Parece que no ha habido ningún contratiempo de última hora del que es uno de los juegos más esperados del año, pues Epic Games ha anunciado que el desarrollo de Gears of War 2 en Xbox 360 ha sido ya completamente finalizado, entrando el proyecto en fase Gold y pasando ahora a ser producido en masa, para tener todo listo para el próximo 7 de noviembre, fecha en la que se pondrá a la venta en Europa y Norteamérica. Poco más que añadir, salvo que, al igual que muchos de vosotros, ya estamos contando los días que faltan para poder tener entre las manos este Gears of War 2.

Obećavam sebi, svaki dan, bićeš bolji, marljiviji i pošteniji. Nećeš više piti kao svinja, pušiti kao Osman, nećeš jesi masno i nezdravo, ostajati poslednji, čačkati burazerov komp pa sjebati. Čitaćeš više, obogatiti svoje tekstove lepim rečima i NEĆEŠ u njima puno psovati, radićeš “stotine i stotine sklekova, trbušnjaka”, popravićeš kočnice na kolima i sipati gorivo ponekada za više od 500 kinti. Ali ne vredi.

Ili je gužva pa ne stignem, neprijatna situacija pa izbegnem, “ima vremena“ pa kampujem.

This incident with my mother woke me up to the brighter side of the current financial crisis we are experiencing especially here in the Philippines. We are getting stronger. It's true, because our load are becoming lighter. Bright because we are still able to joke about it. But beyond it, there's nothing more but a dark horizon of a relatively dreadful future. For beyond this joke is the hardship of a mother  and a thousand other mothers who have to make ends really, really meet.

We are a middle class family in Philippine standards but we are feeling the pinch of the high prices of commodities. Our cinematic experiences are now limited to once every two months we now carefully choose which movies to watch. (Pity those mediocre films). I now borrow old DVD movies of friends and watch them at my room most of the time. My bonding time with my brother is now limited to eating at cheap restaurants, our visit to relatives are now limited too. It is because we have to save and allocate our resources to more important things like food and academic requirements.

While I am pronouncing these personal woes, I just can't imagine how people within and below the poverty line are coping up with this crisis. I think this is really a more trying and more difficult time for them. I imagine that they would scavenge more ferociously at dumpsites [good that there will be melamine-tainted milk for their consumption :-( ], eat once instead of twice a day, eat rice with no viand, etc. It's really hard to imagine. Maybe next week I'll visit a squatter's area to see for myself...

With this current financial crisis, I am drawn towards investing my hard-earned money into something more profitable. I am tempted to withdraw my assets from the bank and invest perhaps in mutual funds, money markets, and other financial plans. But I don't know how to invest yet in the ways I've mentioned and how they work. Perhaps it would generate for me a modest income to augment my school allowance (which is very minimal) and still be profitable. Going to business is not yet an option because of demanding requirements at school. I'm afraid that if won't have such a move, I would later be a part of NSO's below-the-poverty-line statistics.

Pelo tom do anúncio, feito por Zé Wellington (diretor-geral), parece que o evento está mais para "cancelado" do que "adiado".

Infelizmente a região norte perde o evento mais importante do gênero infanto-juvenil.

O MASA foi um dos maiores eventos dessa categoria que se teve em toda a região.

O evento aconteceu, oficialmente, desde 2004, anualmente, com várias mini amostras durante os encontros.

Vamos aguardar que essa situação seja resolvida para que os Otakus, "cardíacos" e RPGistas da região norte possam ter de volta um pedaço de sua cultura.

Mari kita tengok sebentar kebelakang, kenapa sebentar? Karena jika terlalu lama menengok kebelakang kita akan menabrak atau dtabrak sehingga langkah kita bisa terhenti sementara atau bahkan selamanya. Kita coba menengok bahwa sebenarnya kita bisa melalui semua permasalahan dalam kehidupan kita yang telah terlewati. Meskipun saat masalah itu menimpa kita, tidak jarang kita mengeluh dan menyatakan tak mampu menyelesaikannya. Namun faktanya sekarang kita ada dimasa sekarang yang mungkin sebagian dari kita ada juga yang sedang dihadapkan pada suatu permasalahan. Dengan apa yang sudah kita lalui dibelakang, setidaknya menunjukan bahwa kita mampu menyelesaikan masalah-masalah.

Alloh tidak akan memberikan sesuatu pada hamba diluar batas kemampuan sang hamba.Ini adalah janjiNya. Apakah kita tidak mempercayai janjiNYa? Semuanya sudah diukur dengan neracaNYa. Karena Alloh menjadikan sesuatu dengan ukurannya. Yakinlah bahwa kita pasti mampu menyelesaikannya... apapun...

Saat kita dilahirkan kita tidak mampu apa-apa. Kemudian belajar untuk mendengar, melihat, berbicara. Lalu kita memasuki masa remaja, berlanjut dewasa kemudian senja. Seperti itu juga dengan kehidupan, ada masanya kita masuk TK (bagi yang sekolah TK) kemudian masuk SMP dengan segala permasalahannya. Nilai yang kurang, guru yang kurang menyenangkan, PR yang terlalu banyak, menunggak bayar sPP. Sampai akhirnya kita lulus lalu masuk SMA. Saat SMA sebagian besar dari kita dihadapkan masalah dengan lawan jenis (PUBER), dan mungkin masih sama dengan SMP, tugas-tugas, PR menghiasi permasalah kita. Demikian seterusnya. Lulus SMA kemudian kuliah. Tidak berhenti smapai disini kan? kemudian kita akan dipusingkan dengan mencari pekerjaan, penghasilan, menikah, mangasuh anak dan seterusnya.. Apakah kita akan berhenti pada satu titik ? Saat kita benar-benar merasa jenuh dan ketidak mungkinan... Teteplah melangkah kedepan, Tataplah semuanya dengan tegap. Yakinkan diri bahwa kita pasti BISA. Ada masanya kita sekolah, kuliah, menyusun skripsi, cari kerja, masa bekerja, memilih pasangan hidup demikian seteruanya... jadi SeMuA Ada MaSanYa....

Ingat nasihat teman, Seburuk-buruk hari past berlalu juga. Mustahil jika sekarang hari jum"at kemudian besok, lusa juga hari jum'at, Nikmatilah setiap masanya. Mba saya pernah bilang, kalo kita tidak pernah menhadapi dan menyelesaikan masalah, apakah kita bisa bagi dengan ahli waris kita?

Sabar dan syukur lah, yakinkan apa yang ada di tangan kita sekarang adalah yang Terbaik buat kita untuk saat ini...

Mucho se ha hablado sobre el Gran Colisionador de Hadrones (o Large Hadron Collider, LHC en sus siglas inglesas) y prácticamente se ha dicho de todo, incluso demasiado. En esta entrada quiero reflejar todo lo que se sabe sobre el LHC y lo que ha pasado hasta su actualidad.

En principio el LHC es una obra de ingeniería destinado a colisionar haces de protones de 7 Tev (los hadrones) en sentidos diametralmente opuestos, generando una gran cantidad de energía (a nivel subatómico) y observando el proceso con varios detectores, dos de ellos con propósito general y tres más especializados con fines científicos singulares. Aunque tiene como objetivo principal confirmar el Modelo Estándar de la Teoría de la Física de Partículas (explicar por que algunas partículas carecen de masa y como fin último el origen de la masa y el mismo Universo), así como ver sus límites, de paso se intentará confirmar o desmentir varias teorías pendientes y en especial la partícula bosón de Higgs, el "eslabón" para la Teoría de la Gran Unificación, estudiando 3 de las 4 fuerzas fundamentales conocidas (interacción gravitatoria, interacción nuclear débil, interacción nuclear fuerte e interacción electromagnética) -se deja de lado a la gravedad-. Hoy en día la que más se aproxima y el mejor candidato es la controvertida Teoría de Cuerdas, o la Teoría de Supercuerdas que incorporaría a los fermiones, una teoría que, a día de hoy se le considera falsable.

El LHC es a día de hoy el acelerador de partículas más grande del mundo, en el que se han gastado de presupuesto una cantidad aproximada de 4000 millones de euros y el presupuesto previsto de este año para la institución CERN(European Organization Nuclear Research) que controla el proyecto es de 660 millones de euros, de los cuales España aporta 54.

Experimentos.-

Con los 5 detectores se prevé respuestas a las siguientes cuestiones:

• ¿Qué es la masa (sólo sabemos medirla)?
• Hallar el bosón de Higgs (y que Stephen Hawking pierda la apuesta de 100 $).
• Hallar el origen de la masa de los bariones.
• Las partículas totales del átomo.
• Explorar la supersimetría, concepto que ayuda a desentrañar un poco el hallazgo reciente de que la materia visible sólo representa el 4% del Universo, la materia negra el 23% y la energía oscura el 74%.
• Violaciones particulares sobre la simetría y dimensiones extras que ayudarían a asentar la Teoría de Cuerdas, quitándole la etiqueta de falsable.
• Detallar los procesos que se formaron milésimas de segundo después del original Big Bang.

Alarmas.-

Mucho se ha hablado sobre catástrofes agoreras y apocalípticas sobre el proyecto. No aporto nada sobre el tema ya que todas se han caído por su propia falta de argumentos científicos. Como mucho se podría producir algún accidente relacionado con el fenómeno quench, parte del superconductor pierde superconductividad y esto se traslada a una explosión. Pero nada de agujeros negros, cambios de dimensiones, etc...

Red de computación (Grid Computing)

Se trata de una red de distribución diseñada por el CERN con el propósito de que pueda manejar los cerca de 15 petabytes que se producirán al año (en el caso de que ese año estuviera funcional el mismo colisionador y sus experimentos. Los datos que se generan al día son filtrados en distintas etapas, de modo que la primera etapa se filtra en el mismo organismo CERN, en la siguiente a distintas instituciones y gobiernos cooperantes, etc. El sistema operativo que controla la red primaria es un linux específicamente diseñado, Scientific Linux, que puede manejar esos 15 PB y distribuirlos entre 100.000 ordenadores. 1 PB = 1.000.000 GB de vuestros discos duros.

Actualidad (25/09/08)

En estos momentos el LHC se encuentra en reparaciones debido a una fuga de helio líquido entre los instrumentos Alice y CMS provocado por un cortocircuito. Las secciones donde viaja los hadrones se enfrian a 1,9 kelvin, casi el cero absoluto, por lo que se tiene que calentar las secciones afectadas para que los operarios puedan repararlas y después volver a enfriarlas. El LHC es único en el mundo, por lo que los científicos tienen que operar bajo condiciones muy estrictas de seguridad y protocolo y evitar en la medida de lo posible gastos excesivos que salgan del presupuesto.

Bajo esas premisas, el LHC no volverá a funcionar plenamente hasta principios de primavera del año que viene (sobre el 2009).
