On November 19, your Xbox 360 consoles will never be the same. The New Xbox Experience will change the way you get to have fun at home. Gamers will be able to create their own Mii-like characters just like people do with their Wii, with more detailed features to create unique characters. This NXE is aimed at casual gamers who are most likely to use their console for use other than just gaming. Of course, if there are people who like the current interface, they can choose to go back to it if they are not satisfied with the new NXE one. For harcore gamers, Microsoft will offer another expansion pack for Halo 3 (Halo 3 : Recon) as well as some exclusive games to the console. Now that Microsoft is selling more consoles than before worldwide, will they be able to be number one against the current champion, Nintendo? Take a look at the pictures.

Alright, listen, I’m a nerd. I game, play games online, discuss games online, need I continue?

Alright, listen, I'm a nerd. I game, play games online, discuss games online, need I continue? So if you don't want to read about gaming news...oh well. Not that many people visit the site anyways.

http://www.current.com.au/2008/09/26/article/XPNMJPZSEI.html

The 360's new dashboard! Good or bad? I don't know. I'll be straight forward. I do not, at all, care for all the glitter and polish. I expect my 360 to let me play games, and that's about it. I expect the same from my Wii and future PS3. So lets see what they're adding, and I'll give my opinion as we go down the list.

#1: “With this new dashboard experience you will be able to install the entire game onto the hard drive, and by using the disc you can initiate the game start up, which allows to you to have even quicker load times, an even quieter box and even better experience.”

Yeah, I don't really care. I still use the standard 20 GB HDD that game with my 360, so it's not like a can install lots of games on my HDD anyway. Seriously though, are loading times really THAT bad? Is it so horrible to have to wait a few seconds? The PS3 went overboard on the subject, forcing gamers to sit through horrendously long install times. Just give me multiple disks, I'm not that lazy that I can't get up to change the disk. I don't care about disk changing. Just let me play my game right away. So yeah, I'm neutral. >_>

#2: “There is a 3D element to the visuals and experience and is part of the new wow factor, the avatars have depth, the whole Dashboard has a 3D look and feel.

As said, I couldn't care less about the shiny things they put on. How long do people spend looking at their dashboard, really? I see mine long enough to put in a disk, which is like a minute at most.

#3: “When you log in you get to the My Xbox Channel, you will see your gamer score, your avatars and game achievements, but it’s laid out in a way that all of the experiences are pushed out right in front of you — it is so user friendly.”

Do not EVER use the terms "pushed right in front of you" and "user friendly" in the same sentence. I'm expecting some chaotic mess of unnecessary gimmicks.

#4: “Customisation of avatars is off the charts, you can make them look as much like you, or not like you, as you want. You can add hats, clothing, if you’re a female you can add a purse, lipstick, there are endless amounts of customisation.”

First, I realized they spelled "customization" wrong in the article. Funny. Anyway, listen Microsoft. The Wii's Mii program was fun for like, the first half an hour. After that, it just got pointless. You say yours has accessories and crap. Yay, yours will be fun for like an hour.

#5: “In your online community, all your friends are right there represented by their avatars and above their head it will tell you what they’re doing, whether playing a game, watching a movie or sharing photos, so you can jump into that experience with your friends.

I'm pretty sure I could do most of that before. Only now I have to see their big head staring back at me. Are you trying to scare me Microsoft?

#6: “Imagine an open plan community with all these avatars interacting and from there I can get a group of my friends to create a party to enhance the community experience and we can all go from one experience to the next, from playing a game together, to sharing photos, sharing videos, having a chat, and doing all these different things.”

So it's like home, but without the crappy Second Life experience? You sold me Microsoft, bring the future. I can't wait to talk to my friends, look at pictures, and watch movies on my gaming console!

So yeah, in conclusion, this update is pointless. Gaming consoles should first and foremost be for gaming. This is clearly not.

Unlike Lonelygirl15, whom we have seen to be as being less than authentic and less than credible, I

Unlike Lonelygirl15, whom we have seen to be as being less than authentic and less than credible, I know who I am. For our class, we were discussing the idea of online identity, and whether or not our online identities construct who we are in reality.

In my case, I, in my real persona, am my online identity. I could never imagine being someone other than who I am, both online and offline. This is why I construct all of my online personas (avatars, if you will) to better resemble how I look in real life. Therefore, my alternative ID is me, whereas Lonelygirl15 is nothing more than an actress in front of a camera, not a girl moping incessantly on Youtube.

As a man seeking military service, I am a combat writer: simply put. I write about what I know and what I'm very good at. I write of war, battle, siege, death, political scandal, and military maneuver, while intermingling such ideas with snippets of romance, betrayal, love, passion, and yes, even sex. Why? Because I have the freedom to do so, because it is my choice, because I have the power, and because I feel I have the obligation to do so to give back to a particular videogame community. No one can affect my stories and my ideas but me. No one can write my stories in the manner I wish but me. No one can wage the wars I do as well as I can but me.

I first got started writing when I came across a particular story-posting website known as the Grey Archive. The site contained a variety of stories, most of which contained at least one or two romance scenes and sexually-explicit moments known as "lemons" (why, I have no idea). I found two stories on Command & Conquer, Westwood Studios' smash-hit military strategy computer game series, while browsing the site, read them both, and was appalled. I wondered how anyone could mar my treasured series in this manner, though it was their freedom to do so. So, I motivated myself to pick up my pen in Spring of 2002 and began writing. I started with a simple school notebook and a pen, writing down entire paragraphs as the timeline of two, three, innumerable wars played out in my head.

It took me four months to write my first story, and two months to type it into a word processor. So began my writing career. My process for writing began with a notebook in which I would write a story before transferring it to a word processor, then sending it in to the lead moderator at Grey Archive. The longest it ever took me to write a story was a few months, the shortest only two days (while bored out of my mind at Boys' State 2002). I wrote roughly ten or eleven stories before finally having my word processor-typed stories catch up to my written work. I went through several notebooks, many sleepless nights, and permanent skin discoloration on my left hand (being I am left-handed when I write) before I finally dropped the notebooks altogether and decided to stick to a word processor to type. Much easier.

However, a problem which became clear to me so late was that I would type a story, send it into Grey Archive, then edit it. When I would find a new mistake, I would resend my story to the moderator, and then I'd find another mistake after correcting the corrected version. I think I once sent the first story I wrote into the website five or six times: not exactly a way to make friends with a site's moderator when he's paying for the site out of his own pocket. Another problem I discovered about three years ago was the fact that I was drifting away from the plotline as portrayed in the Command & Conquer videogames. Battles were out of order, characters were misplaced between stories, and generally, I was unsatisfied with my work as I grew up and became more mature. In truth, I was doing exactly what the two Grey Archive C&C stories were doing to my beloved series: I was marring my own work and disrespecting my C&C community by losing my objectivity for realism and military authenticity, something I always look for in military-related videogames, and something I am always angry about when it is lacking.

Over the course of the past six years, I wrote over twenty stories, each averaging fifty pages in length, until Grey Archive was shut down since the moderator could not afford to pay for the site. Twice so far, I have "revamped" my work, discarding my old stories for writing new ones which are more intuned with the games' plots, as well as more militarily authentic and accurate. Currently, I have several thousand pages of ideas lined up for my upcoming stories, but due to time constraints, I have little time to type my work anymore.

Also, I have changed the venue of where my work is published. I figured that if I control my writing, I should control where I post it. Therefore, I decided to post my stories to my DeviantArt page. This will allow me the freedom to post, edit, and remove a story as I see fit, without owing anyone any money or paying anyone any favors. Though, I still worry about my lack of free time to myself. Sometimes, I feel as though I'm running out of time to finish my work.

Nevertheless, I write. I write so that I may tell the war of Command & Conquer accurately, authentically, as the war should be told.

Gamepro has just discovered something that may change your view of Nintendo. Just read on and find out.

Lest we become too lax and believe the console avatar market was sewn up by Nintendo's pop icon the Mii, Rare was on hand Thursday to claim they thought of the idea first.

Mii's? Totally not original, says Rare.

Contrary to popular belief, Rare was not ordered to copy Nintendo's wildly successful Mii strategy by a desperate Microsoft. There was no last minute order to create Xbox avatars as a response to Nintendo's everybody-friendly Mii's, and Nintendo certainly didn't think of the idea before Rare.

At least, that's the spin being given the whole story by Rare this week. Take it or leave it, the developers at Microsoft-owned Rare said it was all just a matter of coincidental timing.

"The planets just aligned a little bit," said Rare artist Lee Musgrave in a video interview with Eurogamer TV. "It was an idea that we had before Miis were a part of the gaming scene."

According to the info set forth in the interview, rather than being a knee-jerk reaction to Miis, Rare was working on customizable characters and ways to implement them into Xbox 360 games long before the first upside-down face Mii marched in a Mii Parade.

"Microsoft did not turn up in a speeding car one day and say, 'They've got Miis! Do something!'" Musgrave said.

The whole thing begs a hypothetical, however. If the everyone-friendly Wii wasn't hands-down the best selling, most popular video game console on the planet right now, would Microsoft have bothered with Rare's experimental avatars at all?

There are so many options for crafting avatars that Mediasapien decided to kick the tires and road test some of them. Using a decidedly unscientific protocol, each will be put to the test using a single person as the model. Since many of these apps are geared towards kids and tweens, there are plenty of options for making slender, emo-ish, Jonas Brothers and Miley inspired avi’s. So in order to make the test challenging, we’ll pick a person who is generally familiar looking but definitely not a typical user of avatar-based games and entertainment - someone older, rounder, less willowy. Naturally I’m talking about the Hedgehog himself, Ron Jeremy. Ron is a beautiful Adonis of a man, with an amorous appetite to match. The years may have tried their best to curse him, but he defies the ravages of time – mostly. His hairline may be receding a bit and his ‘stashe peppered with grey, his belly may be a few inches larger than in his glory days, but he still retains all the charm and charisma for which he is known – his 9 3/4” dick (unverified).

So RJ is the perfect model for our test. Some of the apps will handle the Hedgehog with ease, while many others simply don’t offer wide enough options. Few if any will include his "charm". Here are some of my results:

Mr. Picasso Head

This was definitely one of the most fun Flash games that mediasapien came across while researching this story. Using only elements found within Picasso's actual artworks, a surprisingly wide range of people can be created. The added bonus of adding any signature in the artist's hand is a nice touch.

And finally… Apparently the best example of a Ron Jeremy avatar has been right under our noses for nearly 25 years, first appearing way back in 1983. Known to just about every gamer ever, he is more commonly referred to as “Mario” and may very well represent the earliest example of a famous person or celebrity to be enshrined in the glow of game pixels. Ron Jeremy - The original Mediasapien!

The results of this test are a mixed bag, but it's far from finished. There will be plenty more to come, including Ron Jeremys built in Second Life, Tiger Woods, and more. And if you have any RJ Avi's that you want to show off, send mediasapien a link and we'll post it.

It was Christmas mo

**Comments were inadvertently locked for this post and have now been unlocked.**

It was Christmas morning yesterday at the Page house...after much discussion, we purchased a Wii today along with Wii Fit and Rock band. These items are mine and Ed's Christmas gifts to each other. We bought them now because a) Target had them on sale b) they were actually in stock and c) they are going to be harder to find the closer we get to Christmas.

Let me tell you a little bit about why we choose this gaming system and the two "games" and what we think of them so far.

THE Wii GAMING SYSTEM

I have wanted a Wii pretty much since they came out. Lindsay and I tried one out for a few minutes at Wal-Mart one day and although I had no idea what I was doing (it was a surfing game and it was HARD), I loved the concept and thought it would be a lot of fun.

I have never been very good at video games. Tetris is about the only game I can do well. I don't like video games where you are basically just moving your thumbs really, really fast. From everything I read about the Wii, it sounded so much better and more fun because you were using your body, not just your fingers.

We went to a party on Friday night and our friend Jonathan watched the girls. He brought his Wii and the Wii Sport disc with him so that I could try it out. I was hooked in a manner of minutes. Lets just say I am now sore because I have bowled so much the past three days. I like tennis and boxing as well, but bowling is by far the game I am the best at so of course it was the one I wanted to play the most ( I am thisclose to breaking 200).

Do we like it?

As Hailey would say, "we don't like it, we LOVE it!" I love that the console is very small and can easily travel to the grandparents houses so that we can play with them as well. With minimum instruction from Jonathan, we were able to start playing right away without having to read any manuals. If he had not of been here, I think we could have figured it out on our own without reading anything.

I love the customized "Miis". You make your own character by personalizing face shape, skin and hair color, hairstyle, eye color and shape, and more...you can even change your height, weight, and shirt color. When you play a game, you are likely to see your family members' Miis show up as well. At one point Hailey was my soccer coach and she thought that was too cool.

The best thing to me about the Wii is that you can be very active. Ed and I boxed against each other tonight and I was about to collapse by the time we were done. When my Mii got up after being knocked down, I begged her to stay down...silly girl got back up to fight another round. Hailey is all over the place when she is boxing - she is really a site to behold.

Wii Fit

Although I have wanted a Wii for some time, the launch of Wii Fit made me even more excited to own one. There are so many cool things about Wii Fit.

To start out, you provide your birth date and height. You then step on the board and perform some simple tests. The program calculates your weight, your BMI, and your Wii Fit Age. You can then set a weight loss goal for yourself.

There are four categories of activities to choose from: strength training, aerobics, yoga, and balance activities. A very neat catch is that not all activities are available to you when you first start the program. As you exercise, you earn Wii fit points - these points "unlock" new activities in each category. I unlocked two new activities my first time exercising.

The only areas I have tried so far are balance games and aerobics. My favorite aerobic activities are hula hoop and running. In hula hoop, you are literally moving your body as if you were hula hooping. Then, they throw more hoops at you and you have to lean your head to catch them. Yeah, can't do that yet! I have terrible balance! In the Basic Run, you are running around a little Wii town and there is a runner in front of you that you are to keep pace with. It helps you to keep a steady pace and not run too slow or too fast. I loved it!

Like I said, I have terrible balance. I am always running into door frames and I don't stand or sit still very well. The Wii Fit made it very clear that this is an area I need to work on. There is a game where soccer balls are being kicked at you and you have to lean left or right to hit them with your head. There are other objects being thrown at you and you are suppossed to lean to avoid them. Somehow I do a better job of getting smacked in the face with the flying cleats than I do of hitting the balls with my head.

In "Table Tilt", you are the table and you start off with one ball and one hole in the table. As you lean, the table leans. You have to move your body to make the ball fall down the hole. As you progress, you get more balls and more holes. Fun AND frustrating.

There are two ski games in this category as well: ski slalom and ski jump. Hailey and I both love the ski jump the best. You have to bend your knees as you are going down the slope and then you quickly stand up and hold your balance to complete the jump.

One of the new activities I unlocked is the tightrope. You walk in place to walk the rope...but you have to keep your center of gravity in place or you will fall off. To make it even harder, there are times that you have to "jump" over objects by bending your knees and then standing up quickly. I haven't been able to do that yet and Hailey thinks it is funny that her dad was able to do it before me.

Your Wii Fit Bank keeps up with the time you spend on each exercise. You also get to put a stamp on your virtual calendar to indicate that you worked out that day. You can view charts that track your progress towards your goal. You can also password protect this information so that other users cannot see your weight, age, and BMI.

If you have fibromyalgia, this is a great exercise option for you. You can choose low-impact options, you can pace yourself, you can track your time and your progress, and you can switch activities frequently so that you are not overtaxing any one muscle group. Balance is an issue for a lot of people with FMS and these activities can help you become aware of your center of gravity and improve your balance in a fun and engaging way. Yoga is wonderful for FMS and is a great activity to begin and end your exercise routines so that you are working on lengthening and strengthening your muscles. I AM sore, but if you have FMS, you know that there is "good" pain and "bad" pain. This is a "good" pain because it means that I have done something GOOD for myself. I exercised and had fun without overdoing it and making it so that I couldn't get out of bed in the morning.

I am very excited about this program and hope that I continue to look forward to exercising.

(As a side note to those of you who read my blog regularly, I still love the Ab Lounge and try to use it twice a day. I think it is a great complement to this program).

Rock Band for Wii

We have Jennifer and Billy to blame thank for our new obsession. After playing Rock Band at their house, we couldn't stop thinking about it. It is a lot of fun and very addictive. The Rock Band set comes with the game, a guitar, a drum set, and a microphone. There are color-coded "frets" on the guitar and the drum rims are also color-coded. Colored rectangles move down the screen to tell you what "notes" to play. There are various play modes and skill levels.

Although I failed at my first attempt to play the drums at Jennifer and Billy's house, I have gotten up to 97% correct on my favorite song with 144 correct notes in a row. There is just one spot that I can't quite master yet. I took the tutorials for the guitar but it doesn't really interest me. There isn't a tutorial in the world that could make me a better singer. By default, I get to be the drummer of the house. That works out great since Ed loves the guitar and doesn't care for the drums.

The girls love to "play" the guitar. Leah looks adorable with the guitar strapped around her neck! Hailey is doing so great with her reading that she can actually handle the singing pretty well on her own. If you know Hailey, you know that she is loving having a microphone!

We LOVE the Wii, Wii Fit, and Rock Band. We had a great time playing it as a family. I know we will get many hours of family bonding, friendly competition, exercise, fun and laughter out of these purchases. If you have been considering buying a Wii but have been on the fence, I say go for it! I don't think you'll regret it! There were 6 left at Target at North Hills when we were there yesterday.

With all the rumored Xbox 360 price cuts for September, Microsoft must

New Xbox 360 Dashboard Update

With all the rumored Xbox 360 price cuts for September, Microsoft must have the sick new dashboard just around the corner too right? November actually. The new update is scheduled to be release in 3 from now. Just a quick recap on what makes the update a must have:

Ability to save on and play games off the Hard Drive (instead of disks)- In short, this means quicker load times (big plus), lower risk of freezing with no more scratched disks (bigger plus), and an overall better gaming experience (biggest plus). However, you will have to keep the game you're playing in the 360's drive due to "pirating reasons" (people stealing games by making illegal copies of them).

Avatars (like the Wii's Mii characters)- Not exactly sure how this will go, but we do know these will be your players in downloadable Xbox Live Arcade games like Uno!.

Netflix Support- This will make the Xbox 360 even more of an entertainment device, allowing you to not only buy HD and standard definition TV shows and movies, but you can now rent from the larger Netflix library and straight to the 360.

New "Floating Panel" Interface- We mentioned this is similar to what Windows Vista has with that new flip 3D interface, and the released pics of this new interface (see pic above), look both intuitive and aesthetically stunning

Sound good? November is still a couple months away so sit tight until this "mandatory (Microsoft's words not ours) update" comes. In the meantime, tell us what you think of the new update, the 360, or just your video game console of choice-- and what they should do to fight this update if necessary-- in the comments.

And just like I told you, here I am again. Anyway, let's get on with the review. "We'll do the So Long Farewell" thingamajiger after the review (if you read my other posts, you would be able to pronounce that).

**********************************************************************************************************************

Wii Play for Wii:

Rated E: Mild Cartoon Violence

Wii Play is a game by Nintendo that helps you with your Nintendo Wii experience in 9 fun games. You can play games that help your aim, your accuracy, looking around, and tons more! You can play single player, or play with a friend! With up to two players, you can use your mii’s to compete against each other in the games of your choice. All of these games can keep you entertained and keep you having fun! In “Shooting Range”, you hit lots of different targets and get points. In “Find Mii”, you find the mii (or mii’s) that they want you to find. In “Tanks”, you try to destroy as many tanks as you can while staying alive. All of these plus 6 more games will make an excellent addition to all of your wii games. However, on Billiards (Pool) they do not let you hit any ball into the pockets, but only the one they want you to hit (or else it would be a foul). Also, you can have only two players and not up to four. But otherwise, I would recommend this game if you are new to the wii (or even if you are not) because it is a great game.

**********************************************************************************************************

Was it good my friends? Don't worry. I'll stop being like this once I get all the game reviews up. I bet that you are just DYING to here what September is. But you're not gonna know until sometime in September. It may be the 31st are the 2nd. Oh! I almost forgot! So long! Farewell! My teedle-leedle, uh-er, somethingerother. So Long! Farewell!

-Andrew:) :) :) :) :) :) :)
