Today there was about a thousand performances on Music Bank, like it was on music core a couple of days ago, so I decided to write about these performances as well. But not as much as I did last time, because I have to continue my "How to produce a Prince" watching!
Anyways, the artist I've written about are: Min Woo, H-Eugene feat Kim Ji Hae, Banana Girl, Epik High, Son Ho Young, Taw feat Kim Eun Jung, Hyena, Lee Hyun feat Daylight and SeeYa.

Min Woo: xNoodles words have destroyed me, every time I watch his amazing performances now I just want to cry. Don't ever leave me handsome boy! <3 Back to the performance; The singing was alright and the dance killed me a couple of times, so much rawrness! Watch the performance HERE.

H-Eugene: This performance made me so happy for the win, I felt so freakin' loved! Anyways, Kim Ji Hae sang the chorus really well and H-Eugene's rapping was awesome. Watch the performance HERE.

Epik High: I can understand why you're fallin' Tablo, nobody can resist me! To business, Epik High actually sang two songs and the first one they performed was Fallin where Tablo dedicated the song to me. Or not. And the other song they performed was 1 minute 1 second, where they had the pretties’ background and the whole performance was just wonderful. I loved the whole theme of it, seriously you have to watch it! Watch the performance HERE.

Taw feat Kim Eun Jung: I have a secret crush on Jaeurazn1 on Youtube, but don't tell her/him. That's surprisingly true, because that user always upload lots of music from artist who aren’t so mainstream. Like Taw, that boy could rap and the collaboration between Eun Jung and Taw was superb! Hyena: Hyena and Aladdin will fly away on a magic carpet to turkey tonight! And they'll probably play A whole new world on their magic carpet stereo while they’re at it. No, but seriously it sounded exactly like all of Turkey's entries for Eurovision. No offense, but it did. Watch the performance HERE.

Lee Hyun feat Daylight: Ever since I heard Daylight singing together with Noblesse in 상심증후군, I've fallen in love with her voice. This song wasn't really as good as the one with Noblesse, however Lee Hyun's singing is really good! And the hug in the end was so adorable. Watch the performance HERE.

SeeYa: Welcome cute outfits and adorable singing, but I'm actually starting to miss their old ballad-image now. Oh well, they'll get bored with the cute-image soon enough anyways. Watch the performance HERE.

FALLUJAH, Iraq (September 19, 2008) – Four years ago in the poverty-stricken neighborhoods of this city, Marines were attacked within minutes of beginning routine foot patrols.

The locals here were strongly opposed to the presence of Coalition forces and a vicious insurgency devastated the city.

In 2004, Lance Cpl. James Swain, an intelligence specialist with 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, was fatally wounded by a gunshot in one of the cities’ neighborhoods.

On Sept. 20, the brother of the fallen Marine, Petty Officer 3rd Class Benjamin Swain, a corpsman with Battery M, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 1, from Kokomo, Ind., visited the site where his brother gave the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

“It felt as if I looked hard enough, I could see him there,” Benjamin said. “It all seemed surreal and I'm honestly not too sure how I feel, but I do know I'm glad I went.”

Maj. Jeffrey McCormack, who was the intelligence officer for 3rd Bn., 1st Marines, and is a native of Oak Forest, Ill., worked closely with James during their deployment together in 2004 and was nearby when the shooting occurred.

McCormack, now the operations officer for 1st Bn., 9th Marines, RCT-1, contacted the Swain family shortly after James’ death and regularly keeps in touch with them.

A few months into McCormack’s current deployment, he discovered Benjamin was deployed to Fallujah—only minutes away from his old living quarters. McCormack quickly contacted Benjamin via email and they planned to meet.

“Once I found out Ben was near Camp Fallujah, I set up a dinner with him after one of my meetings,” McCormack said. “During the dinner, I asked Benjamin if he was interested in going to the alleyway where his brother was killed.”

After some coordination, the two set out to visit the site.

They first visited the rooftop of a building formerly occupied by Coalition forces. The roof of the building was the last place McCormack saw James alive.

The night before James left for what was to be his last mission, McCormack asked James if he had any pictures of himself from the deployment. James said no, and McCormack pulled out his digital camera and snapped a few shots of him on the rooftop.

“I immediately recognized the area from the pictures,” Benjamin said. “Being there and just being able to see the places where he spent his last hours meant being able to connect with him in some way.”

Benjamin and McCormack stood on the roof reminiscing about James. McCormack pointed out various sites in the city and told Benjamin the sequence of events leading up to James’ death.

They looked over the city one last time before setting out on a foot patrol with Marines from 1st Bn., 9th Marines, to the site where James was shot.

Iraqis smiled and waved as the patrol made its way to the alleyway. The friendly atmosphere was vastly different than the one James and McCormack experienced four years ago.

Benjamin said every day he sees the progress resulting from the sacrifice his brother and thousands of others have made, and their loss is not in vain.

“I've never thought his death was in vain,” Benjamin said. “He died doing what he believed in. But the progress we’ve made is a testament to the hard work and sacrifices of all who served, and that cannot be taken for granted.”

Benjamin said if his brother were still alive he would be pleased at the country’s improvement.

“He would be proud and maybe even smug,” he said. “He would probably joke and say something like, ‘its safe around here because of me…because of what I did.’"

Benjamin said he and James always believed in serving their country, and following James’ death Benjamin joined the Navy as a corpsman.

“In high school, my brother and I agreed that while everyone can’t serve, everyone should want to serve to help repay for the many opportunities we are granted just by living in America,” Benjamin said.

“I understood that all Marines are brothers and seeing how my brother was a Marine, that made the Marines my brothers, too,” he said. “So I figured as a Navy corpsman, I'd get the opportunity to serve with some of my brothers.”

McCormack said there can never be closure for him because it is far too difficult getting over someone’s death, but he is thankful for the opportunity to share the day with Benjamin.

“Benjamin was very grateful for the opportunity to see the actual area his brother was killed and the rooftop of the building where the pictures were taken,” McCormack said. “It was just as beneficial for me to be on that rooftop with him. I don’t want to say it brought closure because the pain of losing a Marine never goes away, and the loss of a brother will certainly never go away for Ben. "...I keep on fallin'/in and out/of love/with you..."  When Number 5, Alicia Key's "Fallin'," hit the radio in 2001, I was entranced.  When I saw the video I was even more captivated by the intrinsic drama and cinematic scope of the mini hip hopera.  "Fallin'" cut through the airwaves like a katana blade through a smooth cinnamon roll.  The orange-jump-suited-field-chorus is at the same time awe-inspiring and haunting as their image stays with you beyond your first viewing.

Ms. Keys is of the hip hop generation.  And this video is what happens when someone of some privilege  (piano lessons and performing arts school) puts their lens on it.  You get a romanticized (and actually enthralling) version of the prison love story.  Striking, with braids and an urban chic style, Alicia melded a street sensibility with an organic old school yet modern sound that pleased the masses.

"Fallin'" is a song that speaks for itself.  Though I do not follow Alicia and buy all her albums (I have 1), she had me at "I" with this song.   With music seeming like so much processed and packaged left-overs, "Fallin'" was hot buttered soul on a biscuit.

This means that Americans on average, now have about 1 in 2 homes equipped with a stand alone freezer, to combat the high cost of food prices.

The economy continues to erode.  You can add the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. to the list of entities that may be in line for a Treasury Department bail-out, The Wall Street Journal reports, following an interview with the agency's chairwoman.

The FDIC is a bit cash-strapped these days as it props up failing banks across the country. It announced on Tuesday that 117 ailing banks are now under its care and that the FDIC holds an astounding $78 billion in distressed bank assets.

The Guardian points this out. And, The New York Times says it is so, the FDIC sees the banking crisis going from bad to worse. Today's political news isn't much better ... Our government truly deserves to be dismantled ... Little taste of it here.

But take note, all the news is not bad.  Wendy's announced the national rollout of a 99-cent double cheeseburger with two beef patties and one slice of cheese, competing with the value meal menus from Burger King and McDonalds.

Now if only we can find the buck?

Been following this bad news in the Soviet Union republic of Georgia.  Haven't figured out how this will play out on the price of a gallon of gasoline, but I am sure they will work it in, one way or the other. I also read where all of the Wal-Marts across Alabama sold out of ammunition as of yesterday.  A reliable source said that one of the purchasers commented that while Russia may have invaded Georgia, they sure as hell ain't doin' it to Alabama!

Nice Payday.  University of Central Arkansas President Lu Hardin who has been plagued by criticism over a $300K bonus resigned and will get a buyout package of some $700K more.  That will teach him!

Here is another good payday story, one that is even better.

In Fort Jefferson, New York, a churchgoer donated a lottery ticket to the True North Community Church after scratching it off, the pastor noted that the ticket was worth $3 million dollars.  State lottery officials said the church will receive at least $102,225 a year through the year 2028.

Most lottery winners take the "cash option" as no one knows what the tax structure will be in twenty-years.  So they opt for the cash option and take a considerable loss.  But if you are "tax exempt" you can take the payout option and receive the "entire amount of the prize." As you don't pay taxes anyway, so you can afford to wait it out.  Must be nice huh?

A twenty-six year old was arrested for attempted armed robbery in Long Beach California yesterday.  Witnesses were able to ID the dumb crook by a distinctive tattoo on his forearm.  It read:  "Not Guilty."

Maybe it is just me, but I put that one down under the "funny side" of life.

Big Archaeology find . . . After having dug to a depth of 10 feet last year, New York scientists found traces of copper wire dating back 100 years and came to the conclusion, that their ancestors already had a telephone network more than 100 years ago.

Not to be outdone by the New Yorkers, in the weeks that followed, a California archaeologist dug to a depth of 20 feet, and shortly after, a story in the LA Times read: "California archaeologists, finding traces of 200 year old copper wire, have concluded that their ancestors already had an advanced high-tech communications network a hundred years earlier than the New Yorkers."

One week later, my daily paper, quite possibly the absolute worst newspaper in the USA, reported the following: After digging as deep as 300 feet in his pasture near Mustang, Oklahoma, Billy Raye Littler, a  self-taught archaeologist, reported that he found absolutely nothing.  Billy Raye has therefore concluded that 300 years ago, Oklahoma had already gone wireless.

Thank God for Billy Raye Littler.  Who said Okies were hicks?  Someone needs to apologize to Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi if you ask me.  I wonder if they give their kids three names too?

Not knowing if any of this was amusing or not, it is time to pack it in.  Now I suppose it is time to slink off to my ever faithful lawn-chair on the front porch, my personal arcadia which I hope will be a region or scene of simple pleasure and quiet.

My little sleepy community of serene peace, where I can separate the toils, troubles, politics of the world and all the dogs are down for a mid morning nap.

Kino postmodernistyczne, awangardowe jest mieszanką stylów i gatunków, stawia na chaos, różnorodność nadmiar, przesadę. Korzysta z zapożyczeń, cytatów, żartów, kalamburów, piętrzą się w nim symbole i metafory, nie może być zatem mowy o jednoznaczności. Często pojawiają się w nim spowolnienia lub rwanie toku akcji. Lynch to  mistrz metafory i absurdu, stawiający przede wszystkim na niesamowitość: Chodzi o to by stworzyć poczucie tajemnicy(...)Przecież w życiu zdarzają się neizrozumiałe rzeczy, ale kiedy pokazuje się je w kinie ludzie zaczynają się niepokoić.

Lynch nigdy publicznie nie interpretuje swoich filmów: Film robi się po to, by go oglądać(...)Tajemniczy i ciemny, oto najpiękniejsze z istniejących słów - zwykł mawiać grając na skłoności widzów do analizowania a nie przeżywania.

Klimat jest chyba najważniejszy w filmach Lyncha. Atmosferę reżyser buduje operując głównie kolorem(czerń i czerwień) oraz dźwiękiem. Tło filmów jest zwykle ciemne( Czarna Chata w Twin Peaks). Przeważają sceny rozgrywające się pod osłoną nocy(Blue Velvet, Zagubiona autostrada), przy zasłonietych zasłonach- zwykle są to czerwone kotary( czerwony pokój). Pojawiaja się też ciemne elementy jak popiół, błoto , krew. Czerń według Lyncha daje wrażenie głębi, zbyt dużo kolorystyki dawałoby natomiast po prostu realność.

Ogromną rolę odgrywają też budujące nastrój  dźwięki - rewelacyjne Fallin Julee Cruise z Miasteczka Twin Peaks czy utwór Blue Velvet a nawet muzyka zespołu  Rammstein w Zagubionej autostradzie. I tu ujawnia się dwuwarstwowość- z jednej strony zwykłe historie, z drugiej ich wieloznaczność.

Lynch uwielbia umiejscawiać swoje historie w sielskich i sympatycznych miasteczkach amerykańskich, np. Twin Peaks. Z pozoru piękne, szybko ujawniają swe ciemne strony: popełnione zbrodnie, dzikie instynkty ludzkie, sadomasochstyczne skłonności. Całe to zło nie pochodzi z zewnątrz, lecz z wnętrza ludzkiej nieokiełznanej i niezbadanej natury.

Owej metaforyczności służyć mają wprowadzane celowo przedmioty, np. ucho(Blue Velvet)- symbol głębi, ogień(Dzikośc serca)- jako odpowiednik agresji, mocne makijaże próbą ukrycia się przed sobą, słuchawki telefoniczne i literki(Twin Peaks, Alfabet), postaci- Tajemniczy Mężczyzna z Zagubionej autostrady czy Człowiek Stamtąd z Miasteczka Twin Peaks.

Lynch wprowadza też aluzje, np. wiele elementów z Czarodzieja z Oz można odnaleźć w Dzikości serca( postać Bobby'ego i Dobrej Wróżki). Reżyser między tragizm wplata komizm i groteskę, m.in. płaczący policjant Andy Brennan (Miasteczko Twin Peaks), płonące sutki(Blue Velvet),ciastka wiśniowe będące specjalnością mieszkańców Twin Peaks.

Lynch nazwany kiedyś papieżem filmowego postmodernizmu z całą pewnością zasługuje na to miano. On doskonale wie na czym ma polegać dobre kino: ma mieć klimat, ma szkokować, wywoływac emocje, czasem strach, zmuszać do myślenia(często bezskutecznego).Nie każdy potrafi zrozumieć filmy Lyncha, ale to nieistotne- ważne żeby poczuł dreszcz emocji, uświadomił sobie, że pod przykrywką układności i piękna czai się ukryte ZŁO i niegdy tak naprawdę nie wiadomo kiedy pokaże swoją paszczę.

Do dyskusji na temat Inland Empire Davida Lyncha, kultury, filmów na które warto iść do kina, festiwali, koncertów, książek, które czytacie zapraszam na nasze forum kobiet.

I WASN'T AN ALICIA KEYS FAN UNTIL THIS PAST WINTER when I stumbled upon her single, No One. And what a happy accident, because she's become one of my favorite new singers. Her latest album, As I Am is gritty, soulful, desperate, all the things I've come to love about bands lately. She told EW: "This CD was so severely personal, it changed my voice..."

As I Am is 90 percent flawless. Only a couple tracks leave me wanting, (probably just my own personal musical taste). If anything, you should buy the album for the intensely personal anthem No One and the shimmering "Like You'll Never See Me Again" to support the reinvention of Alicia and her authentic new style.
