In and Out

Well.......... both Pitchfork and Lolla have occured and aside from all the music I wanted to see, a bonus for going is the people-watching.  Trends come and go, but never are they more embraced (badly or not) than at music festivals.

I'm not dismissing and ESPECIALLY not condoning any of these, but here's a little heads up about what the art undergrads and coffeeshop workers near you will be sporting and/or name-dropping over the next few months:

seit gestern steht die dritte version der deutschen creative commons lizenzen zur verfügung. eine zusammenfassung zu den wichtigsten änderungen findet sich bei creative commons.de und bei netzpolitik.org gibt es ein podcast mit john weitzmann zur dritten version der lizenzen.

ich habe mein weblog bereits auf die neue version umgestellt. ach - wer sich fragt, wieso ich überhaupt creative commons verwende, findet hier vielleicht antworten:

I redesign all the code from scratch, and it was a good idea. The code is cleaner than before, and easier to understand (before it was mess).

The progress has been very slow, in fact, everything until now has been only class design and resolve SDL issues, and the map maker is almost finished, i have then a "Path", but lacks the "finder" ability.

First SDL issue: writing text

It was easier than i thought, thanks to "SDL_ttf", which provide several functions to write on screen, not very well documented, but after a few hours it becomes quite easy.

I created a class called: "Engine_Graphics_TextWritter", which provide several methods that interact wit the SDL_ttf library, like, SetFont, SetFontStyle, SetColor and obviusly a TextWrite method.

The  class is not complete, i just did what i needed at the moment, and the other things remained undone.

I provided the Code (NOT RECOMMENDED FOR REAL USE), so you can learn how to use in a simple way the TTF library, and use it as an example. Then you can rewrite things you need, remove what you dont, and add the features that are left (for example, font change is not working i think, but implementation is pretty easy, i just have been lazy).

Is an extremely easy code, and the TTF functions are pretty self explanatory. Maybe in the future I will update the class to a more completed one.

Second SDL issue: text input

This wasn't so easy as the first one. In fact my implementation isn't working quite right yet, i mean, it works, but it can't be easily be extended.

Following the LazyFooProductions tutorial's is a very good idea, in particular Lesson 23, also you might not want to write the obvious code, is boring :)

So, text input works basically:

• Big loop to process events
• Get the event and process it
• If key press down, and is legal (A-Z,0-9,a-z, but you can make a full implementation)
• then we have to store the actual string in an array (std::string)
• then we have to write (using TextWritter class maybe) the string, but before we must
• clean the rectangle drawn before (and this is not so easy)
• until user press Enter or ESC

Also, be carefull when the string is empty, and when trying to "delete" an empty string. I will upload my code when i fix the main issue: "I 'm cleaning the rectangle with a Fill that has the same colour than the background", i should be able to receive an sprite or a color, but now i'm receaving just a color. It works for me, but is ugly.

Also, I made an Update method inside the TextInput class, is not complete yet (again!), but it should receive as a parameter a boolean indicating if we must make an Update and a constant number indicating the kind of update (UpdateRect or Flip).

I used this in my main engine graphics, because sometimes I don't need to update after drawing (imagine drawing several things).

That's all, I will update the classes with better design, and add the methods that aren't complete yet.

And the pathfinder...

You can see there the map maker...now I can start concentrating in the "Finder" part, more logic and less SDL for a while :)

Delete the game objects that are dead.

To fulfil the above case, you need to iterate through game objects, check their health and delete them if they are dead. The pseudocode would be:

FOREACH game object in game object list
	IF game object's health is less than or equal to zero
		REMOVE game object from game object list
		DELETE game object

Many of us will write the above pseudocode this way:

The above code seems perfectly fine but when executed you will notice that after deleting zombie02, the iterator will be invalidated and crash at i++. This is because i is a reference to the element previously storing zombie02 which is now removed. The solution is to make i set to the next iterator after zombie02 (which in this case is zombie03). STL containers erase function will return the next iterator after the one specified in its parameter. So the correct code would look like this now.

When he first told me, I was like, "As long as The Kooks are not part of the line-up, then I won't have to kill you (Leonard)." I woke up ten minutes ago thinking, "Wait a freaking minute, I know more British indie bands than that!"

To add insult to injury, the electro-pop genius of MGMT will also be strutting their stuff on stage.

And guess what, so will the likes of some of my favourite bands The Mystery Jets, The Ting Tings and One Night Only.

Actually, all I need is Stage One; I have totally no need for the Main Stage with only The Killers striking my musical chord.

Stage One has a vast array of dark horses who can really rock the house down, notably Santogold, The Wombats, The Last Shadow Puppets, Justice, The Cajun Dance Party, and Adam Green of Moldy Peaches fame as well as the aforementioned bands.

Seriously, can life be anymore unfair?

Yeah it can, Los Campesinos! will be performing at the Festival Stage as well.

Damn the poor Malaysian ringgit in comparison to the Pound Sterling to hell.

In other less grumbling news, Cecilia (or CC) has made it to the Grand Finals for SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE MALAYSIA, so guys, please send VOTE2 to 33399.

If you've already registered for the iSummit, then good for you, I think you're in for a treat. If not, then hmm... tough luck, I think registration is closed now but there will be plenty to follow online, through the iSummit website (see link above), the icommons main community website, the research wiki (see above) and even on Second Life (for more info on how to follow the proceedings and get involved remotely  keep checking the main iSummit website. So, here goes, all the info you need in a short post, as I need to get my slides ready for Sapporo! That, and a million other things as usual, but I won't complain here, this is meant to be a joyous post after all.

The event will take place under the auspices of ISEA 2008, a huge digital arts event and conference taking place in Singapore this year, and although the conference is for registered participants only, the CC launch (and the ensuing panel on copyright) will be open to the public. Just come to the ADM School at NTU and you will be guided from there, to find the exact venue. I do not know for sure which room the event will take place in and what the capacity will be, so if you want to get a seat it might be wise to come a bit early. 

More specifically, the launch of the Singapore CC licensing suite will take place at 1.30 to 1.45 pm, and will be graced by the presence of Creative Commons father (and for all who know him, an awesome speaker), Lawrence Lessig. The launch will be followed by a panel on Copyright and the Creative Commons, organized by CAPTEL and the CC Singapore team (which includes yours truly). The panel will end at 3:15 pm, at which point we will have to leave the premises probably as the rest of ISEA is, as I already mentioned, not open to the public (unless you have a ticket). Lessig will give a keynote later in the day for the ISEA conference, but to attend that you would need to have a ticket for the day for ISEA - you may be able to get one from their website if you want to get more Lessig (and I'm told the entire ISEA conference will be extremely interesting, so it's probably worth it anyhow.

A site of considerable charm and quiet beauty. It is peacefully situated in the centre of rural Mid Wales on the banks of the River Wye with glorious views of the surrounding hills. For those who love bird watching, a wide variety of species including the Red Kite can be seen in the area. For walkers and cyclists this is an unspoilt and quiet part of Wales with many way-marked trails and secluded country lanes. The Wye Valley walk and the national cycle route 8 are both within ¾m of the site. Anglers can enjoy peace and tranquillity with fishing available locally as well as lakes and reservoirs nearby. Llandrindod Wells holds its Victorian Festival each August. The  Royal Welsh Agricultural Show takes place at Builth Wells each July. Surprisingly rural, in the shadow of an old chapel and with a pleasant open aspect, yet convenient for the motorways (M1, M6 and M42), Birmingham and the National Exhibition Centre. The Transport Museum (open weekends, Bank Holidays Easter-October) is adjacent to the site and Becketts Farm Shop with restaurant is just a ten minute walk away. Its proximity to the NEC (only 13 miles away) makes it a handy base for exhibitions such as the Caravan and Boat Show and the biennial Motor Show. It's also marvellous for those with an interest in our industrial heritage for there are stacks of fascinating museums.

Right next door to the site you will find a Transport Museum where you will find some super old buses just as the buses below. This photogrpah was taken by John this website owner in 1995, many more old vehicles have been added since then and the whole site upgraded:

Then Charles kills himself soo quickly (about 5 minutes into the episode) that I really could not believe it. Its not that easy to kill the most powerful man on the planet (talking about boss wise power).

Lelouch's genius used the reflections from the some sort of material cause by the explosion from the knightmares rocket.

And Charles dies...

(Doubtful that one bullet will take him down, seriously think about it)

At this point my thoughts about what will happen next were mixed. One side of me thought that he was dead for good, and that someone else will take over his role (perhaps Schneizel). The other thought it was "just for the show".

Back to Suzaku, he behaved quiet evil in the previous episode (refrain Kallen to make her talk). However it looks like he still is on his "light", as suggested when he threw that drug away from her. From previous episode I didn't like him (I'm not going to use the word hated as it does not suit the taste), however now my thoughts about him are neutral now.

I don't know how to describe this, however for some reason I like seeing that worm V.V. in pain. (perhaps he was way to overconfident with his Geass powers). C.C. has approached him and it looks like that little kid is not immortal anymore (from the looks of it he is in emotional/physical pain. You decide). Yet he still says that he will accept the fate of immortality. (I'm not really sure whats going on in that scene, more on that later).

(What a sad shot, Im starting to have a different mind about him. *feels sad for him*)

I don't know wtf just happened, but a twist has occurred... Charles is alive!

After numerous tries by Lelouch to waste Charles, in which he fails. Charles shows him the Geass mark on his hand whilst telling that he cant be killed.

Immediatly some information is releaved that by C.C. that charles has killed V.V. by taking that Code from him (the Geass symbol on his right arm).

I have no clue wtf is going on.

Magically Charles and Lelouch appear in a room fool of Gears (Im not sure of the symbolism, however Gear is to Geass)

Finally C.C. reveal to Lelouch the details of her pact with him. She wants to stop being immortal and die. What a shame, she is very beautiful woman. And she want Charles to do it, how lame.

Skipping the not so interesting sidestories, we are shown some brief history about C.C.. She was infact just like Lulu, someone has given geass to her. The geass originator dies, and C.C. become immortal (I wouldnt mind being immortal, also may get sick of it after 1k years or so. LOL :D)

I know, I know. Your like wtf just happend, hey Im on the same ladder here. There have been way to many twists in this series. I would like to rant about that fact that Lulu hasnt used his geass much, and that it is becoming a bit common with other geass users around.

The preview for the next episode looks incredible. Cant wait.

W założeniu ma chronić przed wirusami/robakami/trojanami etc które rozpowszechniają się na pamięciach masowych (pendrive, karty pamięci etc). Będzie to programik dość prosty. Jego działanie będzie polegać na skanowaniu włożonego nośnika i sprawdzeniu czy jakieś ZUOO nie zawarło tam pliku autorun.inf. Program postara się usunąć śmiecia a także opcjonalnie spróbuje zabezpieczyć pendrive przed ponownym zarażeniem.

Programik będzie pisany w C++ w połączeniu z WinAPI czyli odpocznę na chwilę od pisania kodu wieloplatformowego i powrócę do tych strasznych funkcji i dokumentacji MSDN :P

Tak swoją drogą to mam też taki perfidny plan poeksperymentować z tworzeniem robaka który by polował na inne... no ale to może kiedyś o ile wogóle będę miał ochotę na takie eksperymenty :)

Στην γωνία του μπαρ έμοιαζα με φαντάρο κουρνιασμένο στη σκοπιά. Απέναντί μου ένα καιόμενο δάσος από αρσενικούς "Ζελέ- Κορμάρα-Σαγιονάρα" και θηλυκά "Λακ-Κορμάκι-Πεδιλάκι", αφύσικα εύθυμο, αφύσικα υγιές, χωρίς σκιές, αδιάφορο. Ήθελα να φύγω το γρηγορότερο από κεί, κάτι όμως με τραβούσε με μια έλξη ακατανίκητη και με κρατούσε καρφωμένο στο σκαμπό. Βλέμμα ήταν που όταν σηκώθηκε από την καρέκλα και άρχισε να πλησιάζει, είχες την αίσθηση πως όλο το μπαρ ήταν το βασίλειο του.

Οποιοσδήποτε έχει αγαπήσει κι έχει κάποια στιγμή "πεθάνει" από έρωτα (πράγμα τερατώδες), όταν ξαναγεννιέται δεν ξέρει ούτε από αγάπη ούτε από μίσος. Το μόνο που ξέρει είναι ν' απολαμβάνει. Κι επειδή η χαρά της απόλαυσης έχει επιτευχθεί με αφύσικο τρόπο, είναι ένα δηλητήριο που φαρμακώνει.

Ξημερώματα σύρθηκα ως το σπίτι της μάνας μου. Στο υπνοδωμάτιό της έκλεισα την τηλεόραση που ακόμα έπαιζε μπροστά από τα κοιμισμένα της πόδια. I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I’m ready to talk about it. I have something to say. Ahem.

You are totally going to fall in love with Ned Yost.

Wait, just hear me out... OK, I'll wait until you stop laughing. Ned Yost... Seriously, stop laughing. I have all the time... I'll just wait until you... All right, if you can’t be a grown-up about this...

You’re totally going to fall in love with Ned Yost — for several reasons, not the least of which is you’re not going to get to fall in love with any other manager for the rest of the season. When Doug
Melvin announced “We’re going for it” this year, it pretty much guaranteed Yost would continue as the manager. If they miss the playoffs, he’s done. But as long as the Brewers are playing baseball in 2008, he will be the skipper.

Before the C.C. trade, there was a considerable amount of controversy as to whether Yost would remain the manager. The Crew was playing well below their potential, and the entire city was calling for his head. Once they got back above .500, those chowderheads clammed up. And once
the team acquired Sabathia, the message was clear: this is the sorry bunch of scallywags that has been cosigned to lead us into uncharted waters.

And this cracker will be their captain. All those “Ned haters” forgot all too quickly we have a playoff team (they’re probably the same clamorers longing for the return of a certain quarterback who shall not be named in these pages). To Time Warp for a second, Ned was on the beloved 1982 World Series team — the best team ever to lose a championship. In late September of that season, he hit his only home run of the year over the Green Monster to give the Crew a 4-game lead with 5 games to play.

Last year, the team won 83 games — the most since 1992. They’re in contention every year now, but for some reason Yost never gets to share in the credit heaped on the young players, and the front office and owner who acquired them. Maybe people with feel more positive about Yost after Jeff Bridges’ sympathetic portrayal of him in the movie version.

Many people see his willingness to experiment — with batting the pitcher eighth, platooning positions and possibly rotating Seth McClung and Dave Bush based on whether the team is playing in Miller Park — as indecision, but I think it falls into the “we’re just young enough; we’re just dumb enough to win this thing” argument. You’ll always get me on board with the “young enough; dumb enough” argument — because I believe achieving any personal success for myself will be the result of naïve ambition. He’s also clearly desperate to win for his job.

There’s other reasons to like the Yoster:

— He’s a graduate of Bobby Cox University. The Atlanta Braves made the playoffs in each of the 12 seasons he was there, except for 1994 of course.
— According to Wiki’a, he um... “briefly enjoyed a second career as a taxidermist in Jackson, Mississippi in between his playing days and coaching days.” So, uh... there’s that.
— He likes to get tossed out of games. This can be entertaining, à la Cox or Lou Piniella, but he hasn’t perfected the art to that level yet. It can also backfire.

— He’s a complete jerk to the media, and treats the Brewers beat reporters like idiots. But here’s the thing: I work in the media. Beat reporters are idiots. They’re lazy and dumb, and if they were good at anything else, they would be doing that instead. Especially baseball beat writers, who complain about things like games going into extra innings so they’re actually forced to write on a tight deadline.
— He wears the uniform number 3 in honor of Dale, Sr. Apparently, he was friends with the late Intimidator, and he occasionally worked as a “re-hydration engineer” for Earnhardt at NASCAR races. That either means he was the waterboy or they drank Budweisers together after the race.
— He’s the consummate sportsman. He enjoys hunting, which may explain the taxidermy and you can find him at Cabela’s, stringing up his bow.

Since I was young, I've always been fascinated by the “(blank) 4 Pres” signs at sporting events. I'd laugh and point out to my parents the absurdity of a “Mike Holmgren for President” signs I would see on TV. As if you would you elect a mere man — or even Michael Jordan — to lead the entire free world based on his success at a game! Imagine! Then I realized politics was itself a game, a blood sport of the highest order, and I thought about the current U.S. Congress, and it didn’t seem like such an absurd idea.

That’s why I’m setting my political preferences (Obamarama, Barack your face off) aside to announce a new campaign. The Vote Brewers! movement was a success, but it was just the primary. There’s a new campaign, and it’s going to be a barnburner. Yoster selected his running mate, sight unseen, for this ticket.
