Have you encountered this kind of blue-screen error? Irritating, huh? Well...

Just found out recently after having to experience the same BSOD for 3 times in a row. I tried googling for the answer and fortunately found a convenient explanation and fix in the Microsoft website.

As per Microsoft, the error occurs due to the race inter-lapping of threads reading and written causing a the PCI root node to be missing from the device tree. Hence, the inaccessible_boot_device because the storage is now missing. It's kind of a brain-twister really but it goes something like that. To go through all the techie-jargons, check out the Microsoft explanation on this. ;)

To resolve this error, download the Microsoft Hotfix.

List CDLive

Ps:

Ubuntu non vi farà mai questo!!!

This is one of the easy to make fake errors. You do this one by:

First opening notepad

Then typing the following in: x=msgbox("Error Body Here", 6+12, "Error Title Here")

And then saving it to the desktop as a .vbs file

You can replace "Error Body Here" with anything that you want it to say, just keep the quotation marks. Same goes for "Error Title Here"

Here is an example:

x=msgbox("Warning! Your computer has been ****ed. Please reinstall windows to fix this problem", 6+12, "Your PC has been ****ed")

I would then save this to my desktop as "Internet Explorer".vbs

Then, i would create a shortcut of the fake error, and change the icon of the fake error shortcut to look like the icon of internet explorer (you do this by right clicking the fake error shortcut, going to properties, change icon, and selecting the internet explorer icon. After doing that, I would delete the original Internet Explorer Icon (the real one, not the error), and place the fake error shortcut one in its place.

There! A simple way to create an error message. Copy and paste the error several times in notepad and the error will reappear as many times as you copied and pasted it regardless of what button was pressed.

Here's a video on a similar ways to do this.

Don't copy and paste the error onto notepad or else it won't work. You must manually type this one in notepad.

Mercikes,
(was getekend) Je gastvrouw

Japanese OS

Like every other product in Japan, the default OS in Laptops and dekstops is also in Japanese. I tried to convert the language into English of existing system, but you need to have Vista Ultimate for this feature. My Laptop came with Vista Basic. So, there was no option for me to format the system and install the english OS. I had brought both Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista Ultimate from home... just incase I needed them. So, pretty confidently I tried to install Vista Ultimate over this version, but it failed without any clear error. I tried again and failed. So, then I just formatted this windows and started installation from Dos.. and it failed too, the installation would get stuck at last step of running windows for first time. My mind tensed up. I then tried to install Windows XP and it failed too.. with BSOD. Tried again and again for around 20 times.. switching many things.. recreating partitions, master boot record, bios settings, active partitions and what not. I was unable to sleep all night. I had Kazumi on chair beside my bed and I laid on bed... occasionally my eyes would close but then I woke up again and continue my tries.

Trying 64 bit OS instead of 32 bit OS

It was sehri time already.. I utilized this opportunity to goto Mr. Furqans room and borrow his Laptop. I connected it to internet and downloaded Win XP 64-bit version.. with net speed it took around 2 hours to get it. Tried to install that... and it gave an error that no hard-disk was found. So, another lead lost. I ran diagnostics of ram, harddisks and everything was fine. I was clueless and nearly in tears about what to do.

Linux to the rescue

Then I used his laptop again to download Ubuntu Linux. And that one ran like butter on the Laptop. I was both happy and pissed. Happy to see Kazumi running, and pissed cuz I could do nothing in linux except net browsing.. linux is worthless for my causes. I did manage to get in contact with my family properly for the first time using ubuntu though. And still kept on trying to install windows on other harddisk as multi-os setup.. It was sunday now And I spent the WHOLE DAY in bed... fighting the OS problem. Another Iftari went by.. More than 60 hours had passed in which I had taken a cumulative of 2 hours sleep max. I was unable to find anything useful on HP website or any other website for that matter regarding the problem. Except that a lot of people faced the exact same symptoms as me; On HP, IBM and Dell notebooks.

Climax

At around 10 PM I finally found a positive lead, maybe the harddisk was missing specific drivers. Since the new SATA drives come with drivers that are not by default supported in windows.. so that could be it. I downloaded the drivers from Intel site for my chipset, slip-streamed the drivers inside the windows xp 32-bit.. to make my own customized version of windows through nLite . And then started to install windows through it. I was asleep.. I had no power left in my body to see the results.. at EXACT 12:00 midnight.. my eyes opened again.. and running copy of windows ran before me. It was a miracle.. it worked.. my windows was working.. And as you can expect from excitement.. I was fully awake now. So, now all the crappy driver and software installation routine started. And I was done 1 hour before Sehri. So, now I put some torrents on download and went to sleep for 1 hour. That was the sweetest sleep I got in past 3 days.. I was no more "Sleepless in <del datetime="00">Seattle</del> Yokohama ", I finally had proper working system and finally 24 hour INTERNET!!!!

From here on ahead, you all know the story... My blogging had resumed to frequent level.. and everything in life just seemed to work fine. Some classic movies don't need a sequel. So the story of Kazumi and Karar needs to Sleepless in Seattle 2 also. ;)

Recently we had a customer call from Oakton, VA. Their computer began acting up - occasionally it would display no video upon boot, other times it would freeze up with what appeared to be hieroglyphics on the screen. The client desperately needed someone to help her with her computer repair in Northern Virginia but was unable to figure out who to call. She called Dell. Dell diagnosed the machine as having a "bad memory board."

When she called onCALL 25/8, Inc. I told her that I have no clue what Dell could be referring to in regards to her unbootable Dimension B110 but that I'd be happy to send a technician out. He came prepared with the DDR 3200 memory for testing purposes - just in case dell was write.

It turned out not to be memory. The client's system was bootable after reseating her hardware - BUT - now we had a blue screen of death (BSOD) to repair in the Vienna, Virginia area - sound the alarm! We took the machine to our shop for a thorough diagnostic - no sense risking data loss if the client's drive was failing.

It turns out, as you may have predicted, to be a defective video card. The client's system was also infected with viruses. She claims she once called a Dell representative and reported the bogus antivirus warnings were safe to ignore (similair to those Ryan talked about on his blog a few weeks back).

Okay, given the release and announcement of new Apple products and iTunes 8, there are a lot of user

Okay, given the release and announcement of new Apple products and iTunes 8, there are a lot of users that would definitely complain about a supposed known issue when they upgrade to iTunes 8 in their Windows Vista operated computers.

It usually happens when a user plugs-in their iPHONE or iPOD to their Windows Vista operated computers and they have recently upgraded to iTunes 8. An interesting find after digging into this website:

http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/davak/2008/09/10/fixes-itunes-8-plus-usbaapl64sys-plus-vista-equals-bsod/

Here's the suggested fix for the said BSOD: iTunes 8 plus usbaapl64.sys plus Vista equals BSOD

The Blue Screen Of Death will note the error is with usbaapl64.sys.

These problems are actually related to Logitech and HP drivers. You need to uninstall iTunes 8.0 and then remove any Logitech and HP drivers on your system. Then you can re-install iTunes 8.0. However, the downside of this is that your Logitech and HP hardware will no longer since the drivers were removed.

Most often, removing or unplugging the HP or Logitech device from your computer is already enough to prevent the error without the tedious job of uninstalling the drivers. Sometimes, moving your USB device or Apple device to different USB ports may also work.

With this kind of error on the loose, I'm confident Apple will release a fix soon. However, until a fix is yet to be found, you can just downgrade your itunes to an older version temporarily. But that's a very tricky process though. ;) Here're the steps:

1. Uninstall all Apple Products including quicktime, apple mobile device support, and iTunes.
2. Download and install older version of iTunes 7.7.
3. Go to your iTunes music folder.
4. Backup (or rename) your iTunes Library.itl file and then delete it. By backing up this file in a safe place you will keep your iTunes 8.0 library intact.
5. Open the Previous iTunes Library folder.
6. Copy the most recent .itl file to your main iTunes music folder and name it iTunes Library.itl
7. Start iTunes.
8. Deauthorize and then Reauthorize computer (if you don’t, you will have to reinstall all the apps onto your iPhone). You can find this option through the Store Menu.
9. Sync with fingers crossed. :)

The other day I was doing random things on vista, listening to music, talking to people on AIM, and other things. But as I was working, out of no where... CRASH, BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH. It happened once, I just said alright and restarted my computer. About an hour went by and it crashed and gave me the BSOD again. I don't know what the hell is wrong with it, it's a brand new computer that I built and has been working for the past about 4 months that I've had it, no problem. But in the past week I've been getting the BSOD more than I'd like... I'm actually considering going back to XP and trying that, but Windows Vista is just not doing what it should. I know theres gonna be Mac fans and Linux fans that read this and say things like, just switch! No, I've been happy with windows and I know how to use it inside and out. Mac, I will use along with windows one day, just not right now. And Linux, I got an amazing response to how to dual boot my system and make a virtual OS, and I had tried the dual boot as you can read about in another blog. I'm out of my trying Linux phase for right now, it's fun to play with but for what I need windows was working. I'm just wondering if Windows 7 will be any worse than Windows Vista...
