Call + Response is already sold out in the Belcourt Theater, but you still have a chance to check it out at the Thoroughbred Carmike in Franklin, TN. We are one of seventeen cities that have the opportunity to support this cause directly. You can also support it by buying the soundtrack, which we can all assume will be amazing.

You can also join the Call + Response network by texting 90999, type "call" or another option is to sign up through Critical Mass.

I just discovered their Take Action link which will lead you to Chain Store Reaction. This will give you a chance to contact major companies to speak against slavery and to see their response. Just imagine, if we each took 10 minutes to contact these companies, we could be changing the lives of millions. (It actually took me less than five minutes.)

I took some CDs to work today to play overhead and *hopefully* get some sales from it. It's worked before. But I was looking at the selections I picked and thought of the stories behind why I got them and where. And I thought it was interesting. So I randomly grabbed a few more to round it out and decided I'd share a little.

George Harrison All Things Must Pass - One of my favorite albums of all time. This was purchased in the winter time at a little chain music store in Indiana. I remember it was during my full-fledged OBSESSED phase in the Beatles, and being the George Girl I am, this was a necessity for my then tiny and novitious collection. I do have a distinct memory of popping it into my Discman and being floored by "I'd Have You Anytime" as I read the liner notes and realized the song had been co-written with Bob Dylan. (Incidentally, this is an album I do not currently own on vinyl and would love to. If you find a decent copy for under $25, please let me know.)

Imogen Heap i Megaphone - The first solo album of the other half of Frou Frou. Of friend of mine played bass with her for a tour two years ago, and I was able to see him with Imogen in Chicago. It was a fabulous show - she even had sore throat and you never would have known it! - and sometime during her set she sang "Come Here Boy," an absolutely beautiful and perfect song of lovesickness. At the time it seemed to perfectly encompass the feelings I had for a certain someone. The next day I ran to the Virgin Megastore on Michigan Avenue and purchased the album. The rest of the album was no disappointment. That song remains in my Top 20.

The White Stripes White Blood Cells - Their break-through album (though Elephant and De Stijl are, in my opinion, equally as good). I decided to get this one on a school trip to New York City at their Virgin Megastore. Back then I always had to get new music when I traveled. The only prompting I had to get it was that the White Stripes were EVERYWHERE - all the music magazines were red, white, and black and declaring the new resurgence of blues-based garage rock. "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground" became a song I would play on my guitar at lunchtime to impress the theater kids, and the album was added to my soundtrack of high school.

Jump, Little Children Magazine - The one I picked off my shelf is actually my second copy, the EZ Chief pressing and not the original Atlantic Records pressing. It's a wonderfully fun album, and being the huge J,LC fan I am I just had to add the indie label pressing to my collection. This one was purchased at a Jay Clifford show in Charlotte last year (I was working merch with Taylor). The only difference in the two is the liner notes, with the new version adding a few more names and readjusting the order. Yes, I am a dork.

The Pierces Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge - I think I read a short review of this album in either Paste or Magnet and based off the cover decided I would like it. Schoolkids Records in Athens, GA (one of my fave places) didn't have it so I had it special ordered and it took nearly two weeks. My first impression was that the band was made up of one of the girls from Ladytron and the lead singer of Black Box Recorder. Then I found out it was actually two sisters from Alabama. Oops. Here it is a year and a half since then, and now the Chain Name Bookstore I work at currently has five copies of it in their browser racks and a promo copy they play in-store. It makes me laugh.

Just the other day I was shuffling songs about in thoughtful order to create a playlist on my Ipod. I was making a mix cd for a friend that tells the story of a girl and a guy in the sunset of their relationship, followed by the onset of a new encounter between the girl and another guy while also reflecting the scarring/healing process of her previously failed relationship. The mix was supposed to be a dialogue of some sort, where a girl sings and then a guy responds. I started the mix with a short instrumental called “A Beginning” by the Beatles just for the namesake of cuing the listener that indeed this was the beginning of the mix. A bit contrived but it sets the tone for the first few tracks. I followed it with Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek” which happens to be one of my favorite songs of all time or at the very least, an iconic song during this season of my life. I’ve know this song for some time but since I’ve recently encountered relationship struggles of my own I’ve come to appreciate her lyrics much deeper and I’ve concluded that Heap is not only an extraordinary vocalist but a captivating and witty lyricist. Intrigued by the seemingly elusive meaning behind some of the phrases in the song I did a little research and came upon a stellar description/interpretation that I cannot take credit for. So, I offer my sincere thanks to whoever posted this on www.lyricinterpretations.com .

the takeover, the sweeping insensitivity of this still life.

(the takeover meaning being pushed aside by the other?
The harsh cold and gray of loneliness after having known love and the loss of it.)

hide and seek
trains and sewing machines ...Oh, won't catch me around here...
(i'll not play the "game" of finding love...
I will never marry again.....)

(and this is why... Her past experience was so brutally painful and damaging
blood and tears.... They were here first

ohm, what'd you say, mmm, that it's all for the best

It was a challenge for me to choose a song out of my collection that would flow, not only in tone/timbre but in content as well since her song has such presence. I won’t list the rest of the songs I ended up choosing since that’s not really the purpose of this blog (unless some of you are curious, in which case I'll list the rest of the songs along with their lyrics). It is in fact just a little thank you note paying tribute to Imogen Heap.

Music is in many ways a life saver for so many of us. I’m not a musician but I appreciate music of all sorts… especially when a song’s lyrics deeply empathizes with one’s life experiences coupled with a tonality and rhythm that reflects the emotional intensities of human interaction… sometimes a great song can relate with you even better than a friend...but if they're a really good friend they'll share the pleasure/pain all the same. Indeed, music is the gift that keeps on giving, for us the living. What a profoundly beautiful symbiotic relationship...

If you’ve ever felt that way about a song, be it melancholy or uplifting, I’d love to hear about it.

And if by slim happenstance that Miss Heap might ever stumble upon this... Thank You.

Yesterday, The New York Times featured a story about the founding members of the University of Indiana’s all-male a cappella group, Straight No Chaser. The group, composed of ten men, most of whom are in their early 30s, recently scored a five album record deal on Atlantic’s Atco imprint based on the success of a YouTube video, posted last December, of them singing “The 12 Days of Christmas” back in 1998.

As a former college student (and, yes, former member of an a cappella group myself), this news came as an overwhelming shock. Yes, a cappella is a prominent part of the performing arts scene on a host of college campuses across the nation (there are more than 1,200 college groups nationwide, according to the Times), and yes, many a cappella groups may even be regarded as “cool” on some of the aforementioned campuses, but a major label record deal? Preposterous! As I can tell you first hand, while you might be inclined to mention your beat-boxing skills during a conversation with a sorority girl at the Keg of Evanston in the midst of your ruddy-cheeked undergraduate years, you don’t talk about it once you get your diploma. No one outside the world of midterms, date parties, and refilling your student ID with Munch Money points wants to hear about your pitch pipe-blowing prowess. A Cappella, in a post-collegiate universe, is decidedly lame-ass.

That said, it was all the more astonishing to me that Atlantic decided to invest in these dudes, most of whom haven’t been college students for over a decade. Craig Kallman, the chief Atlantic executive who “discovered” the group, envisions Straight No Chaser finding their niche alongside such light fare as Josh Groban, Manheim Steamroller, and novelty holiday acts like the Trans-Siberian Orchestra (famous for their big-nutted heavy metal reimagining of “Carol of the Bells”). I mean, maaaybe. But even if Straight No Chaser scores fleeting success as a slightly gayer version of Manhattan Transfer, are they capable of sustaining five albums worth of crowd-pleasing vocal stylings?

Probably not. The fact is, there’s a reason why a cappella has yet to break out of the realm of student center basements and dormitory common rooms. As a genre, a cappella is cheeky, ironic, heavy-handed, and self-conscious. Sort of like most college students. It’s also, and I resisted the urge to say this, but ultimately gave in to the part of me that thinks most eighties pop hits sound better when performed by the 1999 Dartmouth Aires, potentially really incredible to listen to when expertly arranged and performed by talented singers. Even so, what seems transcendent at a Parents’ Weekend show in Tech Auditorium isn’t necessarily going to fly with the American public at large. Add to the equation the fact that the members of Straight No Chaser are essentially old enough to have fathered today’s college students, and the whole thing doesn’t exactly sound like a surefire recipe for success.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, with the economy being the only thing failing worse than the music industry at the moment, I can see where Craig Kallman is coming from. Try out some all-male a cappella, see how it goes. The worst thing that happens is that Atlantic continues to sell no records. And with a budget of only $200,000 (which is very low by major label standards, but fantastically extravagant to anybody who’s ever tracked mezzo-sopranos singing “Since U Been Gone” in Freddie Feldman’s basement), the label’s hardly taking an economic gamble. It’s just like, come on man, if you’re going to tap college a cappella for a major label release, don’t put all your eggs in a ten-year-old-novelty-YouTube-video-shaped basket. Craig Kallman has obviously never seen legit college a cappella if he is so moved by annoying physics majors weaving “Africa” into a Christmas carol. That shit’s old hat, dawg. If you’re trying to put out a cappella that has any potential to be cool to anybody, you’ve gotta appeal to the people who like it in the first place: college kids. That said, why not pick one of the best current groups in the nation, and spend two hundred grand on them? Give me a major-label, polished, glossy release from the SoCal Vocals, or Off the Beat, or the Beelzebubs. Or Purple Haze. That shit would be siiiick. And so what if the group changes every year when members graduate? Market that shit right, and you’ve got yourself the next Menudo.

The other problem with collegiate a cappella is that it’s primarily composed of covers—half the fun of going to a cappella shows is seeing how groups are able to recreate your favorite tunes, using only their mouths! While this is indeed really awesome, the integrity of such an art form would likely not hold up if treated as an actual, nationwide release. Would a cappella cover versions of slightly older hit singles begin taking over the airwaves? Would already-established artists release a cappella b-sides to keep up with the burgeoning trend of instrument-less music? Would a cappella groups find minor, but not insignificant pseudo-pop stardom along the lines of groups like O-Town, Dream Street, and BBMak?

Nah. It’s just too dorky, and Straight No Chaser’s thirty-something chic is not likely to improve that perception. Still, I will say this: it is possible, in the years ahead, and if more dudes like Craig Kallman are willing to put a cappella in a major label spotlight, for a highly-talented, innovative songwriter who uses a cappella as his/her medium to rise to some sort of well-respected prominence. Remember a little Imogen Heap ditty called “Hide and Seek”? All a cappella, baby. What about the intro to “Diamonds on the Souls of Her Shoes”? No, there isn’t even a stray djembe in there. The point is, while a cappella does indeed have potential, there has yet to be a significant contribution to the world of pop music that would elevate the genre above the something-you-hide-about-your-past-when-trying-to-seem-hip level. And while Straight No Chaser is not likely to change that with their upcoming disc, “Holiday Spirits,” don’t be surprised if all of a sudden some all-vocal jam from four kids in Bedstuy becomes the sleeper hit of summer 2012. Right before the apocalypse.

I've been thinking for half a day what should I start with... The answer popped out just before I got to the uni, when my iPod started to play astonishing live performance by Imogen Heap recorded at Studio 11 (Indie 103.1 FM).

This version of the song shows what Immi's genuinely about: combining earthily powerful vocal with sophisticated technological arrangements.

Tracks on her latest album ('Speak for yourself') are so beautifully crafted that it's hard to believe they can sound any better, especially when bearing in mind all the electronics that are involved, but this way of thinking turns out to be misleading.

[caption id="attachment_13" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Immi is the master of filling bytes with soul"][/caption]

Imogen uses her techno-toys really creatively, adding to 'Just for now' even more warmth and passion. Actually, it's 'only' acapella version and it wouldn't rise to a range of masterpiece if there weren't all these devices behind it. However, the crucial thing is who controls them and Immi is the master of filling bytes with soul.

To be honest, that's the most amazing and inspiring performance I've ever seen in my entire live.

I am an Imogen Heap fan, and like many fans, my favorite song is Hide and Seek. The bridge in the song about 2:50 into the song is just perfect for any dramatic scene. The OC initially did this, but I don't give a fuck about that show. The SNL spoof - called "Dear Sister" - of that scene in the OC was hilarious. But it doesn't stop there. I have fallen in love with other Youtube spoofs of this scene.

First here's the SNL spoof, followed by some of my favorite youtube spoofs.

i finally finished watching all five seasons of 'six feet under.'

for those who haven't watched it, i would highly recommend that you rent it / become obsessed with it immediately. this show, very quietly, speaks volumes about death, relationships, youth, family and communication. i was seriously weeping by the time i got to the last episode because i was so emotionally invested in all of the characters and felt heartbroken when they were hurting and overjoyed when things went right for them. often times when i watch tv shows, i remind myself to be conscious of the actors acting, but in 'six feet under' i just lose myself in it and it's hard to imagine that these characters i feel like i know so well are just actors acting. alan ball, who produced 'american beauty,' also created and wrote most of this show, so if you know anything about him, you know that the writing is crazy and oft-inappropriate, but absolutely brilliant and real.

here are some songs that have appeared on the show:

arcde fire - cold wind.mp3

Just saw an all girls band while visiting a friend in Finland. Actually, that's a wrong description because even Indica is made only of girls, it is not at all what you typically think of when you say 'all girl band'. They were entertaining, fun, and the melodies sounded very beautiful and kind of like from a strange film world. I didn't understand the words but the language sounds very cool when they sing it. I missed their tour last year when they came with Nightwish to Copenhagen so I was really happy to get a chance to see them now. Hopefully, I will get to hear them in English sometime soon.

"I want you to...oops, I want to keep you happy. I am not able to get over this feeling that we will be perfect compliment to each other. And I have no clue why I'm faltering so much today."

I was sitting there, in front of the man I had known for over a year, lost.

“Smita, why do you have that piercing look?” he asked.

“Huh?”

He sniggered. “I meant it in a good way. I’m sorry but today seems to be a bad hair day for my vocabulary. But hey, your eyes are really very powerful.”

My dark circled eyes. “Yeah right!” I thought to myself.

“I know what you are thinking… but losing in life and regaining what you lost makes you the most confident person right?” he said, referring to my last disastrous relationship with someone else.

I wanted him to shut his mouth for sometime but he just wouldn’t.

“Take your thoughts slow. For you I shall wait a lifetime.” he smiled.

Divya had mentioned during one of our girlie giggles that guys can be very very dramatic when it comes to love. And now, I knew what she was talking about. This guy, whom I knew as a practical fella seemed hopelessly lost in love. I grinned.

“Smita? Do you think it’s funny? I’m trying to convey something to you and I won’t be able to do it unless you take me seriously. Please!”

“OK. I’m sorry.” I said matter-of-factly.

“This is all you gotta say? Speak something ya!”

“For all you know, a hungry heart and a hungry stomach could be dangerous”, I smirked.

He smiled sheepishly and searched for the attendant to place the order. “Are you going to order something, for once?”

I usually make the others order my food. “The usual. Go ahead, please.” I replied.

He muttered something which I heard as ‘indignant idiot’. One of the travails that you have to encounter when someone who knows you back to front asks you out. You would get no sweet and pep talk. I sighed.

He selected the dishes very carefully from the bill of fare, which I thought was very cutely designed. My look shifted towards him. He was passing a joke to the attendant and both of them were laughing. The attendant walked away and after some time, came with white roses. He swiftly replaced the red roses, which were on our table with the white ones. This guy surely knew how to woo me! “Are you falling for him?” I asked myself.

“Smita…”

I shot my eyebrows up, meaning to ask him why the roll call.

“What’s with the silence? So not you… say something.”

“Frankly dude, it’s quite weird. I mean, I knew you were hitting on me from quite sometime. I was enjoying the attention I got from you all the while and didn’t bother to think beyond it. I hadn’t prepared myself for this evening. I thought it will be one of those usual dinners when you texted me in the noon.”

He was looking at me very strangely. “Shit happens!” he giggled. And continued, “Uncomplicated and straight from heart. Oh my God! Smity, I’m smitten by you!”

I was flushing and giggling at the same time, I could feel its trickle on my cheeks and I can tell you that he liked it.

We were talking irrelevant snippets through the dinner, but very consciously. And finished it with wine and green chilli mousse. He had circumspectly worked to make tonight a very special one. The dessert said it all.

I tried to act dismissive to his flattery but that wouldn’t work as the guy struck the right chord every time.

He dropped me off at home and had a word of formality with my folks. I saw him off at the door. He held a pregnant gaze at me.

“I had a wonderful time. Thank you. Good night and sleep well” I quipped.

“You think I’d be able to?”

I pulled my infamous facial stunt which he calls ‘the toink look’.

“See you tomorrow”, he said and walked indolently towards his car.

I swayed around the house, like they do in bollywood flicks. Like in ‘Kuch toh hua hae’. Every memory involving him came flooding back, like they did in the last few days, when he had started hinting about his interest in me. It was all hazy and dreamy.

It was exactly an hour and a half since he had left. I tried to read a novel, tried to listen to music, tried to sleep and was tired of trying to do things. I picked up the phone on a whim and punched his number. Two long rings… my heart was beating really fast. Trust me, I could have died. Third ring and he picked it up.

“Hey… what’s up?” His voice was designed to kill.

“Nothing much man. I think I have left something back with you…”

“Hmmmm?”

“The meeting reports. Can you check if they are there in your car?”

“Yes, they are with me” he sounded inexplicably irritated. “I will drop them off tomorrow morning before..”

“Thanks a lot” I didn’t let him complete his sentence.

“No problem absolutely.”

“Not sleeping yet?”

“Nope, was watching..”

“Hey!! I forgot something…” I butted in, yet again.

“Now what lady?” exasperation clouded all over his speech.

I didn’t speak anything for like twenty seconds.

“Smita, are you there?”

“Yes!”

“Yep, so go ahead…”

“Yes!”

“Huh? I know you are on the line. Get to it.”

“Indignant idiot”, I muttered. “Yes, man! Yes!!!”

“Yes? Really? ‘The yes’?”

I was giggling on the other end.

“My god! Smita, why didn’t you tell me in the restaurant? Or after the dinner or when I dropped you back?

“Didn’t feel like it.”

“A passionate weirdo. That’s what you are! Your MySpace profile says it right!!”

“Thank you” I chuckled.

“I love you” he said earnestly.

“Hmmm. I am feeling sleepy.”

“Seriously? No excitement? Nothing at all? What are you?”

“A passionate weirdo.”

I knew he smiled to himself. “Cant wait till tomorrow!”

“I miss you!”

“Bah! Finally!!!”

“Say good night and go!” I was singing the song.

“Good night.”

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I asked Smita out and being the smart chick that she is, said 'yes' to me! I am happy.

One of my favourite bands of all time is Mana. Any Latin music lovers out there? Mana would be a good choice, it is a Mexian band. Mariposa Traicionera and Bendita La Luz. Don’t ask me what it means! I only know a few Spanish words here and there but not enough to even construct a sentence. I desperately trying to sign up for a Spanish Language course!

Muse is also top on my list with its distinctive adventurous musical taste. I feel like it is more towards sort of an emotive metal rock group. Sing for Absolution is great, it feels ethereal and psychedelic while Supermassive Black Hole is a metal music with a pop spin.

Stereophonics can never be counted out as well. I first came to notice the band when I was watching Crash, and the soundtrack ride where the movie ends was fantastic. So I decided to google it up and I found Stereophonics and came into realisation that Maybe Tomorrow is the single that I like a lot. Another single which strikes a chord with me is Mr. Writer due largely to the state of Malaysia’s MSM.

Of course I do like female artistes too. Imogen Heap is my epitome of ultimate adorable and charming eccentricity. Take a look at Headlong and I dare anyone of you not to like this video. Sheryl Crow, I like, but I have problem trying to identify her musical genre. I like her James Bond music, Tomorrow Never Dies.

Next time: Why some of the dandelions have complimented or accused me (depending on how I want to look at it) of being a Neolithic cave painting, in the midst of Leonardo Da Vinci’s and Michelangelo’s paintings because I happen to like oldies like Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin? Should I blame this on ageism?

Got lucky;
Beautiful shot:
You're taking everything off
Watch the curtains wide open
And you're following the same routine;
Flicking through the TV, relaxed and reclining
And you think you're alone..

Oh, why'd ya have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you,
Must you make me laugh so much?
It's bad enough we get along so well..
Say goodnight and go.

One of these days,
You'll miss your train,
And come stay with me...
{It's always say goodnight and go}
We'll have drinks and,
Talk about things and,
Any excuse to stay awake with you...
You'd sleep here,
I'd sleep there,
But then the heating may be down again,
At my convenience...
We'd be good,
We'd be great together...

Go ow ow ow oooo... (sigh)
{Instrumental pause}

Why'd ya have to be so cute?
It's impossible to ignore you,
Must you make me laugh so much?
It's bad enough we get along so well..
Say goodnight and go.

lalalalalalalalalalalalala

Why's it always always:
goodnight and go?
Oh, Darling not again,
Goodnight and... go...

Lots of great music coming out this fall. This is what I’ve been listening to so far…

Lots of great music coming out this fall. This is what I've been listening to so far... If you have Rhapsody, click HERE for the playlist.

Amy Kuney - Bird's Eye View

I would put her in the same sphere as Katie Tunstall and Brandi Carlisle - except her voice is so different, but in a good way. I dig the lyrics in the songs too. "Thank You For Last Night" is superb. The album is great, and so is her version of Coldplay's Viva La Vida: Click Here!

Iron & Wine - The Creek Drank the Cradle

It's not a new album, but I've been listening to it ever since I saw Iron & Wine at Lollapalooza this year. What a great sound - I feel like I'm in the South in an old field house watching the sun set over cotton fields every time I listen to this band.

Samantha Crain and the Midnight Shivers - The Confiscation EP

Folk music today just doesn't get any better than this. I love this girl's voice and sound of the band. It's amazing how someone can write such deep, disturbing lyrics but also sing the soothing and oddly uplifting melody on songs like "The River."

Jeff Hanson - Madam Owl

Great songs. Great voice. Great sound. I still can't belive that it's a guy singing the songs. Weird, but great music.

Wall-E Soundtrack - Thomas Newman and Others

Wasn't a HUGE fan of the movie. But I've been listening to the soundtrack just because it's something different. And it's great.

Black Keys - Attack and Release

Along with Iron and Wine, I also got to see this duo at Lollapalooza. They were probably the best act I saw. The guitarist is incredible. I've been enjoying this latest album of theirs. It's full of blue-eyed blues, classic rock riffs, and garage band grunge.

Imogen Heap - Speak For Yourself

Her real name is Imogen Jennifer Jane Heap. What were here parents thinking? Luckily she became a pop singer. You might recognize her voice from her prior band, Frou Frou. They had a hit song, "Let Go," on the movie Garden State. Anyway, I came across her solo stuff from a Saturday Night Live skit. They parodied a clip from the O.C. that used the song "Hide and Seek." Check out the skit: Click Here! As for this album, I can't get enough of her voice and the beats she uses.

The Walkmen - You And Me

Yes! A perfect album from a great, versatile band. They channel the Strokes, Bob Dylan, and Cold War Kids on this sparse but flawless creation.

Honorable Mentions:

Even though I didn't like the entire album, there are four AMAZING songs I have to mention from two artists:

Teitur (from "Stay Under The Stars"): Don't Want to Wake You Up, Louis Louis

Ane Brun (from "A Temporary Dive"): Song No. 6, Rubber & Soul

i was thinking of doing something new here and i thought of sharing my favorite songs at random.

the first one i'm posting is a live version of one of my favorite songs of all time, let go by frou frou. in case you're not familiar with the song and the artist, imogen heap is the other half of the now defunct duo frou frou.

take time to listen to her voice. it's just amazing. enjoy. :)

##

there's beauty in breakdown...

somehow i need to see that. i need something. anything.
i'm drowning, someone save me.

drink up, baby down
mmm, are you in or are you out
leave your things behind
'cause it's all going off without you
excuse me, too busy you're writing your tragedy
these mishaps
you bubble wrap
when you've no idea what you're like

so let go, jump in
oh well, whatcha waiting for
it's alright
'cause there's beauty in the breakdown
so let go, just get in
oh, it's so amazing here
it's alright
'cause there's beauty in the breakdown

it gains the more it gives
and then it rises with the fall
so hand me that remote
can't you see that all that stuff's a sideshow

such boundless pleasure
we've no time for later now
you can't await your own arrival
you've 20 seconds to comply

so let go, jump in
oh well, whatcha waiting for
it's alright
'cause there's beauty in the breakdown
so let go, just get in
oh, it's so amazing here
it's alright
'cause there's beauty in the breakdown

Imogen Heap - The Walk

Inside out, upside-down twisting beside myself,
Stop that now, cos you and I were never meant to be
I think you better leave; it’s not safe in here,
I feel a weakness coming on.

Alright then (Alright then) I can keep your number for a rainy day,
That’s when its set, no mistakes no misbehaving,
I was doing so well, can we just be friends,
I feel a weakness coming on.

It’s not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don’t want to feel like this, Yeah,
No it’s not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don’t want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault.

Inside out, upside-down twisting beside myself,
Stop that now; you’re as close as it gets without touching me,
Oh now don’t make it harder than it already is,
I feel a weakness coming on.

It’s not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don’t want to feel like this, Yeah,
No it’s not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don’t want to feel like this, so that makes it all your fault.

Big trouble loosing control,
Primary resistance at a critical load,
On the double gotta get a hold,
Point of no return one second to go,

No response on any level, red alert this vessels under siege,
Total overload, all systems down, they’ve got control,
There’s no way out, we are surrounded,
Give in, Give in, and relish every minute of it

Freeze, or make it forever, I feel a weakness coming on.

Imogen heap - The Walk

It’s not meant to be like this, not what I planned at all,
I don’t want to feel like this, Yeah,
No it’s not meant to be like this, it’s just what I don’t need,
Why make me feel like this, it’s definitely all your fault.

Feel like this la la la la la la la la
It’s all your fault (Feel like this) la la la la la la la la
It’s all your fault (Feel like this) la la la la la la la la
It’s all your fault (Feel like this) la la la la la la la la
It’s all your fault

Amazing song!<3

Well with all the anticipation of Imogen’s 3rd solo album starting to snowball up we take time

Well with all the anticipation of Imogen's 3rd solo album starting to snowball up we take time to review one of Immi's first singles "Shine" taken from iMegaphone.

Shocking though it may be today, there's four tracks and three are non album ones! "Shine" is a fabulous alternative rock/noise piece with weird heart beating percussion, reversed keyboard samples and Imogen's soaring vocals really giving it some welly! It was arguably the most single-esque track on the album and deserves any acclaim it has garnered.

However "Airplane" is actually possibly the most commercial and instantly catchy song from the iMegaphone era and it surprises me it didn't make the album. Its breezy chorus was the first real showing of the now staple ad libbing scat that Heap's become known for making a genre all of her own. The music itself a colourful blend of dark bass and fluffy synths and piano.

That's then followed up by the epic "Wireless" which probably just eeks out "Miel" (taken from the "Getting Scared" single) for the winning epic song. "Wireless" comes in at 8 minutes of looped drums, vocal snippets and keyboard samples. It gradually evolves from something hypnotic into something quiet harrowingly cut-throat in the middle segment where all the noise is turned to distorted jabs. However all is restored again after for the ending.

Finally "Leave Me Here to Love" is a personal all time fav from Imogen Heap. It's just her and the piano however her voice has been fused with an electric guitar which I assume is match the sharp tongue as she dishes out all kinds of fantastical lyrics in this angst ridden song of hate and bile. A work of art.

I wish people would still release b-sides like these. Imogen and a few other artists still do thankfully. These gems are worth more than a lot of albums I've bought and any fan would be wise to start collecting this gem now.

The feeling of timelessness crept next to me
I foresaw the mercy being shown

Pressed my eyelids shut in thanks

Watching the individual lashes link together instead of fight for dominance
The sound of fibers meshing together soothing me like waterflow
Mind growing comfortably heavy as if in trance.

Today I am introduced to the Ink Keeper
Kind and sage, body swaddled in ancient lines of text
I bow my head in respect
Shuddering as his fingers press into my spine
Filling my body with a deep shimmering pigment

Today the land beckons me closer instead of creeping away
As isolation begins to frame itself as myth.
