I was asked on the chess site if I watch the olympics. My reaction...no, but I've watched only the swimming, as I know we have a few South Africans that are really  great swimmers. I agree and feel the same as Eilandkind in her Afrikaans post about China and the Olympics. I actually have no intention to watch the Olympics like previous years. I do enjoy athletics and always used to watch any great athletics, but you won't find me this year in front of the tele watching any of it, I would rather spend my day with my research about  Jane Austen or Emily Plummer, which is the name on the grave on the pic which is posted on my previous entry! Two reasons for not watchinng...for what's going on in Tibet and having read a few articles the past two days, I think China is a disgrace! The world should have boycotted China's Olympic fully! Olympic organizers refused to let a seven-year-old sing at the opening ceremony because she was too chubby, it has been revealed.

Lin Miako, the little girl who stole the show on Friday, did not actually sing a note and was miming throughout.

Instead, the voice heard by millions around the world was that of seven-year-old Yang Peiyi, who was ditched from the ceremony because of her chubby face and uneven teeth.
Chen Qigang, the general music designer of the ceremony, said: 'The reason why little Yang was not chosen to appear was because we wanted to project the right image, we were thinking about what was best for the nation.

'The reason was for the national interest. The child on camera should be flawless in image, internal feelings, and expression.

'Lin Miaoke is excellent in those aspects. But in terms of voice, Yang Peiyi is perfect, each member of our team agreed.'
Organizers also admitted parts of the lavish opening ceremony were pre-recorded.

The ceremony won rave reviews around the world for its use of fireworks and a series of perfectly choreographed sequences, watched by an estimated 1 billion people.

Some of the fireworks though did not actually go off that night.

'Some footage had been produced before the opening ceremony to provide theatrical effect,' Beijing Games Executive Vice President Wang Wei said.

Among the sections that were pre-produced were parts of a stunning fireworks display across the city, a series of fireworks "footprints" that led to the Bird's Nest stadium where the four-hour extravaganza was staged.

A night-time aerial shot traced the consecutive explosions on the ground as they approached the stadium.

'There were footprints of fireworks,' Wang added.

'Some of them were genuinely produced. Some maybe were used from previously recorded material.'

Estou com a impressão que esses jogos olímpicos vão ser um fiasco para a China.

O tempo da transparência chegou e não é mais possível mostrar o que é bom, esconder o que é ruim. A velocidade da informação e o poder do cidadão comum, que com acesso a internet, ou um celular com câmera (até de vídeo), pode fazer um estrago nunca visto antes.

Além disso, o número de pessoas dispostas a protestar é muito grande. Quem poderia imaginar que em diversos países, seria quase impossível correr com a tocha olímpica na mão, pois manifestantes malucos tentariam apagá-la com tudo, até extintores de incêndio?

Eu nunca pensei que isso fosse possível. Quando vi ao vivo e a cores a tocha olímpica passando perto da minha casa no Rio, há alguns poucos anos, a emoção foi incrível. Milhares de pessoas na ruas vibrando com o espírito olímpico, incentivando nossos atletas. Um momento muito bacana. Vou lembrar disso por um bom tempo.

A tocha é um dos principais símbolos da integração entre povos, une as pessoas. Nos deixa com um astral melhor. Os protestantes combateram isso, imagine o que vamos ver daqui alguns dias, durante os jogos.

Acho que os protestos são justificáveis. O meu ponto é que acho que a China fez um mal negócio. Tentou se mostrar, se vender para o mundo, com essas olimpíadas. Ouvi dizer que vão até interditar as indústrias que mais poluem por 60 dias, para melhorar o ar de Pequim... Pode acabar "queimando o filme".

seit geraumer zeit verfolgt so ziemlich jeder mehr oder weniger fassungslos, was die lieben chinesen in tibet für einen tanzveranstalten. friedliche demonstranten verprügeln, menschen umbringen, mönche jagen, alles kaputt machen und damit das alles jetzt noch möglichst ohne augenzeugen vertieft werden kann, muss jeder, der einen ausländischen pass hat, ausreisen. seiten wie youtube werden von der chinesischen regierung einfach abgeklemmt, dafür zeigt das staatsfernsehen hübsche, idyllische szenerien auf tibetischen märkten, als die welt noch in ordnung war. wann war sie das überhaupt?

gut, mit menschenrechten haben die chinesen es eh nicht so, ist ja allgemein bekannt. sie sind zwar gerade erst von den amis von deren schwarzen liste der menschenrechtsverletzer runtergenommen worden ("nicht mehr so schlimm" ), aber an der amerikanischen urteilsfähigkeit ist ja ab und zu auch zu zweifeln. aber wie schmerzfrei kann man eigentlich sein, angesichts der kommenden olympischen spiele und der tatsache, dass die GANZE welt dabei zusieht (nein, hier wird alles übertragen, was zu übertragen ist und hier wird auch nichts gesperrt, es sei denn wen jiabao sorgt dafür, dass hier einfach nichts mehr ankommt - und er ist gerade auf dem besten weg), einfach alles mit füßen zu treten, was irgendeinen sinn hat?

die olympischen spiele in peking wegen sowas zu boykottieren, spricht gegen den olympischen geist, gegen den geist des sports an sich. andersrum widerspricht das, was in tibet passiert dem gut funktionierenden menschenverstand, von geltenden gesetzen mal abgesehen. aber was sonst kann die welt gegen so viel arroganz, sturheit, dummheit und derartig große scheuklappen sonst tun? die frage ist sicherlich, ob man sich auf das gleiche level herunter lassen sollte, eigentlich denke ich nicht. dummerweise ist der lerneffekt bei solchen menschen (= chinesische regierung) nicht besonders hoch, wenn man sie einfach machen lässt. wie bei anderen tieren auch.

vorhin gelesen: der dalai lama droht mit rücktritt. für mich persönlich eine wirklich krasse ansage, da der dalai lama auch mein religiöses oberhaupt ist. schön hierzu von saschalobo: "Dalai Lama droht Chinesen mit Rücktritt? Ist das nicht, als würde Bin Laden den USA mit Selbstmord drohen?" ja, genau so ist es.

besonders toll in dem artikel finde ich den absatz:

"Diplomaten: Sicherheitsrat wird sich nicht zu Tibet äußern

Der UN-Sicherheitsrat äußerte sich bisher nicht zur Lage in Tibet. Es
herrsche überwiegend die Ansicht, dass sich China andernfalls provoziert
fühlen würde und sich in der Sache dennoch nichts ändere, sagte ein
UN-Diplomat, der namentlich nicht genannt werden wollte, am Montag."

sich bei jedem scheiß einzumischen und hier angst zu haben, dass china sich provoziert fühlen könnte - daumen hoch. echt, ich bin beeindruckt. noch nicht mal obersheriff george hält es für nötig, seinen in der regel überflüssigen senf dazu zu geben - geht ja auch gerade nicht, ist ja mit dem irak beschäftigt.

auch ein highlight in dem gerade nicht ganz funktionsfähigen kopf des wen jiabao: die proteste in lhasa wurden von "der clique vom dalai lama angezettelt und organisiert", die chinesische regierung habe "zahlreiche beweise" dafür. ja. und abends, wenn alles nicht so gelaufen ist, wie er es sich morgens vorgestellt hat, geht er irgendwo petzen und schiebts auf seine arbeitskollegen. und wehe, irgendwer klaut ihm sein förmchen, dann gehts richtig rund.

gestern habe ich in meinem analytics-report gesehen, dass sich tatsächlich auch mal menschen aus dem ausland hierhin verirren - und nicht alle unbedingt aus unseren nachbarländern. für den fall, dass irgendein chinese auch mal hier aufschlagen sollte: so siehts aus:
