Y con este levantamos el ánimo pa'l fin de semana ... por lo menos los hombres, jaja. Es que nos merecíamos un aviso así en Uruguay, era hora che.  Aguante Dr Selby.

I purchased an eeePC 900 16G from Amazon with the intention of using it on my trip to blog and talk to my family back home using Skype. Little did I know that my wife would fall in love with it and want her own. This from someone who is not tech savvy. The small size makes it really comfortable to have use my lap and it does what I need it to.

I played around with the Xandros distribution that came installed on the eeePC and overall it does a pretty good job for what it's intended but I just couldn't get comfortable with it since it seemed to limit me at every turn. I wanted to install Anki, Gjiten, the GIMP and input for Japanese characters (with SCIM & Anthy) and Xandros was making it difficult. I looked around at my options and finally settled on eeebuntu. Since I use Ubuntu on all of my computers I'm most comfortable with that and I like idea of having a full featured compact laptop. It was really pretty easy to make a bootable USB drive and load the operating system from there. The instructions on the website were easy to follow and even though I had a few problems getting the webcam and the front mic to work, the forums provided the answers. I did turn off Compiz Fusion since I don't really care about the eye candy and I don't want the overhead. The only problem I'm still having is that Firefox tends to freeze up occasionally for 10 seconds before it continues. There seemed to be something on this in the forums but I haven't had time to look into it further. The only real issues that I have with the eeePC are that it takes a minute to get used to typing on the small keyboard but it really doesn't bother me (this entire post was done on the eeePC) and the small screen size can make things like doing photo editing difficult.

One of the things that I really like about the eeePC is the Ethernet port. I have read that many places in Japan provide Ethernet but not wireless (like MOS Burger) and I like the option of being able to plug into my router or modem if I need to work on them. There is also the issue of battery life but I really don't think it will cause me any grief when I'm on the road.

I thinking about tossing a Flip Video into my bags. The cool feature of the camera is the built-in USB connector and that it mounts as a USB mass storage device, so it plays nice with Linux. It's not an outstanding video camera but it's compact and simple to use. It something that you can just hand to someone and ask them take a video of you, they can figure it out without a manual (just press the red button). It might be fun and it might be wasted space. I found out about the Flip Video by stumbling across Shawn Power's video review of it on the Linux Journal's website (thanks Shawn! cool reviews and videos).

The only other piece of technology that I'm planning on bringing is a point and shoot camera. My Nikon Coolpix 3100 has some serious limitations even though it still takes very good pictures. I went and bought a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. I spent a lot of time agonizing over this purchase since I won't be buying another camera for a long time. The camera I had before the Nikon was a Canon T50 a 35mm film SLR which was a very nice camera for the short time I had it. Coming from an SLR film background even the best point and shoot is a big disappointment especially in low light conditions. I've accepted this and feel that the TZ5 is a good compromise. It's 28-280mm (35mm equivalent) zoom lens which is close to what I was using with the SLR and it can fit in a pocket, something I could never do with my SLR. I think the wide angle lens will really come in handy. The big disappointment, besides the image quality, is the macro capability. The reason I brought the Nikon was it's excellent macro capabilities. I shoot a lot of flowers and it nice to be able to get close. This evening I was trying to photograph a spider for a post on another blog and the TZ5 puts me too far away.

One of the really nice things about this pairing is that I can take the SD card out of the camera and put it into the slot on the eeePC, I don't need a cable or a card reader. I am even able to use the GIMP on the eeePC to do post processing on the photos. I even wrote this post on the eeePC and edited the screen shot with the GIMP.

I'm really hoping to have a little time in the evenings where I can make a small post with some photos and tell you about my trip while I'm there. We'll see how that goes.

Leaving tomorrow morning for two glorious weeks in Derbyshire, and I can't wait!  I say glorious in a hopeful vein because at this moment I'm having some extreme lower back trouble and it seems as if my beloved Lumix has given up the ghost.  Never mind - I've had this back "thing" on and off for years so I'm sort of used to it and the camera can be replaced - it just would have been nice if it had gone two weeks ago or some time after we were back but, so it goes.

So, it's off to pack and I'll 'see' you when I get back!

La prima cosa che salta all'occhio è il corpo macchina di colore rosso che sicuramente rende l'apparecchio decisamente "trendy" ma questo "dettaglio" non deve distrarre dalle ottime caratteristiche teniche , la qualità degli scatti e la perfetta ergonomia adatta anche alle mani grandi.

Bellissimo il grande display che all'occorrenza (per le foto tenendo la DMC-G1 al di sopra della folla ad esempio...) si apre e ruota ad ampio raggio come per le videocamere digitali.

Ultima cosa, il prezzo.... ad oggi è noto solamente quello per il mercato nord-americano: 799 dollarucci che sicuramente non verranno convertiti matematicamente in euro...

Dopo la Panasonic Lumix G1, è la volta della nuova micro quattro terzi di Olympus, per ora ancora un prototipo.

Come tutti gli anni è stata la passerella per rivelare alcuni dei prodotti più importanti delle varie marche (anche se altri mancano, tipo la Canon EOS 1Ds markIV che dovrebbe uscrire a breve essendo stata la markIII raggiunta dalla nuova 5D).

1. Micro Four Thirds System - Panasonic G1:

Il Micro Four Thirds System è un nuovo tipo di costruzione per macchine non propriamente reflex ma nemmeno compatte.

Permette di unire alcuni pregi delle camere Reflex a altri delle compatte. In pratica, grazie a lenti appositamente disegnate, permette di inserire un sensore che come dimensioni non raggiunge quelle delle reflex di categoria, ma grazie a un avvicinamento del piano pellicola/sensore alla focale dell'obiettivo permette un campo visivo quasi uguale. Garantendo così una "reflex" più compatta.

Nella illustrazione tratta da Dpreview capiamo meglio cosa succede.

La prima camera di questo tipo è la Panasonic Lumix G1 che monta un sensore di tipo Live Mos di cui non si sa ancora molto. Vedremo quando uscirà.

2. Nikon D90

Il successore della D80 permette ora filmati in HD 1080p, un sistema di pulizia automatico del sensore tipo quello della Canon, miglioramenti nella velocità, ma soprattutto un nuovo sensore con più mp e che continua il passaggio di tutte le fasce di reflex Nikon al sensore Cmos equiparandosi alla Canon abbandonando finalmente il CCD.

3. Canon EOS 5D Mark II

E qui ci divertiamo.

La nuova 5D ha un nuovo sensore, un nuovo processore, un nuovo e perfezionato sistema di pulizia del sensore, un nuovo monitor e tutta una serie di novità e migliorie che sarebbe lunghissimo e inutile elencarli tutti.

Fra le prime cose, notiamo che può far filmati a 1080p in HD, un filmato dimostrativo che ha fatto strabuzzare gli occhi a tutti lo si trova sul sito:

Ed è nonostante tutto una versione compressa.

Altra cosa degna di notaè la riduzione del gap delle microlenti del sensore (non è gapless come la 50D ma è comunque una garanzia di un sensore migliore). Inoltre la bontà di questo sensore e del nuovo processore permette di sfondare il muro dei 25000 iso (anche se con risultati non perfetti, una galleria che ci mostra il rumore ad altissimi iso la trovate qui http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/canoneos5dmkii_preview/ bisogna scrollare la barra in alto fino in fondo).

4. Sony Alpha 900

La novità qui sta nel sensore, Sony producendo sensori per Nikon con la tecnologia Cmos, abbandona pure lei il CCD e ci regala questa macchina con sensore pieno 35mm da quasi 25mp.

È la prima Sony di alta fascia, considerando che si possono montare lenti Zeiss se uno vuol spendere sui 3000 euro può considerare questa macchina. Semra dal punto di vista dell'elettronica fatta molto bene, è però orrenda a vedersi rispetto ai concorrenti.

5. Photoshop CS4

L'ennesima bula di Adobe che continua a venderci lo stesso programma di dieci anni fa con qualche miglioria a migliaia di euro a botta.

6. Canon EOS 50D

7. Leica S2

Mistero. Questa è la prima fotocamera digitale Leica che non è la riproposizione di fotocamere retrò e con caratteristiche, sulla carta, rivoluzionarie.

Questa macchina uscirà nel 2009 si dice e notiamo subito che è più piccola delle altre.

Questa macchina tondeggiante, però, monta un sensore di tipo CCD delle dimensioni di 30x45 mm cioè decisamente superiori a quelle delle normali reflex 35mm, portando inoltre in dote ben 37,5 mp. Restando però sotto il medio formato con cui probabilmente dovrà vedersela.

Pare abbia un processore a basso consumo molto più veloce delle altre medioformato, un autofocus molto più veloce e di nuovo tipo, però tutto questo senza alcuna specifica.

Ame qualche perplessità viene solo guardando il retro della fotocamera:

Mi pare mancano un po' troppe cose, a meno che non abbiano inventato un sistema innovativo con tanto di touch screen (manca anche un pannello lcd sul lato superiore).

Ken Rockwell nel suo sito http://www.kenrockwell.com fa giustamente notare che il formato 3:2 è decisamente una scelta un po' naif e che fondamentalmente finora Leica ha proposto prodotti di nicchia e un po' snobistici che farebbero pensare a una operazione perdente come fu per la Contax N-1.

Speriamo, ovviamente, di sbagliarci e che la Leica inizi finalmente a produrre fotocamere digitali all'altezza della sua fama e della sua storia.

Haha, that's all that is own my mind now. Well, besides the various assignments currently chucked at the back of my mind.

Went looking for a camera today. I could see my dad was pretty won over by my Lumix FX520. Haha, touchscreen feature won the day. He isn't too pleased with Lumix's general colour feature though. But seriously, even the salesperson said that Lumix holds a better compact camera range as compared to Canon (which he is bent on because of their colour). But when it comes to SLRs, Canon would be our choice I believe. Except, I'm not going to carry that bulky thing.

Compact + Digital --> Lumix 

So anyway, went to the Apple authorised reseller and asked them what to do with some of the Macbook problems I've been facing. And I did rattle off a little because it's not only one problem I've experienced. But three. The guy who answered my queries seemed a little dumbfounded. Either because he can't believe that it could be the Macbook's problem, or he thinks I'm one careless owner. I don't even know which is true.

Así que quería una cámara sencilla en su manejo, con una óptica aceptable y un precio interesante. Opciones había muchas, pues modelos de Sony, Olympus y Fuji cumplen estos requisitos. Lo cierto es que de las cámaras de Panasonic nada sabía, pero navegando me encontré con la Lumix FZ18 y comencé a leer muy buenas críticas. El paso siguiente fue comprarla después de un amplio "estudio de mercado". 

En abril compré la Panasonic DMC-FZ18. En el enlace están todas sus características técnicas, y entre ellas ISO 100-1600, lente Leica 28-504 mm, calidad RAW, 8 MPX y tarjeta SD.

La cámara es una verdadera maravilla. Son varias las cosas que quiero destacar que hacen de ella una opción más que interesante si lo que buscas es algo más que una compacta pero sin entrar en el mundo de las réflex. No esperes un análisis técnico, puesto que no tengo los conocimientos para ello. Simplemente contaré mi experiencia.

En primer lugar, es una cámara muy cómoda y ligera. La puedes llevar colgada durante horas del cuello que no notarás ni la más mínima molestia por peso. Por su tamaño podrás hacer fotos con una sola mano, aunque siempre será mejor utilizar las dos, pero en caso de necesidad no tendrás mayor problema. Y tengas las manos grandes o pequeñas no supone inconveniente alguno a la hora de manejarla. Llegarás a todos los controles.

Es muy rápida. Guarda las fotos en apenas unas centésimas.

La resolución es hasta de 8 MPX, por lo que podrás hacer fotos de gran tamaño. No es que sea un aspecto que yo valore demasiado, pues pienso que 5 MPX es más que suficiente para las fotografías que hago yo.

El zoom óptico es otro de los aspectos sobresalientes, pues alcanza 23x. Y la nitidez es buena aun al máximo, dependiendo de las condiciones en las que hagas las fotos, pero en general no da problemas de ruido. Debes tener en cuenta que a máxima resolución el zoom llegará hasta 18x, pero si la bajas tendrás la posibilidad de llegar hasta 23x. Y me refiero al zoom óptico, no al digital, que ahí sí pierde mucha calidad la foto.

Este es el aspecto de la cámara desde arriba con el zoom a tope. No está mal, ¿eh?.

Cuenta también con muchos y variados modos de escena, que en esta cámara realmente dan muy buen resultado. También tiene una función "Auto Inteligente" en el cual la propia cámara configura todos los parámetros, por lo que sólo deberás preocuparte de enfocar y disparar. Yo hago así la mayoría de las fotos, tanto en exterior como en interior y salen perfectamente.

El estabilizador de imagen también es excelente, por malo que sea tu pulso no debes preocuparte, la cámara se encargará de que la foto no salga movida.

Puedes elegir la vista a través de la pantalla LCD o bien por el visor. Eso ya son gustos. Yo prefiero hacerlo a través del visor, por una cuestión de comodidad. La información en pantalla es muy completa, pues aparece la resolución, el modo de escena utilizado, la batería restante, la memoria libre, el programa de estabilización seleccionado y el modo de disparo.

Los formatos que admite son 4:3, 16:9 y 3:2. Las fotos de paisajes a 16:9 son una muy buena opción. En este punto añadir que la resolución varía en función del formato. P.ej., a 4:3 alcanza el máximo, 8 MPX, pero a 16:9 como mucho serán de 6 MPX, y podrás hacerlas como mucho a 7 MPX a 3:2. A mi esta diferencia no me importa demasiado, porque suelo hacer las fotos con una resolución de 5 MPX, pero no está de más advertirlo.

La autonomía de la batería también es muy buena. Yo he llegado a hacer casi 400 fotos y aún podría haber hecho más antes de que se agotara.

Podrás grabar vídeo con sonido, que para una emergencia no está de más.

Por supuesto también podrás configurar todo de forma manual, aunque me imagino que si buscas eso, preferirás las prestaciones de una réflex.

Pero no todo es positivo.

La cámara al ser toda de plástico no da sensación de robustez. Y el control del zoom parece especialmente frágil, pues es una pequeña palanca que rodea el disparador. Aunque yo en estos seis meses de uso no he tenido problema alguno.

El flash tampoco es ninguna maravilla. Y tienes que accionarlo manualmente, es decir, que si necesitas flash la cámara no lo activa. En la parte izquierda del visor hay un botón que lo libera y deberás pulsarlo cuando creas conveniente.

A pesar de todo, son muchísimas más las ventajas. Es un producto recomendable 100% si piensas que una compacta se te queda pequeña y lo único que pretendes es hacer buenas fotos, olvidando isos, obturadores, diafragmas y demás.

El precio actual es inferior a 280 €.

Even dua tahunan ini seperti biasanya, menjadi kesempatan bagi para produsen kamera digital untuk memperkenalkan teknologi baru dan produk barunya kepada konsumen. Khusus untuk pameran tahun ini, kejutan yang terjadi cukup banyak juga, terlebih sejak diperkenalkannya format baru Micro Four Thirds yang banyak menarik minat para fotografer dunia. Belum lagi terobosan dalam sensor SuperCCD baru dari Fuji, pemakaian sensor Foveon dalam kamera saku dan hadirnya sebuah program pengolah gambar yang profesional yaitu Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite 4.

Inilah beberapa berita yang cukup menggembirakan bagi dunia fotografi digital :

• Leica memperkenalkan DSLR profesionalnya yang bernama Leica S2 dengan sensor yang 56% lebih besar daripada sensor DSLR Full frame. Sensor ini beresolusi 37.5 MP, dengan ukuran 30 x 45 mm yang lebih dari cukup untuk kebutuhan fotografi profesional.
• Sigma memperkenalkan kamera-kamera baru dengan sensor Foveon X3 beresolusi 14 MP, yaitu Sigma SD15 (kamera DSLR) dan Sigma DP2 (kamera saku yang lensanya fix di 24,2 mm).
• Nikon akhirnya bersedia membuat motor auto fokus SWM pada lensa primenya. Kali ini lensa Nikkor 50mm f/1.4G telah menyandang kode AF-S sehingga bisa dipakai di Nikon D40/D60. Sayangnya harga lensa fix ini hampir seharga Nikon D40 itu sendiri, duh Nikon...
• Format Micro 4/3 yang diusung Olympus dan Panasonic telah menghasilkan sebuah kamera yang fenomenal yaitu Lumix G1. Hadir dengan lensa kit Lumix 14-45mm, kamera tanpa mirror ini memiliki ukuran yang lebih kecil dari DSLR terkecil di dunia, Olympus E410/E420. Sementara itu, Olympus menampikan prototype kamera saku Micro 4/3 yang tidak memakai jendela bidik, hanya mengandalkan layar LCD utama layaknya kamera saku pada umumnya.
• Fujifilm memperkenalkan sensor baru bernama SuperCCD EXR dengan ukuran 1/1,6 inci beresolusi 12 MP. nantinya, Fuji meyakinkan kalau kamera Fuji mendatang yang memakai sensor ini mampu memberi kualitas foto pada ISO tinggi yang lebih baik daripada Fuji F31 yang legendaris itu. Selain itu, Fuji juga memperkenalkan teknologi foto 3 dimensi, yang diambil memakai 2 lensa layaknya mata manusia. Bila teknologi ini menajdi standar, maka nantinya kamera masa depan akan memakai dua lensa. Bayangkan bila sebuah DSLR memakai dua lensa :)
• Dunia DSLR Full-frame mendapat banyak anggota baru, simak saja Sony Alpha A900 dengan resolusi tertinggi saat ini, 24 MP. Sebagai pesaing, hadir Canon EOS 5D mark II yang memakai fitur video pertama di format Full-frame. Tampaknya pesaing Nikon D700 semakin banyak nih...
• Dunia DSLR pemula juga mendapat anggota baru, sambutlah Pentax K-m (pentax K2000) yang tampaknya meniru langkah Canon saat membuat EOS 1000D. Saat Pentax K200D (dan Canon EOS 450D) tak lagi terjangkau oleh kantong pemula, maka Pentax dan Canon harus berpikir untuk membuat satu lagi kamera yang benar-benar terjangkau. Oleh kamera itu, Pentax K-m ini harganya sama dengan EOS 1000D dan juga Nikon D60 di kisaran 6 juta plus lensa kit, cukup wajar dan bersahabat kan?

I love October in Kuwait, when the temperatures swing dramatically into the comfortable zone, and we can even start eating outside at night. We are yearning to go back to the Souk Mubarakiyya after church on Fridays, or on a relaxed Saturday night. Or Paul's in the Fehaheel Al Kout Mall, out by the fountains. For six months, Kuwait is a delightful place to be. While my fellow Americans - or at least those not stationed in Kuwait or Iraq or Qatar - are slogging their way through the rain and wind and snow, we are basking in a sweet mostly-warm climate, our reward for the brutality of the summers here.

Although - there ARE people who love the heat! I even notice that I am not so uncomfortable in the summers as I once was. Unless it is humid, I don't even break a sweat when I am out, or else it is so hot that it is just evaporating off me and I don't even know it.

Yesterday, when I got up, it was too late to catch the sunrise, but what I did catch was lovely - a whole fleet of boats out fishing. Thanks to Enviro Girl telling me about the enhanced zoom capability on my camera, I was able to get some fairly clear shots, even at a distance:

Warning: Do not mess with the insides of the camera unless you know what you are doing.

First and foremost, always read your camera manual. I still have mine and I keep it safe with all my current camera equipment. If there isn't any info on Infrared photography anywhere than test out the camera. All that is needed is a remote control. I have two digital cameras, a Pentax K100D and a Lumix TZ1, that I use, so I tested them both by the standards that I read off of DPFWIW. White light means infrared ready with short exposures. Red light means red shifted camera with long exposures. No light means use infrared film or a different digital camera.

Both cameras yielded results that shows I need a tripod and to know how to white balance with a photo editing program. Now there is the option of googling to see if said model camera is on some kind of IR list. There are tons of photographers who post all types of neat things about their cameras. Some Canon photographers remove their IR Blocking filters. The bad thing, all there photos have a colour shift. The good thing, there are websites that show how to correct problems like that. They just cost some money. It's always better to see what can be done before taking out the hammer.

Masih ingat betapa istilah stabilizer terasa asing di telinga pada masa lalu? Lumix-lah yang konsisten mempromosikan teknologi OIS-nya yang diimplementasikan pada semua jajaran kameranya. Pernah dengar nama Leica? Menyadari bahwa soal membuat lensa tentu bukan hal yang mudah, Lumix menggandeng produsen lensa kelas dunia, Leica, untuk digunakan di hampir seluruh kamera Lumix. Konsistensi Lumix terus berlanjut hingga puncaknya Panasonic memutuskan bergabung dengan Olympus untuk mewujudkan standar baru bernama Micro Four Thirds. Hebatnya, generasi kamera pertama berformat micro ini justru lebih dahulu diperkenalkan oleh Panasonic dengan produk anyarnya, Lumix DMC-G1, yang menjadi kamera pertama di dunia yang berformat Micro Four Thirds!

Setelah puas membaca preview lengkap dari DPreview, saya tergerak ingin menuliskan opini dan fakta yang ada seputar Lumix G1 ini. Baiklah, kita berangkat saja dari definisi apakah format Micro Four Thirds ini. Jangan terkecoh, format baru ini bukanlah format untuk kamera DSLR. Format ini akan menjadi open standard untuk manufaktur kamera kecil bersensor Four Thirds / DSLR (crop factor 2x) yang lensanya bisa dilepas. Kalau lensanya bisa dilepas, mengapa kamera ini bukan tergolong kamera DSLR? Karena di kamera ini tidak ada cermin yang bergerak turun naik, sehingga tidak ada jendela bidik optik dan tidak ada modul auto fokus berbasis phase-detect. Dengan meniadakan cermin, jendela bidik optik dan modul AF, ukuran kamera bisa dibuat jadi lebih kecil dan ringkas. Soal lensa, meski semua lensa Four Thirds biasa bisa dipasang di kamera format micro (dengan sebuah adapter), tetap saja ada lensa khusus yang ditujukan untuk pendamping kamera micro ini. Lensa format micro memiliki diameter yang lebih kecil namun tetap memiliki kemampuan optik yang sama, bahkan memiliki contact-pin yang lebih banyak. Sementara ini telah tersedia lensa Lumix G vario 14-45mm (setara 28-90mm) f/3.5-5.6 OIS dan pasangannya 45-200 (setara 90-400mm) f/4-5.6 OIS yang sudah mencukupi untuk memulai hobi fotografi. Kedepannya akan diluncurkan lensa sapujagad 14-140mm (setara 28-280mm) f/4-5.6 OIS, lensa super wide 7-14mm (setara 14-28mm) f/4 dan lensa prime 20mm (setara 40mm) f/1.7 yang kesemuanya berformat Micro Four Thirds.

Lumix G1 memiliki sensor LiveMOS 12 MP yang mampu memberi hasil foto dalam 3 aspek rasio, yaitu 4:3, 3:2 dan 16:9. Sensor ini persis sama seperti yang dipakai di kamera DSLR Olympus mulai dari E410 hingga E3, oleh karenanya sensitivitasnya bisa mencapai hingga ISO 3200 (dengan noise level yang masih dapat diterima). Meski sedikit lebih kecil dibanding sensor DSLR Nikon atau Canon (APS-C), sensor ini masih jauh lebih besar daripada sensor prosumer manapun (yang  umumnya berukuran 2/3 inci atau 1/1,8 inci). Kinerja shutternya juga lumayan cepat dengan maksimal hingga 1/4000 detik, flash sync hingga 1/160 detik dan continuous mode hingga 3 fps (unlimited JPEG) atau 7 file RAW. Tersedia lampu kilat yang memiliki guide number 10.5 dan tersedia flash hot shoe yang mendukung mode TTL (tidak ada info apakah mendukung wireless flash atau tidak). Layar LCD di bagian belakang bisa diputar, memiliki ukuran 3 inci yang hebatnya dengan aspek rasio 3:2 (lebih lebar dari LCD kamera lain). Satu hal yang 'hilang' dari kamera ini adalah kemampuan merekam video, agak aneh memang, karena kini kamera DSLR pun sudah mulai memperkenalkan fitur movie beresolusi HD. Padahal dengan sensor besar, sistem contrast detect AF dan lensa yang baik, fitur movie pada Lumix G1 ini pasti akan sangat berguna.

Inovasi Panasonic yang paling luar biasa dalam membuat Lumix G1 adalah bagaimana Lumix harus mendekati kamera DSLR dalam dua hal : jendela bidik dan kinerja auto fokus. Kita kupas yang pertama terlebih dahulu. Jendela bidik optik (OVF), apalagi dari kamera DSLR Full frame, memiliki keistimewaan tersendiri yang tidak bisa digantikan oleh layar LCD. Fotografer profesional mengandalkan ketepatan fokus dan komposisi melalui jendela ini. Mereka bahkan bisa mengganti lapisan focusing screen pada jendela bidik sesuai kebutuhan. Lumix dalam hal ini berupaya membuat jendela bidik elektronik (EVF) yang sedapat mungkin memberi kenyamanan saat memotret sehingga diharapkan para pemakai DSLR tidak harus banyak beradaptasi saat beralih dari OVF ke EVF. Menurut preview yang saya baca, teknologi jendela bidik ini adalah seperti ini :

"According Panasonic LCOS technology can produce much higher resolution images than liquid crystal display or plasma display technologies. Compared to conventional LCDs in which the back light is projected through RGB filters and into the eye, in LCOS, liquid crystals are applied directly to the surface of a silicon chip coated with a highly reflective aluminized layer. RGB light is then reflected off this surface and into the eye, therefore minimizing overall color loss often associated with the low quality of color filters in conventional LCDs. This allows the G1's Live Viewfinder to achieve over 90% of the NTSC color gamut (this, apparently, is unusually high). The G1's single panel display chip shows the red, green and blue components in succession (field sequential display) - your brain does the combining to produce the full color image. This means you can't see the individual pixels - there's no gap between them (there's no mesh surrounding the color filters such as in conventional LCD displays). The viewfinder is able to refresh the three RGB colors at a rate of 60Hz, therefore achieving the 60fps Full-Time Live View."

Artinya, refresh-rate nya sudah mencapai 60 fps, sehingga akan tampak halus dan nyaman di mata. Disamping itu, batas antara piksel RGB tidak tampak lagi sehingga gambar yang dilihat di layar EVF tidak tampak terkotak-kotak (pixelated). Menurut saya, meski sistem EVF masih punya kelemahan dibanding OVF, tapi tetap saja ada juga keuntungannya. Dengan EVF, kita bisa melihat preview sesungguhnya dari exposure dan setting white balance yang dipilih saat itu, suatu hal yang mustahil saat memakai OVF pada kamera DSLR.

Kita bahas soal yang paling penting, yaitu sistem kerja dari auto fokus kamera. Dalam dunia DSLR, auto fokus menjadi hal yang amat vital. Kecepatan dan ketepatan kamera dalam mengunci objek amat mempengaruhi reputasi dari kamera tersebut. Kunci dari kinerja AF yang cepat dari kamera DSLR adalah adanya perangkat khusus yang bernama modul AF berteknologi phase-detect, yang jauh lebih unggul dibanding prinsip auto fokus berbasis sensor (contrast-detect) yang biasa dipakai di kamera prosumer, kamera saku dan kamera ponsel. Tantangan bagaimana membuat auto fokus pada kamera non DSLR yang kecepatannya mendekati kamera DSLR membuat Panasonic berupaya habis-habisan membuat alogritma AF contrast-detect yang amat responsif dan cepat, dan tampaknya cukup berhasil. Berikut kutipannya :

"The good news is that - even in the prototypes we've tried - Panasonic's engineers have kept true to their word; the focus is not only astonishingly fast for a contrast detect system; it's easily as fast as any conventional SLR in this class. And unlike even most mid-range SLRs you get 23 area auto AF and the ability to place a single AF point almost anywhere in the frame - and that's before you throw in Panasonic's remarkable subject tracking AF and Face Detection. I'm not convinced it's quite as good in continuous focus as it is in single shot, but until we've got a final production model I'll just say that Panasonic seems to have overcome the main problem currently associated with using live view on an SLR; focus speed."

Artinya, kecepatan AF dari Lumix G1 bisa dibilang mendekati kamera DSLR entry-level, sehingga dengan kemampuan prosesor yang tinggi sebenarnya sistem contrast-detect bisa mendekati kecepatan phase-detect dari DSLR. Sistem AF dari Lumix G1 semakin mengagumkan dengan adanya 23 titik AF, AF tracking dan face-detection AF priority. O ya, karena memiliki lensa yang bisa dilepas, Lumix G1 juga mendukung manual fokus sepenuhnya dengan memutar lensa. Bahkan, preview di layar bisa diperbesar untuk memastikan ketepatan fokusnya. Satu hal yang (lagi-lagi) tidak mungkin dilakukan di kamera DSLR (kecuali yang telah memiliki fitur live-view).

Saya acungi jempol untuk Panasonic dalam usahanya menghadirkan solusi cerdas bagi pecinta fotografi dengan hadirnya Lumix G1 ini. Bagi mereka yang sudah jenuh mencari prosumer yang memiliki sensor besar, lupakanlah pencarian tersebut, G1 inilah jawaban terbaik buat anda. Bila anda mencari DSLR yang kecil, harganya murah (dan lensanya pun murah) dan mudah digunakan, mungkin anda bisa lupakan pencarian DSLR tersebut dan memilih G1 ini. Betul bahwa para profesional tentu akan terus berada di jalur DSLR, sementara para pemula akan tetap memakai kamera saku. Nah, bagi para pecinta fotografi, amatir, hobbyist, yang dananya terbatas tapi tidak ingin berkompromi dengan kualitas, bisa jadi inilah solusi terbaik yang ada saat ini.

Sebagai penutup, saya coba susun fitur andalan dari Lumix G1 yang membuat saya dan pastinya jutaan orang di dunia mengagumi kehebatan Lumix G1 ini :

• Sensor : Four thirds, live MOS, 12 MP, SSWF/anti debu, ISO 3200 (plus intelligent ISO)

Nesse caso da Panasonic Lumix G1, a qual, com seu sensor Live MOS de 12,1 megapixels pesa somente 385 gramas e conta com 20 milímestros de espessura. Dispõe de estabilizador de imagem óptico (MegaOIS) e tela de 3 polegadas com alta resolução.

Seu processador de imagem é Venus Engine HD e possui o sistema de filtro antipolvo, próprio da Olympus, Supersonic Wave Filter.

Nach einigen Spekulationen ist die Katze nun aus dem Sack. Der brandneue Micro Four Thirds Standard hat bereits kurz nach seiner Veröffentlichung - rechtzeitig zur Photokina - das erste konkrete Produkt auf den Markt entlassen. Und diesmal ist es in der Entwicklungsgemeinschaft Olympus - Panasonic nicht wie in den vergangenen Jahren Olympus wie bei der E330 und der Lumix L1 oder später der L10, sondern die Kollegen / Konkurrenten von Panasonic. Das Design des neuen Wunderkastens ohne Spiegel ist ziemlich konservativ bieder an das übliche DSLR-Design angelehnt, also konzentrieren wir uns auf die inneren Werte.

Und es scheint so, als ob Panasonic in den letzten Jahren nur darauf hin entwickelt hätte, diese Kamera auf den Markt zu bringen. All die nützlichen Features aus der LX3 und der FZ28 erfahren in diesem neuen System ihre Veredelung. Sowohl der "Aufsteiger" von der digitalen Kompaktknipse als auch der erfahrene Amateur-Fotograf, der nicht gerne auf Motivprogrämmchen zurückgreift, sollte mit dieser Kamera bestens bedient werden.

Beim Sensor hat man nach der FZ28 erneut Vernunft bewiesen und es bei "nur" 12 Megapixeln belassen. Der Chip könnte ein alter Bekannter aus der Olympus E3 sein und das wäre ja nicht das Schlechteste. Live-Preview in Vollendung zeigt auch im Sucher das Bild im eingestellten Seitenverhältnis, ganz so wie es dann anschließend auf der CF-Karte landet.

Dem Vernehmen nach ist der gefürchtete elektronische Sucher ein echter Knaller, hoch aufgelöst und mit innovativen Materialien gefertigt (LCOS  - liquid crystal on silicon) soll er sich -  groß, hell und klar im Sucherbild - eher in der Nähe der semiprofessionellen Spiegelreflexen wiederfinden als an digitale Kompaktknipsen zu erinnern.

Bleibt zu hoffen, dass die Bildqualität mit den offenbaren Handlingvorteilen und der Vielzahl an innovativen Features standhalten kann. Die Eigenwerbung spricht derweil schonmal von "exceptional image quality". Warten wir einfach die ersten Labortests ab.

Tatsächlich ist dem asiatischen Riesen mit dem genauen Ohr an der Kundschaft durchaus zuzutrauen, dass sie sich mit diesem Produkt einen erklecklichen Anteil an diesem heiß umkämpften Markt sichern.

Passende Objektive

Ein neuer Standard, neue Objektive. Damit auch alle Features der neuen Lumix G1 voll zur Geltung kommen können, empfielt sich der Einsatz der neuen Lumix-Objektive, die ebenfalls mit der G1 veröffentlicht wurden. Man beachte, dass der Leica-Brand an dieser Stelle weggefallen ist. Hier hat der Testballon mit der L1 und L10 wohl gezeigt, dass die Kundschaft nicht in ausreichendem Maße bereit ist, für den Namen Leica im geforderten Maß Geld auf die Ladentheke zu legen. Und auch hier befällt einen wieder der Verdacht, dass die DSLR-Produkte der letzten Jahre (L1, L10) mehr der Vorbereitung dieses Produkts als dem Gewinn von tatsächlichen Marktanteilen zugedacht war. Erfahrung gewinnen, die Reaktion der Kundschaft austesten, das scheint der hauptsächliche Hintergrund dieser Produkte gewesen zu sein.

Natürlich wäre kein Hersteller so waghalsig, die Kundschaft dergestalt vor den Kopf zu stoßen, dass die Nutzung bisher erworbener Objektive des eigenen Systems gar nicht mehr möglich ist. Und so gibt es auch hier einen Adapterring zur Nutzung "normaler" Four Thirds - Objektive, allerdings mit Einschränkungen in Bezug auf die nutzbaren Autofokus-Eigenschaften. Einzig die zuletzt veröffentlichten Leica-Objektive, die Kontrast-AF unterstützen, scheinen diesen Einschränkungen nicht zu unterliegen. Beide neuen, hier abgebildeten Objektive haben den bewährten optischen Bildstabilisator Mega O.I.S. eingebaut, der Sensor hat keine Stabilisierung im Gehäuse!
