This unknown (at present, to me) Clematis flowers well after the Nelly Moser Clematis grand showcase of blooms. This morning I went out to photograph the shaft of sunlight on this flower and as I was focusing, this little beetle-like visitor came into view...unexpected, tiny, and barely over an 1/8 inch long! While the depth of field is not optimal on such a tiny element, I loved the graphic pink and green wedges framing him, so I'm sharing it anyway!

Cosmos is an annual plant in my Wisconsin garden. Cosmos were grown by Spanish missionary priests in their gardens in Mexico. The "orderly" plant inspired them to name it "Cosmos" which is the Greek name for harmony or the ordered universe. Cosmos was originally found in Mexico and South America, but now is cultivated all over the United States. This is one easy plant to grow. It tolerates poor soil, harsh weather and neglect, though I try not to take advantage of its easy going nature. It even self seeds in the autumn, and comes back for more the next year.

Yellow Coreopsis is one of my most prolific flowering plant, in bloom from late May through frost. Its common name is Tickweed because it's seeds look like tiny insects, but it is more common to call this flower by its scientific name. It tolerates pretty poor growing conditions, and really thrives when cared for properly.

These flowers are new to my garden, and I can't seem to find the stake with its information. I'm thinking it is an aster of some sort, though it's leaves aren't exactly aster-like. They are hardy, sun-worshippers that began their bloom in mid July and will keep the garden in a profusion of bright purples until frost.

This one is a blurred but what is weird is the way the stamens swirl counter clockwise and have no normal ends on them.

Another sap pic the droplets on this tree are growing and I think I like this one best of several from the other day because I like the way the droplets are at different levels. Obviously something I have no control over :-)

I finally have a camera that can take decent macro shots and have been practicing taking pictures around the yard. This is a picture of a bee on a purple thistle that I was particularly pleased with.

Is it me, or is Edelpils everywhere? Not more than one week ago I was relishing in the fact that I found a bar with it on tap, and now every grocery store and corner shop seems to have it in tall boys. This is awesome. Up to this point I'd been forced into buying Premium Malts from my local Family Mart, which is a fine macro lager in its own right, but still not that exciting. I stopped in my local convenience store for a good fruit juice and maybe some gyoza but left with a sixer of Edelpils that I can't even drink for another week (work says I'm on call this week). "What if they sell out of it before I'm off duty? I can't have that," I told myself. "I'd rather go hungry." And thats exactly what I did. Today I stopped off at the grocery store to pick up some peaches that I'd been told were in perfect shape right now and what did my eyes behold but MORE Edelpils! It took some convincing to leave the Edelpils behind and buy the peaches like I intended (which were delicious, by the way). I'm wondering if it's a new push by Sapporo to get more attention to there best brew? I'd love to see it take some of the shelf space away from Super Dry and I would probably have a few cans of it on hand at all times. I hope it sticks around for a while because I don't know if I can go back to a Edelpils free world.
