WiMAX is a wireless digital communications system, also known as IEEE 802.16, that is intended for wireless "metropolitan area networks". WiMAX can provide broadband wireless access (BWA) up to 30 miles (50 km) for fixed stations, and 3 - 10 miles (5 - 15 km) for mobile stations. In contrast, the WiFi/802.11 wireless local area network standard is limited in most cases to only 100 - 300 feet (30 - 100m).

With WiMAX, WiFi-like data rates are easily supported, but the issue of interference is lessened. WiMAX operates on both licensed and non-licensed frequencies, providing a regulated environment and viable economic model for wireless carriers.

WiMAX can be used for wireless networking in much the same way as the more common WiFi protocol. WiMAX is a second-generation protocol that allows for more efficient bandwidth use, interference avoidance, and is intended to allow higher data rates over longer distances.

The IEEE 802.16 standard defines the technical features of the communications protocol. The WiMAX Forum offers a means of testing manufacturer's equipment for compatibility, as well as an industry group dedicated to fostering the development and commercialization of the technology.

Soon, WiMAX will be a very well recognized term to describe wireless Internet access throughout the world.

Are you getting results from your business blog? Is it getting harder for you to spend time on your blog because you're just not seeing how it is going to pay off? If so, you're not alone. Hundreds of blogs are started each day and many of them are abandoned after several months because it takes time and energy to keep a good business blog going.

Make no mistake, blogs are a great tool for building community, interacting with potential clients, and marketing your services. And, it's not enough to set one up and post occasionally. You have to use it effectively to drive traffic and gain readership.

We've discovered several common mistakes professionals make with their blogs. Mostly, they aren't using some the features available to them with their blogging software, because it hasn't been sufficiently explained. Eyes glaze over with the mention of RSS, pinging, trackbacks and permalinks. Professionals may be ignoring these things, hoping they don't really need to know. But they do if they want results from their business blog.

Here's a list of what we found on a recent trip around the professional business blogosphere:

Content:

1. Not posting frequently enough. (Recommended: 2-3 times a week.)

2. Content is not focused, and the target audience is not clearly defined.

3. Posting articles that are too long, instead of using extended post features.

4. Not linking profusely (because the professional isn't researching their field on the internet).

5. Poor spelling, bad grammar and typos.

Design

6. No name of author in tag line or on side bar.

7. No author photo.

8. No signature or name in the footer; no way to tell who wrote post on a multi-author site.

9. No subscription form; no way to get blog updates through RSS or email.

10. No way for readers to leave comments and use trackbacks.

11. Too many categories or none at all.

12. No information about their business services and products.

13. Calendars for no reason at all (what is the point of those calendars anyway?).

Marketing

14. Blog isn't submitted to blog directories.

15. Not pinging each time a new post is published.

16. Not using trackbacks referring or linking to other blogs.

17. No blogroll or list of favorite blogs or websites.

If you're considering using a blog to build your business, optimize it by taking time to learn the features and steps that will ensure success. A blog is like any other marketing tool - you've got to use it correctly to get positive results.

Here are a couple of suggestions:

1. Get an ebook and take the time to learn about your blog software or hosting provider.

2. Hire a professional blog expert to coach you on how to rev up your blog.

A blog is short for weblog, which simply means a website that is updated frequently with new information and is organized by date and submission. Blogs are typically a way of journalizing information whether it be personal, business, or what have you. It's like an editorial and a journal all mixed together and available online for constant updates and submissions.

As a beginner, you probably want to know more about blogs and why people are using them.

Blogging started out when the Internet was new and the individuals who were technology savvy found it fun and entertaining to post different things they found on the web for other people to visit and enjoy. It caught on quickly and a community of blogs developed, allowing people to read other peoples blogs. As time went on, new technology was developed that allowed even the non-techie to create their own blog and join the blog culture.

Blogs are popular because they relay experiences, interesting thoughts, comments, photos, web links, and plenty of other information that people find interesting. Today, blogging is really popular and many people will send you a link to their blog so you can keep up with their experiences such as vacations, studies, pregnancies, and any other thing you can possibly think of.

What started out as a way to navigate the web and figure out all of the newness that was the Internet of the early '90s, turned into a way for people to journalize their experiences, share photos, and keep people up to date on their lives. In response to the popularity of blogs, many websites launched software and free sign-ups for blogs so anyone could have their own blog and share their experiences with the entire world.

And so, blogging has continued to grow and weblogs have multiplied into the millions. In fact, there are so many blogs on the web that you can practically become part of your own community with people worldwide, sharing your life, experiences, and thoughts with people you would never have met. Blogs truly are linking people together and they are an amazing phenomenon.

If you are interested in blogging, all you have to do is join one of the many blog websites that will allow you to set up your own account and have your own blog space on the web, giving you a personal space to share photos, experiences, stories, links, and basically anything else that you care to share. Many people even find that writing blogs are excellent stress relievers and quite cathartic, so you might receive some additional benefits from your blog than just the joy of sharing your personal information. Go online today and find a blog website where you can set up an account and get started!

It’s fair to say that blogging has taken the Internet by storm over recent years. And it

It's fair to say that blogging has taken the Internet by storm over recent years. And it's no surprise that today there are hundreds of thousands of new blogs being launched every day.

But as a home-based business owner, should I have a blog?

To put it bluntly, if you conduct any part of your business over the internet, then Yes, you should have a blog.

So what is a blog?

Wikepedia describe a blog as ..... a weblog (usually shortened to blog) is a web-based publication consisting primarily of periodic articles (normally in reverse chronological order). Although most early weblogs were manually updated, tools to automate the maintenance of such sites made them accessible to a much larger population, and the use of some sort of browser-based software is now a typical aspect of "blogging".

You might be thinking that to set up a blog is far too advanced for me, but that is furtherest from the truth. Blogger.com is a Google-owned hosted blogging platform that is 100% free to use and literally takes only minutes to set up and start posting.

Secondly, you might be thinking it's going to cost too much. Wrong! The only cost is your normal web hosting. You don't even have to purchase a new domain for your blog. It can be easily attached as a sub-domain to your current business website eg: http://blog.MyBusiness.com or as a directory: www.MyBusiness.com/blog/.

So why should your home-based business have a blog? Will it benefit me?

The truth is, a blog is just one part of your marketing strategy, although it can quite easily end up being the most valuable and cost-effective way of marketing your business to new and existing clients.

Come to see your blog as a means of getting closer to your intended market.

With a blog, you are giving your home business a personality. You are chatting informally with your market and building that much sought after long-term relationship and trust.

With credibility and trust being what separates successful home business to those that fail, a well-delivered blog can help build a strong rapport with your customers, via you offering insights into your business and your industry. In a low-pressure setting (ie: there should be no hard selling at all), you are networking with your customers in a way that humanizes your business.

So how can a blog work for my home business?

Let's take an example. Your business (which by the way, you run from home) sells PDA add-ons.

By including a blog as an addition to your e-commerce site you could deliver news, facts, figures, views ... in fact, anything to do with your industry.

You can have your rant and raves on topics close to you. You could offer inside tips on using PDA's. You could provide links to other sites of interest that your customers would appreciate.

Your market will love you for your openness and willingness to chat informally, and in time you become perceived as an expert in your field.

But a word of warning. Don't start up a blog just to push sales, offering little but mere "buy from me now" posts. This is a sure-fire way of actually losing credibility.

If you view a blog as a way of communicating better with your customers (ie: talking 'with them' rather than 'to them') then you are well on your way to blogging success and more importantly ... business success.

We all know that in the world of online internet marketing we need our sites to get good quality targeted traffic on a daily basis. Whether we are just trying to improve our web site traffic just in general or as a specific need to increase our revenue from affiliate programs and adsense the life blood of our business is and always will be quality laser targeted visitors.

So in order to produce high quality web sites we all needed to fill our web site pages with good content rich features and articles, this being a two-fold strategy. Not only do we need high quality content to please our visitors and hopefully get them to return to our sites in the future, good quality content also seduced the major search engines into sending their bot crawlers to our sites on a daily basis and thus ensuring that our web sites were placed and ranked well in their search results. After all, well-ranked web sites in search engine results equals more high quality laser targeted visitors and the cycle continues.

In our quest to fulfil the needs of this web content rss feeds came to the rescue, known by some as Rich Site Summary, rss feeds offer a means of placing a link on your web site from a feature source of interest and this will usually be updated daily by the owner with new features and articles. This is a giant leap forward as far as web content is concerned and enables many web site owners to produce high quality web sites with fresh daily content of interest to their visitors.

Placing an rss feed on your web pages now means that your site is continualy updated daily with all the latest news and views of interest to your site visitors and members, ensuring that visitors not only have a site worth visiting but book marking and visiting again on a regular basis.

This will produce the life blood of any website constant and improving web traffic.

The Blog Revolution: How To Use Blogs to Generate Solid Web Profits

Blogs were originally only meant to be ‘Web Logs’, or personal journals for members of o

Blogs were originally only meant to be 'Web Logs', or personal journals for members of on-line communities to stay in touch, sort of like 'underground news media'. But, it didn't take long for net-repreneurs (internet entrepreneurs) to catch on to their popularity and to find ways to use them to make money. The human mind is infinitely creative and nothing really stays the same.

This awesome entrepreneurial spirit transmogrified Blogs into what they are today: very powerful marketing weapons that have almost made some other forms of advertising, redundant. It never ceases to surprise me how ingenious people are when it comes to finding new ways to generate cash flow, particularly in web marketing - what a power-house!! It leaves real-world business for dead (in my opinion).

Traditional safelists are becoming somewhat threadbare. Isn't it amazing how quickly business changes on the 'Net, and isn't it weird how safelist people 'spin their wheels' by posting, posting, posting, when most messages go to 'junk' in-boxes to be automatically deleted. You can send out a whole lot of messages with safelists, but only a tiny percentage are likely to be actually read by a real person. Maybe that's why email traffic is threatening to choke the Internet. Because of this, many canny web business people have now shifted to Blogs as their main tool for promotion. Many others, like me - who continue to believe that safelists have a role (when properly used) -have made Blogs a valuable extra facility in their marketing toolboxl.

Blogs have become so popular because they are so very user-friendly for advertising. They are practical, easy to set up and very convenient to use. Keeping content up to date is very easy for webmasters who otherwise would have to spend hours uploading and downloading files. Be warned, however, that setting up a 'Free' Blog, will mean you will have a lot of other people's ads on it (There's no such thing as a 'free lunch'). It's always worth paying because, yes, you get what you pay for.

Anyway, There are probably five key methods (and a whole lot more) you can use to ensure that Blogs pump up your web profits.

1. BLOGS ARE MAGNETS FOR SEARCH ENGINES: Go on, get on to Google and, whatever topic you search, you'll inevitably see that the search engines have thrown up a number of Blogs in the top ten results. This is because Blogs are constantly showing fresh, new and key word friendly content just like your web pages should; that's a Blog's very reason for being. Imagine the value to you of having your own Blog pop in the top end of search results. The ubiquitous search engines clamor to highlight fresh, appropriate content - they love it. Constantly re-newed and freshened Blogs leave stale, ageing (and rarely updated) web sites for dead.

2. BLOGS LOVE TO LINK TO EACH OTHER: Yes, Blogs love to stick together, creating networking 'heaven'. Just one link on your Blog could see visitors drop in from all over the place. Wow - visitors queueing to click your links; how powerful is that for an advertising and traffic generating system. Awesome.

3.YOUR CUSTOMERS WILL APPRECIATE REGULARLY HEARING FROM YOU: You see, Blogs today have this great 'comment' facility which means your people - your customers - can ask you questions and give you valuable feedback almost immediately. This is almost like a 'chat' system, and is quicker than email. Forget about having to manipulate your source codes, Blogs make this unnecessary. Blogs have an amazing comment system that allows your customers to immediately post feedbacks and queries. And that's what service on the net is all about today - quick responses, dependable advice and getting what you want, when you want. Now. And Blogs can do it.

4. PUMP UP YOUR ADSENSE PROFITS: If you're into Pay Per Click marketing, well Blogs are ideal for you. Then can stimulate even more regular traffic than your basic garden variety web site. Google AdSense, god bless 'em, even lets Blog owners show as many as three appropriate ads, and these must relate to your theme and content, on their Blog pages. It's Blogging marvelous!! Here's the key reason why your Blog should have a 'niche', a specific theme, a targeted audience. Take time to give some thought to this when you set up a Blog. What about AdSense? The more visitors - and they're likely only dropping in because of what you specifically offer - who click on your Blog's Adsense ads, the more income you can earn.

5. BLOGS ARE A DREAM FOR AFFILIATE MARKETERS: Like me, I just bet you are enrolled in more affiliate programs than you can count. The problem is how to continue to promote all of them. ANSWER - You can easily use Blog 'reviews'. Simply design each Blog entry around the particular affiliate program you want to focus on that day. Extol the virtues of the program, product, service or what-ever, give good advice about the PROs and the CONs (this objectivity impresses the hell out of potential buyers who are usually pleased with honesty) and include your affiliate link, almost as an after-thought. This is not hard-sell territory. This is the 'soft-sell' Most 21st century people run a mile from 'hard sellers' but they will take time to listen if they believe you are giving good, solid, valuable advice. Providing such good, valuable info encourages your people to come back for more. Hey, you don't even need to create an individual page for every affiliate program because Blogging makes this unnecessary. What a time saver!!

Whew. Blogs do get me a bit excited. And these tips are only the tip of the iceberg. I am sure you can be creative in the marketing use of your Blogs because they have enormous potential. Just check out the exponential growth of Blogs today and you'll see what I mean. If you want fresh Blog ideas, all you have to do is cruise through a few of them. Check out what the pros are doing and, do the same. Remember, imitation is the ultimate form of flattery.

Don't let anyone try to tell you that the bottom is falling out of web marketing. The awesome growth and popularity of Blogs shows that they could not be more wrong.

By Happy Blogging!!

Just another reason why MTV should go back to strictly airing low-budget music videos or good fight

Just another reason why MTV should go back to strictly airing low-budget music videos or good fight scenes from The Real World: Las Vegas:

So. A couple of weeks ago, MTV announced it would be attempting to bastardize the world of high fashion modeling a la America's Next Top Model for our viewing pleasure with their new show, Model Makers.

In the very lengthy press release that the network inconspicuously dropped on Betty at Models.com, they made very little mention about the specific details surrounding the show -- except for one little blurp about it centering on the model's weight gain.

I assumed this meant that the show would encourage healthy eating habits, considering the unfortunate stories from some of our favorites faces, Coco Rocha and Ali Michael, about the pressure placed upon them to maintain stick thin bodies. But according to a new press release received by Urbanite, I apparently thought wrong:

"Women come in all shapes and sizes, but models don't. The term model conjures an image of stick-thin, towering beauties oozing confidence, glamour, poise and sexuality from every pore. "Skinny," "no body fat," and "size zero" are the words and phrases associated with models. "Chubby," "well-fed," and "big- boned" are not."

But wait, that's not it! There's more absurd talk: "With weekly eliminations looming, models must put their best foot forward at all times while staying focused on losing weight."

Much like the other shows on MTV, Model Makers will probably be just as tacky, mocking the contestants as they struggle to reach an unrealistic beauty standard for our entertainment, which unfortunately, isn't anywhere near being funny.

What's more interesting, though, is wondering which reputable modeling agency has attached themselves to this show. Maybe that's why the went anonymous in the press release. Don't try to get a conscious now, man.

The biggest coffee seller in the world, Starbucks announced a month ago that it would close around 600 Starbucks coffee stores and in turn, push out 12,000 employees. With the recession coming and subprime crisis looming, and American spending on restaurant and coffee shops declining, its no wonder that many competitors of Starbucks may follow suit.

Democrats, led by house speaker have gone to the extent of saying that when they come in power, they would "seriously consider nationalizing the coffee industry to ensure the free flow of java at fair prices.”

Don't think that just because its big it is affected. Smaller, and much younger cousings of Starbucks too face a similar situation : The Beanscene chain of coffee shops, which has all of 14 stores and 142 staff is up for grabs after a similar condition of gloominess in England and other parts of the world. This was a month ago. But....

Just yesterday, about 150 parties expressed interest in buying the coffee seller. Seems like a reversal in coffee maker's fate and coffee industry.

What are your says on the same. Is the coffee industry going down, or its caught its breadth and is on the rise once again? Comment, or participate in our poll!!

The written word is amazingly revealing. Since e-mail and electronic media are becoming increasingly popular, I’ll address this in Part One. Now, we all know that e-mail is a popular, but limited form of communication. There is no body language or social cues to add to what is being “said.” Fair enough, but e-mail is still tremendously insightful into character.

Why?

The largest reason is most people take it for granted. Sort of like the mob boss who discusses his illegal operations in front of his bimbo girlfriend. People too often take for granted that the other end isn’t paying attention.

Let’s give some examples.

First, is the message riddled with mistakes and misspellings? If this individual did not even take time to run the spell check (a simple and readily available tool), then how does this filter into that person’s character?

***Remember. Smaller truths reveal larger ones.

Now a misspelling here and there simply says one is human. What I am talking about is just a blatant disregard for any sort of quality to the message. If this person doesn’t take time to ensure quality here, where else does the “quality” of things in his life suffer?

Secondly? The hidden agenda. Now, all of us have agendas. Agendas are a good thing so long as they are healthy and productive. Yet, too often agendas smack more of manipulation than of any genuine intent.

I.e. What is the key difference in these two statements?

It is nice to hear from you.

It is nice to hear from you now and then.

The first one is a genuine compliment. The second clearly demonstrates an agenda. It plainly implies that this individual is not getting a need met (the need for connection) and guilt is used to propel action. The now and then is added (consciously or unconsciously) to the message to make the other end of the communication feel an impetus to write/call back. The person writing this may not even be aware of what he is truly saying, and that is dangerous. Why? Because he is unintentionally shooting himself in the foot by gambling that the person they wish to talk to will fall in line with his wants/needs.

Thirdly? How does the person view himself and others?

When people send a friend request, I always go to the profile. It is interesting to see what people write in their various sections, how long they are, and which areas command more “space”. If their “About Me” section is 10,000 words long with every detail down to personal hygiene habits, to me, is a pretty straight-forward message about the person. Most likely all communication will be one-sided and the relationship (whatever kind) will be all about him.

Then, there are not-so-nefarious examples, such as section length. If a person’s sections are all roughly equal in length, but his music section is three times as long, that tells the careful observer that music is very important to him and takes up a lot of Space (pun intended).

Onto monikers (personal names/nicknames). These are very telling of how people view themselves. Generally, the agenda beneath will split into two camps. What is true vs. what this person wishes were true but doesn’t believe about him/herself. I’ll give two examples from two people I know intimately well.

Person A chooses the moniker, “Grasshopper” to sign an e-mail. Those of you who watched Kung Fu years ago might remember this was the name Po assigned to his student Kwai Chang Caine who was under tutelage to become a Shaolin monk.

Thus, she possibly views herself as a student. Believes she is in need of tutelage.

Take care, though. Monikers can be misleading. Is the rest of the message congruent to the nickname? Now, if this person goes on and on in an e-mail talking about how great she is and she knows all the answers, then the moniker is simply a tool of manipulation. But, if the e-mail/message falls in line with her moniker, then there is a clear indication this person really desires to be taught.

Person B chooses the moniker “Leonidas.” Now the first thing this should say to you is that there is an inflated sense of self. Most people who actually could rank themselves parallel to this great King of Sparta probably wouldn’t, unless they are an egomaniac and that’s how they became successful. But then again, I have known egomaniacs and they are not exactly the easiest people to deal with.

So Person B chose this moniker for a reason. The best defense is a good offense. We had a saying back when I was in sales. “Say it once. Say it twice. Say it three times. Say it four times and they’ll believe.” While I am uncertain who this individual is trying to convince, himself or the receiver of the message, I do know two things. Either he’s an egomaniac, or he doesn’t believe this about at all, but is trying to convince himself and others this is truth.

Both Grasshopper and Leonidas are people worth watching.

Is Grasshopper teachable? Does she ask questions and listen? Does she follow instructions? Is there any definitive change?

And then there is Leonidas.

Leonidas, hero of Thermopylae, stood at the front lines to lead his men and people to victory. He was willing to sacrifice his own life for his people. Hmmmm.

That is a tough set of shoes to fill, and my guess is this person’s actions would probably not live up to the name (frankly, few could). In fact, I would probably be very wary. Sort of like the date who keeps telling you she doesn’t like drama. Expect drama.

What does all of this mean to you? A lot. We all have agendas. It is how we survive and it is a fact of life. Some agendas are healthy. Others? Not so much. Words are powerful. What are you communication to others? What are they saying to you? How are you portraying yourself to others? How is that helping/hurting you? What is your agenda? The real one, not the one we use to delude ourselves. Is it a good one? If not? Can you shift it and then clearly communicate this need so it can be fulfilled?

Until next time.

I was out to lunch with a dear friend a couple of days ago and she asked me what my plans were for the future, career wise. It as an interesting question that I didn't have an immediate answer to so I simple said, "At this time I am not sure as I am trying to figure out what I want to do". Growing up, my father had never really settled on one job, so it seemed like a silly question to ask. I had always followed in his entrepreneur steps and always sensed that opportunity would knock. Was I wrong? or just naive in my thinking?

I pondered on that question for a couple of days and now think I have a solid answer to "what my future holds". I began my career choice as many young teenagers do, the decision was made by my parents. My mom had 10 kids and I liked kids so teaching felt like the right career path. She had gone to school to be a teacher, so that is what I was mostly pushed into doing. My mom had always said it was a good choice for moms to be teachers, so I went that route, seemed like a work from home job, in some sense as teachers were always working from home. I taught for two years and decided I hated teaching, too much politics and social networking (in the non-online form). So I had to adapt to my surroundings and, as my mother would say, "See a need, fill it".

I decided to do the next best thing to teaching, online tutoring and instant homework help. This was a definite "work from home" field with an "online marketing business" twist. I spent hours on end (remember the quote from Abe Lincoln, "if I had 6 hours to chop down a tree, I would spend the next 4 hours sharpening my ax") learning about the internet. I learned how to social network, how to start my own small business, all about the SEO (Search Engine Optimization)and WWW (World Wide Web). I became a "preferred" writer on sites such as ezineonline.com and article city (they even sent me a mug at the end of the year for all my writing contributions). I found amazing business consulting sites (such as powerstrategies.tv and planetarystreams.com) that enabled me to bring my business to a successful money making company.

I am at a new stage in my life, but a lot of what my future holds depends on what I steps I decide to take in my life and how I strategically place my next pieces. I don't think I was wrong or naive in not knowing that answer to what my future holds mainly because I am know I am able to do something with what I am giving. To quote the amazing President Abe Lincoln again, "During the Civil War the generals told the President that they had caught 6 cows and wanted to know what to do with them. He replied, "Milk Them". So to the World Wide Web and those spending hours on Google trying to find the answer to what their future holds, just remember to take what you are given and find the easiest solution.

Creating a flow means in this case, to open the internal and external flows of energies such that they meet and interact freely. To harness this for profit and have fun doing it is the point of this written guideline.

Now, to construct this - I want to use the actual basis of facts that I know already and maybe back it up with information from other sources (maybe).

Of –>
This is to define what kind of flow is described, however the information could pertain generally to several areas including creativity, energy, money, effort, originality, products, markets, internal landscapes of the psyche, intellectual abilities, psychic and spiritual energies, or I suppose, water given the impetus by removing constraints.

A restrained flow of creativity, originality, thinking, creative energies, spiritual energies, efforts and intellectual abilities is no different than a dam constraining those energies from emerging into the world surrounding it. This isn’t all that complicated. A blank sheet of paper is all that is needed to prove it. Either the flow does or doesn’t happen onto the page. Either it is full, evenly distributed and open or it is not, and is hindered in some way. This is easy enough to find out.

Pick any subject matter at hand, a blank piece of paper and a pencil, begin writing thoughts concerning the subject matter. Come back to it after ten minutes away and add more thoughts. Are the thoughts easy to grab and convey to the paper? Or are they stumbling or fragmented?

(see outline from post before this one for complete overview)

Yaitu Bisakah bisnis online membuat kita kaya?

Lalu apa syaratnya? apa buktinya?

By James "theo" Theopistos

Since the 90s people in mass started looking for ways to make the Internet work for them. The challenges that people faced were both technological and psychological but those that overcame those issues and used common sense usually made to some semblance of success.

But out of every hundred people probably only a small percentage of those actually have made it happen when you discount those that were fast talkers and able to get financiers to front the funds for unproven untested concepts that never became profitable. We saw many of those collapsed as the dotcom bubble burst and only a few remained standing strong and profitable.

I myself consider myself successful in this endeavor in my small little world although my online business probably would barely be noticed in places like Silicon Valley. I run a company called FinerWork (aka FinerWorks.com). I started the company partly by accident and not with a very clear cut goal in mind.

Back in the late 1990s I began to experiment with computer graphics and writing short science fiction stories. At the time I was a police officer and beyond a regular workout routine really did not have much of anything to relieve the daily stress and adrenaline that the occupation can give you. We had Internet access in our little one bedroom apartment in San Antonio and so when I was “surfing” the web I would look up stuff on Science Fiction, Fantasy, Art, and Photography.

While searching I had seen that other people were posting their stories on web sites and what artists were doing with 3d software and programs like Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop. Being an artist at heart I was intrigued and decided I wanted to do this myself and share my works online. Around the same time my wife had gotten into Mary Kay Cosmetics and had wanted to harness the Internet to help her budding business. Because of both of these I was decided to learn how to create web pages and post them online. All the technology, software needed and how-tos were new to me. Html was a foreign language and I had only had my first computer for a few months. Even now I remember staying up for hours just trying to figure out how to get a picture to display on a web page and almost giving up on the entire concept.

But, I persevered and finally got my first web page up. I used a site like Geocities which offered free hosting of web sites and over the following months started to teach myself how to use create a fully fictional site. It was not much but I was proud of it since it had a navigation menu, multiple web pages and eventually, once I figured out how, a contact form.

It was not long that among my small circle of friends and family I was not considered an Internet Guru. Because of the limited web programming knowledge I had (which was more than most I knew) and the fact that more people were looking to use the Internet to make their business grow, I was easily signed out at the “Go-to” guy for these sort of things. Following was a whirlwind of different things I dabbled in from a partnership in which a couple friends had me try to develop an online system for one of the local political parties in Bexar County, to several small company web sites. By this time my programming knowledge was still pretty sparse but there were systems that were already developed which I learned to install and customize to a small degree.

These projects continued to come out way and by then I had also amassed a large number of digital art pieces (I had given up on writing). I decided to rebrand my computer art and created a new website. We had just moved into our first house and high-speed Internet access had just been made available so without hesitation I had it installed. This was 1999 and I registered a domain and hosting account and created a web site that almost immediately began to take off in terms of traffic. I tried various promotion techniques, some working and some not but the site became so popular that it received on average 6,000 visitors a day. The only problem was I was not making any money which is what I wanted to do. I tied various things with the site from ad networks which paid me commissions to converting and selling my art as screen savers and wall papers. This did not bring in the financial freedom I sought (around $10 a day) but it did lead me to more work as a freelance webmaster and even some well paying commissioned art.

After a couple of years I started to look at selling my artwork as prints. I bough a nice HP inkjet printer that could print up to 13x19 initially tried selling prints on photo paper. This did not do well so I tried to come up with something a little more unique. I remember I had visited a Thomas Kinkade gallery store in the mall when the beginning of an idea came to me: prints on canvas. The only problem was how I would print to canvas. That was when I discovered at an office supply store some cheap inexpensive 8.5x11 canvas for inkjet printers. I bought some went home and made a few quick changes to my web site then waited. The wait was not long before I started to get in some orders. The number of orders was still small but the idea seemed to give more substance to the idea of selling prints online or at least in the eyes of my visitors. This still did not work as well as I wanted so I tried a different approach: order prints and pay after you get them. This brought in a couple orders a day which was a much larger quantity then I had before and actually made me a little extra money. Of course only about half the orders that went out ever received a check but I felt that at least something was better than nothing. After a few months I did the math and discovered I was actually breaking even when you considered the cost and time so I ditched the idea and figured I would try it again later and go back to pay first. What I did get out of it was something much more valuable.

A fellow artist that enjoyed m work inquired about having me make some canvas prints for her. I figured why not and had her send me the files she wanted printed. I made a few prints which she sold but because I could not print anything larger than 8x10 do the canvas being so small. I called a few sign and reprograhics companies to see how much it would be to subcontract the printing and discovered one called Lone Star Reprographics that could not only do printing but could provide me with canvas by the roll. I figured why not give the roll a try so I bought one and cut it into 13x19 sheets and was instantly able to offer larger prints. This seemed to help me sell more prints with the pay first concept. I also invested in a Merchant Account which further increased sales. The only problem I had now was that the prints seemed to fade after a few months and I was not pleased with the quality. Plus I wanted to make even larger prints. Around that time another artist friend told me about a site called CafePress that let you make and sell your artwork on coffee mugs, mouse pads and more. He also told me about a new upstart company called Zazzle.com which was in its beta stage but did allow the same thing with more of a focus towards posters. I tried both with mixed success but really wanted to make my own prints and make them big. The cost of the $12,000 printers used were way out of my budget so when that one artist contacted me again but wanted me to print something larger I had to go back to Lone Star Reprographics. They produced several prints for me which I then in turn shipped to the artist. I did not make much of a profit but I did wonder if I had sprung upon a new business model. The cost for printing at Lone Star Reprographics was too much so I would need to find a more cost effective alternative. I also looked at what Zazzle.com was doing and figured why not take that approach. One the side I had been developing web sites with more advanced features and for clients that included local military bases so my programming knowledge had grown considerably and I felt confident I could build a website that was devoted to receiving orders from artists that wanted prints made on demand. I had to of course figure out how I was going to do the printing. Again the buy a big printer option was not feasible so I went to Kinkos. When I went in the guy at the front counter had me speak to a manager who then gave me the prices. I left disappointed because what they would be charging me was around what I hoped to charge my customers.

I put the whole idea on the backburner and tried a few other ventures which had some small success but really did not bring in any extra money which we needed to pay off some of the debts my wife and I accrued.

In 2003 an old friend came knocking at my door (or actually called). He had been a mentor for me as a teenager and had moved to another state. He said he was moving back and wanted to meet to share old times. I had just created a stunning digital painting that reminded me of him so I decided to have it printed on canvas as a 16x20 at Kinkos. When I went to pick it up, on a whim I asked about pricing again but this time said I wanted to produce prints like this on a daily basis therefore wondered what sort of discount I could get. I don’t recall what it was but it was substantial and I don’t know how they made a profit but after some quick calculations in my head left with the idea that maybe I could make my printing business concept work after all.

Over the next couple weeks I had several meetings with the local Kinkos manager and developed a web site to accept orders. I also figured since I am in this for real it is time to invest some of the money I had not spent into advertising. Boom! Literally overnight success. The advertising paid off. I began to get a couple orders a day; I setup my garage so that I could mount the canvas and ran everything else out of my upstairs extra bedroom. That first month yields a net of over $8000. I was stunned. The volume of orders increased over the following months and Kinko’s was now delivering the prints to me via driver and picking up the disk I would create daily for print jobs. Everything was great except one very important thing. Kinkos quality was very poor and inconsistent. I won’t dwell too much on this but needless to say that the colors many times off due to incorrect setting used when printing and the inks rubbed right off the print if you touched them due to the canvas type.. This was frustrating so I know I was going to have to get my own printer. The cash flow was good so as soon as we had paid off our last credit card bill I bought my own printer and began to print the prints myself. Quality went up, business went up and the site continues to grow.

We now run multiple printers have a small staff and of course no longer work out of my garage. We have a laid back attitude here at the office. Every day is shorts and t-shirt day except for causal Friday in which we can wear flip flops if we want. We come and go as we please but our serious about customer service and getting orders out like clockwork. We ship daily to artists and photographers all over the world and occasionally I see a print ordered by that same artist that ordered from me long ago.

The phrase the customer is always right was mooted by Harry Gordon Selfridge, founder of Selfridge’s department store in London, England, in 1909.

But, say music cartel policies, the axiom doesn’t apply in the digital 21st century, if it ever did apply.

These days, according to them, the customer is always shite.

If the customer is ever wrong, re-read rule #1

“Stew Leonard’s … is a small chain of supermarkets in Connecticut and New York that Ripley’s Believe It or Not! has deemed ‘The World’s Largest Dairy’ and that Fortune Magazine has deemed one of the top ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’!” - says the Wikipedia, going on:

“In 2004, Tom Leonard, son of the founder, also opened a spinoff store, Tom Leonard’s Farmer’s Market, in the Short Pump section of Henrico County, Virginia (suburban Richmond).

The store is also known for its customer-service policy, which greets shoppers at each store’s entrance etched into a three-ton rock:

1. The customer is always right.

2. If the customer is ever wrong, re-read rule #1.

The cartels have created for themselves huge mountains of customer it ill will.

They might have gotten away with it before the Net came along. But these days people can, and do, use blogs, IM, cell phones, web pages and all the other communications technologies of this digital era to bypass, if not completely ignore, the traditional corporate news and information media.

Customers with free will

A primary reason Obama is so successful is: he’s come to understand the importance of the Net as the way to reach people not only in the US, but around the world.

In the 21st century, consumers are steadily being replaced by customers with free will who know what they want and who are no longer willing to be treated like mushrooms —- kept in the dark and fed on bullshit.

And it’s still possible for the corporate music and movie industries to turn things around.

All they have to do is start treating their customers as reasonable people who deserve the best, not the worst.

But the chances of that happening grow slimmer by the day and in the meanwhile, customers are not only right, they know it.

Three years ago, in a Q&A with Slyck, “One way or another, p2p technologies will be the primary backbone for communications in this century,” I said, going on >>>

Thousands of new people are going online every day meaning for the first time in history, ‘we’ have a voice ‘they’ have to listen to.

Look at what’s happening in the entertainment industry, for example. They’re going blue trying to avoid the issues, but they’ll eventually be forced to acknowledge their customers as active participants rather than mindless cash-cows.

Moreover, the companies and governments forget the people they’re threatening in various ways are also the ones who are conceiving, developing, servicing and administering the very systems which keep the wheels turning and the money coming in.>>

Northern Kentucky Electric Service, Inc. Showcases New Service Offerings, New Branding

Northern Kentucky Electric Service, the greater Cincinnati industrial, manufacturing and retail electrical contractor, today launches its new website, available at www.nkyelectric.com.

The new NKES website allows current and prospective clients to review the company’s service offerings, client testimonials and case studies. Facility managers visiting the site are also invited to take an energy management survey in order to benchmark their company’s energy usage in comparison with other area industrial and manufacturing facilities.

“The new NKES website better defines the services available to our clients and accurately reflects our brand identity,” Northern Kentucky Electric Service president Mike Wissman said. “We are committed to helping companies improve their efficiency without sacrificing productivity, and our new, easy to navigate website is user friendly and straight to the point- just like us.”

Also part of its recent rebranding, Northern Kentucky Electric Service has expanded its service offerings to include a program dedicated to helping manufacturing and industrial facilities reduce their energy and electricity load. Dubbed NKEco, the new program will enable NKES to help industrial and retail facilities cope with the rising cost of energy prices by improving efficiency.

Ostatnimi czasy jakas taka dziwna tenedencja nastala.

No ok mowie. Chcesz sie promowac to sie promuj!

Niewiadomo..
