Estaw has been popping up with some quality remixes and cuts recently, most of which can be found at his home from home blog, the infamous Palms Out Sounds.

He hits the UK record shops with what is possibly his first full 12" release
this week with the pretty dope Break It Down.

The release comes with a strong array of remixes from the likes of Herve, Detboi and Chew Fu his palms out bro.

But despite the heavy weights its the original that does it for me and is getting the serious CMYK love.

This is fresh rap rave ... an adventure into the dope side of house.

Estaw - Break It Down

and check out more estaw work

Estelle - American boy (Estaw American Grill fix)

Thanks to Beats presents:Hot Biscuits for the links

PS

Its good to see Chew Fu giving his bro a hand...
He even includes his own remix on a mix he recently did
Have you recently helped your bro's out?
What best remix you have done for your bro's?

it wasn’t until last year that I got really into dance music. like… completely absorbed.

it wasn't until last year that I got really into dance music. like... completely absorbed. before that, the closest experience I had was venturing to hipster bars. you know what I'm talking about: places with an indie rock vibe but packing a dance beat punch. no biggie, right? well, things escalated in 2007. electro. house. glitch. whatever. I was like the kid who innocently tried pot "once" only to be swept up into bigger things like cocaine and lsd. i would listen to anything as long as it was solid.

2007 was also the year i got into dj mixes: professional sets condensed into one long ass mp3 file for anyone to download.

"huh? these guys get paid to make crowds go crazy... and now i'm getting their shit for free? okay. i'll allow it." it's a great solution for anyone who gets fatigued playing dj or babysitting their itunes. just click play and let the sonic scenery unfold.

that said, the market has long passed the point of over saturation. because it takes very little technology to make a mix, everybody does it... even those without talent. sifting through the junk to find the gems can be tedious, but the rewards are worth it. my goal in this post is to save you some time by presenting 4 of the best mixes i've ever heard. these things never leave my ipod.:

4. vndlsm "vnd vs. lsm"

if you want a good gateway drug, vndlsm is an excellent starting point. combining playful and solid in one breath, their sound is a gritty, dirty perversion that's always on point. they have fun with their samples, throwing back to weird, almost unworkable pop culture references. i mean, who remixes whitney houston, eurythmics, rihanna and wins in every single one of those battles?

the mix starts out by warming you up with a high pitched scott mckenzie... providing a friendly familiar face before ushering you into a world of complete insanity. vndlsm does this time and time again. they're excellent at working fragments of familiar pop music into an overwhelming synthesizer assault. it's excellent for those who wouldn't dare go forward without an anchor. all the songs weave together nicely, making the set sound like it's own event instead of string of isolated incidents. you can't just slap a bunch of bangers together and call it a day. in the end, you got to tell a story... even if it's with other artists work. vndlsm is one of the few acts out there that gets it.

3. ediT "Hefty Flossed Out Mix"

i rarely consume mainstream hip hop without it being filtered or refined through the remix process. it's not that it's bad... it's just there's too much good music to waste time on the homogeneous. sure, i'll go out and dance to it... but am i going to sit in my room and listen to busta rhymes or e40? probably not.

ediT pulls off the hat trick with this one, taking radio rap to a place that's bizarre and engaging. i'm a fan of glitch when it's done right and he is one of the few who can grab any source material and make it mind blowing. with every glitch/back pedal/pitch bend, ediT has his way with the tracks... slapping them around the room until they learn to love it. flossed out keeps it down tempo but energetic. you wouldn't exactly dance to it... but it's not bedroom rap either. keeping that balance proves tough at times. there are low points ("get 'em high" and "overnight star") but they're out shined by more successful moments (e40, missy elliott, mike jones, t.i., and (god help me) paul wall). the mix gets it right 90% of the time and that's damn good, considering every song is brand new beyond the vocals.

2. Flosstradamus "Vice Records Mix"

everyone's asked the stock question "what kind of music are you into?"... and everyone at some point has gotten that uninspired answer of "i don't know... i like everything". what's rare is when you ask that question and someone responds "everything" and they MEAN it.

meet flosstradamus. these guys are officially all over the map, cultivating the choicest and hottest sounds from across the musical universe. while they make a living as dj's and remixing, their taste goes beyond the dance floor. eventually, vice records got word of these guys and asked them to do a mixtape for sxsw. the result is a proper introduction to the vice records roster... taking their best moments, sequencing them, and blowing them up. considering the gauntlet laid out, it's amazing how all the different bands flow together. it's not seamless like other mixes but the transitions aren't too much of a bother. the tracks are a lot like a family of seemingly distant cousins... they're all so different but incredibly similar. the mix gets you involved with your body, your emotions, and your mind. once you hit the 120 days/charlotte gainsbourg/panthers/klaxons stretch, there's no turning back. you're officially in.

1. Estaw "Block Baller Mixtape"

this is the tour de force. the coup de grâce. the pinnacle. this is what every mixtape WISHES they sounded like. if you don't like this mix, i'm not even sure i WANT to know you.

estaw has this down to perfection. he mixes so many genres together: electro/house/techno/hip hop/rock/glitch. his sound exists independently in it's own universe, occupying space and time with a frantic energy level that demands you get up and dance all night long. and please forget passing time... this thing builds. estaw takes you there by rallying you emotionally, ratcheting up your excitement one bar at a time. 30 minutes later, you're completely vulnerable. completely helpless... then he hits you, and hits you hard. the beat drops out to an incredible build up which bursts into a rowdy electric remix of 50 cent's "i get money". scoffing yet? hearing is believing and if you're down for feeling alive... if you're down to scream so loud it hurts... if you're down to celebrate life with everyone around you, here's your chance. prepare to feel amazing.
