it’s no secret that i love to take pictures of kids! all kids - babies, toddlers, preschoole

it's no secret that i love to take pictures of kids! all kids - babies, toddlers, preschoolers even teenagers. often, i'll take shots of a family. to me, these can be a little more challenging, only because most people feel like they need to look at the camera and say "cheese" (that's the worst). they just end up looking fake.

for me, family photos are best when they capture the connection that the family has. if a family is comfortable enough to let their guard down and just act natural - those are the best images.

this session was with a great mom and her one year old - who is just as sweet as he can be with those big brown eyes. these are the type of family photos that i love. these are the kind that i wish i had of me and my mom - how great would it be to look at these as an adult, or to show your children or grandchildren, even?

It's slowing sinking in that they won't be here any more :( I actually cried on the way home from our session.

We couldn't have asked for better light. A cloud covered the sun for us right at the perfect time! Then, just as we where finishing, the sun came out and it got so hot and sweaty out.

Chad and Misty wanted to do the session for their 6 year anniversary and Misty chose the beach for the location because once they move to North Carolina, they won't be living near the beach anymore.

  Last week’s five-straight positive trading sessions on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange saw general improvement in share prices and a reassuring level of liquidity.

Over the week as a whole, the VN-Index rose 26.59 points, or 7.2 percent, to close at 392.61. A total of 53 million shares were traded, at an average value of 322.47 billion VND (19.54 million USD) per day.

Blue-chip stocks such as Sacombank (STB), Saigon Securities Inc (SSI), Phu My Fertilisers (DPM) and Vinamilk (VNM) saw steady increase during the week.

STB led the way in terms of trading volume and value, with 9.64 million shares changing hands for 200.64 billion VND (12.16 million USD), DPM followed, with 3.38 million shares traded for 136.6 billion VND (8.28 million USD).

SSI shares were much in demand after Japan’s Daiwa Securities Group Inc committed to buy 11 million shares and early last week ANZ Bank registered to buy more than 6.8 million. Buy orders for SSI stock exceeded instructions to sell by around two million over the final two sessions of the week.

Foreign investor trading was modest, with only 7.27 million shares bought and 5.87 million units sold.

At the Hanoi Securities Trading Centre, the HASTC-Index gained 2.3 points over the week, or 2 percent, to close at 112.68. In total, 30.63 million shares were traded, with a value of 670.57 billion VND (40.64 million USD).

Signs are good that the market has bottomed out, said Thang Long Securities Company director Le Dinh Ngoc.

“We don’t know for certain that the VN-Index has reached the lowest point of its downturn yet,” Ngoc said. “But, the index’s increasing value and market liquidity over the last three weeks indicate a more stable market.”

“Generally good news about the economy has also supported the market,” he said.

For the first six months of the year, economic indicators have proved positive. Foreign direct investment was 31.6 billion USD over this period, a 3.7-fold increase over the same period last year; value of exports was 29.7 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 31.8 percent; and the trade deficit fell from 2.85 billion USD in May to 1.3 billion USD in June.

Now is a suitable time for long-term investment, both Ngoc and Bien Viet Securities deputy director Vu Duc Nghia said.

However, Ngo Van Minh, deputy director of Eurocapital Securities’ Analysis Department, said investors should be cautious about their investment decisions right now as the economy still faces difficulties.

The skyrocketing global oil price, which has hit a record high of more than 140 USD per barrel, could further force up domestic petrol prices, Minh said.

I have had an amazing week. I had 3 photo sessions. Three. (one still not processed yet). I have a wedding tomorrow and a wedding the following week. My goal is to be booked every weekend from here on out till September. My focus is High School Seniors (haven't seen any here yet have you? Neither have I) But it's been a gift this week to do what I've been doing - and when I come home exhausted from running, climbing, crunching, kneeling, laying down... I smile because it is so much fun. It should be a sin to have so much fun doing what I love to do.

Here's where I want to share nightmare-ish studio experiences. The engineer accidentally erased the "Perfect" take, the mic's weren't on, the tape ran out/got eaten/stuck/torn............etc

I'm using two modular eight track digital recorders, called ADAT's, for recording this album. As I'm tracking, one machine just up and dies. It stops recording. all the LED indicators show that signal is going in, but nothing is getting to tape. Thankfully, I was given a third machine, which has only 4 hours on it. I find a store that repairs them on the East side of Pennsylvania. I get it fixed, but I'm down for a week. It comes back, and I'm back in business. No sooner than I start to mix, the second machine starts eating the time code from the tapes. I barely get the song "Sea Of Dreams' to two track. The time code from the drum and bass tracks tape is gone, so there's no way to even play it ever again. No, I didn't make digital backups, I know................anyway, I have the songs, and I need to master them.

I set everything up, and my stand alone CD burner dies. just writes one track, fills the entire disc, and ejects them. At first I thought it was a bad disc or two, but after six? So I'm down again! Rather than buy a new CD burner and pay to get my original ADAT and my second ADAT repaired, I found a deal on a new Digital Audio Workstation with built in CD writer. So I upgrade. Grand total of down time? Six months! During tracking, there were other equipment malfunctions that delayed things, like mic's dying, bad cords, tapes getting stretched during rewinding....that sort of thing, but all told, it took almost a year to get this album recorded and finished.

Share any stories that you have.

Does rails scale? No! But memcached does!

Ok ok, you aren't probably going to need memcache for caching huge queries yet. But it is useful for storing your user's session data server side and not having to worry about filling up cookies or clearing out files in your tmp directory or your database.

So I've been designing a single sign on system for the interanl applications at CI. And I need apps on all kinds of different servers to talk to the same memcache instance(s) for their sessions. I did follow this article on err.the_blog to get started but I only got so far and ran into some issues that got hard to debug.

The default memcached session store hits localhost:11211 which is generally fine for most applications but I needed a clustered approach and could not for the life of me figure it out. Turns out like most things with rails it was really easy.

In environment.rb in my rails app I needed to do a few things:

1. Setup the connection to your memcache server

2. Tell rails to use memcache for sessions

3. Setup rails to drop all its sessions stuff into the memcache server we setup

Alright so 1:

require 'memcache'
CACHE = MemCache.new(:namespace => "your_app")
CACHE.servers = 'some_ip_address:some_port', 'another_ip_address_if_you_need_it:some_port

and then 2(pretty easy)

config.action_controller.session_store = :mem_cache_store

and then 3 (this is where you can set the session timeout and then pass in the memcached object CACHE)

config.action_controller.session = {
:session_key => '_your_app_session',
:secret      => 'someotherkindofsecretthatnooneknows',
:cache       => CACHE,
:expires=>900  }

I think if memcache doesn't find the session on one server it'll look on the others you put in the CACHE.servers list. However if your memcache instance goes down your rails app is hosed and starts throwing up 500 errors all over itself.

You can actually throw alot of this config into a gem if you are going to have several apps that are all going to use the same config (setup the CACHE stuff in your gem and then just do step 3 in your apps) That way if you need to switch or add servers to your memcache setup you don't have to make changes in 20 places.

I tried to pick a variety of the best, but left some out because I want to leave some happy surprises for when she shows them to friends and family!

I have updated my site. I have layed out my rules in THE DUNGEON.

I would like to thank those of you who entertained me today. Locked n Chaste, as usual I have enjoyed our conversations. I do, however challenge you to check out Laurel K Hamiltons website, so that as I read more in this series of books ( The Anita Blake or Merry Gentry), you will know a little about who and what is going on. You may also want to find a way to maybe get a book or two in these series to read.
BustingSlave: You have had the priviledge of seeing just how brutal a CBT session with me can really be, through our chat today.
To those who I am considering bestowing a task on, who have recently shown interest in becoming one of my subs/slaves/pets, I will assign one to you soon.

I am trying to keep my numbers intimate so that I can provide each of you with the quality I like to use with everything I do.

Hem parlat de: Tertiary consumers, Secondary consumers, Primary consumers, Producers and Decomposers.

Mammals have got skin or fur. They are warm-blooded. They are viviparous, they have babies. Female mammals produce milk to feed their babies. They breathe through lungs.
