A 15 year old cancer patient who had his arm amputated at a Leeds hospital, after getting a tumour at the top of his limb, has now had his shoulder re-created using another part of the arm... the elbow. Doctors used tissue and muscle from the unaffected elbow. When the tumour was found surgeons took urgent action and had to amputate the whole arm and shoulder joint to make sure the cancer didn't spread. The re-construction of the joint will enable him to have an artificial arm which can now be supported from the shoulder joint. This will give him more mobility and a easier life.

The team at WWCTN hope him the best for his future.

Skype is great. I’ve been using it for over a year now and I love it. With the SkypeOut pa

Skype is great. I've been using it for over a year now and I love it. With the SkypeOut package, I can conveniently place calls to land line phones for a flat (cheap) monthly charge. One of the things I've used Skype for is podcasting. A group of buddies and I have a weekly podcast (a link to follow - once we get the site up). Skype is a stable, robust platform to host podcast sessions over. Of course, we need a way to record our ramblings, so how does 1 go about doing this?

The science of PC audio is a complex one. Aside from just "playing" sound, your audio card is capable of (sometimes) multiple outputs and inputs. While most people are familiar with the traditional "speaker" output and "microphone" input, you might also have separate outputs for each channel of sound in a surround sound system and a line in input. And that's just on the hardware side. Within the sound card, it has the capability to take all inputs and outputs and mix them together into one accessible channel. This is referred to as the "Stereo Mix". While the only required input for Skype is your microphone, your recording software will need to hear more than just your voice. What we'll want to do is record the "stereo mix" channel from the sound card.

Now that we have that accomplished, all we need is a recording program. While there are many available, the best I've found is audacity. It's free, lightweight, and easy to use. Once you download and install audacity, we'll want to tell it to record audio from your stereo mix. All done, right? Not quite. Because of the nature of the "stereo mix" channel, Microsoft often times disables it by default within the audio properties (assuming your sound card supports it). The reason for this is due to the fact that stereo mix greatly increases your chances of producing a feedback loop - where your audio input is sent back through your audio ouput, and in turn back through your input (and so on). Before you tell audacity to record your stereo mix, we'll need to be sure to enable it from within windows.

To enable stereo mix in Windows:

Go to Start -> Control Panel

In Vista, go to the recording tab and find "Stereo Mix". Right click and select enable. Once enabled, right click it again and select "Set as Default Device"

In XP, go to "Sounds and Audio Devices" (If you don't have classic view enabled, you'll need to go to "Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices" first, then the former). Click the "Advanced" button in the volume tab to bring up the "volume control" mixer (alternatively, if enabled, you can always get here by double-clicking the volume icon in the icon tray). If you see a "Stereo Mix" section in the mixer, ensure that Mute is unchecked and the volume is turned up. If it isn't there, go to Options -> Properties, and ensure that there is a check next to Stereo Mix.

Dell, in their ever-increasing attempt to capitalize, decided they would charge users for the ability to stereo mix, so these instructions won't work. However, follow the instructions here to enable it.

Once you've enabled stereo mix, Audacity should record from it (since we set it as default). Try placing a few test calls and recording them from Audacity. If you've done things correctly, it should work. As usual, comment with questions or problems.

That's all! Thanks, and happy computing!

The other day, I was researching hacking my wireless router. After I began, it became clear that I needed to telnet into it (as it appeared that I had bricked the thing). I opened up a command prompt and typed "telnet", only to receive an error that "'telnet' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file". After some research, I found out that by default, telnet isn't enabled in Vista. As to why this is the case, I'm not quite sure as the binaries for telnet can't possible take up more than a few hundred KB. Enabling telnet is simply a matter of going into Vista's "Programs and Features" within the control panel and checking a box.

To enable telnet and other disabled features in Vista:

Open the "Start" menu and select the control panel

Click "Programs and Features"

On the left side of the window, choose "Turn Windows features on or off"

Scroll down in the list until you find "Telnet Client" and place a check in the box (I would also recommend installing the TFTP client as well)

Click Ok and close the window.

It's also important to note that this is the same process to enable IIS (Internet Information Services) applications, such as the FTP and Web servers.

That's all! Thanks, and happy computing!

From time to time Vista creates ’snapshot’ copies of your files with a service called

From time to time Vista creates 'snapshot' copies of your files with a service called "Shadow Copy". This allows you to retrieve older versions from files you accidentally delete or alter.

To go back to a prior version of your file/document, you simply right-click on the file and select "Restore previous versions".

Using the Shadow Copy service is a far easier way to recover your files than opening a backup you've made, and can get you out of some nasty jams. (For more on recovering deleted files, click here.)

Shadow Copy is enabled on all versions of Vista, but Microsoft grants user access to these copies only in Ultimate, Business, and Enterprise editions. (Clearly as a method to try to sell more copies of the pricier Ultimate Edition. Shame on you Microsoft; backup and recovery should be free.)

Tip of the day: Users of the "Home" editions of Vista can use Shadow Copy too.
The odds are pretty durned good that if you bought a new computer, and it came with Vista, it came with Vista Home Premium. I say that because if you walk into a store selling computers, I dare you to find the one that has Ultimate Edition on it. It seems to me that they all come with Home Premium!

Remember how I said Shadow Copy was "enabled" on all versions? Yes? Well, for owners of Vista Home Premium and Vista Home Basic, the service is running, but you need a way to "interface" with it (sometimes called a "front end"). To do that, download and install ShadowExplorer, and gain some of Ultimate Edition's functionality. This cool piece of software is free, but donations are accepted.

Today's free link: People who are using Windows 2000 or XP can get an almost identical file functionality with FileHamster from Mogware. This program is designed for people whose talents lie in the Creative Arts, so you don't ave to be a geek to use it. There's helpful user forums, too.

Please note: This ability is by no means a substitute for regular system backups. This is for small "oopsies", not recovery/restoration.

So i've just started looking at recording my electric guitar in garageband on my new macbook. I didnt know you had to "enable" the audio-in to get it to work directly with the guitar, the sound is going to be weak but thats another issue!

Steps:

1. Connect your guitar cable to the audio line in jack on your Mac using a 1/4-inch to 1/8-inch adapter.

2. Connect your headphones to the output jack. (Don’t confuse the input and output jacks!)

3. Open System Preferences.

4. Click on the Sound icon.

5. Click the Input tab.

6. Select “Line In” in the “Choose a device for sound input” list.

7. Open your recording software.

8. Create an audio/real instrument track (not a MIDI/virtual instrument track).

9. Select Channel 1&2 as your input.

10. Strum a loud chord. Chances are the guitar sound will seem quiet, even with the headphone volume turned up, and the input level meter will probably remain in the lowest part of its range.

HOW ENABLE HT OR INSTALL A SECOND CPU
AFTER WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONL IS ALLREADY BEEN INSTALLED
Instal

HOW ENABLE HT OR INSTALL A SECOND CPU
AFTER WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONL IS ALLREADY BEEN INSTALLED

Install the second cpu, or enable ht in the bios. Boot into windows, and go to the device manager, under processor check and see if windows is seeing two cpus, if not make sure your second cpu is installed properly and that the bios has smp enabled.

1.	Now that your windows xp sees two processors, under processors in device manager, you are ready enable smp.
2. Located your windows xp install cd, and inside the i386 folder you should find two files, ntkrnlmp.ex_ and halmacpi.dl_, these are the files required to enable smp.
3.	Next would be to extract there files to your windows system32 folder.
4.	Open a new dos box, go to start run, and type in cmd.
5.	Now type in
“extract x:\i386\ntkrnlmp.ex_ c:\windows\system32\ntkrnlmp.exe” (x: being the drive letter of your cdrom drive, that windows xp cd is inserted in).
6. Extract the second file, from the same dos box, “extract x:\i386\halmacpi.dl_ c:\windows\system32\ halmacpi.dll”. Please make sure that you don’t misspell the files name (if your windows xp has been installed in a different drive or folder, extract the files into where you installed windows xp and the system32 folder (drive x:\winxp\system32).
7. Now we read to edit the boot.ini. Once again go to into a dos box (start run, and type in cmd), now go to into the drive c: (your boot drive), and type in “attrib –r boot.ini”, next type in edit boot.ini (this can also be done from notepad, after you did the attrib command).
8. Inside your boot.ini, you will see a line multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS=”Micros oft Windows XP Professional” /fastdetect or incase you got windows xp sp2 installed this line may be multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS=”Micros oft Windows XP Professional” /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
9.	Now you can either copy the entire line and make a boot option for windows xp with smp or no smp.
10.	After you copied the line or decide to not copy it, add, the following after the /fastdect [b]/kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe /hal=halmacpi.dll[]/b]
11.	Your new line should look like multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINDOWS=”Micros oft Windows XP Professional” /fastdetect /kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe /hal=halmacpi.dll
12.	Now save the changes to your boot.ini
13.	Your new boot.ini should look something like this
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW  S
[operating systems]
14.	multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windo ws Xp" /fastdetect /kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe /hal=halmacpi.dll
15.	If you decided to have a boot option for windows xp with smp and without smp, your boot.ini can look something like this.
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW  S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windo ws Xp" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptOut
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windo ws Xp SMP" /fastdetect /kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe /hal=halmacpi.dll
16. Please note you should leave a single space between, /fastdetect and /kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe and then once again a single space between /kernel=ntkrnlmp.exe and /hal=halmacpi.dll
17.	Now that your allow set, save the changes to your boot.ini
18. I would highly recommend that you make two boot.ini for windows xp, one with smp and one with smp. Incase you misspelled a file name or missed a step, so you can still boot into windows xp and fix the problem.
19. Now that you are all set, reboot your computer, and boot into windows xp with smp. Windows xp should say new hardware detected, wait a bit, until it asks you to restart, now restart.
20. Once again boot into windows xp with smp. Go to into task manager, by pressing ctrl alt delete, once you are in task manager, click on the performance tab, and there should be two graphs, for cpu usage history, if there is two graphs in mean your windows xp is using both cpu. If there is only graph, please go back and carefully check all the steps.

First off, I'm sorry I more or less let this blog die, it was a horrible thing to do, although while moving over information to an actual server, my grid died, which took a while.

Anyway, we moved over to WordPress as well as changed our name, I give you Heretic Studios!

Let the information sharing continue! I hope you guys enjoy the content, oh and don't forget to tell your friends about us here at Heretic Studios, :D.

Since it is that time of year, everyone is getting ready to back to a long year of school, netbooks are a big craze, so I figured I'd put out a guide on how to make one in particular, the Acer Aspire One a bit more useful!

First off, I know there are a lot of guides on how to enable system access, but I think this guide is going to be a lot easier/faster than other guides, if not just by a few steps, :P.

I'm hoping guide will be the cleanest and as simple as possible while teaching some common use linux commands that you will be using in the future when using the device. A few of these commands are trivial, but in my opinion are critical in having a smooth quick experience.

So, the first step to setting up the desktop right click behavior is to actually show the XFCE control center, this can be done simply through how we're going to launch the terminal, but in order to save time, lets just launch it through Terminal, this is because we're going to have to set a root password through terminal as well.

While holding ALT press F2, this will bring up an application run dialog, type in “terminal”, then hit run or enter.

One terminal is open (don't be afraid, trust me, this is your best friend in linux, and if you're experienced enough, you can perform tasks much faster through terminal than the standard desktop interface, as well as the XFCE linpus modded desktop) type “sudo passwd”, then after this put in a password that you want to be used with root; this is needed especially if you plan on using the application installer gui within the system.

After this, type in “xfce-settings-show” and press enter, the settings dialog will show up. Click Desktop options, then the Behavior tab, lastly Check the Right Click behavior, this will allow you to run applications downloaded as well as provide simple access to the settings and much more.

And that's it really, you can now run the Add/Remove application program or install from terminal through yum (I'm really a fan of Debian based systems myself, but at the price of boot time on the One, the best thing to do is stick to Linpus...but you can still have some fun...).

Thanks for reading, feel free to comment, and don't forget to send suggestions for future posts to me at: ghostinterface@gmail.com!

First of all I want everyone to know the correct pronunciation of my name it's tri-zay short i long a. Snap ya fingas and do step then say it all by yo'self now let me see you do it. Trizah. :o)

About Me:

Remember Murphy's Law: if anything can go wrong, it will? That's how my life was until about 6 years ago.

One day I just got fed up with not advancing. My life was like that movie Groundhog's Day. Same shyt different toilet.

I worked for this school supply from 8am to 5pm Mon-Sat for about 2 years. I quit for two reasons.

The last straw was when for about two months straight everyday when I came to work there would be these chocolate gold coins. Sometimes there would be 3 or 4 some days it would be 6 or 7. I never thought anything of it I just thought the boss was a nice guy and he wanted us to get a little chocolate fix after lunch. Then one day I got to work and there were 21 chocolate gold coins on my desk. I thought someone was playing a joke on me. Like maybe some azzho licked them and wrapped them back up for a dirty office prank and he was sitting across the room snickering and giggling just waiting for me to eat his adulterated chocolates. As much as I loved those smooth, melt in yo mouth candies, wasn't no way I was gonna be somebody's afternoon highlight. I peered over into the cubicle next to me and noticed that the old dude next to me had a lot of coins too. So I asked him why we got some many coins. He told me that each coin represented a million dollars that the company had made at closing the day before. I was in shock. I tried to recall all of the golden coins I had received. I got dizzy just thinking of all those coins as millions of dollars. Then I got pissed. I was making $9 an hour at 9 hours a day. $81 a day before taxes about $73 after. I was making less than $100 a day and he was making millions. I couldn't believe it and I was mad so I sat at my desk and played mah jong for the rest of the day.

The straw that broke the camel's back was when I got home from work that day and flopped down on the couch. My baby girl was playing with her toys on the floor by my computer. I sat and watched her, noticed how big she was getting, thinking abut how time flies when your a corporate bych. All of the sudden my baby girl who was almost a year old, but I felt like I just had her got up and walked over to me. I was sooooooooo excited!!!!! I started crying and yelling for my other children to come and see. They all ran into the living room to see why I was so happy. I said, "Look, she's walking all by herself!" They was like, "mama she been walking. We told you last month when you came home from work and you fell asleep on the couch."

My tears of joy turned to tears of regret and sorrow. I had missed my baby girl's first steps pimpin' myself for pennies at Lakeshore Learning Materials (oops, did I say that out loud?) while they made millions on the daily.

I decided that my family was worth more to me than $73 a day I just had to make more time to pay attenion to, read stories to, help them with their homework, take them to the movies, Chuck E Cheese, and the library, tuck them in, wake them up, mold them, teach them, guide them, and spend time with my children.

I quit the next day.

About a month ago my life was set ablaze by a childhood friend of mine. He spits HOT FIRE!!!!! His focus is on Human Advancement.

During one of our conversations he asked me to define myself. He challenged me to answer the question Who Am I? All alone in the quiet of my room I pondered this question and thought.....

I am a motivator, a risk taker, a change maker, a cycle breaker, and an innovator. Let T upgrade ya!

I believe I can relieve the grieve you conceived when you wore your heart on your sleeve. If yo man ain't treatin' you right I can help you gain the courage to leave. It's my job to help you receive all the blessings you can achieve. I stop people from slitting their wrists. Underachieving is dismissed and I help you see that good people still do exist. People's lives I untwist because I insist that they keep a checklist that consists of goals that they wish they could kiss. With my follow-up program I continue to assist because I am an Achieveologist.

Like many of us I didn't grow up in a very loving and nurturing home. It was every man for himself for as long as I can remember. One thing that kept me sane and entertained was reading. One of the first books I can remember was the Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman that book open my eyes to what it really meant to be 'enveloped' in a story. I had to be around 9. For years I read Judy Blume, Beverly Clearly, and Shiel Silverstein (one of my faves).

I got turned out after I read a book called Trick Baby by Iceberg Slim and another called Dopefiend by Donald Goines. I was a stone cold junkie! I checked into rehab and read Rainbow Jordan, Motown and Didi, and For Coloured Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. Then somebody slipped me Black Girl Lost and I was hooked and strung out again. I read every book Donald Goines wrote. All 16 of them. White Man's Justice, Black Man's Grief was a definite eye opener for me. That novel reinforced the already known fact that I was not or ever will be a candidate of incarceration. By the age of 18 I had graduated Magna Cum Laude from the School of Hard Knocks, was well traveled, and had plenty of game. Little did I know back then that all of my underworld social skills would enable me to survive on the mean streets of Los Scandelous, California.

A few years ago I discovered that the ultimate nature of my being is to achieve.

Trizah Morris-Achieveologist. I am driven by a burning desire to beat the odds and not to be defined by my circumstances. As a result of hard work, I developed and branded the terms Achieveology and Achieveologist to help express my gift for assisting people achieve their goals.

COME IN A CATERPILLAR AND LEAVE A BUTTERFLY!!!!!

Meaning - I am here to change peoples lives by helping them achieve their goals regardless of what they have been through.

Energy - I surround my self with people that want nothing more than to see me succeed and are all about not being satisfied with the norm and have decided to continually take their lives to the next level.

Worth - I have been blessed with the knowledge to help others realize, prioritize, and utilize their gifts and use them to achieve their calling in life.
