Tras esta segunda semana de prácticas en el diario ABC, hoy ha sido el primer día en el que ha aparecido publicada una noticia mía. La información, sobre la exposición Ojos Privados: Colección Laurence Miller, que se puede visitar en la Fundación Foto Colectania de Barcelona, aparece publicada en la página 67 del diario, dentro de la sección cultura y Espectáculos.

Una alegría para terminar esta semana, en la que también he visitado el estudio del arquitecto y diseñador Juli Capella para hacerle una entrevista para un texto que espero que publiquen un día de éstos. La entrevista fue muy divertida, y Capella me regaló el libro de la exposición 300% Spanish Design que organizó en la Expo de Aichi, además de enseñarme el gran archivo de diseños que tiene en su estudio.

            “Well…”

            “What?” asks Kaitlyn. “Good or bad?”

            “You know that sweepstakes we entered last month,” she started, “that’d get us 1 million dollars and a trip to Mexico?”

            “What happened?” Xander asks.

            “And how only one family, four people, would win, out of millions and millions...”

            “What about it?” Garrett asks.

            “We won.”

            The Miller family was much larger than the Bergs, with four children, rather than only two. They had many connections with the Bergs, though.

            The father is Colby Oliver Miller. He’s in his early forties, is somewhat skinny, with a black buzz cut and piercing blue eyes. He wears many 3-piece suits, mostly because he’s a lawyer, with his brother Alberto, at Miller & Miller Law. He himself has no connections to the Bergs, though.

            The mother, Leilani, is somewhat older than her husband, with short black hair, much like his, and brown eyes and a very smooth face. She never has really been a huge fan of makeup, but wears some when appropriate.  She doesn’t wear much jewelry besides her wedding ring, but she does have three ear piercings. She’s a small time fashion designer, and used to work with the Berg’s mother, Larissa.

            Malachi, the youngest son, is twelve, and somewhat short and scrawny. He has spiked hair, black just like everyone else in the family. He wears dark colors, baggy sweats usually, and never really socializes. His only friend is Garrett. He’s always been very secluded, and gets in many fights. And by fights, yes I mean fist-fights, not petty arguments.

            The next oldest son is Leo Fernando Miller. He’s fourteen, and also dark like his younger brother. In fact, he and his brother are pretty similar all-around, looks and personality. He has brown eyes, and longish black hair, in a bed head cut. He has absolutely no friends, and the only times he socializes is when he plays Drum Hero with Malachi and Garrett, but only does it because of the game, not because of the people. He actually hates the people. He’s dating Garrett’s sister, Kaitlyn, which can cause some uncomfortable moments between them. He has some anger issues, but always refuses therapy and classes.

            The second oldest is Kathleen, who is sixteen, tall, skinny, with blue eyes and long midnight black hair. She’s a typical vain teenage girl, always worried about her appearance, worried about who likes who, and all that stuff. She’s the normal “popular” girl. Garrett has a crush on her, and she’s still pretending not to know.

            The oldest, a twenty-one-year-old, tall, muscular, well-put-together, brown eyed, black military cut hair, average father-clone, is Gerald Reese Miller. He’s in college right now, studying to be a lawyer. He never really had much of a connection with the Bergs, but is one of the only ones to notice how creepy the connections are. It’s as if, together, they’re the Biller family, or Merg family. He has moved out on his own.

            Just like every day, Leilani is on the computer, while everyone else does their thing, and she opens up an interesting email, the subject box saying “Wahoo!” She opens it, and it says the Bergs have won a trip to Mexico and a million dollars, as she’s walking to the front room to tell everyone, there is Gerald at the door.

            “Guys, I have some news.”

Casey-Westfield did not even let Thomason and Miller win any of their own matches, however, as the Lady Trojans were swept 9-0.

“We played a hard fought match, taking many games to deuce, but in the end Casey could place the ball better than we could,” coach Eric Bright said.

Miller was moved up one spot today for the No. 2 spot, but was not able to handle Shelby Lakins, who beat her 6-1, 6-2. Thomason did not fare any better at the top spot, getting shut out in both of her sets by Meagan Ramsay.

The only player to almost take a game from Casey-Westfield was Kaitlin Nead, who took her second set to a seventh game before losing 6-0, 7-5.

In doubles play, the team of Thomason and Gretchen Richardson were the only team from Charleston to take more than two games from their opponents. The pair came within two games in the second set before losing 6-2, 6-4.

Even though they lost, Bright said that Casey-Westfield coach Brad Hickox noticed the power of the teams serves.

“The Casey coach did comment on the power of our serves and how even our second serves had some kick, so our serving work in practice is paying off,” Bright said.

Bright also added that the team still needs to work on the groundstrokes.

The junior varsity team will finish out their season tomorrow against Teutopolis at home at 4:15 p.m., while the varsity team will travel to Mattoon on Wednesday for their final varsity match at 4 p.m.

SILVERSTEIN POST NEW DEMO: "BROKEN STARS"

 Silverstein have posted a new demo titled "Broken Stars" as they continue to write for their next full-length.

The band, who last released Arrivals & Departures in 2007 via Victory, will leave for a co-headlining tour with Chiodos a week from today.

Zdaniem ekspertów to dopiero początek szału konsumpcji. Ale podobno firmy spożywcze najlepsze czasy mają jeszcze przed sobą. Więc recesja nam jeszcze chyba nie grozi...

In seven of the sets, The Lady Shoes allowed less than one game to be won. Leah Westjohn was able to shut out Ashley Miller, while Michelle Probst only allowed one game to Amanda Thomason.

In doubles play, the Lady Trojans were able to hold Teutopolis a bit closer, taking two games to a tie-break and winning a set in the Nead sister's match. They lost the third set in a best of 12 tie-break, 7-4.

"Both our No. 2 and No. 3 doubles had good games taking many games from T-town, but couldn't quite pull out the win," coach Eric Bright said.

Charleston hosts the Apollo Conference tournament this weekend and then their final varsity home match, Senior Night, on Monday against Casey-Westfield at 3:30.

SARATOGA SPRINGS - Mike D'Antoni ran the Knicks' first practice Tuesday, which already gives him an edge on his predecessor, Isiah Thomas. When training camp opened last year, Thomas was in a Manhattan courtroom fighting a sexual harassment charge.

Madison Square Garden lost the case. The Knicks lost their season.

PREVIOUS: TRACING D'ANTONI'S ROOTS

"The atmosphere is more about basketball," forward Malik Rose said. "And that's good."

The arduous task for D'Antoni and Knicks president Donnie Walsh is to try to reestablish a winning culture at the Garden. The once proud franchise, which Reggie Miller last year called "a league-wide joke," has not won a playoff game since 2001. The core group of players D'Antoni inherited has produced more controversies than wins over the past few years. The Knicks play and act like a team that has suffered through seven straight losing seasons.

"They want hope," D'Antoni said following the team's morning practice at Skidmore College. "They are good basketball players and somewhere they played very well. Whatever happened when they got together, it became a little dysfunctional last year. They don't want that. They want to be a cohesive group. They want to believe in something. My job is to keep them there. Keep them focused. Even if we lose four in a row you've got to be able to overcome that. You can't become negative."

That was the new coach's message to his players when they met Monday night. D'Antoni even talked about the 1973 Knicks, the franchise's last championship team. That club was regarded as a selfless group that played with one goal in mind: winning basketball.

In recent years, the Knicks have been about changing coaches - D'Antoni is their fourth in five years, not counting interim coach Herb Williams - acquiring players who don't mesh and making headlines for everything from Stephon Marbury going AWOL to salacious lawsuits. Some players are tired of being the butt of jokes.

"We're not going to erase the past all in one day," David Lee said, "but we're starting off on the right foot. There is a lot of positive energy."

D'Antoni is an upbeat personality whose up-tempo style of play makes him popular inside the locker room. He was encouraged by the players' attitude and attention to detail on the first day, before adding, "Get back to me in November."

Indeed, there could a few brush fires D'Antoni will have to stomp out. Marbury's future remains uncertain, and there are other issues that could disrupt the club, including the contract status of Lee and Nate Robinson.

"There's always something," said Rose.

Quentin Richardson, who played for D'Antoni in Phoenix, believes he and his teammates have no choice but to change their attitude.

"We had players trying to do it their way and Coach couldn't get his point across," Richardson said. "We failed doing it our way. We now realize that we have to put 100% into what Coach D'Antoni wants us to do. That's the only way we'll be successful."

EDDY ILL: Eddy Curry, who arrived for camp in poor shape, missed the first day of practice due to a bacterial infection. Curry was taken to Saratoga Hospital for evaluation and prescribed antibiotics. He will be out at least one more day. "You know what, I heard he was throwing up and everything, so, it's a great way to lose weight," D'Antoni said. ... The Knicks revealed that first-round pick Danilo Gallinari is suffering from a bulging disk in his back. The team is confident that Gallinari, who has been out since mid-July, will practice by the end of the month.

One industry source told just-drinks today that a de-merger of Foster's' beer and wine divisions looked likely. "They pretty much hoisted the 'for sale' flag over the business by announcing a strategic review [of the wine business]."

The source said that there would be "a large number of people in the industry" interested in the Foster's beer division.

Heineken and SABMiller have been touted as potential suitors. SAB declined to comment to just-drinks today, while a Heineken spokesperson was unavailable.

My money's on SAB.

SLD nazywa sie partią lewicową zupełnie bezpodstawnie. Zarówno podczas sprawowania rządów w koalicji z PSL w latach 1993-97 oraz 2001-2005, jak i w latach opozycji, SLD było stowarzyszeniem obrony życiowych interesów postpezetperowskiej nomenklatury i ich dzieci. Przez blisko 20 lat tzw lewica postkomunistyczna nie była w stanie zdefiniować własnego, lewicowego programu, właściwego dla obecnej Polski w jednoczącej się UE. Rządzenie w wykonaniu delegowanych do rządu apparatczyków z SDRP a póżniej z SLD polegało na relizacji skrajnie liberalnej polityki ekonomicznej, w Europie uprawianej właściwie po raz ostatni za rządów Margaret Thacher, braku spójnej polityki społecznej, która ograniczono do głoszenia potrzeby działań filantropijnych i różnych wolontariatów oraz do pragmatycznej polityki zagranicznej, gdzie stosunkowo zanotowano dobre osiągnięcia dla kraju. Główne narzędzia rządzenia SLD pozostały takie same, jakie stosowała PZPR w PRL-u : propaganda i polityka kadrowa, polegająca na szerokim stosowaniu korupcji i nepotyzmu na skalę, nie znaną wcześniej nawet w PRL-u. Stąd poziom demoralizacji kadr kierowniczych PZPR a potem SLD zachował ciągłość, bo często były to zachowania przejęte w spadku po starszych towarzyszach. Zauważmy, że aktyw kierowniczy SDRP, a póżniej SLD, rekrutowany był z czołowych działaczy młodzieżowych, przybudówek PZPR: SZMP, SZSP, SZMW. Stąd wywodzili się: Kwaśniewski, Szmajdziński, Jaskiernia, Czarzasty i wielu innych. Działacze ci zasilili także inne partie,mn. Karski zasilił PiS, Byli oni naznaczani do robienia kariery partyjnej przez najwyższe kierownictwo PZPR. Kwaśniewski pospołu z Millerem naznaczali kolejnych "działaczy", stanowiących obecne kierownictwo SLD w tym Napieralskiego i Olejniczaka. Bezideowcy zastąpili starych, skompromitowanych bezideowców. Są to dość niebezpieczni ludzie, bo gotowi na wszystko dla zachowania kariery i apanaży. Gotowi są do robienia interesów z PiSem, tak jak ostatnio zrobił to Napieralski z prezydentem Kaczyńskim w sprawie podziału mediów pomiędzy PiS a SLD. W najbliższym czasie zobaczymy, na czym ten deal polegał. Wtedy objawi nam się prawdziwy obraz czarnego cynizmu tych ludzi, który za kilka (naście) stanowisk w mediach sprzedali lewicowych wyborców. Kiedy mówię o cynizmie tzw.działaczy lewicowych, to przywołuję w pamięci obrazy z przeszłości, kiedy na własne oczy widziałem ich w akcji. Nigdy nie zapomnę tej sceny. Było to w 1972 lub 1973 roku, kiedy będąc młodym podporucznikiem w LWP, zostałem wyznaczony przez dowódctwo jednostki, aby w niedzielę zebrać żołnierzy i poprowadzić do miasta na wspólny czyn z młodzieżą, nalężaca do miejscowej organizacji SZMP. Wielkie było moje zdziwienie, kiedy przybywszy na miejsce, zastałem …… jednego członka z miejskiej SZMP, w osobie jej przewodniczącego, który trzymał w rękach kilkanaście łopat i szpadli dla naszych żołnierzy, aby pracowali w ramach czynu. Zapytałem się wówczas przewodniczącego, czy z jego strony będzie więcej ludzi. Odpowiedział , że nie. Wówczas podziękowałem mu i razem z żołnierzami, powróciliśmy do jednostki, pozostawiając przewodniczącego na miejscu z łopatami. Od tamtej pory, jak pamiętam, żołnierze z jednostki nigdy nie uczestniczyli w tego rodzaju czynach społecznych. Nigdy nie zapomnę kpin naszych lotników, kiedy wozili samolotami, tzw. salonkami z firankami, przewodniczącego SZMP Jaskiernię, i przyrównywali go do Breżniewa z racji podobnego, dygnitarskiego stylu. Nie zapomnę też tych działaczy SZMP, a póżniej ministrów w wolnej RP, kiedy widziałem ich w 1988 roku kompletnie zapijaczonych w miejscu publicznym w towarzystwie miejscowych prostytutek.

Napieralski i jego świta to są następcy tych ludzi. Dlatego też ludzie lewicy w Polsce winni pilnie podjąć działania, aby stworzyć alternatywę dla SLD, aby powstała taka partia lewicowa, która nie będzie kupczyć interesem wyborców i nie będzie układać się z ludżmi z obozu Kaczyńskich. Apeluję do Włodzimierza Cimoszewicza, do Marka Borowskiego, do działaczy z kręgu lewicy „Solidarnościowej”, takich jak Józef Pinior, Karol Modzelewski, Bogdan Lis czy Władysław Frasyniuk - nastał czas na powstanie lewicy polskiej. Nie ma sensu dalej rozmawiać z SLD – oni wybrali się w podróż donikąd.

With the refinements that come with maturity the smells faded out, to be replaced by only one other distinctly memorable, distinctly pleasurable smell-the odor of the cunt. Beside her was a little lamp with a smoked chimney and beside the lamp two curling irons the very sight of which filled me with an inexplicable loathing.

Een plaatje dat alweer een paar weken op de markt is, maar waar elke liefhebber van de basgitaar zo`n beetje zwaar van zal gaan kwijlen.
S.M.V. staat namelijk voor Stanley Clarke, Marcus Milller en Victor wooten. Zo`n beetje de 3 meest toonanngevende (nog in leven zijnde) basgitaristen van de laatste 3 decenia. Stanley Clarke als "de" fusion bassist van de jaren `70. Marcus Miller die in de jaren `80 groot geworden is in de band van Miles Davis en zijn latere solo werk en soundtracks. en dan victor Wooten, de man die op dit moment de koning der basgitaristen is.
Deze drie mannen hebben nu dus samen een plaat opgenomen. Daarbij hebben ze alle drie nieuw werk geschreven en het resultaat is verbluffend.
Ik was van tevoren een beetje bang voor al teveel gefreak en het "kijk mij eens snel thumpen" syndroom. Maar gelukkig, niets van dat alles. De drie spelen lekker samen en in dienst van elkaar. Er is ruimte voor alle stijlen en elke bassist komt aan de beurt.
Overigens zijn de ondersteunende muzikanten ook niet niks. Ik kom o.a. Chick Corea, George Duke, Ronald Bruner jr. en Butterscotch tegen.
Het resultaat is een bijzonder aangenaam en vernieuwend plaatje dat ergens hangt tussen funk, fusion en jazz. Een absolute aanrader deze cd.

Dietro il sibillino titolo si nasconde il nuovo corso che da oggi intraprende il nostro blog.
Come ogni storia che si rispetti, anche Ruby Soho ha un'inizio, e fortunatamente quell'inizio coincide con la Tavola N° 1 (che culo eh?)...

Visto il rischio di scadere nella banalità, abbiamo deciso di iniziare a lavorare sulle tavole partendo dalla 10....
Geniale, non trovate?
In realtà, al di là, delle battute del lunedì mattina, il fatto è che la "storia" inizia effettivamente da quel punto, mentre le tavole precedenti sono introduttive... una sorta di prologo..

Così, anche per chiarezza nei vostri confronti, lavoriamo sulle tavole in ordine narrativo, e allo stesso modo ve le faremo vedere..

La tavola 30-31 era un assaggio; da oggi ricominciamo dalla tavola 10 (che già avevamo pubblicato mesi fa), anche questa nella doppia versione b/n e color, e andiamo avanti mostrandovi volta per volta il nostro work in progress...

Insomma: il blog diventa una vera e propria officina; più avanti vi delizieremo anche con qualche filmato, per mostrarvi passo per passso le tecniche grafiche che utilizziamo.
