Let's talk about something incredibly seductive for a moment here.

Such a contradiction in terms because, honestly, I find smoking to be disgusting. But I've got to admit that there's times when the sight of a beautiful woman taking a drag off of a cigarette is just one of those powerful images that knocks me on my ass. Is it an oral thing? Am I subconsciously substituting a penis between her lips instead of that long thin cancer stick? I don't know. I doubt it, but I don't know.

Something about not just a woman smoking but anyone smoking, especially when they're alone, just says power. It speaks of a small rebellion, even if it's an inconsequential one. A solitary withdrawal and a strength inside. With no words at all, a long drag can say a deep, quiet fuck you from either the loner or the playful trickster.

With the exception of Mr. Live Fast, Die Young, you'll notice that the pictures I've used here are the classic image of a woman with a cigarette. Just holding it. One arm tucked around themselves, the other dangling the cigarette nonchalantly. Not taking a drag from it. What does that imply? What is the hidden symbolism there? What is that memetic idea that keeps us drawing from that well?

No idea, and again, I don't want to tear it apart. I'm not sure I want to find it's hidden meaning. I think I just want to enjoy it and be drawn into it's sway.

My first video for you today is titled "Smoking Doggy Stylie," and it's one of the hottest you'll ever see. It simply is just a woman laying over a bed, smoking, talking about smoking, and a man behind her, fucking her doggystyle and asking her about her smoking. You never see the man's face, and you don't need to. He'd only ruin it because the bewitching young woman absolutely commands your attention for roughly 13 minutes of your life that you'll gladly sacrifice to her. Hers is dark magic that inveigles you masterfully as she's bent over her altar performing her rituals. Click on that link only if you want to be captivated.

The next video, entitled "Nice smoking hand job" is far less enticing, but quite possibly could've been in it's original form. Somebody took another video, cut it down to a less than a minute clip, put a Tweet song about smoking over it and completely drained it of it's magic. The woman is in full swing ice blonde femme fatale mode, almost as much as the dark haired beauty in our first clip. I think the most fascinating aspect of this clip, the thing that makes me desperately want to see it's original iteration is complete disinterest she seems to hold for the man's cock that she's jerking off. Like I said, something about the cigarette, if smoked right, isolates you majestically. It puts you in a place that others are desperate to get to, even if it is completely damaging.

Now, that's not to say that, like everything, smoking can't be done wrong, because oh  yes, it can:

His mother smoked when she was pregnant with both him and his sister, he emphatically stated. And besides, "when I die," he told me, "I want to be sick, not healthy." I probably should've respected his fierce independence and his quite frankly American right to be that spectacularly stupid. But I won't bullshit you: I didn't then and I don't know. "You're probably going to get your wish in the next few years," I told him.

All I'm saying is: Ladies, I hope you don't smoke. Healthy is a good look, even if smoking is so undeniably sexy at times.

After a few set backs, the final location for America's first TopShop has been chosen. UK's beloved cheap and chic store will making its stateside debut on Thursday, November 1st on 478 Broadway Street in the center of SoHo. TopShop will taking the place of edgy skate shop Yellow Rat Bastard and by so doing bringing the wonders of UK's cult favorite to the U.S. The store opening will bring the coveted lines of Kate Moss and TopShop's Unique to the adoring masses in NYC. No longer will we be plagued by shipping and handling fees, and by we I don't mean us over here on the West Coast. At least the fee won't be the usual $20 that London shops entail! Hurray for the silver lining!

British Sculptor Marc Quinn recently unveiled his sculpture titled "Siren" as part of the "Statuephilia" show at held at this British Museum. This 18 karat solid gold statue cost 3 Million Dollars to produce and is estimated to sell for approximately 20 Million dollars!

            I was engrossed by the first episode of British Style Genius – beginning with its in-depth appreciation of TopShop and also the phenomenon of its Kate Moss collection. I personally am not a fan; ok “she” has churned out a few nice dresses but other than that I feel a lot of it has been statement pieces which would be hard to work with much else. TopShop HAS been a great catalyst for the forefront of high street fashion, but I am never desperate to make a trip there 1) because it is near the top of the high street budget range 2) everyone knows that is from TopShop. I am however, never one to deny their genius shoessss.

            I was surprised to see Anna Wintour giving an interview; the only time I have seen her is at the side of a runway with her ‘hater blockers’ (sunglasses) on.

It was interesting to see Jonathon Saunders discussing his line with Topshop; he commented on the compromise between affordability and appeal of the clothing versus his designing identity and “what he is all about”.

When are Cheryl Cole and the rest of Girls Aloud going to come out with a line? *cough* PRIMARK

How insane is this Ossie Clark print? Grey, periwinkle and gold… could I think of a better combination?

Of course it had to discuss the term of the season; ‘Fast Fashion’ and the dilemma that is caused by the extreme cheapness of clothes vs the repercussions on the unfairly waged makers of these clothes. “Apparently” consumers will soon listen to their conscience. I DON’T THINK SO. Fashion makes me (people) feel good and they like to be able to do so and also be able to afford the odd (10) vodka and diet cokes at the end of the day. Cheap, fashionable fashion will always be in demand. PERIOD.

The programme closed with Philip Greene’s optimism for TopShop’s leap across the pond to New York. Walking past the Soho store the other day, it is nowhere near its ‘Fall 2008’ opening. So fortunately/unfortunately I will be back on English soil the next time I step into a TopShop store.

While Kate Moss may not have had a weight-conscious psychological disorder, she may still have been anorexic. Anorexia is a medical term for loss of appetite, no matter the underlying cause. And its generally not any less healthy if its brought on by stress, drugs or religious motivation.

As a skinny guy in the fattest country in the world (America does appear to be taking measures to regain its crown), I have to live with the occasional anorexia joke.

Now, I'm like Kate Moss*, in that I'd avidly deny being an "anorexic", in that I certainly don't try to lose weight because I think I look fat. But that doesn't mean I can ignore the issue.

Getting sick can cause loss of appetite, and this can be a worry when you are skinny. In Japan I twice fell below my desirable BMI thanks to food sickness, and later influenza B. This really isn't good, because this is a time when energy stores actually come in handy.

Another risk factor, along with stress, is depression. This is a pretty big thing. Sufferers of anorexia nervosa might get over their psychological issues, but still remain depressed - for one they might realise they are no longer fat, but also not really feel pretty with the skeletal giraffe look - as "not eating" is a familiar coping mechanism, they just fall back into the previous viscious cycle with new reasoning.

Just before I moved to Brisbane two months ago, I had let my weight dwindle down to 59 kg. This was a combination of being depressed, catassing, stress and slowly running out money to buy food. It was also put my BMI down at best 19 - healthy range is above 20 - so I was not impressed, I'd managed keep in a healthy weight range since returning from Japan. Now I'm back up to a relatively healthy 64 kg (BMI = 21). Hooray! I solved most of the problems that had been causing distractions to healthy eating, so hopefully we can keep that weight gain trend going and then work on actually building that into mussels.

Is Kate Moss going to design a new eco clothing range?

Well I really think she should...she is such a trendsetter in the UK and beyond. Whatever Kate wears, we all wear. We all want to look like Kate.

Well what could be more perfect then than Kate leading by example and wearing some up and coming eco designer labels? Or even better, creating a collection herself with Topshop or the like based on eco principles? She already endorses vintage clothing  and so is halfway there in terms of influencing people.

Kate, if your listening...if anyone can do it, you can!

An uphill climb from the beginning being one of the shortest super-models at 5' 6 1/2", a Verne Troyer in the industry by most standards. She went on to headline pretty much every major runway show, endorsement and major high-fashion spreads with coke lines and drunk binges in between. She has since recanted and recouped and now not even her age (34) can stop her as she continues to snatch up some of the most lucrative deals in the industry, including this one.

British artist Marc Quinn took the Kate wagon and threw some bling on it sculpting her life size in solid gold and titled it "Siren". Yes solid fricking gold. Valued at $2.7 million and going on public display for the first time at the British Museum in London. Touted as the largest solid gold sculpture in the world since ancient Egypt he also has other renditions in Marble. When it comes to large scale provocative installation art the Brits do it pretty well.

Coke? Who needs it. Kate Moss has dug up an old school- and somewhat healthier- addiction to clothing. The waifish model was chosen to deliver a new line of clothing for big box store Top Shop. The store will be opening it's first stateside shop in NYC this Fall. But back to the clothing.
