ERE is a verse which speaks about freedom. But what is this freedom and who is made free?

     Is this a freedom that everyone needs? Surely freedom is needed by those in bondage?

     "Why", you may ask, "do I need to be freed? Aren't I free already?"

     Well, in this chapter I intend to look at this freedom under five headings:

     1. Freedom from what?

     2. Who brings this freedom?

     3. How was this freedom brought about?

     4. What is the nature of this freedom?

     and finally,

     5. How is this freedom received?

1. Freedom from what?

     This verse will mean little to you until you realise that outside of Christ you are in bondage. Absolute bondage.

     How? What kind of bondage?

     All men outside of Christ are in bondage to sin, bondage to the consequences of sin, bondage to death, bondage to the Law of God, and, though they may deny it, their own will is bound.

     Sin has such a power on men that they are utter slaves to it. Sin is that rebellion against God and His righteousness that so pervades our thoughts, desires and intentions that everything we do is affected by it. Nobody worships God as they should or lives their lives in the way God would have them live. In fact most people rarely even think about God, or care about living with regard to Him. And even if they do, even if they try to worship Him and live a righteous life, everything they do is affected by sin - because they are in bondage to it. It is in their very nature - a fallen nature.

     But you probably don't believe that do you? You probably think you are quite all right - and not in bondage at all, quite able to make your own mind up about what to do and what not to do. After all, you have freewill don't you?

     Do you? Free-will?

     Well, when God created mankind He created him with freewill. Adam, the first man that lived upon this earth, had it in the Garden of Eden. But when Adam used his freewill to disobey God he fell into sin and lost that freewill for ever.

     Yes, Adam fell, and entered into bondage. Sin entered in and is passed on to every one of Adam's descendants. And the inevitable consequence of sin - death - entered too. Man wasn't created to die - he was created to live unto God, but when sin entered the human race so did death.

     "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:"

Romans 5:12

     But what of freewill? Surely we can decide what to do each day, what to eat, where to go? And of course, one day, when you're older, you'll probably look into religion and decide what's best for you - but not now. You want to enjoy life now, live it to the full, enjoy your freedom while you can...

     But the truth is you're bound. That freedom, and that freewill has limits. You're like a prisoner tied to the wall of a cell by chains. Yes, that prisoner can stand up, sit down, move around, jog on the spot but no matter how hard he tries he can't get out of the cell because of the chains that hold him back. He has freewill to a degree but he will never be able to escape the cell no matter how much he wills it.

     So it is with you. You have a will but it is bound by sin. You can decide to do certain things but you can never truly worship God or live a righteous life because you are bound - bound by the chains of sin, death and the Law of God.

     Everything you do is affected by sin. And that sin brings with it a consequence - death. "It is appointed unto men once to die".

     No matter how much you choose to ignore it one day you will die. You can't escape it. Death affects everyone. It will come sooner than you think. And on the other side of death is the judgement. One day you will pass from this life into the next and have to give account before a Holy God for every sinful act you have committed in this life. And if you're found wanting, which you surely will be, then there awaits a just sentence for sin. An eternity of separation from God in that place known as Hell.

     "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:"

Matthew 25:41

     "But what of God's Law?" asks someone religious, "Surely God gave us the Ten Commandments to teach us how to live? If we live by those commandments won't God spare us from that punishment? Won't He show us love? Isn't there a freedom that comes by living by the Law?"

     The trouble is we are still in bondage to sin. Yes, God gave the Law containing the Ten Commandments and they teach us how holy and righteous He is. We should live by them, we should love God with all our heart, all our mind, all our will and love our neighbour as ourselves - but we can't. No matter how hard we try we always break the law and we find that rather than it being to our good it brings us into further bondage. It condemns us to the core:

     "For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

     For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me."

Romans 7:9-11

     All men are in bondage to the Law of God because of their sin. It tells us what to do but gives us no power to fulfil its demands. The harder you try to keep it the more into sin and condemnation you fall. You must keep it though, and if you don't you will find yourself under its curse.

     "For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them."

Galatians 3:10

     Yes, we are all bound by our sin, by death and by the law. So bound that our very wills are subject to sin. Mankind will not believe the truth of God, no matter how much of the truth he hears because he is in bondage, "sold under sin", and he needs to be freed!

2. Who brings this freedom?

     But praise God, there is an answer. There is deliverance from this bondage. Freedom from sin, from death and from the law and its curse.

     But who brings this freedom?

     The verse reads, "If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed".

     It is the Son who brings this freedom. What Son? The Son. The Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ.

     This is that only begotten Son of the Father who "being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God" Philippians 2:6. Jesus Christ is the Son of God, but is also equal with God. He is God. God is one in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost. And the Son is equal with God.

     But,

     "God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

     Because of His love for sinners and desire to see them free from the bondage they are in, God gave His Son. His Son?

     This is the Son of God who dwells in light inaccessible, who is equal with the Father, who is holy and righteous. This is that Son of whom John writes,

     "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

     The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

     And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."

John 1:1-5

     The Son of God, as God, created the heavens and the earth. All things were made by Him. He came into this dark, sinful world as a man to bring freedom to men, and yet this dark, sinful world "comprehended it not".

     God's Son came into this world by taking upon Himself human flesh. He was born of a virgin. The Holy Ghost came upon Mary and joined her seed to that of Christ's that He might take human flesh into perfect union with His divine being. But this flesh was without sin - spotless. Why did He do this? To deliver His people from their sins.

     "...thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."

Matthew 1:21.

     God's own Son came to bring freedom to His people. A wretched sinful people, bound by their sin, unable to ever worship God or serve Him as they should. An undeserving people. Sinners.

     But what does the Apostle Paul tell us of Christ?

     "...Christ Jesus, Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."

Philippians 2:5-8

     Christ humbled Himself as a man. He knew no sin. He never sinned. He was perfect. He lived a perfect life, completely fulfilling the law and all its demands. He was the perfect man, God as man who came into this world, a world which rejected Him, to bring freedom to His people.

     This is the Son of God of whom it is written,

     "GOD, who at sundry times, and in divers(e) manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?"

Hebrews 1:1-5

     This is the Son of God who brings freedom to His people. For "If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed" John 8:36

3. How was this freedom brought about?

     This freedom for sinners came at a price. A very great price. But that price was not paid by us. It was paid by God's only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, when He laid down His life on the cross.

     Yes, the Son frees His people, but not without a cost.

     We can't be freed from the bondage of sin except our sin be dealt with. The just penalty for sins that the law demands must be met. Sin must be done away with.

     We can't be freed from the consequence of sin - death - except death be conquered, and new life be given to sinners who are "dead in trespasses and sins".

     We can't be freed from the bondage of the law except its demands and its penalty be met in full, and a just deliverance be made.

     And we can't be freed from the bondage of our own sinful will, unless that sin is taken away and we are given clean hearts and new spirits, and are given a will that desires to worship God and serve God.

     All this was brought about by Christ at the cross. When the Son of God laid down His life for His people He wrought a complete deliverance and freedom.  Christ had complete faith in His Father that in laying down His life the Father would put upon Him all the sins of His people, and justly punish all their sins in Him. Every single one. Christ was "made sin" for us, and as He hung on the tree God poured out all His righteous judgement upon His own Son - all His hatred for sin. The Son drank that bitter cup of God's wrath right down to the very dregs. Every drop.

     He suffered. In a way that no one has ever suffered, and to a degree that no one can ever comprehend. Estranged from His father Christ died in the place of sinners, taking the punishment that they deserved in order to save them from their sins. To grant them eternal life - to free them from their bondage.

     Wicked men drove nails into the hands and feet of the Son of God. And when He was dead they pierced His side with a spear, and out came blood and water. This blood shed by Christ for His people is that blood that washes them from their sins. The blood through which they are forgiven of all their sins and the blood through which God's righteousness is imputed to them - held to their account. Their sins were laid upon Christ, and the righteousness of God was laid upon them.

     God's law demanded that a penalty be paid for sin. That the blood of a sacrifice must be shed. Christ, as the perfect Lamb of God, the perfect sacrifice for sin, shed His own blood - the righteous for the unrighteous.

     At the cross Christ paid the just penalty for sin - the law's demands were completely met. He died in the sinner's place that he might be freed from the bondage of sin.

     On the third day Christ arose from the tomb. He conquered death and the grave.

     "Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him."

Romans 6:9

     Christ delivered the sinner from the bondage of the law by fulfilling the law. All the law's demands were met in Christ and His sacrifice on the cross.

     And finally, in His death on the cross Christ took away sin, and through belief on Him and His sacrifice the sinner can know salvation from sin, and from death, and by the Holy Spirit receive a clean heart and a new spirit being born again of God, and therefore being given a new will to worship and serve God.

     All this was accomplished by Christ at the cross. Not merely to make it possible for sinners to be freed from bondage, but to actually free them - completely!

     Why did He do this? For no other reason than that He loved a people and desired to save them and in so doing glorify God.

     Are you a sinner? Do you see your need of freedom? Then you need to go to Christ and Him alone.

     "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out."

John 6:37

     Christ paid a price to free His people. But He brings that freedom to that people at no price to them!

     "Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price."

Isaiah 55:1

4. What is the nature of this freedom?

     "If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed".

     Our verse says, "ye shall be free indeed". That is quite a statement! If the Lord Jesus Christ makes you free then you aren't just free, you are free indeed!

     By His once and for all sacrifice on the cross Christ has freed all those who believe on Him from sin, from death, from the bondage of the law, and from the bondage of their will.

     Firstly, Christ frees sinners from the bondage of their sin. Sin is dealt with completely by Christ's sacrifice - the full penalty for sin has been met. (Of course, as every Christian knows, as long as they remain in this world they will still sin, but they are no longer in bondage to it, no longer under the dominion of sin - a new life is present within those that Christ has saved that causes them to live unto God: they are now freed from the power of sin!)

     "Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:" Romans 6:6-8

     "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."

Romans 6:14

     "Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness."

Romans 6:18

     Secondly, Christ frees sinners from the consequences of sin - from death and the wrath to come. Christ rose victorious over death and the grave, and brought in everlasting life for all who will believe on Him.

     "He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it."

Isaiah 25:8

     "I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes."

Hosea 13:14

     "O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

1 Corinthians 15:55-57

     "But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: Who delivered us from so great a death and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;"

2 Corinthians 1:9-10

     "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:" Colossians 1:13

     "And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come."

1 Thessalonians 1:10

     "For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death."

Romans 8:2

     Thirdly, Christ frees sinners from the bondage of the law, the curse of the law and the rule of the law.

     "For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

Galatians 2:19-20

     "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:"

Galatians 3:13

     The sinner saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ is no longer bound by the yoke of the law but is now married to Christ. He is now "yoked" to Christ:

     "For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

Matthew 11:30

     "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." Galatians 5:1

     And finally Christ frees sinners from the bondage of their sinful will. With his sins dealt with on the cross the child of God's will is no longer in bondage to sin. God creates in him a new heart and a new spirit.

     "Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me." Psalm 51:10

     "And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take away the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:"

Ezekiel 11:19

     "And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart."

Jeremiah 24:7

     "For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."

Philippians 2:13

     "Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power..."

Psalm 110:3

     If any man receives such a freedom he will never want to lose it - it will be precious to him. And God promises that all whom the Son frees will remain free.

     "For we hath not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but we have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father."

Romans 8:15

     "Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.

     Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."

Romans 8:33-34

5. How is this freedom received?

     So reader, here is freedom indeed. A freedom far more precious and far more needful than anything else. A freedom that is everlasting. A freedom that comes from the Son of God, the Lord Jesus Christ - there is no other way to obtain this freedom but through Him.

     This freedom is not earned, it is not merited, but it comes solely by Grace - the unmerited favour of God towards sinners - and is received by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Your own works will never save you nor merit God's favour because they are tainted by sin - you are bound. But God has shown grace to sinners through His Son - Jesus Christ!

     "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

John 8:32

     "I am the way, the truth and the life" said Jesus.

John 14:6

     Reader, if you know you are in your sins, still in bondage, then you need the Holy Spirit to lead you into the truth about Christ and the salvation that is in Him alone.

     But if you know something of the truth about Christ, who He is and what He did; If you have been shown the way to Him, and if you know Christ Himself, personally, and believe on Him, and you know that He died for you, for your sins, every one of them, washing them away in His blood; If the Holy Spirit has given you eyes to see your state and what Christ did, and ears to hear the truth about Him, and if God by His wonderful mercy and grace has granted you that spiritual gift of faith to believe on Christ and put your trust in Him alone, then He will be faithful to His promise. He will deliver you from bondage, from sin and from death and give you eternal life - and set you free.

     "But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Romans 6:22-23

     Or will you yet continue in your own way, rejecting the Saviour, content with the freedom you think you have in this present world? If so take heed - there is no freedom outside of Christ, only an eternity of suffering. But the wise will hear the word of truth and seek that freedom that comes from above:

     "If the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed".

     Free indeed! Praise God for His grace and mercy to sinners through Jesus Christ His Son.

Amen.

I was watching some video paying tribute to Sarah Palin when I noticed a video response that caught my attention. It was a parody of the selection of Palin by McCain. I must admit, the video was very funny. Some of the comments on it, though, were not. One person was ranting saying something along the lines of "This just goes to show the intellectual capacities of GOP voters." And then (s)he went on to say that Obama is not an elitist. Pardon me, but isn't questioning the intellect of another party's constituency deemed to be elitism? Duh. Okay, so maybe Obama isn't an elitist, but some (and I'm sure it's a very low percentage) of his "followers" most definitely are.

You know, I think that Obama would be upset by some of the things people are saying in his defense. The comments really don't help him as they are intended. The same goes for McCain; his supporters are just as eager to jump the gun.

I recommend going to YouTube and searching for Obama, Biden, McCain, and/or Palin. Who really cares what videos pop up? Just read the comments. It can make for some light entertainment... Unless you get caught up in it and start arguing for your candidate.

Just something to think about.

SUNDAY MORNING 9/7- Who are we and Why are we here?

THE WHO:

We are created in the Image of God. We are created by God to be like God. To resemble God.

Genesis 1:26-27

26then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, ^[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

You and I are “holy temples” for his spirit to live in us.

Ephesians 2:19-22

So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20 Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21 We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. 22 Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.

THE WHY?

Why are we here?

Genesis 1:28

Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it…”

Fruit: God’s will being done.

John 15:5

“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

If you cut a branch off of an orange tree, the branch is not going to produce fruit.

This is saying that you can’t produce any fruit, or do any part of God’s will with out it coming from God first.

1 John 4:8

But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3

If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 3 If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

This is saying that if he was not doing things out of love (which comes from God), then he would not have been doing God’s will. He would have been doing them to build a name for himself, which in the eyes of God means nothing.

Many of us believe that because we do the right things, we are saved. This introduces me to my next point.

The Problem.

We are all sinners, starting with Adam (except for Jesus)

We are sinners. We deserve to die.

· We use the hands he gave us to hurt

· We use the tongue he gave us to curse

· We use the feet he gave us to lead others in the wrong direction

· We use the mind he gave us to think evil about others

Romans 6:23

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Despite our wickedness, God sent Jesus on the cross so that we have the POSSIBILITY of being saved

Salvation is not: Believing that there is only one God.

James 2:18- You say you have faith, for you believe that there is one God. Good for you! Even the demons believe this, and they tremble in terror.

You can’t say you are saved because you know who God is.

Salvation is not granted because you attend church on Sundays.

· You are not saved because you go to church

· You are not saved because you have been baptized

· You are not saved because your parents are saved

These things may be evidence of salvation, but they are not why you are saved. You go to church because you are saved. You get baptized because you are saved.

THE HOW?

We are saved by being Born again and repenting of our sins.

Born again:

Spiritually born again.

This is the point when you accept Christ into your life as you Lord and Savior. This is the point when you realize that you, just like everybody else, are a sinner and your life means nothing with out Christ. This is the point when you trade in your old life of sin and death, and begin a new life, a life that you have been changed from the inside out by Christ and you begin to live for Christ instead of for yourself. This is the point when the old you “dies” and the new you with Christ is “born” hence the term born again.

Yesterday was a pretty hard read, I know -- so let me give you "HOPE" today, because there is no one who cannot be CURED! Isn't that great! So, you might remember back to when I was talking about my fabulous teacher Jilla, who taught us ETHICS and that guy that had the bag full of wigs and weapons?

This is what Jilla taught me!

She said, "Always look for the one percent of light even in the worst PERPETRATOR, because it is THERE!" -- it is THERE! And so I have used the Yin and Yang symbol above to show you this. See how even in the most "Light" side --there is a black dot? -- imagine that as an "EGG" who is really a good person -- but in a certain circumstance, might steal something from someone -- to feed a hungry child! -- Everyone has that black dot inside them! They do!

On the dark side of the symbol above, imagine an "EGG" that has been so broken, so abused, so hurt, so mistreated that there is only bleakness and despair inside. See that WHITE DOT? That DOT OF LIGHT is inside of EVERYONE! EVERYONE ON THIS PLANET! --- the CURE begins with finding that dot, and, loving it. The THERAPEUTIC cure begins like that. So, do you recall my experience in that REHAB we were talking about?

You can think of those MEN's SOULS like the dark side of the symbol above. THEY HAVE BEEN HURT SO BADLY, and NEVER HAD any GOOD given to them in their lives. They may have had childhoods most of us cannot even imagine. We could not imagine a world that BAD, because we had lucky lives and GOOD ENOUGH MOTHERS! It's as simple as that! -- the work in THERAPY is about "re-parenting" the person! Using a holistic and Object Relations model. It works every time! Because it starts with LOVE. LOVE rebuilds the DAMAGE done to any SOUL. What happens, is that, that little dot of white starts to EXPAND!

Now, the memories of the BAD THINGS are never really going to go AWAY -- BUT! The NEW MOTHERING is going to PATCH UP all the holes in the SWISS CHEESE we talked about. Remember, how we used a piece of swiss cheese to show an example of a baby? And some babies were coming out riddled with holes just like in that cheese? Well, a THERAPIST's JOB is to help the client start filling up all those empty holes.

That's what we do. That's the whole MYSTERY. So, you don't ever have to be afraid of THERAPISTS, anymore.

Somebody behind the scenes around here asked the question "I think I might be a narcissist how can I get help" -- well, the way that you find a THERAPIST for yourself is by asking people for a referral. Maybe a friend of yours had a good experience with one, and they can tell you about a special person.

Another way, is to try seeing a few different people, yourself. Maybe you will like one of them the BEST! -- that is what we call "A GOOD FIT" -- and, that is the most important THING! That YOU feel comfortable with the PERSON you pick! -- THERAPISTS have RULES they follow. It's an ETHICAL CODE. ANYBODY who isn't following that code is not going to be good for YOU, so here is place where you can learn about stuff over at GOOD THERAPY.ORG. You can read articles there, and you can also read the ETHICAL CODES! For yourself!

No matter what has happened in a person's life story -- each SOUL on this PLANET has that white DOT inside it! NEVER FORGET THAT!

I have this really great writer friend named Bud White who survived something so awful when he was a little kid, and his SOUL IS SO STRONG, he is like a HERO to me. So is JOHN McCAIN! -- remember that EGO STRENGTH we were talking about a few pages back? THESE TWO have so much of that, they are like these HUGE ELEPHANTS! That strong! One thing that is of very great concern to me right now is the amount of pills people are taking that they might not really have needed in the first place. At my third and longest placement as a therapist intern we had a psychiatrist as our Clinical Supervisor. She told us a story about a two year old that she was putting on {PROZ-AC.} I had a hard time believing that myself, but?

I didn't like that.

Because I feel that person-to-person treatment is the cure! If a person is ingesting a substance they aren't going to be in touch with their feeling and sensate sides. In fact, they will be NUMB in those areas. So, I want you to think now, about the SELF as an "EGG" like we talked about for a minute. If you took away the feeling and sensate parts of the EGG, you would be taking out the YOLK! -- the yellow heart of the egg! -- in other words the SOUL of the EGG! -- because its HEART and its FEELINGS wouldn't be there!

One time I heard the man that wrote this book speak, and he was so great. This is one of the best BOOKS on this subject. The man Kipnis that wrote it had a theory about BOYS being given medications on purpose so that they could FIT in the classroom and not cause disturbances. Well, if you are a therapist like me -- you know "BOYS WILL BE BOYS" -- and they should be! They have a TON of ENERGY to BURN OFF and usually this is done in SPORTS! Or getting in fights, or? Maybe they are going to be like Huckleberry Finn!

One of the best things I like about John McCain is his ETHICAL STANCE about things, because it is just like mine! Plus, we both went to school in a time when the only pill a little kid took was an aspirin! It wasn't that long ago, actually...

I'll be talking more about Kipnis tomorrow-- but this article, that I haven't even had time to read all the way-- deeply troubles me this morning. I got it from the Los Angeles Times. I want to know about the PORKinPHARMA because, I think it's really important to see which people are involved with getting money behind the scenes for promoting things like the psychiatrist above. I want to know if a monster has been created in an UNETHICAL WAY that perhaps was unintentional? For profit at the EXPENSE OF ALL THOSE LITTLE YOLKS. If so, MY MAN McCAIN will be taking care of it. I have nothing nothing but faith in a man like John McCain. It's because of his HEART, and his SOUL.

Drug makers seek shield from lawsuits

US lenders 'face state takeover'

US mortgage giants Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are set to be put under government control in an attempt to rescue the firms, media reports say.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson will outline government plans at a news conference at 1100 (1600 BST).

The move to shore up the shareholder-owned firms, which hold or guarantee half the US mortgage debt, would be the US's largest ever financial bail-out.

In July, Congress approved a plan aimed

at offering them more liquidity.

This followed huge losses by the two firms as result of a big increase in defaults and repossessions in the US housing market.

'Management told'

On Saturday, a senior politician, Barney Frank, chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, said US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson had told him the government would use its powers to ensure the continued and stable functioning of the companies.

The Washington Post, quoting senior administration sources, said the firms would be put under a legal status known as "conservatorship" which would greatly reduce the value of the two companies' common stock.

Other securities - including company debt and preferred shares - would be guaranteed by the government, the paper added.

The New York Times reported that senior executives at Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were informed about the plan on Friday.

The Wall Street Journal said it would include changes in the top management.

There would also be quarterly infusions of cash to keep both firms afloat, the papers say. The total cost to taxpayers is not known but could amount to billions of dollars, they add.

The government was being forced to step in because it was dangerous for the US economy for doubts to persist about the two firms' viability.

Struggling homeowners

The two contenders for the US presidency, Barack Obama and John McCain, have been briefed on the takeover by Mr Paulson.

"We've got to keep people in their homes," said the Republican candidate, John McCain.

"There's got to be restructuring, there's got to be reorganisation, and there's got to be some confidence that we've stopped this downward spiral," he added, saying that the takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac must not benefit executives at the two companies.

The Democratic Party candidate, Barack Obama, said any action should be focused "on whether it will strengthen our economy and help struggling homeowners".

"We must not allow government intervention to protect investors and speculators who relied on the government to reap massive profits," he said, adding "we must protect taxpayers, not bail out the shareholders and management of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac".

Fragile

On Friday, America's Mortgage Bankers Association reported that at the end of June, about four million homeowners with a mortgage - representing a record 9% - either were behind in their payments or faced repossession.

In the past year, the financial crisis has taken a heavy toll on both Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The country's two largest buyers and backers of mortgages lost a combined $3.1bn between April and June.

Both companies say they have the resources to weather the losses, but their shares have fallen sharply on fears that they could go bankrupt as borrowers default.

The rescue plan passed by Congress in July gave the US government the authority to buy shares and offer liquidity to companies to keep them afloat.

Many analysts believe their collapse would be a major shock to the already fragile global financial system.

Together, the two firms own or guarantee about $5.3 trillion worth of home loans - about half the outstanding mortgages in the US.

That is about 25 times as big as the obligations of Northern Rock - which was nationalised by the UK government earlier this year, and twice the size of the UK economy.

US rivals to make 9/11 appearance

The candidates have entered the election campaign's final phase

The US presidential rivals, Barack Obama and John McCain have said they will appear together on the anniversary of the 11 September 2001 attacks.

The senators said they would take part in the commemorations in New York - the site of two of the attacks.

The two candidates said they would put aside politics to honor the memory of the nearly 3,000 people who died.

Hijacked planes were crashed into New York's Twin Towers, the Pentagon in Washington and a field in Pennsylvania.

"All of us came together on 9/11 - not as Democrats or Republicans - but as Americans," the joint statement said.

"In smoke-filled corridors and on the steps of the Capitol; at blood banks and at vigils - we were united as one American family.

"On Thursday, we will put aside politics and come together to renew that unity, to honor the memory of each and every American who died, and to grieve with the families and friends who lost loved ones."

The event at Ground Zero - site of the collapsed Twin Towers of the World Trade Center - will mark the first time Mr McCain and Mr Obama have been together since they were formally nominated as presidential candidates at their parties' just-completed national conventions.

The two agreed not to run television ads critical of each other on Thursday and Mr McCain's campaign team said they would not run any ads.

With the parties' nominating conventions over, the candidates have been gearing up for the last weeks of campaigning up to the 4 November election.

2. He tells us he is going to cut 10's of billions of dollars in wasteful spending yet has never ever talked about eliminating earmarks. John McCain on the other hand vows to veto any bill that has earmarks. 

3. "I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems" Why do you think they are unproven? they don't need to be proven, in our age we need every defense we can get against missiles, especially since Russia has been getting a little drunk lately. 

4. I will not weaponize space. What? who even wants to? thats fine he gets one. 

5. "I will slow our development of future combat systems" This in laymen's terms means he will cut funding to the military, so he is going to do what Clinton did in the early 90's. Very poor move. Cutting funding to the military would hurt the economy, it wold lead to a decrease in the amount of supplies the military purchases from the private sector. We saw this during the Clinton administration.

6. "I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons" Sorry Mr. Obama won't happen, Russia, China, North Korea, Israel, and many other countries won't go for it. We live in a world that  sad as it sounds a necessity. Negotiating with Russia won't happen. I mean look at what happened to South Ossetia and Georgia. So much for negotiating. 

Heres the thing, I really don't want Obama to get elected thats mainly why I have been writing this and actually updating, because if I can convince one person not to vote for him I think it's a mission accomplished. 

On a side note, simply because I don't agree with anything Obama says or does, absolutely does not make me a racist. I have no problem with one's skin color. and to be honest every-time I hear, "Oh McCain is way to old I can't vote for him" thats just as bad, he is 71 years old and if he is young enough to be in the senate then he is young enough to be the President. Don't discriminate on someone because of their age, stage, race, hair color, eye color, gender or socio- economic status all of it is discrimination and all of it is wrong.

I keep hearing that this is going to be the most important election in history what happened to the elections 4, 8, and 12 years ago when everyone said that they are the most important elections. I simply don't think it's the most important, it WILL be the most historic election is history, which no matter who your supporting is pretty awesome.

UPDATE: The Obama campaign is saying today that the flags were going to be donated. Really, so they didn't know that yesterday. What they said they knew was that they were stolen. Humm, at least $5,000-10,000 worth of American flags are "stolen" and there is not a police report anywhere! liars.

The Democrat party bragged about having a "green" convention, but they put 12,000 American flags in garbage! They didn't recycle them they put the flags in the TRASH. Some alert Colorado veterans saved them and brought them to today's McCain Victory rally in Colorado Springs. The veterans then handed them out to an eager crowd. The flags were waving and the songs of patriotism were playing load and clear!

Now the Democrat party claims that the flags were STOLEN! According to Fox News, Damon Jones, spokesman for the Democratic National Convention Committee, released a statement saying McCain should applaud the fact that thousands of American flags were “proudly waved” at their convention.

“But instead his supporters wrongfully took leftover bundles of our flags from the stadium to play out a cheap political stunt calling into question our patriotism,” he said.

Of course the great Obama would never do any thing to disgrace the American Flag. The problem with this lie is that some of the falgs could not be used because they were found soiled from the GARBAGE by American Veterans. The Boy scouts had to go through the bags of American flags separating them from the garbage. This kind of disrespect for our COUNTRY shows that the Obama campaign is an angry hate America and apologize to the world agenda that will cost him the election. Yes, I question Obama's patriotism and the Democrat party's agenda to destroy our freedom.

The Democrats will not stand for us, they already advocated retreat and defeat in Iraq. They said 'THE WAR IS LOST!" They to this day cannot say that the surge is a SUCCESS and VICTORY is at hand. They were wrong on Iraq and they are wrong about our country being, according to Michelle Obama, "A down right mean place."

These images of today's victory rally in Colorado Springs show that this country still cares about our flag and all that it stands for!

Let me set one thing straight, going into Iraq was not something I supported. It happened because the multilateral group imposing sanctions were too interested in their oil contracts. The French and the Russians had a lot to lose if Saddam Hussein was taken from power. They refused to act, as they will when Iran spirals out of control.  This forced the USA and Britain to act unilaterally. The damage done by subverting the will of the international community is now being played out in Sudan. The blood of 300,000 dead rest on the hands of the same people that call President Bush a war criminal. If free people do nothing to subvert blind aggression and racial hatred, they bear the shame of the consequences. Yes, I am talking to you peace loving ideologues, who stand by while the undefended are slaughtered. You have neutered the only countries that are willing to do anything about it. The African Union can't control anything on their contenient. The Americans still remember Somolia, another attrocity caused by the left wing ideologies you hold dear. Lets face it here. Africa is on nobodys top list of places to protect. No place on earth are borders as fluid as the cradel of mans conception. The trap has been set for those willing to protect the unprotected. Genocide still happens, and peace protesters do nothing but throw empty talk while hundreds of thousands die. To ignore your part in these henious acts is to ignore reality. Talking stops when you have a gun to your head. Only an hippy would bring a pen to a gun fight.  Human rights extend far beyond the effects of a few American bullwhips, or a carribean island most would pay to visit on holiday. Some times you have to fight. The world will not change to fit your ideas of peace and love. John Lennon asked us to "give peace a chance", and was paid back with a bullet.

US campaign reaches final phase

Republicans can't be trusted with the economy, Mr Obama says

US presidential rivals Barack Obama and John McCain have begun the final phase of their campaigns following their anointment by the party conventions.

Mr Obama, the Democratic candidate, seized on high unemployment figures to tell a rally that Republicans must be driven from the White House.

Republican John McCain promised to work to fix the economy.

Both candidates are focusing on key battleground states ahead of the presidential election in November.

Campaigning in the industrial north-east, Mr Obama criticized Mr McCain's acceptance speech at the Republican convention on Thursday, citing the country's economic woes.

"If you watched the Republican National Convention over the last three days, you wouldn't know that we have the highest unemployment in five years," Mr Obama told workers at a factory near Scranton, Pennsylvania, on Friday.

"They didn't say a thing about what is going on with the middle class."

Government figures show that the jobless rate reached 6.1% in August.

Mr McCain told supporters in Wisconsin - another swing state - that the sagging economy had squeezed everyone in the country.

"These are tough times," he said. "They're tough times in Wisconsin, they're tough times in Ohio, tough times all over America."

But he promised that "change is coming".

The candidates were gearing up for the last weeks of campaigning up to the 4 November election.

They used their respective party conventions to address vulnerabilities in their campaigns.

Mr McCain - who has a reputation as a maverick - tried to strike a balance between distancing himself from an unpopular presidency and rallying the party's conservative base.

His selection of conservative Sarah Palin as a vice-presidential running mate helped rally supporters of President George W Bush.

A week earlier, Mr Obama - who needed to heal Democratic divisions after his primary election battle with Hillary Clinton - got a boost when her husband, former President Bill Clinton, gave him unqualified backing in his convention speech.

The week so far has been pretty low key with infrequent bouts of tasks to do. Peter and I planned out our finances for the rest of the seven month. We are not paid a great amount so we have to plan our spending accordingly. After deducting taxes, my post job tour of Japan costs, a monthly reserve and housing costs, I took that and determined a per month/ per week/ per day spending limit. Now that I have established myself (mostly) I hope to keep beneath the daily minimum and build up a Fun Reserve™. I am not getting paid a ton, but I will have enough to live on

This is all not too difficult because my main spending is food and train tickets. Usually when I go out, I am satisfied with walking around, eating and having fun with friends. Cheap in price, expensive in memories™. More or less, that is what I did this week.

On Tuesday, my cohorts and I ventured to Ebisu in search of a second hand english bookstore. At work I looked up the address for the place. Apparently the biggest second hand english bookstore is located in Tokyo and fits entirely in a medium size room on the third floor of building tucked beyond a JR station. The selection was solid none the less, and exchange students Tom and Sarah were very much satisfied. Afterwards, we went to a Ramen shop, the greatest food ever according to Tom.

On Wednesday, some exchange students, Yurie and I headed over to Harajuku for a waltz through the area. I was hoping to find some cosplayers, people who dress in self made meticulous costumes and apply 20 kilos of make up and hair products to look like their favorite anime/manga/video game characters. It was dusk when we arrived so the cosplayers had scattered and ran home to their parents.

So it became a free form adventure of finding the nearest shiniest object and going towards. Our shiny object quest led us to a clothes store, the Harajuku bazzar alley, and then to a pizza shop. The clothes store had cool clothes (if you are blind or like to dress in the dark). The most absurd clothing I have ever seen was there: a vest literally made out of a (used?) carpet. Yeesh, The bazzar street looked the same as two years ago: rediculous clothing shops (goth craziness and a lot of shoes), and crepes!

Thursday night, my co-worker Noriko-San informed me and the students of a short Bunraku performance at a particular subway station. It was only a half hour performance, but it was free! After work, Proffesor Sterba, her aunt, John, Heather, Noriko-San and I jumped on the subway and took it south a few stations.

Bunraku is a rather unique theatre style that features interacting puppets. These ain't your little sister's puppets. These are articulate jumbo sized puppets that are operated by three shrowded puppeteers. Lines and narration are given by an offstage narrator.

The Bunraku wasn't too difficult to find, there were plenty of people swarming the small event in the corner. Thanks to my trusty lanky legs, I had a good view despite being behind a hundred people. Unfortunately for my height deficient friend, their view was limited except for Heather. She was chosen to be able to go up to the front and try out the Bunkraku puppet!

The rest of the night was spent chilling with some of the exchange students in the living room. I was challenged to a game of Set. An infuriating game of matching cards based on attributes from a pile of 12 cards. Jaselyn, my arch-nemisis, was a seasoned veteran and unbeatable by mere mortals. Her aptitude for matching squiggles, circles and diamonds gave her a commanding lead. So much so that she taunted me by pointing out collectible sets. After being demolished, she explained that not even her friends or family back home will play with her.

Subsequently, I played a game of shogi with John who had just learned how to play the game earlier that day. Shogi is a similar to chess but is ridiculously more complicated thanks to colorless pieces decorated with Kanji, pieces that are captured (killed) can be placed (read: resurrected or zombie-fied) on the board at anytime and anywhere, and pieces can be "upgraded."

It is difficult to develop long term strategies because you have to play the board and, unlike chess, anticipate your opponent's stash of undead warriors that mercilessly land from the sky. Insanity.

Insanity, just like the ridiculous snack John bought at the local store: Dried fish. John and I decided to enjoy a fish.

Not only did they look like morbid fossilized demon serpent babies, they didn't taste too good either. I have had tasted the flavor before but these injected with a kilo of salt each. That wasn't the only reason to grab for some water either. The scales of the fish broke off and scattered everywhere. Some fell on to the back of my tongue and triggered my gag reflex...

Don't worry boys and girls. I kept it down long enough to enjoy another three fishes...
