And that's the idea behind the Magners Irish Sessions.

We're putting on a series of gigs celebrating the Irish tradition of spontaneous music. Each night in a different UK city, Irish legends Sharon Shannon, Mundy and Damien Dempsey will take to the stage with a selection of their closest friends and fire the place up for a classic Irish session.

The venues will be small, packed and intimate - and every show will be a one-off. How it goes will be up to the audience and players.

Like the best gigs, it should be lively, passionate and full of surprises.

So, come along, find yourself some space, see who turns up and experience a real Irish session."

Being of Irish descent myself and having been involved in many an Irish knees-up, I'll be there singing and dancing like no one can see or hear me!

Get your tickets before they go, because I'm betting this will be one night that will leave a thousand memories . . .

This weekend Becks and her mom watched P.S. I Love You which turned Becks into a sobbing wreck.  I caught the last 1/4 of it and thought it what I had seen was pretty good.  One scene that stuck out in my mind was when the main character (I have no idea what her name was) was in the bar and the Irish guy starts singing to her. 

I had never heard that song before and had no idea what it was called or who originally sang it so I did a little digging.  I found out it was called Galway Girl, was written by Steve Earle and recorded by him along with Sharon Shannon is 2000.  Other people also thought it was a good song and it was the most downloaded song in Ireland of 2007. 

Tonight I decided to download the song off of iTunes and found out that several other bands had covered the song.  Steve Earle's version of the song did not really do it for me so I ended up buying the one recorded by The Town Pants off their Coming Home album.  This song rocks and is currently on perpetual repeat on my iPod. 

Listening to this song reminds me of being in Dublin in the fall of 2000.  I went with my buddy Alan Dorfman who I met while attending the London School of Economics.  We bought airline tickets for a pound plus tax and ended up staying in a dodgy youth hostel.  I took down my old photo albums and reminisced tonight. Dublin was a blast as we hit the pubs, heard some great music, saw the Book of Kells, ate lamb stew, and met some really cute Irish girls.   The Irish really know how to have a good time and made us feel welcome.  I have never been to a friendlier city, and Dublin was my favorite city that I visited in Europe. 

...ależ to był weekend ;) Pojechaliśmy (15 osób) do Lahinch na zachodnim wybrzeżu Irlandii. Pierwszy wieczór tradycyjnie zaczął się w lokalnym pubie od wypicia kilku pint. Około 1 w nocy pub zamknęli wiec wróciliśmy do domków, no i oczywiście 'party house' był nr 24 czyli nasz ;)

Imprezka trwała do 5 rano, były żarty, dyskusje i przede wszystkim dużo muzyki i śpiewu bo Dani i Richie zabrali gitary... wiec oni grali a my śpiewaliśmy wszystkie hiciory od Pink Floyd, Green Day, przez U2 aż do ostatniego szlagieru Irlandii - Galway Girl. Okazało się, ze Emma ma niesamowity głos - śpiewała Volcano i 9 Crimes - momentami wcale nie gorzej od Lisy. Richie i Dani też potrafią nieźle śpiewać, a cala reszta również brała czynny odział. Nawet ja dorzuciłem swoje pól-szeptane (żeby nikogo nie przestraszyć) chórki w "Green Fields of France".

Następnego dnia pobudka skoro świt o 12 i główny punkt weekendu - surfing! W kwietniu. W Atlantyku. Takie rzeczy to tylko w Irlandii.
Pogoda była super - słoneczko, lekki wiatr. Dostaliśmy pianki, buty - i do wody. Zasady surfingu są generalnie proste - kładziesz się na desce, czekasz na fale, jak przychodzi podnosisz się i tyle. Ha, łatwo powiedzieć. Fale jak w pralce nadchodziły z każdej strony, zimna woda wlewała się za kołnierz - generalnie ubaw po pachy ;) 2h minęły nie wiedzieć kiedy i dopiero wtedy poczułem jak mecząca była walka z falami. Po szybkim prysznicu - wypad na oglądanie Moherowych Klifów. Widoki zapierają dech w piersiach... i podejść można naprawdę bliskooo krawędzi...

Po powrocie kolacja w pubie i muzyka na żywo. Zespól był niezły - "The Threesomes" - 3 kolesi po 40, którzy zagrali kawałek ostrego rock n' rola w klimacie Thin Lizzy - z graniem na gitarze zębami i tym podobnymi atrakcjami ;)

Po powrocie dalszy ciąg imprezy - poznałem kilka fajnych 'drinkin games' :D Wszyscy byli naprawdę zmasakrowani.

A następnego dnia piękna irlandzka pogoda - 11'C i deszcz. A my z powrotem w pianki i do wody. 2-metrowe fale i tym podobne atrakcje. Bawilem się świetnie ;)
