I used to have it all the time, i would look around at people and think i cant be like this for the rest of my life, i cant just do the whole 9 to 5 thing until retirement, there must be something more out there. I am a lifelong skydiving fan, yet have never actually skydived before.  The idea of jumping out of a plane into nothingness greatly intrigues me.  The idea grabbed hold of my mind and has never let go.  It just seems like the ultimate sport.  Stories I have heard from people who have actually taken the jump compare it to no other.  The ultimate goal.  The ultimate rush.

I have always wanted to fly up in a plane, staring down at the Earth, feeling the tension build under my skin until it finally forces me out.  Out of the plane, into the sky.  Free falling to the ground, forgetting everything else.  School, debt, fear.  Letting everything go out the window, literally. 

This has been my dream for quite some time.  This is why I started "Out of the Blue;" to learn more about the sport that I have grown to love, yet have never experienced. 

Like I said, I am a senior college student.  I am a senior college student without much money.  Due to my hectic schedule of classes and an internship, I am only able to work 2 days a week, where most of my money goes to pay bills.  I simply do not have the income to skydive.  Currently, on my own, skydiving is not a reality.

That is why I need the help of whomever visits my blog.  I know that "Out of the Blue" would only be better if I experienced skydiving myself.  I would be able to write better stories from a clearer perspective about the sport, giving everyone a first-hand story of my experience of a real free-fall.  I ask for anyone possible, to please donate whatever they can to help me achieve my dream.

But the toolbar may soon be a thing of the past for all users.

But now you don’t need the toolbar to stumble: StumbleUpon is launching, according to RWW, an alternative way for new visitors to use the service without signing up. The download-free version will be accessible from their website. In addition,

It’s also ushering in a partner program to allow individual Web sites to offer StumbleUpon on their properties. That program launches this fall with four partners: HowStuffWorks.com, HuffingtonPost.com, National Geographic.com, and Rolling Stone.com.

Called Property StumbleThru, the new service will work within sites, serving up popular pages at random (or according to a user’s interests). HowStuffWorks and HuffPo launch the service today:

StumbleUpon will also ramp up its current ad sales efforts and offerings with a larger staff. The new staff will help advertisers target their stumblers better, including:

making recommendations on specific categories where an advertiser’s content may do well. (Most StumbleUpon advertisers are media and entertainment companies.) Improved analytics will show how that content is being received.

As TechCrunch noted when it reported of the sales rumors, StumbleUpon has six million registered users—but its popularity has waned over time, with worldwide visitors in July down 70% over the same month in 2007. Will this be enough to save the service?

I speak for no one but myself. Indeed, I speak from only my limited experience. I speak without a great amount of education, without having conducted research or surveys, without asking others, without investigating in depth the machinery of our world. All I can claim is that I am an intelligent, thoughtful human being, constantly in pursuit of answers, who wants something better.

Better than what? Better than the American hegemony of today. Better than war and strife. Better than free rides for the lazy. Better than genocide and coups d'etat and oppression and hunger. The world as it stands is full of secrets, of ignorance, of corruption, of poverty. Much of that cannot be changed. But much can.

Both candidates in the United States' 2008 Presidential race say that they stand for change. This is a great claim. The division of power among the several branches of government, the influence of private interest groups, and the varied opinions in Congress can easily prevent any single person from moving the status quo.

I make no great claims. But I know that something needs to change. I know that the world can work more smoothly and more fairly. I know that our countries have managed for the past ten thousand years, but continued conflicts and internal strife show the fragility and injustice of the multiaxial distribution of power. Globalization is like a tall stack of Jenga blocks: certainly impressive, but easier to topple. And when it falls, there's a bigger mess to clean up.

What is the solution? Do we adopt a Communist system, ignoring human rights to enforce economic equality? Do we move to an anarchy, where the strongest and most cunning survive at the expense of the less fortunate? Do we maintain the status quo, where the poor remain poor as the rich get richer, until economic collapse or revolution turns it upside down?

I don't know the answer. But I want to figure it out. This blog is a place for me to share ideas, thoughts, commentaries. This is a search for what is right. This is me, wondering how the world should be.

I make no great claims. I am only a pinpoint on a blue-green ball, one person among billions. But I make great claims. I claim the will and power to figure out what a better world is.

We've all heard that "bigger is better" and many of us apparently believe its true because we can simply look at our lives and see the many times we wanted the next edition or the next new model of something because it was bigger and better.

Today lets do something a little different.  I want you to finish this sentence:

"In my mind, "bigger is better" because........"

A man found an eagle's egg and put it in the nest of a barnyard hen.
The eagle egg hatched along with the brood of chicks and eventually grew up with them.

All it's life, the eagle did what the barnyard chickens did, thinking he was a barnyard chicken. He scratched the earth for worms and insects.
He clucked, cackled, would thrash his wings and fly a few feet into the air.

Years passed and the eagle grew into adulthood. One day he saw a magnificent bird high above him in the cloudless sky. It glided in graceful majesty among the powerful air currents with scarcely a beat of its strong golden wings.

The eagle looked up in awe. "What's that?" he asked. "That's an eagle, the king of birds." said his neighbor. "He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth-we're chickens." So the eagle lived and died a chicken, because that is what he thought he was.

You see, most people believe that they are chickens, while actually they are eagles! Most people do what they are told, never ask questions, bury their dreams, look down and play the chicken game…

So, the question is: are you a chicken or an eagle? Isn’t it time to spread your wings and make majestic circles in the air? What’s keeping you? When is the last time you really dreamed of another life?

Let me tell you, there is an alternative ending to this story:

The eagle looked up in awe. "What's that?" he asked. "That's an eagle, the king of birds." said his neighbour. "He belongs to the sky. We belong to the earth-we're chickens." The eagle went through the day thinking of the eagle flying high. The next day the eagle went down to the pond and saw his reflection in the water. He began to test his wings, flying further and further each day. After a few weeks, he was flying high and gliding just as if he were an eagle. He noticed that he looked a lot like an eagle. He realized that he was an eagle. With that thought, he flew above his past and his environment.

So, look in the mirror and see the golden eagle you really are, even if you are unaware of the heights to which you could soar. Even if you have lived like a chicken, you are never too old to claim your true identity. You are far much better than you know! Step up, spread your wings and take action!

It's not like Sony could really keep this thing under wraps for much longer, but the company finally did the deed by announcing the PSP-3000 at the Leipzig Games Convention. The unit itself will look exactly like the PSP-2000, though it will feature an "improved screen that's better outside with no glare and a built-in mic." The juicy tidbits have yet to surface, but we are told to expect the new handheld in Europe for €199 ($291) on October 15th.

HCM CITY — Small- and medium-sized enterprises are developing strongly, with only 3.8 per cent of them facing business and production difficulties, according to the State Bank of Viet Nam (SBV).

The SBV’s Credit Department said despite widespread rumours that many SMEs would go bankrupt, only a few would do so.

About 23 per cent of SMEs are operating effectively and 73.2 per cent have had average growth, SBV said.

Only 3.8 per cent were recognised to have difficulties, the agency said.

The bank based its observations on SME business results as well as their payment of bank debts on schedule.

Some 163,673 SMEs have credit relations with commercial banks, accounting for more than half of the total number.

These enterprises have a combined capital of VND482.1 trillion (US$29.2 billion), of which 45.31 per cent are raised from bank loans.

Loans that commercial banks have given to SMEs are worth VND299.47 trillion ($18.1 billion), accounting for 27.3 per cent of the economy’s total or up by 16.65 per cent compared with last year’s figure.

Short-term loans represent 73.05 per cent and the rest comprises medium- and long-term loans.

As much as 5.1 per cent of SME bank loans were injected into the agricultural sector, and 38.51 per cent were used for industrial and construction activities.

Meanwhile, up to 65.39 per cent of total bank loans were pumped into the trading and service sectors.

The rate of bad debts in SMEs was 3.64 per cent, up by 1 per cent compared with that of last year.

Commercial banks have in recent years begun considering SMEs as potential customers and many banks have given them capital-lending priorities, including interest-related incentives.

The Export-Import Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Eximbank), for example, applied a lending interest rate of 17.5 per cent for SMEs, much lower than the current rate of 19 per cent a year.

Many commercial banks have given up to 70 per cent or even 95 per cent of their total loans to SMEs. —
