Come stiamo vedendo, il periodo tra il XVI e il XVII secolo è attraversato da una crisi cultural]]></description>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Come stiamo vedendo, il <span style="color:#ff6600;">periodo tra il XVI e il XVII secolo</span> è attraversato da una <span style="color:#ff6600;">crisi culturale profonda</span>, tanto <span style="color:#ff6600;">ontologica</span> quanto <span style="color:#ff6600;">esistenziale</span>. Potremmo servirci delle parole di <span style="color:#ff6600;">Shakespeare</span>, "Nothing that is so, is so" (da <em><a href="http://www.liberliber.it/biblioteca/s/shakespeare/la_dodicesima_notte/pdf/dodice_p.pdf">La dodicesima notte</a></em>, IV, 1) e "I am not what I am" (dall'<em><a href="http://www.liberliber.it/biblioteca/s/shakespeare/otello/pdf/otello_p.pdf">Otello</a></em>, I, 1) per caratterizzare questi due aspetti. Se la prima frase, infatti, possiamo riferirla alla crisi che investe tutto ciò che circonda l'uomo e che può essere da lui esperito (natura, società), la seconda possiamo riferirla allo stesso uomo, che incarna e rispecchia in se stesso tutti i dubbi critici dell'epoca.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Il giro è stato lungo. Proviamo a fare il punto della situazione:</p>

<p>Decretazione senza quartiere. In tutti i campi. Perché «soltanto attraverso i decreti legge è possibile il cambiamento». Non è la prima volta che il premier lo dice, anzi. Ma ieri sera, concludendo la festa del Popolo della libertà in corso a Milano, <strong>Silvio Berlusconi</strong> è apparso più determinato che mai. E anzi, ha annunciato che adotterà <strong>la procedura d'urgenza anche per sanzionare i graffitari,</strong> coloro che devastano il volto delle città armati di bombolette spray. «Non è possibile — ha tuonato il premier — che ancora ci siano certi comportamenti: sporcare i luoghi pubblici deve diventare un reato. Sull'argomento presenterò un ddl al prossimo Consiglio dei ministri di venerdì a Napoli». Il premier sembra fermarsi e invece riprende indignato: «Bisogna farla finita con i cosiddetti graffiti perché in alcune nostre città non sembra di stare in Europa ma in Africa».</p>
<p>Vittorio Sgarbi, da Salemi, coglie la palla al balzo. A suo tempo, aveva organizzato a Milano una mostra assai discussa proprio sulla <strong>street art</strong>: «Va bene il decreto — esordisce —, purché Berlusconi lo faccia scrivere a me». Il critico-sindaco passa a descrivere l'ossatura del provvedimento: «Primo: tutti i palazzi costruiti fino al 1960 sono edifici che non devono in alcun modo essere sfiorati. Massima severità». Punto due? «Quelli degli anni successivi rappresentano l'Italia deturpata dalla speculazione economica ed edilizia. In questo caso, l'intervento dei graffitisti rende gradevole persino ciò che è il frutto di quella stagione». E dunque, le amministrazioni dovrebbero stipulare con i graffitisti una sorta di concordato: «Pagarli per bonificare i luoghi dell'orrore suburbano. Luoghi che non possono che migliorare». Sgarbi cita Basquiat e Keith Haring, ricorda che anche loro «provenivano dalla strada». E conclude con questa immagine: «Il taglio su una tela bianca, è Fontana. Se invece il taglio lo faccio su un Caravaggio, è una follia e un crimine».</p>
<p>A stretto giro, arriva anche la risposta di Filippo Penati, il presidente della Provincia di Milano eletto dal centrosinistra: «Le iniziative per tenere in ordine la città vanno tutte bene, e non sarò certo io a dire che non servono. Eppure, continuiamo a vedere un atteggiamento schizofrenico: il ministro dell'Interno Maroni non fa che ribadire la necessità di assegnare più poteri ai sindaci. Oggi, scopriamo che anche su un argomento che è assolutamente da sindaci e comunque da amministratori locali, il governo si metterà a decretare». Ma Filippo Penati ha qualcosa d'altro sullo stomaco: «E poi, francamente, a Milano avremmo sperato che il premier arrivasse con il decreto per l'Expo firmato». Ma alla serata finale della festa pdl c'è anche <strong>Fabrizio De Pasquale</strong>, che è il presidente <strong>dell'associazione nazionale anti graffiti</strong>. Il quale, naturalmente, esulta: «Come avevamo già avuto modo di constatare, il presidente Berlusconi sembra aver preso di petto la questione». Secondo De Pasquale, «i graffiti producono un danno economico imponente. Secondo una stima per difetto, per ripulire tutti i graffiti dagli edifici italiani sarebbero necessari non meno di 750 milioni di euro». Ma già così, tags e scarabocchi costano «alle amministrazioni pubbliche e alle municipalizzate all'incirca 80 milioni di euro l'anno». Il peggio, secondo De Pasquale, è che tanto danno viene prodotto «da una ridottissima minoranza di persone. Che fino a questo momento hanno potuto tuttavia contare su un'assoluta impunità».</p>

<p>Il 30 settembre del 1571 Michelangelo Merisi veniva battezzato nella chiesa di Santo Stefano in Brolo a Milano. Era nato il giorno prima, festa degli Arcangeli, e per questo venne chiamato da papà Fermo e mamma Lucia (la Lombardia è tutta nella persistenza di certi nomi!) Michelangelo. <p><img src="http://www.sfmission.com/gallery_files/site_pics/Malta/Art_and_History/Caravaggio/caravaggio-self.jpg" alt="" width="175" height="201" />Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, usually just known as Caravaggio, (28 September 1571 – 18 July 1610) was an Italian artist active in Rome, Naples, Malta and Sicily between 1593 and 1610. He is considered the first great representative of the Baroque school of painting.</p>
<p>Even in his own lifetime Caravaggio was considered enigmatic, fascinating, rebellious and dangerous. He burst upon the Rome art scene in 1600, and thereafter never lacked for commissions or patrons, yet he handled his success atrociously. An early published notice on him, dating from 1604 and describing his lifestyle some three years previously, tells how "after a fortnight's work he will swagger about for a month or two with a sword at his side and a servant following him, from one ball-court to the next, ever ready to engage in a fight or an argument, so that it is most awkward to get along with him."[1] In 1606 he killed a young man in a brawl and fled from Rome with a price on his head. In Malta in 1608 he was involved in another brawl, and yet another in Naples in 1609, possibly a deliberate attempt on his life by unidentified enemies. By the next year, after a relatively brief career, he was dead.</p>
<p>Huge new churches and palazzi were being built in Rome in the decades of the late 16th and early 17th Centuries, and paintings were needed to fill them. The Counter-Reformation Church searched for authentic religious art with which to counter the threat of Protestantism, and for this task the artificial conventions of Mannerism, which had ruled art for almost a century, no longer seemed adequate. Caravaggio's novelty was a radical naturalism which combined close physical observation with a dramatic, even theatrical, approach to chiaroscuro, the use of light and shadow.</p>
<p>Famous and extremely influential while he lived, Caravaggio was almost entirely forgotten in the centuries after his death, and it was only in the 20th century that his importance to the development of Western art was rediscovered. Yet despite this his influence on the new Baroque style which eventually emerged from the ruins of Mannerism, was profound. Andre Berne-Joffroy, Paul Valéry's secretary, said of him: "What begins in the work of Caravaggio is, quite simply, modern painting."[2] And in the years following his death, he was more imitated by other artists than any other master for whom we have record as documented by the art historian Benedict Nicolson. Caravaggio's influence can be seen directly or indirectly to Rubens, Jusepe de Ribera, Bernini, and Rembrandt. Artists in the following generation heavily under the influence of Caravaggio are referred to as the "Caravaggisti", "Caravagesques", and also as Tenebrists or "Tenebrosi".</p>

Oltre ai soliti irriducibili lettori, ai soliti cortesi frequentatori occasionali, ed ai soliti naviganti alla deriva, è stato tutto merito di <a href="http://massim.wordpress.com/2008/02/18/caravaggio-e-il-delitto-della-pallacorda/" target="_blank">questo vecchio post </a>su Caravaggio.<br />
Mah!<br />
Analizzando incuriosito le statistiche, ho tirato un sospiro di sollievo: almeno questa volta non sono arrivati tutti qui per leggere il post sulle vignette di Brunetta... <span style="color:#999999;">accidenti a me e quando l'ho scritto</span>.<br />
Perchè mai, oltre 400 volenterosi si siano svegliati solo ieri con la voglia di leggere di quel geniale mascalzone del Merisi e del "delitto della pallacorda" proprio qui sul mio blog, non mi è dato sapere.<br />
Però, posso sempre illudermi che siano stati attratti dalla nuova, irresistibile testata ;-) :</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p style="text-align:justify;">Conheci o trabalho de <strong><span style="color:#003366;">Piotr Kowalik</span></strong> (n. Lublin, Polónia) na capa dupla da <a href="http://www.periferica.org/" target="_blank"><strong><span style="color:#003366;">Periférica</span></strong> <span style="color:#333399;">(nº 13, primavera de 2005)</span></a>, penúltima edição de uma revista de boa memória. A impressão que me causou foi tremenda, acentuada pela visita ao <em>site</em> do fotógrafo e por troca de imagens e impressões com amigos (actualmente os seus melhores trabalhos podem ser vistos <a href="http://photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=229162" target="_blank"><span style="color:#333399;">noutros lugares</span></a>). As séries <em>The Cross We Choose to Bare (</em>da qual faz parte esta magnífica <em>'Pietà'</em>) e <em>Hope</em> evocam no plano formal a pintura de <a href="www.caravaggio.com/"><span style="color:#003366;"><strong>Caravaggio</strong></span></a> e a sua intensa carga dramática, obtida por uma paleta cromática fulgurante, e por um jogo único entre o claro/escuro. Também no domínio da composição se entreviam pontes delicadas. Fiquei admirador. <strong>Hoje está bastante comprometido com trabalhos de 'encomenda'. Em perda criativa. Ora uma coisa não teria de levar à outra.</strong></p>

<title><![CDATA[Vastità americane]]></title>

Vista in agosto la mostra di James Turrell a Villa Panza a Varese. Tutta costruita per spiegare l]]></description>

<p>Vista in agosto la mostra di James Turrell a Villa Panza a Varese. Tutta costruita per spiegare l'immenso progetto del Roden Crater, presso Flagstaff in Arizona. Dal punto di vista della sensibilità è distante anni luce, perché di uno spiritualismo senza più corpo. Ma alcune ammissioni è giusto farle.</p>
<p><strong>Punto primo.</strong> Fa impressione riscontrare come l'arte americana abbia ereditato la vocazione a pensare in grande. In America esplodono le dimensioni, non solo per esibizionismo, ma per un bisogno di “andare oltre“ connaturato all'opera. Ha cominciato Pollock, gli altri sono andati dietro. L'arte non è più un giochino, esorbita, esce dalle misure. Nessuno nel 900 in Europa ha spinto in questa direzione. Eppure nella storia europea l'andare oltre la misura è stata una spinta sempre presente: pensa all'enormità della Sistina, ai metri di tela nera sopra gli ultimi Caravaggio, alla forza centrifuga della scultura di Bernini. Ma anche alle galoppate di Tiepolo... O agli esorbitanti crocifissi di Cimabue. Ora questa eredità sembra tutta americana. Turrell prende un cratere nel desero e ci costruisce nei decenni la sua opera (nella foto Akpha space. Lo skyspace).</p>
<p><strong>Punto secondo.</strong> L'arte americana si misura sistematicamente con l'assoluto. Non è di tutti, ma accade con una frequenza che fa impressione. E' un assoluto disincarnato, senza volto: ma questa è caratteristica americana o è non è invece perché l'uomo ha perso la grammatica dell'assoluto? Non sa più dargi nome e faccia (come del resto aveva detto Péguy)? L'arte americana ci dice che oggi il sacro è aniconico (Dan Flavin alla Chiesa Rossa di Milano). Che chi lo vuole rappresentare cade sistematicamente nell'illustrazione patetica. Le Corbu a La Tourette mette solo uncrocifisso minimo sull'immensa parete bianche. Il resto è solo luce. C'est tout. E Matisse è più evocativo nei papier decoupèe che nella Via Crucis di Saint Paul de Vence.</p>
<p>A proposito. A Londra viene ricomposto il ciclo Seagram di Rothko. Immensità, più assoluto (anche se nero). Ma Rothko in più ha anche il senso (a volte colossale) della struttura. Ha ancora un corpo. Per questo è il più grande.</p>

<title><![CDATA[A Salemi proiezione del restaurato "Ladri di biciclette"]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Vittorio Sgarbi</strong> è molto orgoglioso del suo ruolo di <strong>sindaco colto ed eccentrico</strong> di una cittadina siciliana finora ignorata dai più e, riferisce "Il Velino", parla con fierezza della preparazione di quella che egli considera, fra le sue imprese recenti, la trovata più interessante: quel <strong>gemellaggio Venezia-Salemi</strong> che fra pochi giorni, <strong>il 21 e il 22 settembre</strong>, avrà il suo momento clou con la <strong>proiezione a Salemi della copia restaurata di “Ladri di biciclette”, il capolavoro di Vittorio De Sica, già presentata a Venezia durante l’ultima mostra del cinema</strong>.</p>
<p>All' evento <strong>Sgarbi ha invitato il ministro dei Beni culturali Sandro Bondi</strong>. “Spero che venga – dice il sindaco di Salemi – perché si è dimostrato molto più curioso e disponibile di tanti intellettuali di sinistra di cui non faccio il nome. Inoltre ho <strong>invitato anche Manuel de Sica</strong>, il primogenito di Vittorio, che è anche il vero custode della memoria del padre”.</p>
<p>Sgarbi esprime poi il desiderio di <strong>ritrovare ed esporre a Salemi</strong> “<strong>L'adorazione dei pastori</strong>” di <strong>Caravaggio</strong>, un quadro che fu rubato in una chiesa di Palermo quarant’anni fa e che <strong>si dice si trovi nella disponibilità di qualche “mafioso”</strong>.</p>
<p>E a proposito di "<strong>mafia</strong>" Sgarbi intende realizzare un “museo della mafia” a partire dalla considerazione che la mafia è finita e conviene considerarla, quindi, un "<strong>fenomeno da museo</strong>”.</p>
<p><strong>Esperti</strong> del settore  delle cose d’arte e di Sicilia <strong>ritengono</strong> tuttavia <strong>che la mafia non è affatto finita </strong>e che Vittorio Sgarbi, prima di dedicare un museo alla mafia, potrebbe dedicarsi alla valorizzazione del magnifico “San Giuliano” del Laurana conservato nel museo di Salemi e sconosciuto ai più.</p>

<p>The <strong>Wyer Gallery</strong> is a small oasis of throat-grabbing contemporary art in the midst of the ordinary streets of ‘Clarm’, South London, famous for Sloane-starter-families, Australians and ASDA.<br />
Past exhibitions include a line up of forward-looking artists such as the brilliant <strong>Richard Galloway</strong>.</p>
<p>Hung side by side in this exhibition is the work of two stylistically diverse female oil painters. One scandalous, one monumental but feminine.</p>
<p>The Scandal comes in the form of <strong>Elinor Evans</strong>’ bold subject matter in her series of scantily clad, masked women posing with various animals. A ‘harem’ consisting of a horse, a Dalmatian, a cat and naked women.<br />
Bestiality is a word that hangs in the air. Anyone watch that documentary where the man married his donkey?<br />
And yet the crudeness of it all seems to be blurred by the thick brush strokes and stylized painting technique.</p>
<p>Behind the Scandal is a well thought out series of references that go back (n.b. read in a deep voice) through the canons of Art History.<br />
For instance masks – the ultimate barrier between the viewer and the painter, putting you at a tasteful distance. Also refers to <strong>Picasso</strong> and further to <strong>primitive art</strong>.<br />
Then there’s the difference between the acceptable nude with no clothing (apart from perhaps drapery) and the cheap prostitute championed by <strong>Renoir'</strong>s Olympia. High heels and knickers and a pose of a page-3 girl equal good old-fashioned prossy.<br />
Then there’s <em>Demoiselles d’avignon</em>, again Picasso, the Harem idea, the stylized angular figures of the women, the thick brush work, the flat uncomplicated backgrounds.<br />
And even going back further, the use of the horse – any equestrian portrait, the black theatrical backgrounds – <strong>Caravaggio</strong>. What a feast of historical legacy.<br />
All of this makes the paintings somehow actually quite tasteful. (Possibly).</p>
<p><strong>Christine Aerfeldt</strong> is a contrast in her fluid painting style and her living, breathing portraiture. Huge therapeutic portraits of women either knitting or ironing framed in miniature landscapes in turmoil, a thundery sea, an avalanche a forest fire. They seem to be at the center of this activity, like Greek gods (Poseidon in the sea for instance) moving with the nature around them. They do not repel ‘women’s work’ they are not 70’s feminists, it seems they are quite content in their actions. They are possibly at one with the earth, themselves, their femininity etc etc?<br />
Unlike Evans’ work these paintings are open questions rather than being a code or hook pulling you back into references from bygone art, although allusions to 17th Century Dutch domestic images are there. You are not searching for answers so much. It is the emphasized use of modern clothes and jewellery, the fact the women are young, that they are full of movement and the landscape around them is active, that gives a feeling of vitality. What is depicted is the aura of these women, a confident aura as they are the commanding force over the land that surrounds them, and a peaceful mood in their contentment.</p>

I also had the opportunity to interview the founder and director behind the Danish lighting company, Lars Østergaard Olsen. Here is something you might not know about Light Years:</span></p>

<p style="text-align:left;">Sexta-feira, dia 5, retorno à <a href="http://www.funhouse.com.br/index.html">Funhouse</a> para tocar na festa do mestre Francisco Mitkus idealizador do projeto R-evolution. Noite que existe há muito tempo e virou uma tradição do público indie paulista. Entrarei no som das 2h10 às 3h10, portanto não tem desculpa para dizer que vou tocar muito cedo ou muito tarde.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Domingo rola a aguardada estréia da matinê dominical <a href="http://www.hotzilla.com.br/">Hotzilla</a>, da qual serei residente ao lado dos competentes Eneas Neto (Fiberonline, Trash 80´s) e Luís Depeche, que conta no currículo com trilhas dos desfiles da estilista Fabia Bercsek e o projeto de música eletrônica Suntrax. Será um alivio para o tédio de domingo, garanto.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="color:#000066;"><span style="color:#300a02;">I would love to live in a region that has an actual fall season. Autumn begins on the September equinox, which is September 22 this year. Now where I live, it might be 95 degrees Fahrenheit, or it might be 75 degrees on September 22. The same could be true on October 22 as well as November 22. I remember eating Thanksgiving dinner on the picnic table on the patio at my mother-in-law's house one year when the thermometer registered 84 degrees.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#000066;"><span style="color:#300a02;">I'm not complaining about the balmy Thanksgiving, and the mild winters are certainly nice when it comes to our heating bills. However, I would dearly love to have more than two weeks of fall, which is about all that we get of my favorite season before we go into winter. For me, autumn is days of<a href="http://poietes.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/fall-leaves.jpg"><img class="size-full wp-image-350 alignright" style="border:black 2px solid;" src="http://poietes.wordpress.com/files/2008/09/fall-leaves.jpg" alt="" width="100" height="148" /></a> crisp 50 and 60 degree temperatures, clear skies, the smells of falling leaves, the sounds of Canada geese. There is no other smell quite like the smell of fall, and the night sky in the fall is incomparable to any other sky at any other time of the year.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#000066;"><span style="color:#300a02;">I suppose I love fall so much because I have spent fall in the mountains, and it spoils you. A full season of light sweater weather before you really need an outer coat, and then bundling up at night beneath a quilt. Bonfires on the weekends. Hot chocolate. Camping outdoors before it becomes too cold to do so. Looking up at a sky so full of stars that you have a real sense of how endless the universe truly is. And then the beauty of the changing leaves-golds, ambers, and reds so intense that mother earth's palette comes alive like a magnificent Caravaggio portrait, an odd reversal of masterpieces.</span> </span><br />
<span style="color:#000066;"><span style="color:#300a02;">So perhaps you can understand my disappointment at living in an area in which people run their air conditioners well into October. Students wear shorts and flip flops everyday, and then suddenly, they are in jeans, boots, and sweaters for the duration, until the two weeks of spring before summer sets in.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="color:#300a02;">It is an odd place to live, as extreme in its weather as it is in its populace and its politics. But for all of that, I don't know that I would survive in an area that has a real winter, which is the trade off for a real fall. I like one or two snowfalls, but I hate the bitter cold. I don't think that I would like to live up north where you have to defrost your car for five minutes before you can go anywhere in the morning. I've been too spoiled by my temperate winters.</span></p>
<p><span style="color:#000066;"><span style="color:#300a02;">Ideally, I would like to live in a place that gets no colder than 50 degrees, maybe 45, and no hotter than 80. It should be near the water, and within driving distance of the mountains. Not a big city, but not a small town unless it's a college town. Do places like this even exist anywhere in the world, and if they do, can I go there with my brood in tow?</span></span></p>

<blockquote><p>Importante em toda a cinematografia de Julio Bressane, a referência da pintura clássica e seu jogo de luz e sombra é mais uma vez elemento fundamental em A Erva do Rato, o novo filme do diretor, apresentado na segunda-feira fora de competição em Veneza. "Para mim, o princípio de um filme é a luz, mesmo antes de existir o roteiro, os atores, a direção", disse Bressane, numa entrevista marcada por citações intelectuais, como costuma fazer em seus debates.</p>
<p>O cineasta explicou que neste caso há uma lembrança do pintor italiano barroco Caravaggio, habitual em seus filmes, mas principalmente do francês Édouard Manet, um pré-impressionista, e de forma específica, de seu famoso quadro Le Dejeuner sur l'Herbe.</p></blockquote>

<p><img style="width:300px;" src="http://xc8.xanga.com/215c770160331208505211/m162369485.jpg" border="2" alt="Crucifixion of Saint Peter, by Caravaggio" align="left" />My avid blogging competitor, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PZ_Myers" target="_new">PZ Myers</a>, desperately tries to take the steam out of my inexorable rise in the blogging ranks with <a href="http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2008/08/theyre_joking_right.php" target="_new">this piece</a>, about a sculpture depicting a crucified frog in an Italian modern art gallery.</p>
<p>The Pope, who is apparently some kind of weird frock-wearing Italian version of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Donohue" target="_new">Bill Donohue</a>, finds it blasphemous and <a href="http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=worldNews&#38;storyID=2008-08-28T171602Z_01_LS437208_RTRUKOC_0_US-ITALY-FROG.xml&#38;WTmodLoc=NewsArt-C2-NextArticle-2" target="_new">has asked the gallery to remove it from display</a>.  The board of the gallery voted 6-3 against removing it.  Previously Franz Pahl, the President of the regional government in <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolzano" target="_new">Bolzano</a>, where the gallery is situated, had gone on hunger strike over the sculpture and ended up in hospital.  Pahl says the frog "wounds the religious sentiments of so many people who see in the cross the symbol of God's love".</p>
<p>Ever seeking to satisfy the public thirst for cheap pictures of animal torture, the unfeeling blogger Myers has stuck up, before the fold, a picture of the offending depiction of frog torture, a  crime made all the more heinous by the fact that the depiction is clearly  exaggerated, cartoon-like, and resembles nothing so much as a child's muppet model.</p>
<p>So instead of that I've decided to display something far more tasteful.  Because this is merely a realistic depiction of an unfortunate specimen of homo sapiens plucked out of the lab and being nailed to some planks of wood shaped in a cross, this isn't at all offensive or blasphemous.</p>
<p>So sacred, indeed, that this exquisite depiction of a human execution is displayed in a chapel in Rome not far from where Herr Ratzenberger parks his Popemobile.  Mr Myers is unavailable for comment.  A spokesperson who answered his phone muttered something about <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silas_%28The_Da_Vinci_Code%29">albino ninja assassins</a> being sighted in Morris, Minnesota.</p>
<p>No images of the sacred Kermit were harmed in the production of this picture.</p>

Caravaggio se encuentra delante de su espejo, con el entrecejo fruncido y la mirada desafiante de un loco perturbado. Porta una espada en una mano y una daga en la otra. Golpea repetidas veces a un rival imaginario. Por cada golpe lanza un grito amenazador, lleno de furia. Por cada grito, su cara se perfila más grotesca aun, con más odio. Cuanto más odio acumula en su cuerpo, más furiosos son sus golpes. Este círculo repetitivo se produce una y otra vez hasta dejarle exhausto.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Ranuccio Tomassoni le ha desafiado. No abiertamente, pero él se lo ha buscado. Le ha puesto la zarpa encima a Antonieta della Rossa, amante de Caravaggio. Caravaggio, de personalidad problemática y con el orgullo gravemente herido, ha desafiado a un duelo no legal a Tomassoni cerca de las pistas de tenis de la Via della Sdrofa.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Tomassoni es conocido en toda Roma por ser un hombre de negocios. Unos negocios bastante turbios. Entre otras cosas, es el chulo de muchas de las rameras de la ciudad. Entre ellas está Antonieta. Además, es un espadachín famoso.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Por el contrario, Caravaggio es sólo un pintor. Si bien tiene a los mecenas más poderosos de su parte, de poco le servirán en el duelo.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Ha llegado la hora. Caravaggio llega el primero junto con dos amigos. Tomassoni llega junto con tres. Los dos rivales no median palabra alguna. No son necesarias. La expresión facial de Caravaggio está llena de ira y rabia, con una mirada de locura muy psicótica. Tomassoni permanece tranquilo, casi despreocupado. No es su primer duelo. Más bien, la experiencia le precede.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Con un grito de guerra, Caravaggio carga con sus armas alargando los brazos e inclinando ligeramente el cuerpo hacia delante para asestar un golpe más potente. Por su parte, Tomassoni da un simple paso hacia atrás y le esquiva como a un niño furioso.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">La balanza está muy desequilibrada. Se trata de una batalla entre la bestia contra su domador. Una bestia cegada por los celos, incapaz de pensar una táctica de combate, mientras que el domador la evita con todos sus años de práctica.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Caravaggio agarra con más fuerza sus armas, poniéndose  blancos sus nudillos, y arremete contra su contrincante repetidas veces. Tomassoni ni se despeina. Esquiva todos y cada uno de los ataques con cierta gracia, aguardando a que Caravaggio baje la guardia.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">No tiene que esperar mucho. En uno de sus golpes, Caravaggio deja su espalda desprotegida. Sin pensarlo dos veces, Tomassoni le asesta un golpe de gracia dirigido a un riñón. Para su sorpresa, Caravaggio interpone tórpemente su espada entre su espalda y el ataque letal, provocando un ruido ensordecedor al chocar los dos metales. Al siguiente movimiento, Caravaggio hunde su afilada daga en las vísceras de su enemigo.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Tomassoni cae al suelo. Todo el mundo mira expectante a Caravaggio, haciéndose un silencio sepulcral. El silencio se rompe cundo Caravaggio se da cuenta de que su contrincante no se puede levantar. Un chillido lleno de odio y de sed de sangre, propio del diablo, brota de la garganta de Caravaggio, dejando mostrar sus dientes desalineados y amarillentos, por los que salen cientos de perdigones de saliva que salpican a su víctima. Tomassoni respira angustiadamente, suplicando por su vida. Sus amigos no se atreven a intervenir.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Finalmente Caravaggio hunde su espada en el torso de Tomassoni y la saca babeante de sangre. El gesto de Caravaggio es de puro regocijo, con una mirada cruel y una sonrisa diabólica. Después de mirar en este estado a Tomassoni y a sus esbirros, se marcha junto con sus amigos.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Tomassoni es llevado a su casa, donde confiesa por última vez para limpiar su pecadora vida. Minutos después muere desangrado.</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">Caravaggio logra desaparecer gracias a sus mecenas. Por toda Roma cuelgan unos carteles con dos frases muy breves pero impactantes:</p>
<p style="line-height:14.25pt;">"Se busca a Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio por asesinato.<br />
Trae su cabeza en un cesta y serás recompensado."

It's a quarterly publication that celebrates the artists of the world "in action sports and beyond" in works with <a href="http://relentlessenergy.co.uk/" target="_blank">Relentless Energy Drink</a>.</p>

<p>The First issue has been out for a month now, very fancy looking for a free publication. The Issue among loads, features <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danger_Mouse" target="_blank">Danger Mouse</a>, skating prodigy Biyala from South Africa and a 6-paged comic on<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caravaggio" target="_blank"> Michelangelo Merisi da caravaggio</a> aka "M"</p>

Sempre fico indignada com o roubo de quadros. E fico ainda mais indignada com maneira como são]]></description>

<p class="MsoBodyText" style="text-align:justify;margin:0;">Sempre fico indignada com o <a href="http://artefatok.wordpress.com/2008/08/01/e-continuam-roubando-quadros/">roubo de quadros</a>. E fico ainda mais indignada com maneira como são achados. No último dia 15, foi encontrada a última obra que faltava do roubo da Estação Pinacoteca, dia 12 de junho, a gravura "Minotauro, bebedor e mulheres" <em>[foto]</em>, de Pablo Picasso. Sei que deveria dar pulos, mas muito me intriga como ela foi encontrada: embrulhadinha em plástico bolha e papel pardo, atrás de um eucalipto próximo a uma passarela, na rodovia Raposo Tavares. Mas que ladrões cuidadosos, não? Embrulhar direitinho para devolver a obra. “O pintor e seu modelo”, também de Pablo Picasso, estava debaixo do telhado do prédio, onde o bandido morava. Os quadros roubados, em dezembro, do Masp, foram encontrados em uma casa em Ferraz de Vasconcelos – será que esses estavam pendurados na parede da sala?</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">Mas o ladrão mais criativo foi o do roubo de  <em>Campo de Papoulas perto de Vétheuil</em> (1879), de Claude Monet, e <em>Branches de Marronier en Fleur</em> (1890), de Vincent Van Gogh, da coleção Emil Buehrle, recuperados em 19 de fevereiro. As obras estavam dentro de um carro estacionado em um hospital psiquiátrico. Bem que dizem que todo artista tem um pouco de louco - ok, não sou boa com piadas.</p>
<p style="text-align:justify;">PS: Não sei por que, mas esses saques, pelo menos os nacionais, me cheiram a golpe de marketing.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Being a bit exhausted from all the travelling around over the previous week, we spent the morning of day 7 in <strong>Malta</strong> - also our 1st wedding anniversary - relaxing by the pool at our hotel.</p>
<p>In the afternoon, we wandered in to <strong>Valletta</strong> to look around <strong>St John's Co-Cathedral</strong>, which we missed from our itinerary on our first day in Malta.</p>
<p>Wow! What an incredibly beautiful building once you get inside! The detail on the paintings and decoration all around the cathedral is incredible.</p>

<p>St John's Co-Cathedral was completed in 1577 and is dedicated to St John the Baptist, the patron saint of the Order of the Knights of St John. The side chapels are designated to the eight <em>langues</em> (divisions based on nationality) of the Order and each one is different.</p>

<p>One of the major attractions is <strong>Caravaggio's</strong> painting entitled <strong>Beheading of St John</strong>, which is a fine example of his signature <em>chiaroscuro</em> technique. The painting is enormous and also every beautiful - extremely vivid and real. No photos were allowed in the Oratory, where the painting is, so unfortunately I have no photos to share, but it is magnificent. <p>There's a lot to see inside St John's Co-Cathedral, so make sure you go early enough to allow yourself to wander around and see it all. Unfortunately, we left it a bit late in the day and had to rush. It was well worth visiting though!</p>

<p>We had a lovely day wandering around the streets and alleys of Vittoriosa, following the history of the <strong>Knights of St John</strong> via all the <em>langues</em> and <em>auberges</em>, learning about the <a title="Great Siege of Malta history" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Malta_(1565)" target="_blank">Great Siege of 1565</a>, the Inquisition in Malta, and the bombing of the Three Cities during the Second World War.</p>

<p>Vittoriosa is also where <strong>Grand Master Jean de Vallette</strong> - the founder of Valletta - was wounded in battle. You can see his sword and hat, as well as all manner of interesting ancient artefacts, books, and clothing from the time of the Knights, in the <strong>Oratory of St Joseph</strong>.</p>
<p style="text-align:left;">Vittoriosa is also home to <strong>Fort St Angelo</strong>, a fortress where the Italian renaissance artisit <strong>Caravaggio</strong> was imprisoned in 1608.</p>
