Here’s a Faye Wong (王菲) album that I’ve never seen in real time or for sale online:

Here's a Faye Wong (王菲) album that I've never seen in real time or for sale online: Fayenatics - The Album. I discovered it on Josh Cheung's website. Josh's Fayevourite Faye Wong Page is not very active as far as current info goes, but it is still the single most valuable historical resource for English speakers. This CD of rare songs is not an official Faye or studio release. Instead, it was created and produced by the Faye Wong Fayenatics mailing list in 1998. This amazing project was coordinated by Mey Ngo. The front and back covers are pictured below; the third and largest photo below is the back cover of the booklet that accompanied the CD. Here's a description from the site: "A special double CD album featuring rare Faye songs (from live performances, early songs from when she was a teenager, etc.) on one CD and fellow Faye fans singing Faye songs on the second CD. The purpose of this non-profit CD set was to dedicate it to Faye and for Faye fans to hear some rare songs and other fans singing. Note, this CD is sold out and out of print."

Reviewing the track list from today's perspective, a decade later, the selections seem a bit limited. However, from a historical perspective, this album is absolutely invaluable. This project gives us a tangible sense of the strength of Faye's fanbase. I'm not sure if there's another entertainer in the world with fans who would go to these lengths to support their idol.

Tracks from the first CD featuring Faye singing rare songs:

1. Meet In 1998 (duet with Na Ying)
2. Endless Romance, A Story Of A Small Town

Man, it’s been a busy couple of days! I wasn’t even able to get on the computer at all y

Man, it's been a busy couple of days! I wasn't even able to get on the computer at all yesterday... So I am *really* behind on my blog hopping. I hope I can get caught up today. We shall see.

This morning I got all the pictures that I have taken the last couple days uploaded to Flickr, so I went back and added pictures to Thursday's post, and also a link to that set of pictures in Flickr... For those who are interested in pictures. I wish I would have gotten that done on Thursday, but I had been just too tired to bother. *lol*

Also, on Thursday morning I had an impromtu photo shoot with Alicia, and got some REALLY cute photos of her. I posted them on Flickr, but they got lost behind the parade and firework pictures... So, if you have the time to look for them, they are worth it, as she looks beyond adorable! (Edit: the pictures of Alicia are currently on page 10 and page 11... At least until I add some more pictures.)

Anyway, hope everyone had a great Independece Day (for those of you who live in the States that is *lol* ... for those of you who don't, hope your day was awesome too).

We were up early, as we needed to leave the house at 8 am. The parade started at 9:30, and we wanted to make sure we found a parking spot, and places to put up our chairs... People come from all over, and it fills up FAST. We went to McDonald's drive through on the way and got some egd mcmuffins, and then ate while we waited for the parade to start.

The parade itself was 2 hours long, and it was probably one of my favorites... Though I do miss the marching bands from local schools. There used to always be 2-3 different marching bands in the parade, and for the last couple years, there hasn't been any. I am wondering if it's because of budget cuts... Maybe the schools don't have marching bands anymore. *shrugs* ... Anyway, there were lots of fun stuff, and music. It was a nice parade. :D

We normally go to the carnival after the parade, but this year Joe decided that he didn't want to spend the money. :( ... I must admit, the kids and I were very disappointed. But, such is life... Anyway, since we were more toward the beginning of the parade, and since it was still going on and a lot of the streets were still closed, we had a heck of a time trying to get home! It took FOREVER!

But... We finally did make it there... Joe's parents and Joe's sister (and her family) came over too, and we had a BBQ in our yard. We didn't do anything more than sit and chat, though we all took a walk up to the trailer, to see if the mouse was still getting in. We spent a few hours just chatting in the yard, and eating. *lol*

When it got close to 9 pm, we headed into town to the Nazarene Church. They have a big field that is close to the Molalla Buckeroo, and they let people park there to watch the fireworks. (We have never done this before, because Joe always has to work early the next day). All the church asks is for donations (that go to their children's program). They also had a snack bar set up, but we didn't know this, so we didn't have any more cash on us, other than the few bucks we gave to them for the donation. (If we had known about the donation, we would have brought more money to give them too.) Then we settled in to wait for the fireworks... The Molalla Buckeroo sets off the fireworks after the rodeo gets over (the rodeo starts at 8 pm), so it was 10:40 before the fireworks even started... Then they were over in just over 15 minutes! :rolls: I had just settled comfortably, and boom, they were over (pun intended ;) )

They were awesome while they lasted though... And LOUD. *lol* Everytime another one went off, someone's car alarm would go off. *lol* Jared said that the car was afraid of the fireworks. *lol*

Joe and I are hoping to take IT ALL in next year. We figure that if we can tuck aside 1 dollar a day for the next year, we can have enough money to do the parade, carnival, the Buckeroo, and the fireworks. *hoping, hoping, hoping* ... We really want to go see the Molalla Buckeroo, at least once.

It's hard to devote time on weekends to spend with various people; already this week I have crammed BAY, Josh's 21st at Tai's place, church and Khim's 21st into the short span of two extremely hectic days. And it's just slightly ironic that I while my time away during weekdays watching movies online (arrrrrrr, pirate!), going prawning (which is really very fun) and planning to pack my room. Why can't everyone else be slackers and not work like me?

As it is weekends are like a mad flurry of "Sorry, I have to be in church!" and "Ok! I'll try to make it down for _______!", and all this while planning programs for BAY and so on. Don't get me wrong, I love being in church and hanging out with church people, but I really wish I had more time to spend with everyone else.

Tonight's mixture of Guitar Hero III, Wii Fit, steamboat and an extremely hazardous truffle cake was really great and I miss hanging out with my classmates so muchhhhhhh.. Even Blackie. Hahahaha.

Tomorrow night I look forward to even more crazy fun with the bunch of people whom I have known since I was a center-parting, nostril-flaring, leg-breaking Sec 1 girl. I miss them alot too, even though they're absolutely nuts.

As Khim would say, "Don't say no more."

So... Today Jared tells me about another neighborhood boy. I haven't met this boy, and don't even know his name, but I get the feeling that none of the kids care for him much.

Which. Is. A. Very. Good. Thing.

Jared tells me that he likes to show off, and that he is very irritating. He also told me something that disturbed me very much.

This kid (who is 8) was playing with a bunch of the kids in the wooded area behind our house, and he STRIPPED. As in BUCK NAKED.

Thankfully, Jared says that Alicia and Amanda weren't with them at the time. *shew* (Jared says that there were girls there, just not our girls) ... But I also told him that they ARE NOT allowed to play with this kid, and that if something like that happens again, they are to COME INSIDE immediately.

*sigh* ... Where do all the good kids live?

Josh, Amanda, and I all had dentist appointments today. I had to have a couple fillings done, and they had their teeth cleaned. Funny thing is, the hygenist was done early, so they got Alicia in too, even though she didn't have an appointment.

Both the girls got a good report. No cavities for either of them. Josh, on the other hand, had two small ones. :( ... Funny thing is, out of all the kids, Josh does the best job at brushing and flossing. He takes the most time brushing, and will sit and floss while he watches his bedtime movie. Here's hoping he didn't get Mama's weak teeth. *sigh*

As for me, I must have the most stubborn jaw around. They had to give me THREE shots of novicane before I got numb enough to work on, and I still wasn't 100% numb. It was kind of embarrassing, because I was their last patient of the day, and then they got their long weekend... And here I was, holding them up. *sigh* ... And now my jaw aches where all the shots went in. I took some Advil, but it didn't help.

Poor Joe though... When the dentist went in to check Alicia's teeth, she proceeded to tell him that Daddy has green teeth. ... Dr. Barichello found that quite funny.

After our appointments, we headed to Joe's parents' house. We had a potluck dinner and then we set off fireworks... Usually our BIL, Bob, sets them off, but Bob and DeeDee didn't make it this time. So Joe's niece's boyfriend did them...

What bothered me is that he had gone into Washington and smuggled back some illegal fireworks and set those off as well... And while I hate to be a party pooper, it just totally ruined the evening for me. Why? Because for one, they are ILLEGAL... And a retired cop lives up the road from them. Plus, it's not a large area, and they were going off above our heads. Someone could have gotten hurt... Every year someone's house burns down, because people buy illegal fireworks up in Washington. *sigh*

Well, it's late and I'm HUNGRY. (I didn't eat much at dinner, because my jaw was so sore)... So I'll catch ya'll tomorrow night sometime. (It's going to be a long, busy day tomorrow)

This is a personal story, not expert financial advice. Please do your own due diligence.

A few weeks before I got married in '99, my wife and I came to Ariel to look for a rental. It was pre-war and hi-tech was ramping up, the college was gaining momentum and the massive building projects next to the college were being completed. The real estate market was heating up. We drove around looking for rental ads or signs on balconies, nada. We were relegated to the agents.

We went to three agents and saw some potential places but mostly 'old' places or different sizes, nothing that grabbed us. I'll give credit to the secretary at Eli Arbiv, after we came back to the office, disappointed about not finding something 'nice', she gave us advice that is once again relevant today, "what you see today is not going to be on the market tomorrow. You do not have a few days to think about your options. See something decent and suitable, take it. Start negotiating with the owner and maybe you can get some touch-ups."

We went to the next agent, saw three apartments and chose one with a nice (sorry, awesome) view, a 2 metre kitchen counter, no balcony, and overlooking a strip mall with restaurants open really late, a parking lot which was active 24/7 and lived there for about seven years.

The market in Ariel, in fact all over central Israel right now, is one of a major housing shortage. During the mini-recession in 2002-2006, many builders went out of business or reduced building starts. The financial papers talked about the supply of apartments running out in a few years and here we are; the amount of new apartments does not match the demand. And rising prices have speculators in the market as well buying 'investments'. Some areas in Jerusalem, Ashdod, for instance, are suffering from heavy buying by foreigners who in trying to do a mitzvah of owning land in Israel, are a) raising the prices for us Israelis, and b) not living in the apartments year round and not renting out either consequently driving the shortage to epidemic proportions.

The time is not one to be picky and certainly not one of looking at some decent homes and sitting on it for a couple of weeks or even a day or two. You never know when a 'better' home will get put on the market, but that dilemma can drive anyone crazy, and that's why it's good to have faith in God to send you the most suitable options to choose from.

This is advice for many places in Israel now, not only Ariel. The new market valuations in shekels has also wreaked havoc with the market, so try to get immediate advice from others who might have an idea of value comparison.

Of course, no one can be assured of anything. One might find a nice place, but have crappy neighbours and vice-versa (preferred, IMO). One might feel like they're really compromising, but end up with a nice landlord who agrees to make improvements and does not pester.

If you know you want to live in a certain place, whether Ariel or not, it's not a buyers market right now.

The preceeding is also more geared towards renting, though relevant towards buying real estate as well. I could not tell you if the continued boom will last, and certainly if, or when Israel's economy will hit the downturn and prices will drop.

Co stars from Reality TV show The Industry, show up for show car drive from Wynn Hotel as a Show Tea

Co stars from Reality TV show The Industry, show up for show car drive from Wynn Hotel as a Show Team for a "leg" to Spring Mountain Raceway on BullRun

Josh, the star of the upcoming reality series says he wants a Bugatti (even though he's 14!) and has a love for cars, so he has begun master-minding gettin his hands on one, maybe this is why they hunted down The Bullrun, having such an interest in cars... maybe he wanted to do a little shopping around? See which ones can hold the stamina. They were invited by their friend Dallas over at Destination X TV who rounded up a VO6 Black Vette for the brief ride...

They start at the Wynn Hotel on the Vegas strip heading towards one of the baddest race tracks around, Spring Mountain. Since JB is the only one that can drive, is it likely that Josh will take the keys and race on over there himself?? Possibly be one of the first 14 year olds to get a speeding ticket in a Rally?

The Bullrun motor-sports event covers 3000 miles this year, Josh and JB drove from the Wynn Hotel in the wee hours of the morning through to Spring Mountain (about an hours drive). But this is after brushing up on their racing skills earlier on in the week at Spring Mountain, luckily the boys made it their alive and without law injuries... and actually made good time!! The youngest team on the Rally earned respect.

Josh, the 14 year old star says he would join the BullRun but he does not have a license yet. I don't know what he is worried about, after all, many BullRun drivers end up with speeding tickets that cost them their license, so Josh is already off to a good start...

But now that their hooked, its gonna be hard for them not to want to rally in the Bullrun every year. Will Josh and JB be the first to bring a Bugatti? Hopefully they wont total it!!

I got e-mails from my boys today and I thought I'd share them (with their permission) just because they are so cute and I miss them!

From Gabe:

Dear Mom,

Grandpa just wanted me to tell you that I'm still alive here in Mexico. It's really hot down here, even at night. Nights are really stormy. How could there be rain, thunder, lightning, and heat all at the same time?

From Gabe

And here is his reply to my e-mail asking if he was having fun.

Yes I am having some fun. Josh couldn't find his goggles so he used mine. When I asked for them he said that he needed them cause he was swimming in the ocean but I wanted some goggles to use so Grandpa went out and got me a new pair. They worked very well in the ocean and Jimmy was able to use them to find his goggles which he accidently dropped into the ocean. They only cost about 150 pesos. We also got to see downtown Puerto Vallarta and me and Josh got some sunglasses there and Grandpa took a few pictures. We had this really good breakfast at the hotel restaurant. Jimmy also went fishing. Other than that we didn't really do anything.

And from Josh:

Dear Mommy,

I arrived in mexico at about 1:00 in the afternoon yesterday (the 27th) and took a taxi to this big hotel right on the beach in puerto vallarta and was fishing with Jimmy by hand with a line and a hook and we didn`t catch very much fish and in the hotel we were on the 1st of 15 floors and everything else is fun and we walked around town today after breakfat and stuff for a while and everything else was fun and there was a swimming pool.

Love, Josh

I sure love those boys!!

Jared wanted to arm wrestle with me today, because he was sure that he was stronger... He was sure surprised when he couldn't win that match! *rofl*

I wasn't feeling well (thanks to AF), so I laid down on the couch to watch an episode of Dr. Quinn... Soon both my girls were snuggled up with me to watch the show.

Listening to Alicia's infectious giggles, as I searched for her belly button to give it a poke. (Those kids are very good at hiding their belly buttons! ;) )

Josh's reaction when I tricked him, so that I could poke HIS belly button!

Joe brought me home enchiladas from San Blas for dinner today!

I got 4 months of old posts moved over to this blog, and now I only have 4 more months of posts to go, and then I am DONE!

P.S. I posted quite a few of Alicia's drawings on her blog, if you are interested in seeing them. :D

Legend of the Seven Bloody Torturers is having its international premiere screening in the Fantasti

Legend of the Seven Bloody Torturers is having its international premiere screening in the Fantastic Short Film section of The 12th Puchon International Festival of Fantastic Film. The festival runs from July 18-27 in Bucheon, South Korea, apparently home of both the Puchon Robo Park and the Korean Comics Museum!

Into this mecca of grooviness will enter two other Canadian shorts: The Laundromat directed by David Jacombs, summarized thusly in the program: "A young woman, driven to the limits of sanity, finds refuge in an empty laundromat as the city is overrun by ravenous creatures." Nothing quite so rundown and seedy as an empty laundromat, ravenous creatures or no - and it's a world premiere to boot. Also screening is Rodrigo Gudino's The Facts in the Case of Mister Hollow. This new short from the Rue Morgue founder and director of The Demonology of Desire and The Eyes of Edward James features Julian Richings of The Tracey Fragments, Cube, and Wrong Turn and looks pretty impressive from a visual standpoint.
