IN THE NEWS: According to the Hollywood Reporter, an extensive new research study has found that unhappy people watch more TV while those consider themselves happy spend more time reading and socializing.
The University of Maryland analyzed 34 years of data collected from more than 45,000 participants and found that watching TV might make you feel good in the short term but is more likely to lead to overall unhappiness.
COMMENTARY: Researchers called this the “Becker” syndrome.

We’ve elected a new president in the time since I’ve last posted!

I admit, things have been busy and I’ve gotten behind in my posting. We’ve had some great guests and some exciting things happening.

First of all… I hope you will join us this Thursday for our interview with Ken Levine.  (He was scheduled for last week, but we were in the middle of a studio move for our online home at AchieveRadio.com and a winter storm and crazy internet issues kept us off the air last week.  Kudos to Engineer Bill for getting things hooked up so quickly.)  Ken Levine is one of the most interesting people you will meet.  Why?  How much time ya got?!

So let’s see… he’s an Emmy award-winning television writer.  You’ve seen episodes that he and his writing partner David Isaacs have written for Cheers, Wings, Fraisier, Becker and more.  Plus, Levine has directed many episodes for those sitcom as well. And he and David were head writers for the iconic show M*A*S*H.

He’s also a radio personality, having gotten his start in the boss radio years.  Now he hosts Dodger Talk for KABC, along with a Sunday night sports show.

Then there’s the major league baseball play-by-play announcing that he did for the Baltimore Orioles, the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners.

Did I mention that he and David wrote the episode of The Simpsons that named the baseball team the Isotopes… and then the Albuquerque, New Mexico team decided to appropriate it for their minor league team?  Oh, he was also the baseball announcer on that episode.

What have I missed?  Oh… that book he wrote.  “It’s Gone… No Wait a Minute.” And he’s currently working on his memoirs, even while I post.

And because he felt that no one was really giving  writers a good feel for what the television writing business is really like, he started a seminar/workshop series called The Sitcom Room, where writers, and writer-hopefuls, come from across the nation and Canada to participate in as close to a real writing room as can be created without actually being part of a show.

And then there’s his blog. (click here to view) Viewed by thousands every day, Levine has fans from around the world who read his daily postings about everything from writing to baseball to American Idol.

Existem luminárias de todos os tipos e para todos os gostos. Mas essa luminária do designer Daniel Becker realmente é super interessante.

De led a Melting Light é uma luminária de luz indireta (me falem se estiver errado). Parece ser inspirada em gotas de chuvas ou até então se pensarmos diferente, como se uma gota saísse de uma poça, ou de um lago. Na minha opnião, fantástico!

Nel suo ultimo post, il premio Nobel Gary Becker della Scuola di Chicago prende un granchio colossale argomentando nei confronti della teoria austriaca del ciclo economico. L’articolo e’ “Depressions Cause a lot More Pain than Benefits“.

La critica più ricorrente che normalmente viene rivolta agli economisti di Chicago e Keynesiani che provano a sparare due colpi pur che sia nei confronti della teoria austriaca e’ che gli austriaci non li hanno letti. E’ proprio cosi, sembra incredibile una tale approssimazione da parte di chi e’ stato insignito del titolo più alto per un economista. Tuttavia non e’ un caso, non e’ colpa unicamente di Becker, quanto più che altro della metodologia adottata dal mainstream della scienza economica.

Gli economisti moderni non leggono i classici dell’economia, gli studenti graduated non hanno alcun incentivo a studiarseli e sono premiati solo quando scrivono articoli di 20 pagine pieni zeppi di analisi quantitativa, che devono concentrare la quasi totalità della bibliografia su fonti moderne. Al massimo e’ ammesso citare un Keynes (1936), per cameratismo.

In questo contesto, passare le notti a leggersi Hayek e’ segno di eclettismo patologico, genera sospetto e isolamento, perciò non va menzionato. Ogni dottorando o ricercatore in economia, che non si sia avvicinato all’economia solo perché gli piace la matematica, sa bene cosa voglio dire.

Tornando all’articolo di Becker, la serie di imprecisioni riguardo alla teoria austriaca e’ plateale. Consiglio la lettura di tutto il thread, in particolare il commento di Gu Si Fang.

Dave Hollander with Becker has announced that due to leasing issues, and not the economy or other factors, that Becker’s will be closing the Huntington Beach location. The store was the least performing of the six stores in the Becker chain and due to a dispute over re-signing the current lease, the decision to close the location is the best option. Hollander does go on to say that Becker may be opening new locations along the beachfront.

Me ne stavo a zonzo per uno dei posti più belli d’Europa.
Passegiavo per il centro di Berlino con la mia macchina fotografica all’imbrunire,catturando sfondi seppia e vedute suggestive in greyscale.
All’improvviso, per l’ennesima volta, Berlino torna a stupirmi. Da lontano sento scoppiettio di motori e vedo un coloratissimo gruppo di piccole strane macchinine colorate: alcune zebrate, altre viola,fucsia,verde acido col tetto color panna, un’altra sembrava un cappucino!
Lo sciame colorato si snoda per la strada riempendo il contesto di colore e allegria. Seguo la carovana  fino a che non la perdo di vista. Cerco di catturare l’evento con quelche scatto e con sorriso sognante stampato in faccia,continuo la mia passeggiata romantica.
Tornata a casa ho mostrato le foto ai miei amici che mi ospitavano  ed è qui che è saltato fuori che le macchinette in questione che facevano anche una puzza pestilenziale per strada, come se fossero alimentate a miscela ultragrassa sono delle Trabant, macchine della ex DDR.
Qualche tempo fa mi è tornato in mente l’episodio e navigando ho scoperto l’esistenza di www.trabi-safari.com: trattasi di un’agenzia che noleggia vecchie Trabant colorate per eventi e manifestazioni.
Beh, a questo punto, è scattata la caccia all’evento.

Possibile che ci fosse in quei giorni un evento a Berlino con tanto di giro in Trabant e io ne fossi totalmente all’oscuro?!

Kame la talpa ha scovato il gossip.
Trattavasi di un’iniziativa di Becker casa produttrice di navigatori satellitari che per promuovere il lancio della nuova linea di device ha pensato di organizzare un  giro turistico-panoramico in Trabant con navigatore a bordo. Originale e audace che  un navigatore super hi-tech dall’immagine un po’ algida  come Becker, scelga un mezzo così pop retrò per tarare le proprie funzionalità e mostrarle ai buyer.
Perché io non lo sapevo/non ero invitata?

L’analisi di Gary Becker dell’attuale crisi fa affiorare alcune differenze di fondo fra l’approccio della Scuola Austriaca e quello della vecchia Scuola di Chicago circa l’interpretazione della crisi finanziaria.

Il Professor Becker crede che le misure adottate in maniera coordinata da governi e banche centrali in questi ultimi giorni servano a risolvere un’emergenza di breve termine,  un male necessario per scongiurare la morte del malato:

The Paulson Plan naturally concentrates on the very real short run emergency.

moral hazard concerns should be put aside temporarily when the whole short term credit system is close to a complete collapse

Prima di tutto bisogna valutare se veramente il malato e’ moribondo. In secondo luogo occorre valutare con cautela le conseguenze inintenzionali (…ma note) degli interventi.

Partiamo dal primo punto: lanciare segnali d’allarme e gettare il panico facendo leva sulla psicologia delle persone e’ molto facile, soprattutto quando l’obbiettivo dell’avvertimento non sono operatori finanziari ma i risparmiatori. Maggiore e’ l’autorevolezza dello scranno da cui si parla, maggiore e’ il peso delle parole. E se il FMI dice che “Il sistema finanziario è sull’orlo di un collasso sistemico”, si fa presto a pensare che saremo improvvisamente proiettati in una nuova era glaciale finanziaria. Valutando ‘a freddo’ la notizia, si nota tuttavia che viene lanciata di domenica, durante un G7, considerazione che si porta dietro un significativo peso politico … e strumentale.

Non vi e’ dubbio che siamo ufficialmente immersi in una crisi di liquidita’. Finira’ il mondo domani? O chi conosce bene le leggi economiche continua a pensare che per ogni domanda alla fine ci sara’ sempre un’offerta? Ecco che allora assume un senso cio’ che scrivono Alex Tabarrok (”Where is the Credit Crunch?“) e Michele Boldrin (”Zitti (e fermi) per favore!“). Forse l’offerta di credito si e’ ristretta (come e’ logisco attendersi durante l’inizio di una sana fase liquidazionista) ma non e’ detto che si sia prosciugata.

Perche’ uno dovrebbe adottare un’impostazione cosi intransigente invece che abbracciare la coperta di linus del salvataggio preventivo per scongiurare il peggio? Perche’ se la fine del mondo non e’ varamente alle porte, l’innondazione di liquidita’ operta dalle banche centrali in questi giorni “potrebbe”(*) trascinarci nel vortice di una iperinflazione:

Ma torniamo a Becker affrontando il secondo punto. E’ un’illusione pensare che gli effetti delle misure adottate in questi giorni rimarranno confinati all’interno del perimetro del breve termine. Le massive iniezioni di liquidita’, le nazionalizzazioni bancarie, la proibizione delle vendite allo scoperto non fanno che ammannettare i sani processi di liquidazione, posticipando le rese dei conti. Come ha fatto notare Huerta de Soto:

… this “flight into the future” would only temporarily postpone problems at the cost of making them far more serious later. [...] At this point, an inevitable, painful readjustment begins…

[central bankers] can either allow the recessionary process to begin now, and with it the healthy and painful readjustment, or they can procrastinate with a “hair of the dog” cure. With the latter, the chances of even more severe stagflation in the not-too-distant future increase exponentially. (This was precisely the error committed following the stock market crash of 1987, an error that led to the inflation at the end of the 1980s and concluded with the sharp recession of 1990-1992.)

the reintroduction of a cheap-credit policy at this stage could only hinder the necessary liquidation of unprofitable investments and company reconversion. It could even wind up prolonging the recession indefinitely, as occurred in the Japanese economy, which, after all possible interventions were tried, ceased to respond to any stimulus involving credit expansion or Keynesian methods.

Tanto era dovuto per il breve termine. Scolliniamo ora per vedere cosa propone Becker per il lungo termine:

The government should as quickly as possible sell Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae to fully private companies that receive no government insurance or other help. These two giants did not cause the housing mess, but in recent years they surely greatly contributed to it, partly through Congressional pressure on them to increase their purchases of sub prime loans. They owned or guaranteed almost half of the $12 trillion in outstanding mortgages with less than $100 million of capital. The housing market already has excessive amounts of government subsidies, such as from the tax exemption of interest on mortgages, and should not have government sponsored enterprises that insure mortgage-backed securities.

Perfetto! Avremmo tutti sempre voluto che queste agenzie governative venissero sottomesse ad un regime di libero mercato, invece che recepire pedissequamente direttive pubbliche anti-mercato. Forse Becker avrebbe potuto sposare prima questa battaglia, quando il Mises Institute e limitrofi erano fra i pochi ad avere il coraggio di perorarla. Meglio tardi che mai, quando si tratta di uscire dall’armadio.

Continuiamo:

the “too big to fail” approach to banks and other companies should be abandoned as new long-term financial policies are developed. Such an approach is inconsistent with a free market economy.

Grandioso. Sarebbe altrettando spettacolare se scrivesse chiaramente che questo equivale a un passo indietro di governo e Fed, e possibilmente alla concezione di una politica economica che dia ai mercati stabili aspettative di lungo termine “sul comportamento del governo”. Ma questo e’ intrinsecamente impossibile a causa della fallibilita’ di questo sistema politico, come insegnatoci dal permio Nobel James Buchanan e dalla Scuola della Public Choice.

Veniamo al punto piu’ importante:

The capital requirements of banks relative to assets might be increased, so that the highly leveraged ratios of assets to capital in financial institutions during the past several years would become less common. Possibly a minimum ratio of capital to assets should be imposed by the Fed on investment banks and money funds.

Magnifico! Non potrei non sposare la proposta visto che in passato riconosi in un articolo titolato “Cartolarizzazioni e Credit Crunch” che il problema della leva di certi strumenti di finanza avanzata (specialmente le cartolarizzazioni) stava proprio nella perdita dell’associazione fra assett e riserve sottostanti (in termini misesiani, il problema sta in un uso eccessivo dei mezzi fiduciari o della riserva frazionaria - due facce della stessa medaglia).

Tuttavia, cosi dicendo, Becker smentisce il suo grande maestro:

Milton Friedman and Anna Schwartz argue convincingly in their Monetary History of the United States that the Fed’s raising of reserve requirements for commercial banks during the mid-1930s contributed to a prolonging of the Great Depression. For it induced these banks to further contract their lending in order to gain the liquid assets that were removed by higher reserve requirements.

Speriamo che la misura da lui proposta non riguardi solo i derivati lasciando fuori il credito commerciale. Sarebbe inspiegabile e pericoloso, equivarrebbe ad un inno al malinvestement.

(*) Scrissi in passato che esistono due scuole di pensiero circa l’attuale congiuntura: chi ritiene che vi sara’ iperinflaizone e chi ritiene che saremo convolti nelle dinamiche di una deflazione. La questione non e’ banale, la trattero’ in un articolo successivo

In questi giorni si fa un gran parlare di Borgonovo, ex campione di calcio, e ora ridotto alla paralisi su una sedia a rotelle dalla Sla, conosciuto anche come “morbo di Gehrig”, in ricordo del giocatore di baseball che fu affetto da questa grave malattia. Pochi (se non appassionati) sanno che da questa malattia è affetto anche Jason Becker, uno dei più grandi chitarristi che la storia abbia conosciuto. La CNN ha realizzato un servizio su di lui (sono i primi due filmati qui sotto, neanche 5 minuti), e poco più sotto vi mostro una delle sue straordinarie canzoni. Sapere che non può più suonarle mette una tristezza infinita. Ma sta lottando contro la malattia, con tutte le sue forze. Io sono con lui, e voi?

I just realized that it’s been a very long time since I’ve made a post here. Yes, I’m still here. Just been busy. I’m sorry about that. Existem coisas que nos deixam saudades. Épocas, situações, pessoas… Por 1 ano e meio da minha vida eu fiz parte da “Família Becker”. Trabalhei como Vendedor (dá pra acreditar?) na Filial 90, em Santa Maria. Eu era daquele tipo de vendedor que é “coisa mais querida… Mas não vende nada!”.

Porém, eu tinha meus objetivos e estava disposto a começar de alguma forma. E ainda quebrei mutos galhos na parte de informática, ajudando sempre em alguma coisa! =)

Ainda lembro do meu 1º dia de trabalho, em 2006… Durante o tempo em que trabalhei na Filial 90, passei por toda a sorte de situações, algumas engraçadas, outras emocionantes, umas alegres, outras nem tanto… Colegas indo embora, colegas chegando… Sim, muitas vezes eu me sentia parte de um time, o que me deixava muito feliz, pois sempre gostei de fazer amizades e lutar por um bem comum. Tive chance de aprender muitas coisas novas, conhecer pessoas. Ah, e como as pessoas são importantes…

Sr. Fernando e Luciana (mais ao meio), pessoas raras de se encontrar hoje em dia. À propósito, Luciana vai ser mamãe mais uma vez! =)

Eu, Nei, Cris, Vítor, Fernanda, Aldinha, Jose, Nara e Carison.

Muitas vezes, quando eu estava “para baixo”, alguns colegas tratavam logo de tentar me alegrar. Eles sabiam que o meu sonho era, um dia, trabalhar na Matriz. Então eles sempre vinham e falavam que este dia estava se aproximando, para eu não desanimar, não desistir. Isto é se importar com as pessoas. E eu sempre dei muito valor à isto. Se não fosse o incentivo destes colegas, eu não teria ficado tanto tempo na empresa. Como é bom poder sentir-se querido por pessoas de bem.

Este post é, também, uma homenagem (e um agradecimento) à estas pessoas que eu nunca vou esquecer. Ao Sr. Fernando, verdadeiro exemplo de GERENTE, não chefe. Lú, esposa do Sr. Fernando, sempre querida com todos. Aldinha, minha “mãe” dentro da loja (e seu Neri, o marido dela, muito “gente boa”). Larice, um diamante que tenho certeza que vai se dar muito bem na vida. Nei, Cris, Fernanda, nem preciso falar nada… Vítor, Flores, “Vermeio”, figuras sem igual. A Tia Marli, a Jose…O grande Jaiminho, excelente colega que assumiu uma loja em Ajuricaba…

O pessoal do crediário é um caso à parte. Régis, Simone, Lidiane, Márcia, Rogério. Mais do que colegas, amigos. Quantas vezes o sistema caia, a impressora travava… Quando eu atendia o telefone na parte de vendas da loja, e ouvia a frase:”Chester, pode descer no crediário?”, eu já sabia que algo estava errado, hahaha… Fato curioso: logo que entrei na empresa, a Márcia e a Lidiane quase não abriam a boca. Um sorriso, uma risada então, impossível. Mas vejam como as coisas mudam:

Para terminar, um pequeno fato sobre o Ivan, meu ex-gerente. Final do ano passado, antes do Natal, eu estava muito triste. As vendas indo mal. Eu já havia visto que não haveria chances de eu trabalhar no que eu realmente queria na empresa. Tudo estava dando errado.

Até que, um dia, uma menina “catadora de papelão”, de uns 6, 7 anos de idade apareceu na loja. Como era época de Natal, tínhamos muitas bicicletas expostas na vitrine. Então, quando a menina estava saindo, ela disse: “Como eu queria ter uma!”.

Pois bem. O nosso gerente (Ivan) ouviu. Chamou ela e disse para ela escolher qualquer uma, que ele daria para ela. Sem alarde. Sem “propaganda”. Eu não vi essa cena. Mas vi a minha colega Jose comentando sobre o fato. Quando eu soube, não pude me conter. Chamei a Sandra e pedi para ela comprar um cartão de Natal (era o que dava pra comprar com meu dinheiro). A Márcia viu que eu estava meio que chorando e quis rir, mas acabou com os olhos cheios d’água também, hahaha… Depois, só pude ir até a mesa dele, entregar o cartão e agradecer. Pois tudo o que eu estava passando naquele momento foi compensado por aquele ato.

Mais tarde, fiquei sabendo que até material escolar ele comprou para ela. E sapatos também.Sempre sem ficar alardeando para todo mundo. Por que eu contei este fato? Porque existem pessoas que merecem RESPEITO. Pessoas que têm um coração bom. E que, mesmo tendo seus dias de estresse, sempre terão a alma limpa.

Então eu posso dizer: sempre trabalhei com honestidade e caráter. Nunca deixei de ajudar quem quer que fosse, mesmo prejudicando minhas vendas.

Foi uma honra trabalhar com pessoas que têm coração.

Foi uma honra conhecer pessoas que sempre terei as melhores lembranças.

Foi uma honra trabalhar na Becker.

Ao Sr. Fernando e ao Ivan, que me contrataram, meu muito obrigado. De coração.

Não é exatamente free mas já explico porque. Se trata de uma excursão em grupo a pé pelo centro de Munique, com um guia. Quem quer participar dessa excursão só precisa estar às 15h no Marienplatz e ir até onde tem um grupo de pessoas e uma plaquinha vermelha em cima. Se chama Free Tour, porém a guia disse que ela não é paga por nenhuma empresa e que as pessoas escolhem quanto ela merece ganhar de gorjeta. Tá bom, você pode não pagar. Mas provavelmente sentirá peso na consciência depois de ouvir ela falando por 3 horas.

Ok! A Kari, a menina que foi nossa guia, é da California. Falava inglês bem rápido, portanto algumas coisas eu não entendi completamente. Ela nos disse que aquele grupo era o menor que ela já tinha pego. Pelo que me recordo era um brasileiro (eu), um australiano, uma família (acho que era uma família) de portugueses (umas cinco pessoas), um casal norte-americano (mulher dos EUA e homem do Canadá) e um casal oriental (não sei de onde, mas tinham olho puxado).

Passamos por lugares que eu já conhecia. Alguns eu já sabia a história um pouco pois o Thomas e a She já me contaram. Outros não.

Ela contou histórias sobre o Marienplatz, sobre a Frauenkirche, a Hofbräuhaus,e outras pontos. Falou bastante sobre a guerra também.

Curiosidade: A cidade ficou muito destruída após a segunda guerra mundial. E muita coisa foi reconstruída depois, da forma que era antes porque os alemães tiraram fotos, antes da guerra, de tudo que eles podiam, porque sabiam o que poderia acontecer.

Foi aqui também que muitos fatos relacionados ao nazimos aconteceram pois Hitler morou aqui. Um fato interessante é que muito foi reconstruído pelas mulheres pois muitos homens tinham morrido ou estavam presos. E é incrível como conseguiram. Andando pela cidade não dá para imaginar que um dia aquilo tudo já esteve destruído. Foi muito legal a tour, deu para aprender bastante.

De noite, vimos vários episódios de Becker. É realmente viciante. Além da série ser muito boa, tem o clima que gosto muito em Nova York. Aliás, eu adoro Becker e adoro Seinfeld. talvez o clima Nova York deixa as séries mais legais ainda.

Comments: Huge citrus / lavender blast - almost mentholic. Very masculine. Very intense. Within 10 minutes, dries down to a lavender with wood, citrus and a hint of vanilla. Still very masculine. Almost soapy. For whatever reason, Old Spice comes to mind - though I’m not sure there are many similarities. 20 minutes in - more amber. Still very masculine. 60 minutes in - more vanilla. Still very masculine. 2 hours in - finally turning into something I can wear - a vanilla / amber blend with just a hint of soapy lavender. 5 hours in - has turned into the drydown for The Gingerbread Crackhouse. I wore this yesterday so I am not sure whether it is the Posset coming back or the actual drydown of this scent. I will need to try this again another time.

Jason Becker, was born on 22 July, 1969. Jason is an American neo-classical metal guitarist and composer. At the age of 16, he became part of the Mike Varney-produced duo Cacophony with his friend Marty Friedman. They released Speed Metal Symphony in 1987 and Go Off! in 1988.

Jason Becker studied the works of violinist Niccolò Paganini and was a playing partner with Marty Friedman. Jason later composed a rendition of Paganini’s 5th Caprice, performing it during an instructional guitar video. Jason Becker’s compositions often include high speed scalar and arpeggio passages, both of which are trademarks of his ’shred’ style of guitar playing. The song “Serrana”, appearing in the album Perspective, is an example of his sweep-picking skills. Jason demonstrated the arpeggio sequence during a clinic at the Atlanta Institute of Music. A video of this performance first appeared on his Hot Licks guitar instructional video and can now be viewed on YouTube.

Jason Becker started out playing alongside Marty Friedman in the Mike Varney produced duo, Cacophony. Jason Becker and Marty Friedman toured together with Cacophony in Japan and across the United States. In 1989 Jason Becker left to pursue a solo career, releasing his 1st solo album titled ‘Perpetual Burn’ in 1988, and has since released ‘Perspective’, as well as 2 albums of demos, entitled ‘The Raspberry Jams’ and The Blackberry Jams.

At the age of 20, he joined David Lee Roth’s band, replacing Steve Vai, who went on to join Whitesnake. While recording the A Little Ain’t Enough album and preparing for the subsequent tour in 1990, Jason Becker began to feel what he called a “lazy limp” on his left leg. Jason was soon diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) and given 3 years to live. Jason could barely finish the recording, using low-gauge (thin) guitar strings and other techniques, which would make it easier to play with his weakening hands. Although he managed to finish the album he did not join the supporting tour due to his inability to perform on stage; former Lizzy Borden guitarist Joe Holmes took Jason Becker’s place on tour.

Jason eventually lost the ability to speak and now communicates with his eyes via a system developed by his father. Although his ALS gradually robbed him of his ability to play guitar, to walk, and eventually even to speak, he still remains mentally sharp and, with the aid of a computer, continues composing. In the back of the Perspective CD case, Jason Becker states “I have Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. It has crippled my body and speech, but not my mind.” Now in his 30s, his medical condition has remained stable since 1997. No recent updates pertaining to Jason’s condition has been heard of aside from him stating that he has felt a little better and gained some weight, but this was in 2003.

In 1996 Jason Becker released an album entitled Perspective, an instrumental album composed by him (with the exception of Bob Dylan’s song “Meet Me in the Morning”). The writing of the music had been started before ALS completely crippled his abilities. By using guitar and later, when he was unable to use both hands, a keyboard, he continued to compose while his disease worsened. However, when Jason Becker could no longer physically play even a keyboard, his friend and music producer Mike Bemesderfer helped him with a music-composing computer program which could read the movements of his head and eyes enabling Json Becker to continue to compose after he lost control of his entire body.

Several years later Jason Becker released Raspberry Jams (1999) and Blackberry Jams (2003), the first contained various unreleased demo-tracks and the latter contained demo-tracks and alternate versions of songs that were later reworked and published into other albums.

2 tribute albums to Jason Becker have been issued. Respectively entitled Warmth in the Wilderness I and Warmth in the Wilderness II, they feature guitarists such as Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, Joe Becker, Rusty Cooley, and Mattias Eklundh. The album profits were sent to Jason Becker to help him with his medical finances.

Shrapnel Records will be releasing a Best of Jason Becker album. The album, is scheduled for release in October and will feature three new songs for the album which will feature Marty Friedman, Greg Howe, Joe Satriani, Michael Lee Firkins, Steve Vai, and Steve Hunter. The album will also feature older, never-heard songs/recordings.

Sometimes there are events and situations in life that cause a shift in your thinking or actions. August 28th was one of those times for me. I attended David Jays’ Freedom to Succeed Tour which was held in Alexandria. It was a great time and the insight was incredible. There were probably about 100 photographers in attendance. Couture | Book was on display as well. Besides DJ’s great insight into our business, another highlight of the evening was listening to [b]ecker’s presentation. See you guys in Vegas!

Tornata alla base,come previsto il 24 sera atterraggio fastidioso ma in perfetto orario: suonano anche le trombe e una voce recita solenne “ANOTHER ON TIME FLIGHT!”…la Ryanair si auto proclama affidabile, sicura e puntuale e gli Italiani a bordo (il 95%dei passeggeri) applaude…(io ovviamente no: odio l’applauso al momento dell’atterragggio).

Come disse Gianluchino all’ aterraggio in Santander l’8 Agosto: “Ma che significa st’ applauso?!!! Fa il suo lavoro.lo pagano; se non sapesse atterrare non farebbe il pilota!!”.Parole sante!

Ma gli Italiani sono gente “de core” e oltre a parlare sempre ad alta voce ovunque e comunque,non perdono occasione per manifestare la propria passionalità: gli unici a fare ancora i cori “POpporoppoppoppò” in casa e fuori casa dal 2006 sono rimasti gli Italiani.

Atterrati a Sant Ander si prosegue in macchian alla volta di San Sebastian. Al folto gruppo di partenza si aggiunge Ursula: distinta signora che ci accompagnerà per tutto il viaggio e che è stato anche motivo di conflitto (il fatto che una donna pretenda di avere e di fatto ha sempre ragione…è una cosa che agli uomini non piace!)

Il tempo non è propriamente estivo:sulla strada pioggia a freddo…rimpiango un pò i 45° che mi hanno impedito di riposare la sera prima a Roma.
La prima sosta la facciamo fra Sant Ander e Bilbao in un baretto lercio e popolatissimo dove mangiamo il primo Pinto (si pronuncia pincio) e assistiamo alla cerimonia di inaugurazione delle Olimpiadi.Momento di solidarietà nei confronti della popolazione Tibetana che si può riassumenre in un altra massima di Gianluchino: “Questi ammazzano ogni giorno centinaia di innocenti e noi andiamo a farci le olimpiadi e ad applaudire!!”
Sigarette per chi fuma e si torna in macchina.

San Sebastìan (Donostia in lingua Basca) ci accoglie bene. la casa è bellissima e il paese si prepara alla Semana Grande e alle feste correlate. I Baschi sono distaccatamente cordiali e mai troppo gentili, hanno forte simpatia per gli Itliani odiano gli Americani e ancor più i Catalani.
I Baschi d.o.c. reclamano indipendenza: non vogliono essere soggetti nè alla Spagna; nè tantomeno alla Francia come qualcuno invece auspica. La terra basca è fiera e imponente come i suoi abitanti. La popolazione basca è stata perseguitata e annullata,la lingua basca:la lingua proibita.

Causa la mia mania per le pins ne compro una con la bandiera basca e la metto su. In un locale in fila per il bagno una ragazza la nota e viene da me a cantare l’inno basco. Io la ascolto,ma taccio.

Lei mi guarda e mi dice “ma tu non canti?” e io le rispondo che non conosco l’inno perchè sono italiana,ma che ho rispetto del suo popolo e ho messo la spilla nel giorno della loro festa.
Si illumina in un sorriso bellissimo.Mi abbraccia e mi stringe forte. “Gracias,gracias!!!”.Bello.

L’ocenano maestoso e selvaggio,le gite sulla costa e le serate in casa a guardare la pioggia a cadere in giardino o ballare in sala,tutti nella camera dei ragazzi a parlare e ridere come i pazzi fino all’alba.

Il 12 direttamente da Malpensa arriva Leo (nome in codice Lio) all’arrivo commenta “O ma a Milano c’era più caldo!” :D:D

Abbiamo cucinato,dormito,viaggiato e riso e sopratttutto trascorso del tempo, dell’impagabile e prezioso tempo insieme.Noi che crescendo abbiamo preso strade diverse e ci vediamo 3 volte all’anno se va bene…noi che siamo cresciuti insieme e continuiamo ad essere così uniti,noi che abbiamo 33 anni e ricordi che risalgono a 25 anni fa.Time out, tempo scaduto…stop it!

Si prosegue in 3 per Madrid:bellissima e affascinante.

2 Giorni dopo Checco e Checca ci aspettano a Barcellona.

Una settimana trascorsai vicoli della Barcelloneta, in quelli del barrio gotico e di Gracìa.Picasso,Gaudì,Dalì e Mirò in ogni angolo.

Una scorpacciata di emozioni,immagini, posti e angoli.
