I've got a box of Shards of Alara with my name on it and I'm really excited for this release. I've only brefly started building some Shards decks and I'm happy to say that they will be interesting. I'm still not convinced that Lorwyn/Shadowmoor block isn't going to to reign in Constructed. We'll see. Please post your thoughts on that issue in the comments.

PS. Did anyone pick up the Planeswalker's Guide to Alara? Is it worth it? I'm going to have to order it from somewhere if I want to get my hands on a copy.

One Rare and a Prayer: Primalcrux
You may have enjoyed my pervious post in this category on Noblis of War (decklist here).

I built this mono green deck around Primalcrux at the same time and I was surprised at the result. See my deck list for the Primalcrux build here on Essential Magic.

At first I thought this deck would be too slow. I added the usual green mana helper as well as Wall of Roots. This deck turned out to be a super wall deck. Always being just that much bigger than the opponent's creatures keeping the game at a stand still until the big guy could drop or a creature with an evasion ability could get in for damage. I really liked playing with Overbeing of Myth. I didn't see it as often as I would have liked but it did help speed things up when I could get it on the board.

This deck was also fun in a four player chaos match. It didn't go the distance but it was a threat many times during the game.

One Rare and a Prayer is meant to build around one rare card. I would choose the rare by opening a booster pack and using that rare. This deck is build around Primalcrux. I only use cards that I currently own (or arn't being used in other decks) for these builds. It is a fun challenge to create decks around a card with a limited card pool.

A Deck For Your Consideration

I really like the mimics from Eventide. Battlegate Mimic, Nightsky Mimic, Riverfall Mimic, Shorecras

I really like the mimics from Eventide. Battlegate Mimic, Nightsky Mimic, Riverfall Mimic, Shorecrasher Mimic, and Woodlurker Mimic. My two favorite mimics are the two that gain evasion when their ability is triggered: Nightsky Mimic gains "flying" & Riverfall Mimic gains "unblockable". I believe one can make some competitive decks based around those two. Mike Flores did an article for StarcityGames based on Riverfall Mimic therefore let me take a closer look at Nightsky Mimic...

Now, one can take three different approaches with Nightsky Mimic. Mono black, mono white or a black/white concoction. Each one has it's own merits, but I like the Plains Plan and running Figure of Destiny.

Mono White Nightsky

4x Nightsky Mimic
4x Unmake
4x Stillmoon Cavalier
3x Spectral Procession
4x Edge of the Divinity
4x Nip Gwyllion
4x Restless Apparition
4x Figure of Destiny
4x Oblivion Ring
3x Voracious Hatchling

22x Plains

The idea behind the deck is to get a turn one Figure, turn two Mimic followed up by Edge of the Divinity on the Mimic and then going to town on your opponent's life total. There are twenty-six spells one can play to trigger the Mimic once it's in play and remember you do not need to resolve a W/B spell, just play it to turn Nightsky into a 4/4 flyer.

Nip Gwyllion may look like a weak inclusion, but do not underestimate a turn one Nip followed by turn two Edge of Divinity.

If one looks outside of Block or Type II then they open the deck up to Mortify, Gerrard's Verdict, Ghost Council of Orzhova, Pillory of the Sleepless, Dark Confidant and would need to run both Plains and Swamps.

Nike is continuing to drop some pretty hot shoes in the Air Force 1 Premium 07 line. In time for fall, they're releasing a brown and flannel Air Force 1. The brown with and flannel match really well together, and I'm glad they fought the urge to make the entire shoe brown-based, as the white midsole and sole create a really cool contrast with the the upper. I was a bit thrown off by the flannel at first, but that tends to happen on first glance when they use non-traditional fabrics. I remember thinking the same thing about the denim on whites, and they wound up being one of my all time favorite AF1s. Anyway, these look better and better the more I look at them. The pictures came from CaliRoots.com.

So I'm back from a little weekend trip and brought you some cute ponchos and my fav comfy boots! This was my choice for the day, a casual, comfy look, perfect for the lazy day I'm having and how cold it's getting over here! We have been witnessing a lot of poncho and 'ugg' like releases so I wanted to let you know about Ray Skin ones! Apart from being super cute and having a lot of colors and patterns to choose from, Ray Skin has at least 3 free ponchos you can choose from in case you don't feel like spending! Look for thEm! I think I started something here, since on mondays I usually talk about one or two goodies! Coincidence but apparently became a pattern for me! Last but not least, Kookie has recently released these muggy's, from the turn over flaps and tie’s on the sides, to the (red) tartan texture and the awesome attention on details, these are a little bit different from what you see around and a little more awesome, my new favs of the moment! Expect more tartan colors coming your way! <3 Uma

Amazingly, I didn't feel hungry except now. Erm.. I also didn't have heavy breakfast too and in fact, I threw some mee away.

Haha.. probably also because my stomach hv lots of gas. Too much of coffee consumption. I know that I have to stop drinking coffee but I can't. Too addicted to coffee and it's just like my addiction towards onlining. Hehehe...

Freshly Dipped Tour was a few weeks back in Sacramento and the headline act was Hieroglyphics with performances from Souls Of Mischief, Pep Love, Casual, Knobody, Musab, Tanya Morgan and Seattle's own Blue Scholars. I was Lucky enough to not have to pay the $20 to get in because of my boy Rich. Thank you! I brought my friend Spencer and Lucky and might I add: This event was at a skatepark so the event was different from anything I've attended. The music was too loud for me to stand right in front of the stage so I just stood backstage and watched each set. Geologic from Blue Scholars was chillen backstage and Janelle who is Geologic's little sister is a good friend of mine. She told me to show some Sacramento love and that's exactly what I did. I was nervous at first but I just said what's up and gave him his props. He's madd chill! Musab, Knobody, Tanya Morgan, and Blue Scholars put on a fresh show, indeed. I also ran into the beautiful, Ruby, from Ill-Literacy and Dahlak. It's a pleasure everytime.

(Hieroglyphics - Anna)

Soul's of Mischief, Pep Love, Casual, and the rest of the Hiero crew hit the stage but no sign of Del which was whack. He was the one person who I wanted to see most. Nonetheless, it was fresh! Souls ended the show with 93 Til Infinity. My friend Lucky was crushing on DJ Sabzi from Blue Scholars so she wanted to get a pic with him but we thought Blue Scholars left. I spotted Sabzi and Lucky went straight up to him and asked for the pic. Sabzi asked me to come in also but Lucky wouldn't approve. Lol.

(Souls Of Mischief - 93 Til Infinity)

I'm upset with myself... Again I didn't try to at least ask for an interview or a video shoutout from Blue Scholars, Tanya Morgan, Hiero or Souls Of Mischief and everyone of them were in front of me. Even if their answer was no at least I asked. I let my nerves get the best of me and I blank out. Sigh... I'm just venting but enjoy the pics and the videos. Peace.

She also competed for several other American companies, such as Heartland Wrestling Association in Cincinnati, Ohio, and IWA East Coast in Charleston, West Virginia.

In January 2006, Portia took part in her first international tour, spending four weeks in Ireland's Irish Whip Wrestling and England's All Star Wrestling.

SLink-y

Siddean Munro of SLink, has been a very busy lady, leaps and bounds she has totally built her store from a small walk in to a plaza like Main Store with a lovely waterside location. Some of her latest and not so New items are what I will be showing today, in this Coat extravaganza.

The first coats are the Suede Coats in Hot Pink and Baby Pink. The idea of this much suede coating your body,to me is bliss, honestly I'd be turned on all day :P. I have tinted the buckle on the belt today, just because when accessorising with the NEW Classic O Frame and Milan Sunglasses also by SLink I wanted to match, but the original texture is a divine pearl which is just beautiful.

The Suede Coats are beautifully crafted and are able to be worn on their own in a dress style because of the lovely above knee length, perfect to show off the up and coming boots for the season, but today I went with the charming Paige Pumps, I did a bit of shopping at SLink in preparation for this post, and just adore the shoes and boots I picked up. The soft shine to the leather in these shoes is beautiful and picks up the similar effect in the Fantastic Tote Bags also a recent release, and shown here in the pink and hot pink.

The whole place is easy to navigate around, and one section flows into another, just like the water surrounding and below, it's very harmonious. The Hair in the pics is from Philotic Energy and I have to say the one on the right , named Luth is just one of those 'perfect cut' kinds of styles that short hair wearers dream about, and go all nutso when they find a skilled Hairdresser who can do it.

This experience comes from my Mum who seriously squeels like a ten year old when she gets a good haircut, and my Mummy does NOT Squeel under normal circumstances, in RL she traumatised me as a kid by cutting off all her long hair and coming to pick me up, I slammed the door on her thinking it was a boy lol, so I don't do short in RL , but I have to admit I love it in Phils Place, but don't tell her.

Luth is very smart and elegant, perfect for business or pleasure, the other style which is fun and playful is the Kalia style also from Philotic Energy-as is all todays hair. Both styles work with this Coat look, and if you turn the corner from the shoes section at SLink into the clothing and look up to the left, there are beautiful items there that you could wear underneath ;), mind you if you do mix lingerie with suede, I don't know if you will be able to do much with your day lol.

When Siddean dropped the New Reloaded Leather Coats on me, I Instantly unpacked one, even though I was in the middle of helping Mel with some scripting, it's his Birthday today by the way HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEL ♥ ♥ , ok sorry had to do that.

So anyway I was helping him with some stuff and put on the coat while I was, and you know that moment when prims don't attach, well I had that moment, and got so excited, that once they did attach and I exclaimed love, I ripped them back off again and pranced around in just the jacket layer and top atttachments. Later that day I was tp'd over to the Persona GO , and changed into something from Persona, and sure enough I TPd in Efe and lol she was wearing the Reloaded Jacket Layer over pants, since then Juicy has also blogged it that way, so its a definite two looks kind of coat.

So today I wanted to recreate the look, with some additions, I went shopping crazy in a store called Fifferling last week, and bought the most adorable Tails and Ears and OMG you should see the boots with the claws and footprints OMG the pink ones with - nah I'll show you soon :P or you might get your hands on them before then, but they are aces. The PRINCESS PUSCHEL & PRINCESS EARS , are sold seperately, and are scripted to move, but its also the awesome prim work attachments, again you should see my pink ones SOOOO much love.

What I do love about these too is that you can turn the swish off and on, with just a click , but if you leave them on when you log in and out they stay on or off, which is good.

Wearing with them and the Reloaded Leather Coat without skirt attached, are the square toed Sara boots, again lovely work from SLink in an assortment of great leather colours. I am wearing underneath the Bombshell Hotpants from Awesome Designs, these are soooooo Old I think I got them my first month in world, and wore them all the time, they make fantastic go to Hotpants for sure, as they are just simply textured so fit in with most everything you would need them for.

Also for a bit of extra sexy are the Fishnet Pantyhose from N°9 Nylons, they have such a huge assortment of great stockings and pantyhose over there , and I love the large net in these ones for this look.

The hair was Aem's choice actually , I told her I needed some Domme style hair - you know hair with attitude :o) . So the Orana was her choice and fits perfectly as she didn't actually know what it was going with, with the addition of the Essentia Geisha Hair Sticks in Silver, the style sits perfectly above the divine collar of the coat, with again a stunning Pearl buckle.

The Reloaded Leather Coat has so many wonderful parts to it, as in the technique of the creation itself. The floor length is fantastic again wearing it more as a complete look, than just a coat. But with the incredible leather stitching and that sexy as hell cutout, you really will want to find many ways to wear it.

One such way is with again using only the jacket layer, and the addition of the belt from the Winter coat also from SLink - Siddean does plan to do more colours and sell the belts seperately soon. Over the top of the yummy Skinny Leg Jeans , the shading and detailing on these are also amazing , look how cute my bum is lol. Also wearing with them the Claire Wedge Boots I am ready to tackle the day ahead, stylishly ;).

The hair on the left is another fun and messy shortish style called Gilly, more hair of tude as well as on the far right the Push style, a more asymetrical look pinned back with a clip I again tinted, I love tinting lol. Definitely all fab hair for these looks, go grab some Philotic Energy DEMOS.

Now the skins you see today are also from SLink and are all the Isabella skins, such beautiful tones and make-ups on these lovely skins, so be sure to grab the DEMOS of those too. SLInk is definitely a one stop shop for many of your needs, so make sure you take the time to visit, also if you join the inworld group I did notice there is a Discount option when buying items for Group members, so look into that as well.

All the poses today are from Reel Expressions, I've assumed the hair called Luth was named after Luth of Reel Expressions and if not either way, the poses are fab, so check them out too.

Always all poses I use the slurls to their stores are on the bottom of each post, I show them all at once every time, that way you always have a great assortment to visit.

Slurls to teleport to stores shown can be found HERE (click on name of store and it will open a Slurl Page for you)

There are many reasons why I should never even consider touching Big Nose ever again. So many. And I keep forgetting them all from time to time. The list keeps growing, too, and still I forget.

Back when we were sleeping together and then broke it off, I told him about my men issues. I told him about Dad and how I believe him leaving when I was so young created some serious emotional blockage for me, why it makes me fall for men who aren't really going to stick around, why I place such meaning to winning their affection, why it hurts so much when I realize I can't. Three years later he asks me over to his place and he asks me, as a "friend", "so how's your Dad?". I filled him in on the latter developments about Dad's messed up life, and saw him grimmace a little at the similarities between Dad's breaking-up-and-getting-back-together-and-then-breaking-up-again debacle and his own. But really, why did he ask? Why, since he knows I rarely even see Dad? Why was he putting his finger there? Is he much more purposeful and manipulative than I ever wanted to believe him to be?

That night, three years later we stopped sleeping with each other, was filled with questions and suppositions that shouldn't have been. "How many guys have you dated since me?", "I don't feel guilty about us because you were the one going after me", "I don't want a relationship right now, but some sex would be nice". Fuck you, Big Nose. Just fuck you. You're too much of a wimp to proposition a sexual arranjement to me, so you try to get me to say it for you, so you can allow yourself not to feel guilty about it.

And yet I manage to forget about this and fervourously wish to be in his bed. Not for another try at winning him over - so I keep telling myself - but because the sex was so unbelievably intense. Jesus fuck, good sex makes me dumb.

Kitsilano Sushi
3105 West Broadway
Vancouver, BC
Tel: (604) 737 0181

In my ongoing quest to explore, document and capture visually the Canadian west coast food scene, I rely on a myriad of methods. For instance, simple random stops alone when I spot a new location while walking or driving around town, listening to recommendations/suggestions from others that I personally know, reading informative online sources introducing places I've never heard of from people I've never met, and probably the most enjoyable, an invitation from friends/acquaintances to join in on a group meal. With such a diverse system, you can imagine it is quite the shotgun approach; and just like Forrest said about his box of chocolates, "you never know what you're gonna get".

On a recent rainy evening (no surprise for Vancouver in the fall), I had the pleasure of dining out with my friends who have a young family, including two little boys aged four and one. It seems the children are fans of rice and in particular sushi rolls, so we headed out in search of a kid-friendly, Japanese food serving establishment in Kitsilano. This part of Vancouver is probably known as a neighborhood with a good concentration of restaurants across a spectrum of cuisines from around the world. There are still many I have yet to try and given the boom-and-bust cycle of the restaurant business, I am sure there will be some that I will never get to eat at before they disappear into the restaurant cornfield of dreams.

We settled on Kitsilano Sushi - I know, not a very inventive name but it served as a bright beacon for us as we scanned the streets for something that met our needs in terms of location and the food being served. Unknown to me, it was a very popular place for dinner, judging from the mostly full dining area as well as a line up at least five people deep who were either placing takeout orders or waiting to pick them up. There were at least four people behind the sushi counter, which you see immediately upon entering the front entrance, as well as some staff whose main role appeared to be shuffling between the kitchen and tables, but with a lower emphasis on paying attention to the immediate needs of eating customers. Either they are in need of more bodies to man the fort, or feel that service should just be about bringing things to tables and clearing empty dishes away. Friendly, personal attention is not to be expected here - think more cafeteria service.

Personally, I am not a fan of maki (roll) sushi. But for many Canadians and young children, I know its quite popular. Maybe with parents, as it seems to be easier for their little ones to eat and rolls enable them to get some vegetable-based nutrients into them as well, it makes for a common selection. The dreaded Dynamite Roll that we ordered, played right into my argument that maki do not often make for good eats. For just minutes after we had placed our first round of sharing orders, two rolls of this were delivered to our table. This shocked us, as it was going to be obvious that these had been made in advance, thus the prawn tempura inside would be cold and the outer crispy layer would be a oily, and soggy disappointment. This was indeed the case.

The Alaska Roll (salmon, artificial crab, cucumber and avocado) was slightly better in terms of taste. Though they did skimp out heavily on the outer dredging with Masago. The rice, as with the earlier Dynamite Roll, was again overly soft for my personal liking. Combined with the pressing needed to make the maki, it just made the rice seem more mushy than it should be.

The Assorted Nigiri set was just average, not much to comment on here. Nothing had a hint of fish-gone-bad though, so passed on that front. I think the high turnover they have here, would help in that regard, no matter what the quality of their ingredient may be.

The boys loved the Assorted Tempura. Not to let this review have to depend on the preferences/pallates of those under four feet tall, I must include that it was not up to my favored standard. The exterior batter was too thick, and deep fried in too hot of an oil - reminded me of the kind of deep fried veggies you get in a run-of-the-mill Chinese buffet. I continue to find it difficult to find a really well done, light but still crispy tempura in Vancouver on a consistent basis. The only exception being the yam tempura that I had at Octopus Garden. They know how to do it right there in my opinion.

For quick, basic, and convenient (for take out) maki sushi, Kitsilano Sushi is a safe call and the price is definitely right and very affordable, which makes it the McDonald's of Sushi on this road. Though I will not purposely go back as price is not a real huge factor for me when I am craving quality sushi. The previously reviewed Sai-z that sits across the street, is on the opposite end of the cost spectrum. That said, they make an interesting combination in such close proximity, with each carving out a niche and clientele base that seemingly supports both of their businesses.

This company is an official manufacturer for the US Military. They offer uniform shoes and boots. Some of the men's boots could probably be worn for dress.

When I lived in Florida in the early 90's I bought a pair of sandals from the Key West Sandal Factory. They make them right there. As I recall, they made them, we bought them, we put them on, we walked out. I think it is time I ordered another pair. ;-)

Hi, my name is Rich and I play magic both casually and competitively in Columbus Ohio. My friend Norm invited me to share my thoughts and experiences on his Casual Magic blog once or twice a week. I have played Magic since Onslaught Block, my friends introduced me to both MtG and Poker during my freshman year at The Ohio State University and I've enjoyed both immensely. I feel MtG is, with its blend of poker and chess, one of the most mentally challenging games on the market. I'm no professional Magic player and I'm no professional writer but I have lots of fun playing this game I hope you do too.

I enjoy the limited formats of Magic the most: drafting, sealed, pack wars and Cubing. I play constructed as well but only when there's no drafting to be done. My favorite creature is Exalted Angel, my favorite fomat is Team Drafting and my favorite color is Counterspell.

I'm really excited to write this post for two reasons.

1. This is officially my 200th post on Casual Magic! While that may not seem like a big deal, to me, it is for a few reasons. First and foremost I started this blog as an experiment for self and hobby. I don't consider myself an expert on Magic: the Gathering, but I do have a passion for the game and I enjoy writing and sharing. So When I started this blog back in February I didn't know if I would be able to sustain it or if people would even care to read it. Here is where I share a few stats with you. Over the past two months I've had over 20,000 hits per month on this blog. That is over 40,000 hits in August and September combined. Not bad for a little experiment. I have to thank you the reader for making this site such a success, watching the daily comments and traffic keeps me motivated and on the ball. I also need to give WordPress some props here because their network helps you find me and keeps Casual Magic in the red zone.

2. I'd like to let you all know that I've invited a second author to Casual Magic, Rich. I'm really excited to have a second author and I think Rich is going to be a great addition to the site. Currently he is living in Columbus, OH where there is a very healthy and competitive magic community. He plays in different formats
than myself (including EDH) so I think that you guys will benefit from his experience.

This weekend Rich is playing in the PTQ in Columbus. Where the format is Shards of Alara sealed deck. I'm sure he'll be sharing his experience and thoughts after the competition and with a little luck bring home an invite.

So stay tuned for more Shards of Alara coverage and Casual Magic that you've come to enjoy!

Beauty Avatar (if you don't know already) is an ambitious project, providing you all with everything you'd need to find/have in just one place. From skins to jewelry, lingerie, shoes, clothes for both men and women and it's doing it big! Omnia Oh was kind enough to provide me with some of my choices in their clothes department and I was happy to put a couple of outfits together. They have a wide range of clothes (and colors) from dressy to casual and they're doing it with a close attention to detail and striving to achieve perfection. I have to say I personally admire their work on the skirts and clothes textures. Both wonderfully done! All of what you see here (apart from the scarves/hair and skin) is from Beauty Avatar. When you have a wide range of clothes (and colors) you can choose from, what else could be more fun than to mix them together and pull your own favorite/personal look? Here are some of my favorite pieces, fall never looked so perfect! <3 Uma
