The Story: Well, there I was at the church, my Bridesmaids and Mother helping me into the dress

The Story: Well, there I was at the church, my Bridesmaids and Mother helping me into the dress... all of the day's preparations were now coming to an end...

I had one of those invisible zippers on the side - it was a difficult zipper to begin with, but I'd always been able to get it closed when I was working with the seamstress, etc. They zipped it up, and I started moving to the right to grab something, when all of them at the same time started yelling, "No! Stop!" So, I did - and when I turned to face the Bridesmaid who had the main hold of the zipper - she was staring at my Mom behind me. And, she refused to answer me when I kept asking what was wrong...

I am now less than an hour away from my wedding ceremony, and the zipper was broken. Seriously.

I sat there for hours while various people tried to fix it - but, it was a lost cause... a few teeth on the zipper had broken, and one side refused to move. Even worse - I am in a hot room with no a/c or a fan, and I am covering my boobs with my arm, because I had taken it down below them in order to make the zipper more accessible. We finally found a fan - and, I just remember that I kept yelling at my Mom to keep the door closed because I could literally see my groom outside getting pictures done with the groomsmen.

My amazing Bridesmaids were standing by with tissue to keep blotting the sweat from my hairline, so that my makeup didn't run. I think I maybe cried - but, I remember thinking at the time that it didn't matter - "cry all you want - the dress is f***ed" was more specifically what I thought. Everything else had been going too smoothly - this was it - this was my nightmare... something had to go wrong! :)

Pay attention - because if you have an invisible type zipper on your dress - this could save you!

My wedding planner had everything in the world in that "wedding emergency kit" - but nothing that could help... we tried pliers - but, they were too oily, and could have ruined the dress with big black streaks. We were running out of time - the guests were here, we had to do something. At that point, I was ready to walk down the aisle wearing the white tee shirt and linen pants that I had worn to the church... but, there was one final option, if we could find the means to do it.

My Mom said it first, I think... "sew her into the dress."

It just so happened that Christine - my Grandfather's wife of several years - was a seamstress! And, she also brought her small sewing kit with her everywhere she went. Of course - it was at the hotel, and not the church. So, we sent her on a ride with my cousins to the hotel in an urgent attempt to get that sewing kit... in the meantime, we were able to dig up a needle and thread from the church, so my Mom started the job. She was about 6 stitches in when Christine got back, and started going to work. Thank god she was fast, and good at what she does. I was not going to be getting out of that dress until I took scissors to it at the end of the night! It reminded my friends and I of something medieval - like being locked into some kind of chastity belt or something before my wedding night. :)

The rest of the wedding went off without a hitch - it got me through the entire night with no problems! It made a great story for the reception also - as word of the debacle had made its way around the room by the time I arrived.

At the end of the night - I borrowed scissors from the hotel front desk on our way up to the room - my husband had to carefully break the stitching without damaging the rest of the dress (which, to my surprise - he did!) Then, I had to finally just do what I had wanted to do back at the church - just break the damn zipper apart to free myself from the dress.... it felt great. :)

Now, here is what is left of the side seam of my dress, where we had to stitch over the zipper:

The dress only needs a new zipper, fortunately - it wasn't damaged otherwise. Now, the looks on my face in these pictures (originally shown in another post below) makes a bit more sense - they were all taken in the Bride's Room at the church, after my dress was sewn up:

How can YOU be prepared for something like this:

Keep in mind - my dress was NOT a cheap one! This can TOTALLY happen to you! Just have the following items, and information with you in that magical "emergency" kit that you are supposed to have:

A full spool of white thread - along with black, because tuxedos are not immune to debacles!

A set of needles, and a box of straight pins

Scissors, and a seam-ripper for the end of the night!

Good Bridesmaids, and lots of tissue to blot, while you sweat out the situation!

I was fortunate enough to have a fantastic seamstress... but, you may not be so lucky. Think about who will be in that room with you, and if you cannot think of a single person that knows how to use a needle and thread decently... write down these steps:

Thread your needle, and pull it through to reach the end where you cut the opposite end from the spool - you should have a doubled thread to sew with. Make a knot at the end (you can cheat by wrapping the end of the doubled thread strand around your finger 3 times, then rolling it off the end of your finger, and pulling down the threaded mess until it creates a knot... it works, I swear!)

You don't want to damage the dress - be careful! Your very first stitch should go through the INSIDE/Underneath first, then come out - you don't want the knot to show!

As you stitch one side to another, make sure that as you complete a full stitch - you loop the needle through the stitch itself, creating a solid knot, essentially - the same kind of stitch that you would use to finish anything sewn by hand.

When you get to the end of that thread, do a few of those looped stitches to hold. One thread should only partially get you through the length of the zipper - ideally. You want to have several "sections" of stitching, using several different lengths of thread. If you have several sections, this will save you in the unfortunate event that the stitching does not hold for some reason... if the stitching comes apart in one section - the rest will stay put. This saves you from showing off the goods to your new in-laws! :)

Once you're done - you are sewn into that dress until the end of the night! :) Just hang on to that seam-ripper for the end of the night. If you can manage to rip open your last-minute stitches only - that means that you don't damage the dress, and it only needs a zipper replacement to be good again! Ta-da!

Remember, it happened to me... it can happen to you! But, you can save yourself the heartache by being prepared! :)

So, I didn't actually notice this mention of my business - GaGaVida Vintage & Handmade - until after this article came out in the Storque section on Etsy.com featuring "Handmade Weddings" as the subject... but, there was a brief mention of my little store in there!

The link to the store is here - they mentioned one of the candles from my line of Designer Prayer Candles... the candle mentioned was a precursor to what I will be releasing within the next month: a line of candle designs focused on hideous bridesmaid dresses called, "Angry Bridesmaids!"

I haven't released any of the new designs as of yet - but, there will be a group of them released all at once... and, this goes without saying - they would make fantastic gifts for your bridesmaids! I know my friends are not the kind of girls that would want something "standard" as a gift... how about you? No way - we are the "indie brides" right?

So, a picture of the candle featured in the article is below - obviously, called "deal-breaker." I also included an example photo of what a finished candle actually looks like (if you haven't already seen them before.)

As always, you can find GaGaVida products here.

I still cannot believe that my wedding is over... it doesn't seem possible. Absolutely crazy...

I'll be sure to do a series about "It happened to me" disasters that you can avoid in your wedding (but, I did not.)

First, however - I thought that I would include some photos for you all to enjoy... so, enjoy!

My beautiful bridesmaids made me feel so special the entire weekend... they are all so dear to me.

Bad attempts at "Abbey Road" photos - however, I have not yet seen the professional photos yet! These are purely snapshots! You can see the famous Brown Palace Hotel in the background - across the street from the church.

My groom. (I am in the background with my brother... the groom is the one holding the bouquet... of course!)

Our fantastic cake! The cake guy did exactly what I wanted, and it looked exactly how I pictured it... plus, it actually tasted great as well!

This one is so funny to me, simply because it is so great! We look like an ad for David's Bridal or something! Right?

Waiting with the original men in my life - my Dad, and little brother.

Oh man - I was freaking out here... the story is forthcoming on the "dress freakout!"

I was a MESS! I soooo could NOT keep myself from crying! At least my Dad looks good. I cringe at the idea that I was crying while everyone was expecting me to "shine!"

That's all you get for now! I can't wait until the professional photos are ready to see!

Like I said - you will hear the stories... however, you must wait for the time when the post fits...

"Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were chilly, but when they lit a fire in the craft it sank, proving once and for all that you can't have your kayak and heat it, too."

Bible verse of the day: Proverbs 8:17

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank You for Your Word today. May Your Words, be a constant guide in my life and a reminder of how great You are. Father, I thank You for my life and every detail that You have included in it. You know all my ways and because You love me so much, I am blessed for having shared every detail with You about my life. I thank You for this day!

Get your ass over to Ga Ga Vida's store blog! It's sweet, and now it has a real purpose!

Here is the good news... I have my first set of listings up! Woo hoo!

Well, I actually have listings up in two different places - a few in Etsy, and a few on eBay... I just couldn't help myself! I'm on stupid eBay everyday - it just seemed like what I had to do! It's killing me though, because I can't open a "store" on eBay yet (until I get20 feedback... which hopefully should happen real soon!) Then, I will actually have a store front, etc. - just like my Etsy store. Then, I will most likely switch things up, and I will have a store on eBay that carries mostly clothing - and, Etsy will carry the handmade items that I make. I think that each site is better for each of these particular things. Haven't sold anything yet... but, okay - not much listed yet, either. :)

But, the blog is rad - lots of photos and model info, plus you can become VIP for free before I hit the headcount cap! And - let's be honest, VIP with Ga Ga Vida means that you get free presents on your doorstep, like it's your birthday! Seriously!

Okay - bookmark these:

*The store blog: http://gagavida.wordpress.com
* The Etsy Store: www.gagavida.etsy.com
* Email for questions: abbyeliselehman@gmail.com

…and get that, or mix that with this, and it’s like getting this with that, or free dirt

...and get that, or mix that with this, and it's like getting this with that, or free dirt, heY!

ANEMIC ROYALTY RECOMMENDS NOT ~ "Talk about, 'what were they thinking,' or not thinking, or writing, or saying, or getting out of my face, or not - what's up with Amazon.com? Listen, I can go get Rosie O'Donnell's new book, which she did not write, did not say or do half of what is not in there, and has not been printed yet, or.....I can buy O.J. Simpson's new book which is really an old book, which never actually was a book, that neither did he not write, never said or did anything that is in there, and does not own, or if I put both of these together, I can save a boat load of money that I do not have to spend on either not really books, that I will really never read, because if I did it, nobody would want to hear about it, and I would be embarrassed if anybody knew I did do it anyhow." ~ Anemi Easy, did not book review

Did Amazon really mean to put these two non-writers together? I guess I understand, I mean, it's close to Halloween, and not to talk ugly about the non-writers, but neither one are not going to need to buy a fright mask, and both have perfectly horrible tales that neither will tell, and both rear up and won't go away just like The Great Pumpkin, but what do I know, or skip that, because why would I want to? This really is better than snake oil, and if I only made a dime in connection with this, you can be assured I would have it framed, or bronzed, or shot to the not a planet no more; Pluto, heY!

Seriously, if you do buy one of these books, or opt for the great "two-fer" special, don't tell me about it, or do tell me about it, but don't call me at home, but do call me over at Britney's, where I will be rinsing out my shorts, but not with her not kids, because it's grown-up's night in, and not out, OK?

Now, this is great. Here's the official description of Rosie's book, Celebrity Detox;

"Sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, and always brutally honest, this is Rosie O'Donnell's surprising account of the pain, regret, and euphoria involved in withdrawing from celebrity life--and the terrifying dangers of relapsing into the spotlight."

Got it? Good. Now, swap O.J.'s name with Rosie's and re-read. Two-for-one book deal, huh? Actually, think of the time you are going to save by not reading either not a book yet, of your choice. Just close you eyes and point, you can't miss. For some reason, though, the Amazon site says these two books are "Better Together," and I agree, and that is why they consented not for the really is a picture of them both above. If you want to know the truth, I believe this is all a trial balloon to sell the soon to not be announced nuptials romance book between Rosie and O.J., which really is not nuptials but is a not a romance rumor either if they did it.

OK, so if you really, really have no skill to read, no desire if you did, but had money, but not for this, and are waiting for the movie, you are not getting off just like that, because, here it is, just click on Rosie:

Oh yeah, and I almost forgot, Amazon says:

Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought: Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith's Death, not posthumously written by not living and not really a blonde, Anna Nicole, or maybe the other offering Amazon suggests; The Awakening, which might not be a bad idea for a book written by another of my favorite not a writer; Melissa Etheridge.

"EVERYBODY IS UP TO SOMETHING, heY"

Let me share with you my favorite song. I love the depth of the thoughts and the pleasant melody that touches soul like a gentle breeze.

Find Me by David Gates

The skies are not as blue, when you're not with me
The stars, they never seem to shine as bright
And the hours crack like days across the ages
And a year or two pass by with every night.
It makes me know if i should ever leave this world before you do
When you follow you must promise, cross your heart and promise to

Find me...look hard, and dont stop, I'll be waiting 'till then
Dont sleep, and dont eat 'till I'm back, back in your arms again
I dont wanna have to spend all my forever without you.
Just knowing that your out there somewhere too.
So darlin...please I'm begging you on bended knee...
Find me...

I've tried to tell this world how much i love you.
But they dont understand how deep it goes.
And i can't even find the words to tell you
So I'm the only one who really knows.
And though we have our times together, I am always wanting more
So if we get separated wont you do just like before and

Find me...look hard and dont stop, I'll be waiting 'till then
Dont sleep, and dont eat 'till I'm back, back in your arms again
Through a hundred million faces you will see me shinning through.
'Cause I'll glow when you come close , I always do.
So darlin' please im begging you on bended knee..
We can share our love through all eternity
'Cause with you is all i ever wanna be......
Find me
