- Weer een duet: Coldplay met Kylie Minogue. Het komt op de EP die Coldplay deze december uitbrengt.

- Op 12 september komt er een remix-cd van The Cure uit. Nee, hoge verwachtingen heb ik er niet van, aangezien de remixen gedaan zijn door 30 Seconds To Mars, My Chemical Romance, AFI en Fall Out Boy. Hopelijk weet 65 Days of Static de eer te redden.

Lider Queens of the Stone Age, który na koncertach wycina na tyle skomplikowane kawałki, że musi zupełnie olewać widownię; świetny gitarzysta, który pojawiał się na sesjach UNKLE i paru innych dziwaków. Josh Homme,  líder do grupo norte-americano Queens of the Stone Age, anunciou que produzirá material para o terceiro álbum da banda britânica Arctic Monkeys, as gravações vão rolar no deserto californiano, a fim de captar uma atmosfera sonora diferente para o material novo, fora isso, Homme também disse que curte o trabalho do Arctic Monkeys e disse não ver a hora de começar a trabalhar com o grupo. Claro que no meio dessa rasgação de seda, a rapaziada do A.M. também afirmou que são fãs do Q.O.T.S.A.

É isso então, o negócio é ver no que vai dar, mas já da para vislumbrar algo meio louco dessa mistura, imagina só, o som pesado do Queens of the Stone Age, somado ao estilo do Arctic Monkeys e além do mais gravado em pleno deserto... quero ouvir!!!

NME reports that Arctic Monkeys (above) will be recording with Josh Homme and QOTSA in Johua Tree, California to get away from their surroundings and get a new perspective while creating new material.

But the material isn't necessary a new album. So says Josh Homme:

"I think we're just going to start by doing a couple of tracks. No pressure. The goal is to make something that they dig so much that everyone else can too."

It sounds exciting, but as an AM fan, I hope it doesn't take away from their distinct style of power rock. I mean, I hope they don't come out sounding like a 1987 U2. There was only one "Joshua Tree."

This is the kind of album I love. I love it so much, in fact, that I had to put it on just because I was thinking how awesomely it kicks ass. I have this thing for records that have a mix-tape feel. Check Your Head is one, there's a record by Gerling that's a good example which I will get around to writing about soon, and R is definitely one of those records. It has a vibe to it, but it plays with different genres and tempos. Three lead singers on R: Homme, Olivero, and Lanegan. Fucking Lanegan! "Ain't gonna worry/Just live 'til you die..." he suggests in his gravelly, fucked-up croak. "I wanna drown..."

QOTSA are best pegged as "alt-metal" in the same vein as Alice In Chains, a metal band that isn't afraid to, well, not play metal. R is probably the most psychedelic QOTSA record, which is why I love it so much. There's spacey numbers ("Auto-Pilot", "Better Living Through Chemistry"), rockerz ("Feel Good Hit of the Summer", "The Lost Art of Keeping A Secret"), weird obtuse stabs at pop ("Monsters In The Parasol", "Leg of Lamb"), and punkiness ("Quick and To The Pointless"). Homme's oddly affecting high voice compliments the pop stuff and weirdens the metal stuff, the playing is hawt, and the vibe wobbles between mentally ill and self-medicating. This record fucking has it all! Their intial creative core still intact, this is the Queens' finest hour.

(This was my favorite record of 2000. It's also my favorite QOTSA album cover. While QOTSA make consistently great music, their album covers and videos generally suck vomit. They got this one right.)

Então, para mostrar um pouco como fica um rockstar após o show, o fotógrafo suíço Matthias Willi resolveu ir pros bastidores e fazer estes registros e publicar no site After The Show. A maioria das fotos é "montada", mas mesmo assim são bem legais. Abaixo, três destas imagens:

O álbum também vai contar com a participação de Josh Homme, do Queens of the Stone Age, na canção "Necro Hex Blues", e da lendária cantora folk britânica Linda Thompson, em "Over and Over".

"Beautiful Future" é lançado 17 anos depois que a banda estourou com seu terceiro álbum, "Screamadelica". A produção do novo disco fica a cargo de Björn Yttling (Peter, Bjorn & John) e de Paul Epworth, que já trabalhou com Bloc Party e The Futureheads. De acordo com a própria banda, "Beautiful Future" aposta no soul, no eletro, em riffs de rock e no britpop - tudo com o "toque especial do Scream".

O primeiro single do novo álbum, "Can't Go Back", foi lançado no dia 4 de julho e já teve um clipe (meio esquisito e um tanto misógino, como classificaram alguns críticos) divulgado. Você pode ouvir a música no site oficial da banda e assistir ao vídeo aqui.

No site do Primal Scream também está disponível para download gratuito a faixa extra "Urban Guerrilla". A canção é um cover da banda britânica Hawkwind e não estará em "Beautiful People".

Un concierto para pasar el domingo. Esta vez, uno de Queens of the Stone Age en 2002. En la gira americana que hicieron teniendo como componentes a Dave Grohl a la batería y con Mark Lanegan como vocalista en algunas canciones. Ambos, junto con Josh Homme y Nick Olivieri grabaron Songs for the Deaf [Interescope, 2002] y luego durante junio y julio presentaron las canciones en un tour por Estados Unidos. Lo cierto es que el disco no fue editado hasta agosto.

Para mi gusto, éste disco ha sido el punto más algido en la carrera de las reinas. Me parece magnífico, estuve bastante tiempo enganchado a él y esta semana lo he recuperado, lo que me ha dado pie a coger este concierto y subirlo en dos partes para vuestro disfrute, espero. Lástima que la química entre Hommy y Olivieri se rompió en la gira europea de presentación, tras la excesiva juerga posterior al concierto en Madrid. Concierto que, por otra parte, se vio interrumpido en varias ocasiones por cortes de luz.

Saw the ice series at the NGV Australia on the weekend. I really like them, but it reminded me a lot of this at the same time...

The reason why I was interested in that is probably because homophobia is a topic that concerns myself. So I read the first parts and got even more interested into the story (I know, it's coming, I'm building up to it!). It all goes back to this incident (the important stuff starts at 3:26 min):

Am I a homophobe because I included a slang for gay in with other "acceptable" curse words during a verbal lashing I gave a young concertgoer, after being hit by his shoe, during a show the other day? For years now I've known gay is not a choice; one's skin color doesn't determine one's intelligence level; & red hair doesn't mean you're someone's stepchild. I guess this list is fairly solid in what it has on it. But the order is so screwed, in my opinion, up that I don't even know where to begin. My biggest concern is that I definitely don't feel like Purple Rain is the best album of the last 25 years. Plus, I don't like American Idiot being on there, at least not at number 6 anyway. And who decided that OK Computer was so much worse than In Rainbows? Furthermore, I don't know much about Metallica, but I'm pretty sure that Metallica wasn't there best album. Why is Spoon's Ga Ga Ga Ga on the list but not Gimme Fiction? Is My Bloody Valentine's Loveless really less influential or worse than Sheryl Crow? And does MTV Unplugged in New York even count as a NIRVANA album? Well, I guess it won a grammy, but still.

In trying to include genres from all across the board, their list has been left with some serious holes. Besides, when are these magazines going to learn that making X NUMBER OF GREATEST SOMETHING OF SOME PERIOD OF TIME lists is a waste of time because they either fail miserably, or spend so much time on it and make it so all-inclusive that it ends up being overly-pretentious? I dunno. Kudos for trying, I guess. There were a few albums I was (pleasantly) surprised to see on there, I guess. Like Surfer Rosa and Turn on the Bright Lights.

Here's an idea, comment with what you think are some of the best albums of the last 25 years.
