Google still contend that an Android-based device, aka the GPhone, will be out in the second half of 2008. Certainly, the pressure is mounting with iPhone 3G out in the wild, and RIM, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and LG announcing a stellar lineup for the rest of year (see this post for RIM, this post for Nokia, this post for Sony Ericsson, post one and two for Samsung, and this one for LG). Not to mention, yesterday's Microsoft employee memo by Steve Ballmer hinting at a Zune phone on the horizon. So is GPhone a pipe dream? I think not, and blogosphere certainly does not think so. However, when will it launch is debatable. I believe that Google will most probably announce the GPhone in 2009 at their major developer shin-dig.

Tanggal 29 Januari 2006 saya membeli satu set TV plasma merek LG (type 42PX3) di Carrefour Lebak Bulus, Jakarta Selatan, dengan harga Rp 16.599.000. Saat itu diberikan kartu jaminan asli LG sehingga tidak curiga tentang asal-usul TV tersebut. Pertimbangan membeli barang elektronik di Carrefour karena dekat dengan tempat tinggal.

Tanggal 15 Januari 2008 (belum dua tahun dari saat beli) TV tersebut tiba-tiba mati dan tidak bisa dihidupkan lagi. Segera saya menghubungi Pusat Pelanggan LG yang tertulis pada kartu garansi LG dari Carrefour. Setelah diperiksa teknisi LG, ternyata TV dimaksud berasal dari Black Market (”BM”)/produk ilegal yang masuk ke Indonesia. Ini dapat diketahui berdasarkan nomor seri yang tercantum pada TV plasma (401HJF52244) yang dinyatakan bukan manufactured code LG.

Akibatnya, Pusat Pelanggan LG menolak untuk melakukan perbaikan atas TV yang bukan dirakit oleh LG. Namun, dengan sedikit memaksa akhirnya TV diperbaiki dengan biaya Rp 2.515.205. Saya telah mengirim surat kepada pimpinan Carrefour pada tanggal 13 Februari 2008 tentang komplain atas hal tersebut yang sangat merugikan konsumen dan meminta agar TV ilegal tersebut dapat ditarik untuk diganti dengan produk LG yang asli.

Namun, hingga saat ini tidak ada tanggapan dari pihak Carrefour. Sesuai penjelasan dari pihak LG Electronic Indonesia (LGEI), Carrefour melakukan hal tersebut untuk mendapatkan keuntungan yang lebih besar dengan merugikan pihak lain, dalam hal ini LGEI, dan konsumen. Konsumen yang menjadi korban Carrefour sudah cukup banyak. Bahkan, LGEI pun pernah mempermasalahkan hal ini ke Carrefour, dan Carrefour sudah berjanji untuk tidak mengulangi perbuatannya.

Ok, so over the last week or so we were lent an LG Chocolate 3 for Verizon (by a TeenTechBlog friend who would prefer to remain Anonymous :) ). We put it through its paces- you know made some texts and calls, checked some V Cast, etc., and to summarize this phone in two words: Very Good. To find out what we liked and didn't like- as well as more detail besides the words Very Good, hit the more link.

We'll do this in the same style of our usual hands on/ first look.

Features:

• Pretty thin yet very sturdy feel- We liked the design of the Chocolate 3, especially that HUGE screen on the front- changing music tracks, viewing text and pix, and even taking pix with it, was great and extremely easy (though we would've liked to have the ability to "Quick Reply" to a text without having to open up the phone). The back of the phone is a smooth feel, that felt pretty strong, the front though- even with the great screen- was very shiny, and that means a lot of fingerprints and scratches. The phone is pretty thin as well for a flip phone, and should fit comfortably in a jeans pocket.

• 2.2 inch inside screen and a 1.76 inch front screen with Scroll Wheel- We mentioned the front screen above, but the inside screen is also HUGE and very bright and colorful- making it very easy to read text, view pix and phone numbers, and really anything else you'd do with a phone.

• 2 megapixel camera with video support- The camera takes pretty good pix for a phone, but like the Instinct (we reviewed here), the camera here will not be replacing your regular camera anytime soon.
• Built in Mp3 player with 1 GB of memory built in- We loved this part of the phone. Syncing music was similar to what we would do with our iPods and iTunes (thanks to Verizon's free V Cast Music with Rhapsody player- we'll cover that more on Verizon and Rhapsody later. You can also use other players like Windows Media Player for transferring songs if you want), and don't even get us started on the sound. It was LOUD and EXTREMELY clear. The 1 GB of memory is also a nice touch, and for a music phone like this, it is really great to have the ability to load up 250 songs out of the box (it includes a USB cable in the box for syncing with your computer- as well as charging the phone).
• Built in FM Transmitter for Music- This allows you to play your songs over a car stereo's FM radio (that is once you find an empty station on your car's radio, and set the same station on your phone). This was simple and most of the time worked well from wherever I sat in my family's minivan. Just a note on this feature- for best results you may want to keep the phone open instead of closed. From my tests with it, I got static- though not terrible- more often when the phone was closed, and when I kept it open, I most of the time got perfect quality.
• Micro SD card slot- This slot supports adding up to an 8 GB card- for those of you with a huge music collection.
• 3.5 mm Standard Headphone Jack­- Lets you use your regular headphones. It works as it should, and even with iPhone headphones!
• Verizon 3G- This is VERY fast, and downloading a 3 minute song with it took less than a minute- and I didn't even have perfect coverage!
• V Cast- This phone has the whole set- V Cast Music, V Cast Video (the quality by the way is not the greatest with videos coming in very fuzzy and unclear), and VZ Navigator (for all your GPS needs- also includes traffic updates, which is a nice thing to have- especially when it will tell you where exactly the traffic is and how long the delay is there :) )
• V Cast Music with Rhapsody- We thought we should give you a little more info on this as it is a pretty big part of the phone. This works like other phone song download services, you pay usually $1.99 and get your song downloaded straight to your phone on the go. Now is where the good part begins. You download that Rhapsody player with V Cast from here, set up an account for your phone number, and when you log in after downloading your song from your phone- you'll receive an alert asking you if you want to download an Mp3 version of that song to your computer for FREE. No more buying the same songs twice (though here you are paying $1.99 over the regular $0.99 you'd find on iTunes), and you can now use that Mp3 file to put that downloaded song on your regular iPod or Mp3 player! O, and this also works for other Verizon phones like the LG Voyager and Venus, and Motorola's Razr 2 V9m (for a list of compatible phones click here)

• Great Call Quality- This may get overlooked with all these features, but this phone does have some really nice call quality- with calls sounding clear on our end and with the person we called.

Now let's get to some of the bad parts of the phone.

Drawbacks:

• FM Transmitter works ONLY for Music- Something that we would have like to see- especially with the no talking on your cell phone while driving laws- was the ability to use this feature for calls as well. It would definitely make it easier for drivers even where that law isn't intact.
• Front of Phone gets a lot of Fingerprints and Scratches- Not the end of the world- those of us who own or owned iPods know how the back of that gets scratched- but still it would have been nice not see such a good display get damaged so easily.
• V Cast with Rhapsody costs an extra $1 than buying a song from a Computer and transferring it to the phone- We don't really get the logic behind this, as Verizon includes a USB cable in the box for syncing, and Rhapsody only charges $.99 per song when you buy from a computer.
• Video quality not the best, and is also not viewable on the front screen- Ok, so this wont replace your TV anytime soon, and again this isn't such a big deal. A question we had- and again don't see the logic behind- is why can't we view our V Cast and other videos from the HUGE front screen. Trust us, when you see the phone in person you'll see how big that screen is.
• No answering text from front screen- We know we said this earlier, but it was a big problem to us, and would make lives definitely easier.

Our Verdict: Very, very good phone. Those few drawbacks take away from it a little, but the great music and call quality make this phone great, and that huge front screen (it is that good) with Scroll Wheel (for easy navigation) just make it even better.

I would hands down recommend this phone for a person who wants a good music player and cell phone in one device- and doesn't want to pay AT&T that $70 a month for the iPhone 3G, someone who wants a cool phone that at the same time works very well, or someone on Verizon who doesn't want a touchscreen phone like the Dare or Voyager, but still wants a very good phone.

The price of the phone is $129.99 with a 2 year contract from Verizon's site, and comes in either Light Blue or Black.

So I've had breakfast and I go to my PC to check email and messages. My wireless network at home now consists of a variety of devices and networks linked together. These include my Entertainment Server which links to various TV's around the house, the Sky Dish, cable TV, media audio players and recorders, HD radio tuner as well as the Toshiba Fenininity Server which allows us to control and monitor the stove, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer, climate control, breadmaker and a host of other appliances not to mention the HVS climate control.

I also have the latest Kindle which lets all of us read our personalised news. It aggregates the top stories from mother Herald as well as other papers and magazines of interest so we all get the version we want. Scared the hell out of me the other day when I opened my wife's logon by accident and all I saw was stories about TV and filmstars and their failed marriages and getting their 23rd adopted child out of Afghanistan which is the new Darfur. But then that is the beauty of it that we all get MeNews and not what someone else wants us to read.

I'm still into social networking in a big way, but have a number of portals that manage and aggregate each of my networks. I check my Music Portal which manages all the sites where I showcase my music. Now I can load my new songs, video's, blogs and gig calendar onto one site and it updates the 127 sites I feature on in one hit, according to each sites unique specification.

So it's time to go. I leave the house and activate the alarm which sends a signal to my iPhone to say the system is now armed and hop in the car. I drop the iPhone onto the little tray beside my seat and as I put the key into the ignition and my seat and steering wheel adjust itself to my preferred positions, my phone announces itself to the Wireless CANBUS so that it has access to the entertainment system.

I tell my integrated GPS navigation unit to take me to 'the office' select the podcast I want to listen to from those that are just audio as I don't want to get pinged by the distraction laws and get on the road. As I near the top of Chartwell Drive, my podcast pauses (I used to hate missing stuff when the old system just muted the sound) and the nav tells me that there is a serious traffic incident on High Rd that it has picked up on TMC and would I like to route around it. I say yes, and it seemlessly takes me on down Diana drive and I arrive at work right on time.

As I wait at a set of lights I check the Buddy feature on my GPS and see an image of my wife's car crawling along Bush Rd on her way to work. Her unit beeps to alert her that I have checked her location and she sends me a smart message back by tapping on the SMS keyboard on her nav unit which uses Bluetooth to send the message via her phone. Her car and system is a bit older than mine. 2009.

When I get to work my phone opens the carpark grill and after I have parked the car, it unlocks the door into the building and then into my office. I fire up my  Touchbook which has just been upgraded to Vista ("WE" like to be cautious about our computer network and go to the machine in the kitchen for a perfectly fluffy flat white.

As I have done forever, I start my day with email. My touchscreen notebook is now running Windows Vista Touch and although Microsoft has announced their new OS I will be using this one for another couple of years until our IT Department is comfortable that it is reasonably robust, especially given that it took 3 years to get most of the kinks out of Vista and for a while they went back to offering Windows XP again as an option in the 2nd half of 2009.

One thing that we have now universally adopted is Unified Communications. All my voicemail whether it comes from my landline, mobile or email is now waiting for me in my Inbox and with my iPhone or my notebook.

My days haven't changed much. Probably the only major difference is that I do now use video on a lot of my phone calls so I can see the person I am talking to. This has saved me a lot of wasted travel time given the disaster that is Auckland's roads today. They have started building the Auckland Harbour Tunnel, but it will be a couple more years before it opens for buses and T3 (cars with at least 3 peple in them) let alone ordinary traffic. So many meetings have been replaced by necessity with vidphone calls. Of course I can also do this on my iPhone 6, but unless I'm doing it over the Wireless LAN (and we still don't have one in the office) the costs are prohibitive.

At lunch time I quite often walk to the Subway for some exercise and of course their food has the Heart Tick. On my way, I check out their menu on my iPhone and wonder if the food will look as good as the picture. I specify exactly what time I will get there. On the way back I get the phone to play me some Utterz messages from friends while I'm walking.

On the way home I drive past a bar and get a Speights Mates message saying there is a Happy Hour Running and sending me an eCoupon to get 2 for one in the next half hour and prompting me to hit the forward button to send the same coupon to any of my personal Speight's Mates who are within a 2km vicinity to come and join me for an after work beer. I love location based marketing and decide it is only right to support people who have invested in this technology given that I helped to develop it. Isn't that called the fruits of your labour? Yes. I know hops aren't strictly fruit.

Before dinner, I go to my home studio and record a lead track on my Gibson LP Guitar onto my 8 track TASCAM for my latest song, nothing has changed there really, call me old fashioned. I still have my music on loads of web sites and while I've sold some songs, I haven't scored a number one hit yet.

I bought the new Internet TV Aggregation Server last year and replaced my MySky. Now that I have cable for internet as well as TV, I can cherry pick and watch exactly what I want when I want and am no longer subject to the whims of SKy TV. Yes, I still subscribe to Sky Sports Channel because they have exclusive rights for many events that NZ teams compete in such as All Blacks Rugby and do support NZ sport better than anything else, especially the biased commentators, although I wuldn't have a problem if Murray Mexted got some new material, but the rest is pretty much free. I don't have to watch ads although many programs have very overt displays of product i the story.

I finally got an 80" TV, the largest my wife would let me buy, and that wasn't easy. Sometimes we have multple screens running so that we can watch different things at once and have adapted to that. We tried the VR glasses from the new Nintendo, but they are very antisocial. Awesome for 3D movies tough! Home entertainment is now awesome. No more channels full of reruns of programs we have already seen umpteen times, I never have to sit through another show of Friends again! Now I can see exactly what I want when I want, subject to agreement in the house of course and we all have to compromise sometimes,

Along with cable came free international calling to anywhere in the world for a modest flat fee, so I don't use Skype much anymore. Finally a little music from iLike at the end of the day. I kept my CD's and vinyl as souvenirs, but for a flat fee of $10 a month to our ISP, the house can access and download unlimited music from almost all record companies in MPEG 9 which is great quality at 960kbit/s.

Not a lot has changed in 5 years, but life is certtainly a little easier than it used to be.

Dada la regulación española y la no legislación histórica con respecto a las televisiones locales, la previsión es que, como pronto, hasta 2010 no haya un sistema de televisión digital en movilidad (DVB-H) implantado. Precisamente LG, ha sido una de las marcas afectadas por este retraso, ya que estaba preparado para lanzar sus primeros terminales en las fechas inicialmente señaladas por el Gobierno.

Sin embargo, ha reaccionado rápidamente y, con este lanzamiento de un teléfono con sistema DVB-T incorporado, se sitúa como la primera marca que pone en el mercado un tele-teléfono operativo.

La sintonía se realiza a través de una fina antena, que se extiende y se enciende con un botón específico (TV). Uno de los pulsadores superiores está destinado a la lista o menú de canales y con el navegador se puede hacer zapping. Por lo demás, sólo hay que disfrutar de una calidad de imagen excepcional aunque en ocasiones da algún salto; eso sí, no más que en la TDT residencial.

Pode ser a tecnologia. O dólar barato. Ou ambos. O fato é que me surpreendi ao saber que este novo monitor widescreen de 22 polegadas da LG chega ao mercado custando 1.069 reais (preço sugerido).

O espanto não é gratuito. Há 3 anos, paguei 1.700 reais por um monitor de 17 polegadas. Era uma época em que tempo de atualização de tela de 8 milissegundos era "top".

Pois bem, o W2284F da LG promete atualizar a tela em 2 milissegundos. Sem falar na razão de contraste, de 30.000:1.

Para quem não sabe, a razão de contraste indica a diferença entre a cor mais clara e a mais escura produzida pela tela. Quanto maior esse intervalo, maior será a chance de que a cor preta será mostrada como preta e a branca como branca, e não como algum tom de cinza.

O recorde parece ser ainda da Sharp, que em 2005 anunciou seu monitor ASV Premium, com contraste de 1.000.000:1 - um espectro de cores para ninguém botar defeito.

Para completar, o W2284F tem conexões VGA e DVI - padrão para os dias de hoje - e resolução de 1.680 x 1.050 pontos, que equivale, na prática, à resolução "full HD" da TV digital, que é de 1.080 linhas.

Helsinki - Seperti apa wujud ponsel masa depan? Produsen ponsel terbesar di dunia, Nokia, rupanya sedang serius bekerja memprediksi bentuk ponsel masa depan yang sesuai untuk memenuhi kebutuhan pelanggan.

Memang Nokia tak boleh ongkang-ongkang kaki seiring persaingan yang ketat di pasaran ponsel, misalnya melawan Samsung atau Apple. Di tahun 2007, Nokia mengklaim menggelontorkan dana USD 8,9 miliar untuk penelitian dan pengembangan di Nokia Research Centre.

"Saat ini kami sedang mencari wujud produk yang mungkin bakal relevan bagi Nokia untuk tahun 2015," demikian kata Leo Kaerkkaeinen, Chief Visionary di Nokia Research Centre.

Dia memang tidak mengungkapkan secara detail proyek apa saja yang sedang dikerjakan Nokia. Namun pada prinsipnya, Nokia menganggap segala sesuatu adalah mungkin untuk dikembangkan.

"Bahkan mungkin suatu saat, ponsel masa depan bisa tumbuh seperti tanaman di pot atau mungkin saja Anda bisa mencetaknya langsung dari mesin printer," demikian tambahnya dengan nada setengah bercanda.

Salah satu pengembangan mutakhir dari pusat riset Nokia adalah Nokia Sport Tracker yang memakai sensor satelit untuk merekam aktivitas olah raga dan datanya bisa di-share secara online. Saat ini, software sport tracker diklaim telah diunduh jutaan kali.

Nokia mengklaim bahwa mereka memang mengembangkan teknologi ponsel masa depan secara serius. Belum lama ini misalnya, Nokia juga merilis konsep ponsel Morph. Konsep ponsel masa depan ini bisa berubah bentuk secara fleksibel.

All three of these pictures were taken with my cell phone and sent to my Flickr page. I still had 140 characters left for any caption for my picture, so the amount of space is still the same, but a picture is worth a thousand words.

I'll admit I've never had an account with Twitter and I've had my Flickr account for over 2 years now, so maybe I'm jumping the gun a little bit, but I think that since I'm able to update my Flickr page just as simple as a twitter page, it almost makes it obsolete. I know that thousands of people love twitter, and I'm sure that it's going to grow in popularity, but obviously the next step would be pictures because every cell phone has a camera now, and then it will just turn into a scaled down version of Flickr.

No scientific evidence was used while compiling this list, this is just one man's opinion that came to his mind while he was getting a slurpee at 7-11 and looked up and saw a silly sign. Also, no animals were hurt during this study, except for maybe a few flying insects that hit my windshield while I was driving to 7-11 and the Library.

I listened to Indie 103.1, and they played Pearl Jam, MGMT, and Santogold. They also played this horrible song that probably will be popular in about a month and everyone's gonna love it, but I'll hate it still.

Today LG Electronics announced an increase in sales for the second quarter of 38.6% YoY mainly due to the great performances on mobile phones and flat screens.

LG sold 27.7 million handsets during the second quarter vs 24.4 million units during the first quarter of 2008. On a year to year basis, LG mobile phone sales have increased by 22% !

By the end of the year LG will probably sell 100 million handsets and reach a global market share of 9% vs 80.5 million units and 7.2% of global market share in 2007.

LG is now the number four mobile phone maker in the world and might even climb on the podium in the next months.
