Hello-Hello....it is a Monday.

At the risk of tempting fate, we fear it may be time to bring back the "stop the insanity" shrieking from last decade. And we aren't talking about this:

[caption id="attachment_4194" align="aligncenter" width="360" caption="Spencer Platt/Getty Images"][/caption]

We are saying resurrect the phrase only, not the person best known for yelling those words at us. At least that's how it felt whenever that show was on the television: 'Hi, I'm Susan Powter, with TV that's YOUR FAULT!' (Good heavens, no, The Princess did not have it on, but when employed in a television station one isn't always in charge of what is on.)

But the lunacy continued throughout both the Milan and Paris Fashion Week shows. We are talking about footwear and we'll commence the visual aids with a look from Gucci's RTW Ready to Wear Spring 2009 show:

[caption id="attachment_4004" align="aligncenter" width="360" caption="Photo: Stephane Feugere"][/caption]

Or the Emilio Pucci RTW Spring 2009...

[caption id="attachment_4005" align="aligncenter" width="360" caption="Photo by Dave Yoder"][/caption]

From Women's Wear Daily, in a story about the Prada RTW Spring 2009 show:

"As for the accessories, it was all about the shoes, and not in a good way. The mile-high platforms strapped on over what appeared to be Prada’s take on Peds might have been impressive, had half of the girls not had major trouble walking and thus looked absolutely petrified. At least one fell (the meandering stage set didn’t allow for full viewing), and one bailed on the finale. Folks, more sculptural, higher, chunkier, clunkier, strappier, bondage-ier — we get it. But maybe it’s time to cry uncle and downgrade to shoes that function as shoes, even on the runway."

The photo below is from that same Prada show during Milan Fashion Week:

[caption id="attachment_4186" align="aligncenter" width="272" caption="Stefano Rellandini/Reuters "][/caption]

Next, a close-up of a pair of Ferragamos.

Below, a shot from this September's Peter Som Spring/Summer 2009 runway at New York Fashion Week.

And here, one from the Marni Spring/Summer 2009 show (BTW, they do have a fabulous online store!):

And then this photo is just in from yesterday's Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2009 show:

As far as TP is concerned, enough is enough. Actually, it is too much. What do you think? Is the silly shoes phenomenon out of control?

Next, a quick look at the Lacoste Fall campaign, "Perfectly Prepped."

And they are showcasing polos for kids, both boys and girls.

It seems that once again "preppy is making a comeback." This is at least the third or fourth time we've seen this headline since we started our little blog back in February of this year and this is our 219th post, so if one does the math, the comebacks are happening more than we care to contemplate. And wouldn't that necessitate the lifestyle going away in order for it to 'come back'? Our most recent discourse on the topic was June 11th, titled "Everyone Discovers Preppy..."

Now in Adam Tschorn's story for the Los Angeles Times entitled Preppy makes a comeback on the men's runway, we see it dubbed the preppie renaissance:

"And nothing in American sportswear is as intrinsically optimistic as the preppy wardrobe built around madras, seersucker and oxford cloth, the de facto uniform of the scion-in-waiting circa 1980 who bides his time at a prep school until a Harvard early acceptance puts him on the path to Wall Street."

The next two looks are from Perry Ellis:

"In this new world order, it's a preppie renaissance with privileged panache, with Michael Bastian, Thom Browne and others."

In referring to designer Thom Browne the articles notes we have the 'neo-preppy' moniker:

"Thom Browne, the official tortured soul of the neo-preppy brat pack also toyed with texture, filling his tennis tournament set piece with gauzy sweaters, a floor-length peignoir festooned with tennis rackets and jackets woven over-under from strips of grosgrain."

Because we have shown so much Thom Browne and Thom Browne for Brooks Brothers Black Fleece, we'll share two more looks from Perry Ellis:

We simply must fly. Back later.

While Marc never seems to surprise anyone, Louis Vuitton is usually more paired down and subtle than it is crazy.

Marc changed that for spring. Poodle hair, big, structural jewelry, and shiny and sheer everything, it was all there. While I felt the jewelry and the hair totally threw off the outfits and I could have done with less, the clothes themselves were what made my jaw drop.

Louis Vuitton has such a history and to many aristocrats still living today, it was once this luxury brand that only the elite could afford and wear. Looks like Marc is throwing that mentality out the window and starting all over it.

Bravo, I say, Brav-o.

PARIS — After this afternoon's Louis Vuitton show, T Magazine's editor, Stefano Tonchi, filed this dispatch over The Fashion Telex: "On a runway dusted with golden sand, Marc Jacobs sent out the most luxurious, upbeat and colorful femme fatales of the week!" As ever, the front row was crowded with celebrities eager to see the latest from Marc Jacobs. Lenny Kravitz, wearing a muscle shirt on a chilly day, raised the eyebrows of a few fashion editors. Our finale video is after the jump.

how about i make this post about me me me. as if the others haven't been. here's some stuff i actually love.

wait.

before delving into that, i have to say - i made the mistake of doing this when i was 12. in grade 7, i was notorious for wearing panty-hose with short shorts. big no no. and i've seen plenty of girls doing this in Montreal in recent weeks. all i gotta say is nooo nooo.

But I have to say - my absolute dislike of zippers has turned against me. I find myself drawn to what I don't like. I'm now looking at them through a different lens. So you'll see some Marc Jacobs and Diesel zippers in my collection of coveted fall '08 items. Some of them are reminiscent of Dynasty. Some are reminiscent of the later 80s. Either way, it's mostly 80s.

Feel the Love

Last week I blogged about a crazy conspiracy theory I concocted when I noticed that the girls around the perimeter of this ANTM poster were disappearing one-by-one. I speculated that Lauren-Brie would be the next to go, because only her and Clark remained south of Tyra's equator.

I was wrong about Lauren-Brie, because Clark was sent packing. Still, I'm absolutely convinced that my theory is solid. The reason? Tyra told the panel that she believed Lauren-Brie was "resting on pretty." If that's not the kiss of death in Top Model lingo, I don't know what is!

I'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that Marjorie and Elina will follow Lauren-Brie (please send Marjorie -- I'm begging you, Tyra!) The five girls closest to Tyra will be the final five. For some reason, Sheena and Samantha appear to be prominently placed. Perhaps they're the final two? Or maybe I'm just getting ahead of myself.

Hopefully, I've cracked the Tyra Code and I'll be able to decipher the clues that she leaves me in the Cycle 12 ad campaign, too. In the meantime, I'm going to try to prove that skinny Marc Jacobs is really an alien sent to our planet by our reptilian space overlords, and that fat Marc Jacobs is being held against in his will by alien-sympathizer Sophia Coppola in her homemade sex dungeon.

A girl's work is never done!

I’m not sure why I keep watching the Rachel Zoe Project. Perhaps it’s because she teases

I'm not sure why I keep watching the Rachel Zoe Project. Perhaps it's because she teases me with designers like Marc Jacobs (who I adore), or maybe it's because I keep telling myself I'm going to turn one of the episodes into a drinking game, taking a drink each time she says "I die," but whatever it is, I can't stop watching and I wish I could.

[caption id="attachment_13" align="alignleft" width="256" caption="The Rachel Zoe Project"][/caption]

Each episode could easily be summed up into a ten minute snippet, but the editing team over at Bravo has the Rachel Zoe project broken down into a blue ribbon reality tv pie.

Let's check out the ingredients.

Take one part Rachel "911" emergency meltdown and mix it with five minutes of bumbling Brad, gushing about how this isn't how things worked when he interned at Vogue. Sprinkle in a few Taylor temper tantrums, snarky faces and a couple scenes with Rodger complaining about how much money Rachel spends on clothing. Simmer in gobs of couture dresses, Blackberry-s, and a few more diva moments, bake for an hour, and ta-da. Another Bravo creation.

Each week takes viewers through another fashion emergency. Last week showcased some of the runway collections from New York Fashion week, including some gorgeous dresses by Donna Karan. But of course, no episode would be complete without a Rachel drama sandwich. The episode opens with Rachel sitting with Brad talking about a tabloid article that accuses Rachel of hawking drugs/horse pills. Pad the sndwich with Rachel gushing about how hard she works and how she's constantly battling her public image, and then start to wrap it all up with a vague reference to a NY Magazine article about Rachel and Marc Jacobs.

Drama drama drama. We get it.

This week's episode wasn't much better. This week she continued her hunt for "the perfect Oscar dress" and continued passively promoting Joy Bryant, one of her clients who seems to do little more than stop by Zoe's house/hotel, despite having a (somewhat) credible acting career.

[caption id="attachment_10" align="alignright" width="288" caption="Brad as Rachel (photo from Bravo)"][/caption]

Brad managed to come through in a pinch, pulling pieces for Kate Hudson's last minute trip to London while Rachel finished her rounds at the shows, and was also good for a laugh. Joey, Rachel's make-up guru and Brad (I'm telling you, there's a romance brewing there) coaxed a laugh out of Rachel's permanently pouty face when Joey put extensions on Brad and added a fur coat and sunglasses to create a (more?) tranny version of Rachel while she prepared for the next show.

Honestly, my biggest complaint about the Rachel Zoe Project is that the show falls short of reaching its potential. Rachel talks about expanding her brand into "sunnies" and jeans, but fails to recognize that expanding her brand doesn't just mean super-saturate the market. It means become relevant. By failing to translate the high fashion/stylist tips into useable tricks, Rachel remains nothing more than a novelty. Sure viewers get to catch a glimpse of Birkin bags and vintage Valentino dresses, but it doesn't go beyond that.

Rachel could easily make herself more relatable by taking a tip from Stacy London and Clinton Kelly-- make it applicable to every body. I know part of Rachel's lure is that she's the end-all-be-all when it comes to stylists, but that only works if you have the bucks. In order for Rachel to make it mainstream (or at least snobby mainstream like Barney's and Bloomingdale's) she's gotta share the "why" in addition to the "what."

Taking two minutes more to explain why a mermaid dress looks better on Joy's body instead of one with a ballerina silhouette adds value, thereby giving her staying power and market potential.

I just hope someone clues Rachel in on this before her season ends and Bravo decides not to renew.

Yesterday at work I had a long discussion with a co-worker about books and music. At my last job the intelligence level of my co-workers was very low. We usually discussed how ghetto fabulous my ass was, Britney Spears and who was planning on ordering Chinese food that day.

At my new job I expected middle class, middle aged, stuck up, suburban workaholics. For the most part I was right, but yesterday I heard Cold War Kids new album blasting from a co-worker, Carl's, office. I went in and we started discussing music. Although he is not a Smiths fan (he told me that he was going to remove all the sharp objects from my cube because The Smiths are just that emo, I resent that comment), we listen to a lot of the same music. He burned me the new TV on the Radio cd, 'Dear Science,' which is awesome.

Carl told the other co-op student that I was hardcore about my underground music (I wouldn't say underground, I'm just an indie girl), and then asked him what his interests were.

The other co-op replied, "I love music too, I have like 700 songs on my new ipod touch."

Carl said, "You're an amature, what do you like? Rhianna?"

Yep, the other co-op student loves Rhianna (and all things main stream) and wears Marc Jacobs sunglasses. I think he's too cool for me, in that incredibly annoying, look at my expensive things, kind of way.

Oh, well, I have at least one person to talk to.

Today the only thing keeping me going is my mellow indie rock, watered down coffee and looking forward the peanut butter and jelly sandwich I brought for lunch.

Slightly depressing, isn't it?

(Currently listening to 'Dear Science' by TV on the Radio)

Tonight's Rachel Zoe made me the happiest fashionista alive. Not only did I see my beloved black wool knit jacket with asymmetrical zipper during the Marc show, but everything that she did during Fashion Week is my ultimate dream. Plus it made me want to shop. Bad. She went to shows, she went to market appointments, she went shopping, she went to parties and she sat front row at everything. God I love it. Makes me happy.

Not only was it an awesome, fashion forward episode (which I think is amazing for television, finally a show that showcases actual fashion and not just this Project Runway bologna), but there were some amazing quotes from Zoe and Brad. Some of which made me literally laugh my ass off, roll on the ground laughing, and attempt to use in conversation with friends.

Here are a few favorites:

Rachel: "I already bought three leopard coats and a leopard cape, what do you think?"

Brad: "Might need one more."

Rachel's make up friend: "How much did this cost?"

Rachel: ":Like 3500, 5000 or something, it's bananas

Friend: "And you're never going to wear it?"

Rachel: "Nope, I just want to look at it."

Brad: "I'm almost in the first row but totally in the second row behind Rachel. This is major."

Brad (note, best quote of.the.night.) "I'm the kind of person that if you go shopping with me I will cosign anything for you. If you want to buy a Birkin bag and haven't paid your rent, I'll totally sign your receipt. No problems."

Rachel: "Brad! We have to give her a coat or she'll throw on a god knows what."

God, I love it.

We're sorry you couldn't make it to the fete at the Palais Galliera the other night, where one of our favorite T columnists, Suzy Menkes, was honored for her 20 years as fashion editor extraordinaire at the International Herald Tribune. Well, here's a funny little party favor from the night. Press "Play" to watch the fashion world's ode to the inimitable "Suzy" by A-listers like Marc Jacobs, Karl Lagerfeld, Donatella Versace, Alber Elbaz, Anna Wintour and T's own editor, Stefano Tonchi. Check out Olivier Theyskens's pompadour-sonation -- they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And as Jean Paul Gaultier concludes Bob Dylan cue card-style, Suzy is "Au delà de la Mode."

Fashion Intel here,

Sorry I did not report on Gossip Girl fashion last week, but as always the girls and boys were dressed up to the nines. Last night's episode was not only fabulous because it was fashion week, but so much drama ensued that I almost shed a tear for Chuck. The story lines are becoming better every week! I have never particularly cared for Serena, so I look forward to her demise. What I'd love to see is a new dynamic duo in Blair and Jenny. We'll see.....here are my top Gossip Girl fashion moments.

Blair wearing a pilgrim bow. I've got to find a uniform store.

KIKI SMITH shout out. Feminist artist, another point for GG.

I love that high-schoolers are reading WWD. I once had a subscription and met with West Coast Editor Marcy Medina for an internship. That obviously didn't work out, but I think I'll send her an email.

Kristen Dunst is sooooo 2007. Poor Kiki.

Nice ascot, Chuck Bass. Or should I say Charlie Trout?

No one wants to be stuck behind the barricades with PETA at fashion week, well, unless you are a member of PETA. Check out their many campaigns over at PETA.ORG, as my Paris Vogue fur post got me on their list. I subscribed to their newsletters when I was in Amnesty International - I get it.

"Marc [Jacobs] is going to eat his grunge corduroys." Eleanor Waldorf, faux designer of Lorick.

"Models aren't the brightest bulbs." Says Blair Waldorf. Have you met Lily Cole?

Driving Marc Jacobs to drink! NOOOOOO!!!!

Andre Leon Talley loved the dress. Enough said.

There were so many Marc Jacobs shout outs and disses, I lost count. For good measure, I'll say 10. How many did you hear? EXTRA BONUS: I caught some of the names on Eleanor Waldorf's seating chart, here is a tiny taste: Micheal Kors, Lydia Hearst, Tory Burch and Tyra Banks. I'll take 2 of the 4, you can be the judge.

From L to R: Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Bow applique sweater $530, Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Velvet bow top $745, Forever 21 Gathered Chiffon Rose Headband $3.80, Vena Cava Imperial Dress $598, Forever 21 Classy Pearl Necklace $7.80, 3.1 Phillip Lim Dress

Spring is all about expressing yourself more freely, and this is naturally reflected in the clothes

Spring is all about expressing yourself more freely, and this is naturally reflected in the clothes and accessories we wear as well. Fashion designers, it is only understandable, are not the ones to overlook this – on the contrary, it’s on what they base all their creations.

However, out of the lot, it’s perhaps Marc Jacobs that really asks you to be bolder and more beautiful than ever come this spring, with the newly launched collection of bags plus accessories at New York Fashion week.

[caption id="attachment_415" align="aligncenter" width="394" caption="Marc Jacobs spring/summer 2009 handbags collection"][/caption]

To start with, as attractive and colorful as this new line might be, it’s not for everybody.

Marc Jacobs has always been a designer for the select few because his limits in terms of creativity are close to non-existent, therefore everything that comes out bearing his signature is audacious beyond imagination.

The same note of boldness characterizes the latest line as well – multi-layered, shiny and almost too flashy for their odd combination of colors, the Marc Jacobs bags are made exclusively for women who are not afraid to have all eyes on them no matter where they go.

And, believe it, that will happen – guaranteed – with one of these totes strapped to one’s shoulder.

While there is close to none innovation in terms of size (we have either huge handbags or minuscule totes), what Jacobs brings new to the scene is a certain feeling that any woman proudly donning one of his latest creations cannot do so without being accompanied by a fanfare and the amazed gaze of passers-by.

These bags not only speak originality and independence – they literally scream for well-deserved attention with everything they got, from the many purls and fringes, to the chains and beads that seem to almost bear down on them.

And, as if this splash of color brought by the bags was not enough, Marc Jacobs also invites his female costumers to take even that extra step with his accessories, to borderline extravagance. This time, size is everything, as also is quantity.

Huge bracelets, juxtaposed if possible and of contrasting shades, are clearly a must.

Obviously, whoever is the proud lady to pull this combo off without a hiccup can’t but be the very essence of glamour – which is precisely what Jacobs was aiming for here.

So, I have these pair of Gucci shades that are somewhat similar to these. I absolutely love mine. I have a friend who has, since Ive known him, bought 3 pair of identical Gucci shades so far. He actually is the same person who talked me into buying my fair pair of Gucci sunglasses (yes I was a virgin).

But then something strange happened. After being totally convinced that I would never go with another designer, as far as shades go, I run across a pair of Marc Jacobs that have absolutely solidified me as being a traitor to the one ruler that Ive known. I'm not sure if its the fit or frame but something strange has made me change. (And no-I didn't mean for that to "rhyme" this "time" but I'm so happy it did).

Well, all I can say for now is that I have two favorite options come next summer in Vegas. And as you all know-those of us who live in Las Vegas live for the summer days and nights. Next summer, I'm going to do myself a favor and buy 3 pair of each, Gucci and Marc Jacob, just to make sure I have all the bases covered. And if your wondering - yes I'm totally obsessed with sunglasses.

PS- Girl's adore them! I know-I get compliments all the time!
