i for myself love shopping at outlett malls :)

On the Saturday before Paris fashion week took off, as the world’s financial markets teetered and luxury retailers chewed their nails over recession fears, business was booming at La Vallée Village, a luxury outlet mall a half-hour outside of Paris near Euro Disney.

Shoppers worked through clothing racks with intensity — none of the languid browsing one sees in the full-priced boutiques along the Avenue Montaigne. It was elbow-to-elbow in Armani, Givenchy was being thoroughly picked through, Polo Ralph Lauren’s clubby shelves were like a cornfield after a swarm of locusts, and even the Chantelle lingerie outlet was abuzz.

European Union outlet malls offer safer bargains than American outlets because they are more closely regulated. Brands are not permitted to manufacture special lower-quality products for the outlets. This provides a guarantee that, though you’re buying last-season’s leftovers, you’re getting the real deal. It is even possible to find a runway look or two on some of these shelves.

Another rule requires that outlet goods be sold at a minimum discount of 33% — though the discounts can be much higher. At La Vallée’s Christian Lacroix outlet, a cream-colored wool coat with grosgrain detailing at the pockets was marked down to 660 euros from 2,200 euros. An elaborately detailed cashmere dress was priced at 387 euros, down from 1,290 euros.

La Vallée is owned by the London-based development concern Value Retail, and has sister outlet malls near London, Milan, Frankfurt and Barcelona, among other gateway European cities. About 40% of La Vallée’s business comes from international visitors, but this percentage is falling due to the high value of the euro, says Vanessa Guillemette, senior marketing manager for the mall. She’s working hard to convince Parisians to venture out to the southeast of the city, an area that has never been considered top-notch by the couture crowd.

The other day, I hustled my way into a subway train, sat down, looked up, and saw myself.
By which

The other day, I hustled my way into a subway train, sat down, looked up, and saw myself.

By which I mean that there was a girl sitting in the seat adjacent to mine who looked so exactly, weirdly, like me, that I blurted (because sometimes I blurt), "Oh my god, we're twins."

She turned her head slowly, with that dread-filled expression people have when other people blurt things at them in trains, but when she saw me her eyes widened, and then she burst out laughing. And everyone else within earshot was grinning. I'm not kidding, me and this girl look like curly-topped clones.

Then we were stuck in an awkward situation because we were sitting Really Close Together with our Identical Faces, but what else is there to say about that? "Wow, we both have totally slanty eyes!" Awkward. So, in the interest of having something, anything, to do, she dug around in her bag and had a stick of gum, and I dug around in my bag and applied some lip balm. But while applying said lip balm, of course I used the opportunity to sneak some more super-sneaky glances at her. Only they weren't that sneaky, because our eyes kept meeting, because she was sneaking the exact same non-sneaky glances at me, we are so alike in that way!

So then we started talking, and we realized that people have actually mistaken us for one another in the past. I've been called by her name on the street by strangers, and strangers have occasionally congratulated her for the show I work on.

While exchanging these pleasantries, we're interrupting ourselves every nineteen seconds to start laughing again at how absolutely weird it is to meet someone who looks like us. I mean, there are lots of girls of our same general "type" out there, but this chick and I share, it seems, a "genotype".

And sometimes when I meet my long lost clone out of the blue on public transit, I take a photo of her on my cel phone to show my friends later. And this girl? Y'all, it turns out that sometimes she does the same thing, we are so alike in that way! And then sometimes I realize later, like when blogging about it, that I can't get photos off my celphone without "learning how to use a new form of techmology" and "setting up an account" and "paying exhorbitant data rates" and y'all, my momma taught me better than that. So that photo is staying on the phone, ask to see it some time and I will tell you this whole story again, in person! It will take even longer to tell because I will mime the part about the lip balm!

Anyway, as you'd expect, this girl and I of course traded names and became Facebook friends, and so now I can use Facebook to its full potential, which is to poach through her pics & then use Photoshop to prove my point about how we look alike. So, y'all, let me introduce you to my new twinfriend, the lovely Chantelle. And our hybrid photoshop daughter, Chancole.

I tu przechodzimy do Claudii.

I wore a fairly new Chantelle bra to work today. I've blogged about this one before; it's the one that set off the metal detector at a Los Angeles airport last month. I thought nothing of it when I got dressed this morning but later in the afternoon someone I work with (but don't know very well) passed my desk and commented "3D, you look lovely today. Is this a new look for you?"

I was struck by his compliment; it caught me by surprise as I'm not used to older men in the office taking notice of what I'm wearing. Also, there was absolutely nothing new to my look. . .except for the fact that under my layers of officewear was a super supportive new piece of lingerie!

I let out a nervous laugh because I wasn't sure what to say. He laughed (less nervously) with me and then walked off. I was left to wonder, was it my new bra or did he just like my sweater?

My mom went to an event at Saks and because she knows I get excited about these kinds of things, she gave me her goodie bag. Judging by the loot, the event was likely sponsored by two of my favorite bra companies, Wacoal and Chantelle. In addition to the lingerie wash bags, compact mirrors, sexy underwear, and tiny sweet smelling pillows that are now cluttering my closet, I found six samples of "Breast Petals." The company doesn't have a website but they look like these.

I think the point of Breast Petals is to combat a common problem for women affectionately known as "nippleitis" -- the side effect of either your body temperature or your level of sexual arousal that causes your nipples to be erect at moments when you wish they weren't. I actually find that I enjoy when my nipples protrude through my shirt more than most women do but that's for another post. . .

So back to Breast Petals. This product confounds me as I imagine it may for most big boobed gals. The packaging reads "sometimes you need just a tiny bit of coverage under your tee, sweater or outerwear. Breast Petals can be worn with or without your bra." I never need "just a tiny bit of coverage" and I am rarely "without my bra." This product reminds me that I really wish I knew what it was like to just get up in the morning, throw on a T-shirt, and be ready for the day, or what it's like to shop for formal wear and not wonder how I am going to get my breasts to stay put in a strapless gown. I generally love that I have big boobs but I wish that just for a day I could see how the other half (or the other cup) lives.

I'm going to hang on to these Breast Petals. Maybe I'll try them one day for fun and post about them here.

I cannot believe this. Apparently, Chantelle and Preston are splitting up. I can hardly type, and my keyboard is filling with the salty tears of despair. Why them? They didn't deserve this.

Chantelle and Preston represented all that was good and true and pure in this life. And Simon Amstell represented all that was perverse, and Jewish, and gay. Don't they see that if they split up, Amstell wins. It makes it look like the whole thing was just a rancid and shameless attempt to get media attention.

Actually, it's the media I blame. The constant pressure of papparazzi outside the door, constant photo shoots for OK! and interview after interview after interview cannot have been easy. Can't the media let anyone have a private life?

When will we learn, Britain, to stop feeding these vultures who prey on the carrion of the famous?

Still, at least that means Preston is free now.
