megapixels) AND you have installed a miniSD memory card, then be sure to change the default storage location for new pictures and videos. Follow these instructions:
  • In the Start menu, find and click on Pictures & Videos
  • In Thumbnail view go to Menu > Options > Camera
  • Choose the option “Save files to: Storage Card”
  • You *might* also want to change the compression value from high quality to Low or Normal, but I'd chose not to
• Sometimes you have launched a lot of applications over time and they're still running in memory. It's worth cleaning these up periodically. To do so, follow these instructions:
  • In the Start menu, find and click on System Tools
  • The, find and click on Task Manager
  • Either go to Menu > Kill All or choose an application that you don't need active at the ment and go to Menu > Kill
• You might also want to check your email client's Sent Items. If you've set the option to save your sent emails, then all those pictures you've emailed are saved as attachments in the local memory. Enter your email inbox and go to Menu > Folders > Sent Items. Then use Menu > Delete for each item you highlight... it's pretty easy to just repeat these all the way through the list.
• I've also found that the device slows down when downloading very large attachments. Since I don't want to have to download files later, I suffer through this. Just know that if the in/out arrows over the signal strength meter are showing, you'll have (more or less) slower speeds than normal in the other Pocket PC applications until the d/l is over.

I've chosen not to use ActiveSync to keep the audio files synced between my MotoQ and my PC, for now. I find it's pretty easy just to use a drag/drop interface on my PC to change things up when I want.

To play with the speaker settings, follow these instructions:

• In the Start menu, find and click on Accessories
• Find and click on Audio Enhancement > Phone Speaker
• From this screen you can adjust the following speaker settings along a scale of 1-5:
  • Surround Sound (default 2)
  • Bass (default 4)
  • Clarity (default 3)

There is also a setting for headphones. I haven't splurged for a set that fits the input, but my Sony earbud leftover from the Blackberry works fine, albeit not in stereo, for discreet listening. Personally, I think I'll just hold out for the Motorola HT820 Stereo Headphones. Very cool!
